The Bucs have a center coming to Tampa

As of 6 p.m., offensive linemen are getting gobbled up across the NFL and the Bucs still have Carl Nicks, Donald Penn, Jeremy Zuttah and Demar Dotson on the roster. Davin Joseph remains unemployed.

Here who’s off the market:

Left Tackle Eugene Monroe (Ravens)
Left tackle Jared Veldheer (Cardinals)
Left tackle Branden Albert (Dolphins)
Left tackle/guard Rodger Saffold (Raiders)
Guard Zane Beadles (Jaguars)

Chiefs free agent guard Jon Asamoah is reported to be visiting the Falcons, per NFL.com, and the Bucs will wine and dine Packers free agent starting center Evan Dietrich-Smith, who is reportedly coveted by the Giants. He’s also got experience at guard.

Perennial Bengals backup, versatile tackle Anthony Collins, who has been linked to the Bucs, is still on the market.

Draft for the OLine. That first rounder is going to be a tackle for sure now (I hope, unless Mr. Watkins falls).

  2. Matt Says:

    Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 4m
Bears free-agent CB Charles Tillman visiting Tampa Bay, per source. Revis replacement?

  3. Nose Tackle Says:

Asamoah signed with the Falcons already.

  4. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Jamon Meridith wasn’t a premier signing? Lol

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Wonder if Penn will be traded to the Raiders if we sign Collins

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I bet Joseph comes back as depth 😉

  7. Snook Says:

Word is that Anthony Collins may be a Buc soon.

    Never Know

I am too ticked off to blog about free agency so far. I give the Bucs an F-. Why are we seeing the top players especially offensive line while we got DE Johnson. Rediculous signing to me. I am washing my hands until the draft. Not too interested in Tillman either. Too bad Mcluster was signed already. Mark my words, Johnson will be very average at best.

i think joseph can\should be welcomed back, just not at $6 million. perhaps a prove-it contract or a deal that pays him $1 to 3 mil this year and takes him back up to the $5-6 range in subsequent years if we keep him beyond that.

  11. PRBucFan Says:

Word is Collins is a capable starter

  12. Thibs5599 Says:

Sign Collins to play RT and keep Penn…doesn’t have enough quality starts to replace a durable Penn….plus maybe if Penn had an oline to play alongside him he wouldn’t of had such a bad season last year. Guy has proved enough to stay on the team and is a vocal leader the offensive line needs.

  13. Thibs5599 Says:

Also Penn is the most exciting offensove lineman I have ever seen play…guy gets in peoples faces and stands up for his teammates all the time he deserves to be a Buc.

    C ya.

  15. Spirit of '76 Says:

Grab Collins to play LT and slide Penn to RT. Looks like we will grab a C/G from Green Bay. Looks like 4 fifth’s of the OL is there. Add a well rounded TE in Myers and we have upgraded over last year. Dotson goes back to swing tackle and anything we get out of Nicks this year (if anything) is gravy. Much better line than what we witnessed last year.

  16. bob ryan Says:

Dotson was the best lineman we had last year, and it wasn’t even close. Penn is a liability in pass protection and seems to get more out of shape as the season wears on. Collins would be a great pickup, and if we get the Packer center we can swing Zuttah to guard, or pick one up in the draft.

  17. Spirit of '76 Says:

I saw Dotson standing too tall, too many times and get pancaked more times that I care to witness again. And playing right tackle. No to Dotson starting again.

  18. Brandon Says:

Dotson, given athleticism and skill set, and physical limitations, is best suited for the left side. All he has done since he got into the league.

  19. owlykat Says:

Licht has already stated that Dotson was our best lineman last year and they will try him at LT in preseason. Collins may be playing RT next year. I would love to see our cut pro bowler guard back with a reduced prove it contract. I think he can play much better this year and we may see Nix back too. Getting the Green bay Center-guard will give us good flexibility. Keep Penn on a reduced salary for depth and with the Giant’s starting TE we can bring Wright in for a two TE offense too that can keep the defense reeling and guessing. With a first round QB too Tedford can build a very good and creative offense! He can use Hester, Smith, or our Olympic sprinter for plenty of speed in space. This will be an exciting season Bud Fans!!!
