Freeman Interest Heating Up In Oakland

March 15th, 2014

Josh Freeman and Greg SchianoJoe’s sure hoping it’s all about No. 5 in Oakland. That can only help the Bucs’ chances at landing everybody’s favorite No. 2.

NFL Network insider/reporter Albert Breer is Twittering tonight that the mighty Raiders are considering signing sleepy, leaky Josh Freeman.

This is glorious news. Joe’s wishing the best for Freeman, who hopefully can harness all of his immense talent and recapture the devotion he showed in previous Bucs seasons.

But more important, if Oakland is looking at Freeman, then that’s a strong indicator they may not want to draft a quarterback with their No. 5 overall pick. Joe could see their potential twisted Raiders logic. The Raiders’ coaching staff is on thin ice, and perhaps ownership doesn’t want to draft a quarterback that could become a QB a new regime rejects. There are can’t-miss type players at the top of this 2014 draft. So perhaps one of them is perceived as a safer, wiser bet.

If the Raiders pass on a QB, that increases the odds the Bucs land a top quarterback prospect. Please don’t try to tell Joe the Bucs can/should wait on that if the right QB is available. If not now, then when exactly should the Bucs draft their next franchise QB?

Hopefully, Benn’d Around architect and Freeman supporter Greg Olson, the Raiders offensive coordinator, is doing one hell of a sales pitch. Joe would love to see what Olson does with Freeman minus the don’t-scramble shackles placed on athletic Freeman in 2011 and 2012.

No WR’s but Jackson? Who gives a blank about QB’s at this point with only one dedicated #1 quality WR to throw the ball to. Williams may be but he definitely has something to prove.

  2. Harry Says:

Who gives a blank about QBs? With the right coaching, and surrounding the QB with top playmakers, and given the perfect system, any QB will be All Pro; even MG8. We need to draft an OT, or RB to help our the QB. (sarcasm)

  3. Tm Says:

If they sign a Freeman, Oakland may take Watkins at 5, which would be disappointing. I’d love to see him in a Bucs uniform.

  4. Trubucfan22 Says:

When you have a good qb you don’t need 3 all pro WRs. Jackson draws enough attention off the rest off the WRs, leaving an average wr the chance to get open with some descent route running ability.

Williams is still a vey good player. I’m sure we address at least a late pick on wr. Besides Patriots got by with 1 mediocre wr last season. Proof a good qb can make a talentless offense click and win.

  5. Shawnbucfan Says:

Not sure the raider nation will be big fans of The Thriller himself ..

  6. Rene Jack Says:

Joe I sure am glad u don’t mention king Dbag Johnny football in this post. Johnny Dbag would b such a reach at 7. In my eyes the only can’t misses at 7 are Watkins, Evans, and any one of the tackles. As for Freeman I’m sure wherever he signs he will end up in the club scene hanging out w MOLLY!!! It’s what he does.

  7. Hawk Says:

I don’t buy into your theory. *If* the Raiders sign Freefall, then they are doing so for the same reason that Lovie/Licht signed McCown. The difference being that McCown could actually mentor a ‘young gun’ in the right ways to be an NFL QB.
Come on, Joe. With Freefall’s history, do you really believe that even the Raiders wouldn’t want a ‘plan B’?

  8. Rene Jack Says:

How bout our home town boy Aaron Murray in the 3rd rd. He is a way better PRO prospect than Johnny Dbag. Murray is smart and saavy and ran a pro style offense unlike ur boy crush. Murray would b a steal in the third round and I predict he will def hv a better pro career than Johnny Dbag!!!

  9. mg mob Says:

sorry joe # 2 will be passed over even if availabe, because thankfully smarter minds are in charge of the bucs draft.

  10. WalkdaPlank Says:

@Joe – don’t you mean everybody’s favorite No. 4? As in 4th best QB in the division if drafted by the Bucs? 😉

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

Murray will be there in the 5th.

  12. Mike Says:

    Favorite number two my arse!

  13. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Rene Jack

lmao, he was referencing Johnny. What did you think he meant when he said everybody’s favorite number 2? thats as in jersey number 2. I would be all for drafting Aaron Murray, I’m with you on that one. I think he has a bright future. Wonder how many pictures of Manziel Joe has hanging up in his house. Wouldn’t surprise me if he had a shrine and everything.

  14. Mr. Patrick Says:

I hope Raider Nation doesn’t mistake him for Jamarcus Russell

  15. feelthepewterpower Says:

    Freeman > Glennon > Schiano

  16. BucsQcCity Says:

Now that Sanders is out of the market, we should target Watkins in the draft. QB later rounds.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

    Joe says:

“that’s a strong indicator they may not want to draft a quarterback with their No. 5 overall pick”.

That’s no indicator at all Joe. They could still draft a QB. Freeman or no Freeman.

  18. feelthepewterpower Says:

That’s no indicator at all Joe. They could still draft a QB. Freeman or no Freeman

    ———————————

They need oline help as well, they nixed the saffold deal.

  19. PRBucFan Says:

    Oh God, this garbage…

Thought we were past any mention of HeWhoShallNotBeNamed.

  20. Mumbles Says:

You’re right 87. If they get Freeman, it means for sure they pick another QB. This is good news!

  21. Buc1987 Says:

O-line, Watkins or trade down. Even if a certain midget QB is available at #7.

  22. Chrome Grille Says:

    Johnny Football > Aaron Scurry….all day everyday. And I’m a Bulldog Fan…

  23. PRBucFan Says:

QB, QB, or trade down for QB…

  24. Buc1987 Says:

#7 pick : O-line, Watkins or trade down for a QB.

  25. PRBucFan Says:

#7 pick: QB, QB, or trade down for QB.

  26. PRBucFan Says:

    Oh and P.S.

Glennon & Every QB in the history of the game > HeWhoShallNotBeNamed

  27. Buc1987 Says:

#7 pick : O-line, Watkins, trade down for a QB or trade your 3rd rounder for Josh Freeman.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    ha ha ha ha

  29. Young-buc_361 Says:

Did you people not watch the Super Bowl forget Watkins and make sure we get Barr or Mack, a defense embarrassed a record breaking Offense. We have the pieces if not LB then go DB. lavonte could use some Faster help. And last year they killed the other side of Revis. With our 3rd round I am sure there will be a speedy receiver on the list.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Oh wait Free Willy is a FA.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

“Did you people not watch the Super Bowl forget Watkins and make sure we get Barr or Mack”

Okay I I’ll try my hardest.

  32. Ryan Says:

That’s nice but even if they do get Josh, why is that to stop them from selecting a QB at number 5? We got McCown and we’re just as hopeful as before to land a QB (specifically Johnny Football) right?

Nice words Joe but at the end of the day it’s wishful thinking and you can’t dispute that.

  33. PRBucFan Says:

#7 pick : QB, QB, or trade down for a QB or trade your 3rd rounder for a QB not named HeWhoShallNotBeNamed.

    lol 😛

  34. Buc1987 Says:

PRBucFan…it could happen. Still trust no one.

  35. PRBucFan Says:

    Never! lol

  36. Architek Says:

Who cares about this addict – ?

Why don’t we talk about the outstanding moves by our own team?

  37. Orca Says:

I don’t think there’s any chance the Bucs draft Johnny D*ckballs. If I were guessing, I’d say they probably lean towards Derek Carr over the big 3 names, but it might be a little high to draft him at #7. I would say trade back, gather extra picks, take Carr, trade Glennon for another pick.

  38. Dan Says:

Unlike us the raiders would have to settle with one qb… too many needs to sign one and draft one

  39. Architek Says:

I think Teddy B will be there – either he or Watkins would be a solid pick for the Bucs!

  40. Architek Says:

Crazy thing about it if the Bucs draft Mack that would potentially force every DE Dominik drafted to the bench!

  41. Burg Says:

Please lord let us draft Bortles, this kid has all the tools and speed…
He has that ability to pick up his team and win in crunch time.

  42. Rene Jack Says:

@Andrew 1. It’s really creepy and scary how much Joe envys Johnny Dbag!!! I can’t wait to c what team mortgages their future on this all star sand lot qb. Yes he won the heisman because he is an athlete but I hate his game. All if his big plays were ad lib. That’s y I love Aaron Murray. He is smart and a true passer. He anticipates routes and often releases the football before receivers are out of their brakes. That’s what’s up!!!

  43. INDYbucsfan Says:

@joe you get me though the day. All of these buc updates are awesome no matter what you say. Ps I’m fucking wasted

  44. Rene Jack Says:

@walkdaplank….. No way Murray gets to the 5th round. Willing to bet u $$$. Let me know. I’m down

  45. b.Bruce Says:

Please draft Blake,he will be a great an in a year or 2.

  46. MadMax Says:

Who is this Freeman again?….oh yea, nevermind…..

Connor Shaw, the later round sleeper QB….

  47. Arealbucsfan Says:

Joe! Im with u. If perhaps one of the 3Qb’s fall to us, we should take him!. Let him sit behind McCown for 2 years and learn the system. Could be an Aaron Rodgers type thing.

  48. Arealbucsfan Says:

And Johnny’s the real deal. Not what everyone makes him out to be. Think if u were in his shoes at 20-22.

  49. lurker Says:

what is the hate on manziel? dude has more talent and skills than glennon or mccown. he is a leader, knows how to win, is accurate, mobile, and can lead his team to comeback victories.

we will draft a qb, hopefully in round 1. whether it is at 7, move up, or down, we will get one.

ps we do not need injured qb prospects. seriously.

  50. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ lurker

Funny you say we dont need injured QB prospect. Do you really believe that Johnny will be injury free with how much he scrambles with 240 lb LBs abusing him? He already got injured this past season in college because of his scrambling. Just imagine the biggest and the best licking their chops just waiting for him to scramble. Sure, him being able to run around is nice, but it will also cause to be susceptible to injury and cut his career short, imo.

  51. Joe Says:

Thanks INDY. Joe understands the need for getting plastered on a Saturday night. That’s what weekends are made for. 🙂

  52. WalkdaPlank Says:

Murray may have been a 3rd rounder….until he tore his Achilles…..I’m a huge Murray and UGA fan, but he is a 5th rounder, maybe late 4th at best. Hope that increases the Bucs’ chances of getting him, I think he would be a steal if his recovery goes well. The guy put up SEC records with no name recievers and runningbacks till Gurley showed up.

  53. Patrick Says:

Johnny likes to drink beer and bangs hot women. All the haters on here obviously jealous of him. lol! 🙂

  54. Joe Says:

Murray may have been a 3rd rounder….until he tore his Achilles…..I’m a huge Murray and UGA fan, but he is a 5th rounder, maybe late 4th at best.

    Ding!

  55. You go Joe Says:

Whenever freeman gets mentioned i immediately think of the whole medical records scandal and how that douche left us in a bad spot.

Then of course the NFLPA comes into the picture and guarantees finding the culprit as they will not tolerate such acts. Only to be left with a “Freeman camp leaked the medical records”. Where the eff is the bucs justice ?? Why does freeman get a best wishes when that jerk added on more bad media when we already had hell with the MRSA, Tynes big mouth wife (not the good kind), the locker room was lost and the losing streak. There’s a reason why Tilman did not sign and that’s because his agent works for Josh.

The hell with freeman and his camp, the hell with him trying to act like he was better off at Minnesota when he only played worse and showed what he really is. An inaccurate QB and inconsistent douche. I still want the NFLPA to give the results publicly just for him and his agent to never work again. Besides the dude got the bucs and Viking money he’s already settled for his snake and gun collection and his medication!

  56. Joe Says:

    You go Joe:

As regards to the NFLPA investigation, Joe spoke with someone who talked to D. Smith at the combine. When Smith was asked about the status of the investigation, Smith acted as if he totally forgot about it, or at best, the investigation was very much a back-burner issue.

  57. lurker Says:

    @andrew1

he is not injured now, nor is he injury prone. anyone can get hurt at any time. so if you could get brees to be our qb you wouldn’t because he is short and might get injured? i’m not saying manziel is brees the same way that the mgm says glennon did better than manning, but that they aren’t saying he will be like manning… 🙂 😉 =-O

  58. lurker Says:

it is not in the interests of the nflpa and demaurice smith to investigate the leaked medical information anymore. the nfl should investigate…lol

  59. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about an empty backfield with these recievers on the field
TE Myers, TE Wright WR MW19, WR VJ, WR Sammy Watkins….
    DEFEND THAT!!!

  60. Maze Says:

I hate Josh Freeman. That is all

  61. brandonbucfan Says:

I still say that the Bucs will trade down get another pick and grab Carr at QB. He needs to give his OC something and the connections between Tedford and the Carr family are too great.

  62. Macabee Says:

PFT is saying not Freeman or at least not first choice at the Raiders. Not that I care either way!

  63. snook Says:

Doesn’t look like Oakland will sign Penn. Hopefully they Draft OT at #5.

  64. bjb Says:

    really,

with what this idiot did to the bucs, why do you waste our time with this garbage. this guy does not exist anymore. quit wasting the 30 seconds of our lives reading about this loser, we will never get those seconds back

  65. nate Says:

ha ha ha they can have jamarcus russell 2.0…..

  66. Oregon Buc Says:

Raiders may take Schaub instead. If they do they will not take a qb in round 1. He’s better than Freewilly. I think lovefest wants to trade down badly for Moseley. Moseley and LVD would be nasty. Teams killed the Revis side also, remember the Panthers double move!! Mevis was 10 yards away when they scored the TD!!

  67. Fb Says:

Joe had another wet dream about Johnny football. This one was so good he thought the other JF would return to glory. What field do you get your mushrooms from?

  68. rdbucfan Says:

If the Raiders sign Gosh Freeboy, they better not draft a QB. Everyone saw Freeboy’s meltdown when he was benched by Schiano. I don’t think even the Raiders are that stupid.

  69. bucrightoff Says:

Seriously though, who cares about the 50th best QB in the NFL (and I think I might be being generous)? I’d rather you post articles about Josh Johnson, whom we all like. Joshua on the other hand….

  70. tye Says:

The Raiders must not be to clueless, according to profootballtalk Oakland would rather trade for Shaub or Sanchez than just sign Freeman… They even mention Vick before him so Freeman is #4 on their list as I understand it… Not our problem, ANYMORE!

  71. SuperGobaby Says:

Freeman is a good fit with the Raiders. In Oakland, no one shows up for the team photo.
