Derrick Brooks’ Life May Change Today

February 1st, 2014

Yes, today is the day — annually, the day before the Super Bowl — where the 40-some voters for the Pro Football Hall of Fame gather to kvetch and whine and holler over just which five of the 15 finalists get into Canton.

One of those men is eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune. Kaufman, known in NFL circles as the “Custodian of Canton,” will be presenting three men with Bucs connections: Derrick Brooks, Father Dungy and John Lynch.

Though the proceedings are supposed to be kept confidential by Pro Football Hall of Fame bylaws, Kaufman gave Joe’s good friend, the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, a peek into how he will argue for all three men. In Joe’s eyes, the best odds of being introduced as a member of the Class of 2014 will be Brooks.

Kaufman noted that he began working on his presentations last summer. To hear Kaufman explain how he will go about trying to get all three voted in, click the orange button below.

Loved what all three of these men brought to the organization. I too think that Brooks has the best shot at getting in this time though. Had a thought I wanted to put out there to see what folks’ take on it was. Do you guys think the league’s deglamorization campaign on hard hits might be a big road block for Lynch getting in? I know it’s already hard for safeties to get in but it would look pretty silly for them to induct him on Saturday and show all the highlights of him taking people’s heads off then turn around on Sunday and throw penalties for that same thing saying that we put player safety first. I hope i’m wrong and I hope that he gets in because it would be awesome to have the four horsemen of that dominant Bucs era all in canton

Of course, I hope Derrick gets in the hall, but I don’t think he will, especially first ballot.
Though we know and knew him here in Tampa, he is not exactly a household world outside of the Tampa Bay area.
Dungy is much better known, and maybe even John Lynch, because of their broadcast exposure.
Derrick will always be a hall of famer though, in my book.

@chris lol…. Really? This isent the current bucs… Derrick brooks made what 9 straight pro bowls? Won defensive player of the year? Had a pick 6 In the Super Bowl? That’s funny. Derrick brooks is making first ballet watch nfl network once in awhile, all of the crew constantly say Derrick brooks is going in along with walter jones if they have to choose “locks”… That post was stupid

  4. Wally Says:

I’ve met Brooks a couple times. Nice guy. Genuine. Looks you in the eye. Not as full of himself as some of the other players who frankly weren’t as good. I hope he makes it.

I’m hoping they all make it although it is unlikely all will at the same time.

I do believe, however, that if any of them do they will thank and acknowledge Ira for making their case before the voters, unlike the “mouth” that made it last year.

hahaha – kavetch? That reminds me of Chris Thomas…Man do I miss his show…

    RIP CT…

  7. Clowney Says:

Brooks gets in 1st ballot. Lynch maybe someday. Dungy will never get in.

Derrick Brooks become a household name after his bus united way commercial in the US. Brooks intercepting it and taking it to the house infront of millions of Super Bowl views. He’s highly regarded by Barry Sanders and Jack Ham, both household names….he’ll get in easily. 90 plus percent of the vote when 80 is needed.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

They all are 1st ballot right? If so I don’t think any of them will get in this year. If I had to guess though it would be Brooks.

  10. Alaskan Buc Says:

Anybody know where one could watch this online without having to pay for a membership? They are showing it 3 hours later here in Alaska. Thanks.
