Too Much Of A Rutgers Feel

March 6th, 2014

greg schiano 1125

Yes, the Bucs uniform chatter hasn’t died down much since they were unveiled Monday. And one would have to search long and hard on the interwebs to find a positive critique (short of perhaps a NIKE employee).

It’s no surprise that ornery Alan Dell of the Bradenton Herald is no fan of the uniforms. And while some focus on the CFL-like different colored shoulders or the alarm-clock-number font, Dell’s criticism comes with a unique angle.

Dell believes the new Bucs uniforms look too much like Rutgers’ and believes former Bucs commander Greg Schiano — who Dell despised and had an ax to grind with from his first day as head coach — had a hand somehow in the design.

But this Rutgers reminder, no matter how small, cancels all celebrations.

Rutgers reminds us of Schiano, the Scarlet Knights head coach for 11 years before he traveled south to replace Raheem Morris.

And Schiano?

He reminds of MRSA, scandals, back-door knifings, comical game schemes and Lawrence Tynes’ wife flinging harpoons hoping one will land on Schiano’s foot.

Now Joe has no idea what type of knifings Dell is referring to but, geez, some people actually are of the mind Schiano himself snuck into One Buc Palace in the dead of the night and planted the MRSA in the Bucs locker room. To Joe, linking Schiano to MRSA is akin to blaming the source of your cold on Obamacare.

As far as the new uniforms, Joe can’t help but think of “24” when looking at the numbers font. Joe just hopes at the end of Bucs games there isn’t a silent clock.

Learn to love it folks, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

    The new uniforms suck

  4. theDON Says:

this seems to be a reach. or a reach around.

  5. Jon Says:

Dell is a bitter old fool. Writes for a paper no one reads and has no awareness that owners decide jerseys and uniforms not some former coach.

  7. Jon Says:

And I just double posted. See what Dell does to me! He’s evil!

  8. Espo Says:

I’m pretty sure my blood pressure sound spiked the moment I saw Schiano.

  9. BucfaninMO Says:

Can the Bucs were our throwbacks every game. The new uniforms suck sh!t

  10. Nate_tweetz Says:

It’s so funny when you go on the Bucs website to a link they have about social media reaction to the new uniforms you’ll read ONLY the positive reactions. They must of found a way to hire Eric Snowden to find those responses… As for Dell, I think he’s being a little dramatic. Our new unis look nothing like Rutgers unis.

  11. Andrew 1 Says:

The home uniforms are good, not great, but good. The away uniforms…I think a lot of you creative fans out there could have done better. If they changed the numbers, it might actually be alright. But it’s like Joe so, if you dont like them, dont buy them, and then the Glazers might actually do something about it. Thats the best you can hope for.

  12. TylerDurden Says:

Change the size of the flag on the helmet, make the flag orange, get rid of the word bucs on shoulders, get rid of the red and and go with orange on uniform.

  13. PRBucFan Says:

    *Sniffle

    *Grabs Tissue

  14. BoJim Says:

I like them more everyday. They are unique and they are ours. Go Bucs!!!

  15. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I thought Dell just made computers, who knew.

  16. PRBucFan Says:

The word Bucs is one of our trademarks hell have the usernames here have the word in our names.

    *JoeBUCSfan

I love that it’s officially on our Jerseys.

  17. PRBucFan Says:

    half* not have

  18. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Speaking of Tynes. As far as I know, there were no reports of MRSA before his. And, he had just arrived.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, it just doesn’t come about spontaneously (does it?). Could Tynes actually have brought it with him from elsewhere?

(still a thumbs down on the unis)

  19. Mike10 Says:

Love the color change idea Tyler

  20. AceOfAerospace Says:

I still hate the new uniforms.

  21. d-money Says:

This guy is an idiot. They look nothing like the Rutgers uniforms.

As a matter of fact if they looked more like the Rutgers uni’s most fans would probably love them.

  22. d-money Says:

i’ve never heard of Alan Dell but just from reading this post he sounds like a wannabe Martin Fennely.

  23. Eric Says:

He didn’t inject the team wit MRSA, just horrific offensive and defensive schemes.

  24. Touchdown Gus Says:

I like the uniform main because at a glance you can’t confuse it with other teams. As a Terps fan I would say this looks more like maryland uniforms than it does rugters

  25. Chef Paul Says:

This tells me that the people that like the uniform are Schiano apologists and they hate Lovie. Dam Schiano lovers.

  26. Chef Paul Says:

Ok that’s not true. Just trollin a little. 😉

  27. BucfaninMi Says:

I love the new uni’s and the helmets are bad ass!!!

  28. Daffy Buc Says:

Nike has been working on the design for 2 years, so someone from NSO had input. I think when we see them at the OTA next month they will look fine. Seattle’s jersey at first was bold, now everyone is use to it and is even considered cool.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

PRB…the word Buccaneers was on our old jersey on the front. I kind of like the ship on the sleeves vs the word Bucs. Anyway I have a feeling they will do away with that over time.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Oh I get it. Even the new uniforms are Greg Schiano’s fault. Man if I get into an accident on the way to a game next season. I’m certainly telling the cop it was Schiano’s fault.

  31. WalkdaPlank Says:

    No Joe, it’s Freeman’s fault.

  32. ROBERT6 Says:

someone is still butt hurt over Schiano

last time we changed uniforms we won a SB.

I’d take pink and puke green if it got us a SB

  33. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Something tells me a raving traditionalist like Schiano would have nixed the alarm clock numbers…

  34. Joe Says:

last time we changed uniforms we won a SB.

That’s like saying the last time Joe voted for Ronald Reagan, he got his college diploma.

  35. rawr Says:

How is orange better then red for a sport team.
I would actually remove the orange completly and change the font
    otherwise they are bad*ss

  36. BirdDoggers Says:

Only a few days old and the new threads will be remembered as the alarm clock uniforms. That’s how you know a mistake was made. The digital numbers, regardless of what they were supposed to represent, don’t fit the teams logo or history. Otherwise I can sort of live with the uniforms, even if I think the old ones were just fine.

  37. Bucfan#37 Says:

One thing about these new uniforms is that you don’t have to look at them again after the initial look to remember how ugly they really are.

  38. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I don’t know if it was some sort of marketing strategy, but isn’t this very similar to what Seattle did a couple years back.

Unleashed some undesirable Uni’s a for their 1st concept, caused a big media stir. Released the 2nd with less, then finally settling on their current crop of concepts (much to the fans liking).

Lol, Hey maybe they will crowdsource the design concept next.

  39. Fuzzy Red Coin Purse Says:

Buc1987 Says, “Oh I get it. Even the new uniforms are Greg Schiano’s fault. Man if I get into an accident on the way to a game next season. I’m certainly telling the cop it was Schiano’s fault.”

Yes Buc987 you can blame everything on “Shat on yo” remember how he said US Bucs fans don’t really know what we are seeing when we watched the games? AND how HE was going to turn things around for us because WE were the LAUGHING STOCK of the league? AND remember how bush league he was by rushing the line at a kneel down? AND what about funneling players to the Pats or cutting players because he didn’t like the way guys were acting on the sidelines? AND remember how HE MADE us the LAUGHING STOCK with the MERSA ordeal and the petty he said she said Freeman situation?

  40. Roscoe the Pirate Says:

    @ Joe
    You voted for Reagan, LMFAO!

  41. SAMCRO Says:

I think I would rather get a feel for how the players like the new unis. There perspective goes a long way on how they feel wearing the uniform. They could psychologically feel dominant if they think they look dominant. To me I don’t give a cr@p, regardless I will remain a fan. I’m more concerned if our players respect the new design. Good question for Joe to ask the players after their first game in them. For some reason the Seahawk players loved their new ugly @ss uniforms.

  42. PRBucFan Says:

Bucs is used more often than Buccaneers nowadays.

I like both the word Bucs and the ship which it has

  43. Joe Says:

    You voted for Reagan, LMFAO!

One of proudest moments of Joe’s life!

  44. lightningbuc Says:

Is the Bradenton Herald that annoying free newspaper they throw in my driveway once a week?

  45. zam Says:

It’s sad they did something gimmicky to excite fans at the time when the fan base least needed it.

And then to do such a horrible job at it irritates the fans you just won back with the coaching hire! These owners are the gang that couldn’t shoot straight it would seem.

I bet if football fans across the country were polled on the best uniforms that the Bucs pewters would have been at or near the top.

    Dummies.

  46. Roscoe the Pirate Says:

    @ Joe
You Americans are funny, do you collect glove puppets as well?

  47. Eric Says:

Billboards all over town with the new uniforms. Starting to get used to them.

Good job Joe, Reagan got my vote twice……

  48. Joe Says:

Good job Joe, Reagan got my vote twice……

    Same!

  49. OAR Says:

    Joe
Didn’t I mention the other day that these uniform changes take so long (1 to 2 years to complete) that it started under Schiano’s regime and you scoffed at my statement?!

  50. OAR Says:

Personally, the more I look at them the more they look like Burger King uniforms (the colors are exactly the same) with an old 80’s alarm clock on them.
Shaun ‘Burger’ King must love them.

  51. Jerry Says:

    Jesus.

The man is gone. Let it go.

  52. lurker Says:

so this guy makes stuff up and gets written up on jbf. a poster makes stuff up and gets a hiatus.

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I wouldn’t wipe my arse with Alan Dell.

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

btw, I voted for Reagan twice as well. Obama too. May as well offend equally.

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And, btw…I just looked at the Rutgers uniforms. Unless you count the colors? nothing alike.

  56. MTM Says:

The new uni’s are alright. The numbers are biggest issue. I would have to watch Rutgers to see any resemblance and that’s not going to happen. Everybody needs to lighten up on the new uni’s. Go Bucs!

  57. TylerDurden Says:

“How is orange better than yes for a sports team”. ?? Your question makes no sense. It’s obvious you have limited mental capacity. I’ll attempt to explain. Orange was the dominant color int the original uniforms. It makes sense to keep as much orange as possible. There is no correlation that would indicate that a color is “better for a sports team.” Keep in mind, decisions have been made in the past where uniforms have been “changed back” due to displeasure, ala’ Buffalo Sabres.
