Will Lovie Maximize His Talent?

January 11th, 2014

TCBlountsmileJoe is not about to blast the LeGarrette Blount trade to New England last spring; it was a sound deal for a variety of reasons, and the Bucs’ stable of running backs is in great shape, in part, because of it.

But a clear oversight/misevaluation of the Greg Schiano regime led to that move, and it’s a good example of the difference between a subpar head coach and a great one.

Forget about Blount averaging a whopping five yards per carry for the Patriots this season — 772 yards and seven touchdowns. Again, the Bucs didn’t need Blount to run the ball. But look at Blount the kickoff returner. Among primary kick returners, men who had at least 16 during the regular season, Blount is ranked fifth in the NFL with a 29.1-yard return average and no fumbles.

Schiano spent so much of 2012 searching for a kick returner, but he never used Blount in that role. Blount was active for every game yet never got a sniff. Bucs fans watched Michael Smith, Arrelious Benn, Jordan Shipley, Tiquan Underwood, LeQuan Lewis, DJ Ware and Roscoe Parrish return kicks. None were any good.

Somehow, Bill Belicheat looked at Blount’s open-field skills and revived ball security (since 2011), and made him a kick returner this preseason.

It’s just a great example of a coach maximizing his roster. Joe hopes Lovie Smith is such a coach.

Something to think about when you watch the Patriots-Colts playoff game tonight.

  1. RED MAN Says:

Spot on Joe. It’s pretty sad looking back and seeing some of the talent schitler willingly gave up on. Many of which played positions where we suffered from a painfully obvious lack of depth over the course of the season…i.e. Bennett, Blount, and even Roy Miller & Benn. Beyond excited that we now have a proven and competent head coach that will get the most out of this team.

  2. chickster Says:

that coach was the patriots chump boy picked are pockets he sucked as a coach and a gm and there is no other way to say it Joe we got ripped off from the inside and the outside of planet anus

  3. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I am so glad both Schiano and Dominik are gone.
Schiano seems to have paid back Belichik for getting him the job in Tampa.
Every time I see Talib play, I think of what it would have been like, with both Revis and him on our team.

  4. PRBucFan Says:

One thing is for sure his last season he here absolutely stunk when he did get carries lol.

He was good for rumbling into the linemans backsides and falling down..
    and maybe 1 long run.

Like you said, he’s not missed in the least bit in regards to RB’s.

Once Hester is here, we won’t need a return man 😉

  5. Bucfan#37 Says:

I,m pissed at losing Blount to the Patriots. Schiano decided he was’nt his type of running back. Blount proved his worth. It was a dumb move. Schiano seemed too in awe of Belicheat. In the early season game at Patriots, the Pats coach called off his team at the end, they could of scored more easily.

  6. Bucsd04 Says:

Holy crap….when Blount was hear everyone complained that he couldn’t block and couldn’t catch passes out of the backfield! He still can’t do it so schisms was spot on in his evaluation

  7. Bucsd04 Says:

    Schiano

  8. Bucsd04 Says:

And cabby slugging Talib let to many big plays by him and couldn’t stay out of trouble……only difference this year is its his contract year so he is flying straight but still letting big plays by him…..

  9. Oahubuc Says:

Schiano was a total chump, and we’ll see further evidence in a few hours.

  10. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Bryan Cox signed by the Fowlclowns to coach their D-Line.

  11. PRBucFan Says:

Look fact is whether they are having success elsewhere it doesn’t mean or change the fact that they blew it here.

  12. Oahubuc Says:

It means they have a real football coach.

  13. teacherman777 Says:

Anybody intereted in bringing Michael Vick and Tim Tebow to the Bucs on the cheap?

I think we should sign them both.

  14. Doc Says:

oversight/misevaluation, or if you talked back, or disagreed with him he would run upstairs and demand that the player or player’s be cut or not resigned.

  15. PRBucFan Says:

LoL? Talib has had his problems through multiple coaches college/pros and any coach would have been forced to cut him after so many strikes.

I was his biggest fan and what’s truly funny is that most everyone here was screaming for his release, claiming he was not even skilled lol.

And now that he’s having success they want to act as if they weren’t.

I said if he could stay healthy and out of trouble he would be elite, and so far he’s done just that.

He had no choice, it was either straighten up or he’s out of the NFL.

  16. Couch Fan Says:

    Anybody watching the Saints/Hawks game?

  17. Oahubuc Says:

Bennett with a big forced fumble.

  18. PRBucFan Says:

Yup it’s the same as the first time they played couch lol

  19. PRBucFan Says:

Dom/Schiano were boneheads for allowing Bennett to walk, he was one of my favorites last season

  20. BucYou Says:

Just watched Michael Bennett cause and recover a fumble, but the Dummy Boys let him get away without even a sniff of an offer. Screw them.

  21. MT Tom Says:

I’ll miss two things about Schiano. The ball security he seemed to bring to the running game and the upstanding players (Buccaneer Men) they tried to focus on. Yeah, there were Eric Wrights but overall Dom and Schiano brought a bunch of good guys to the team and seemed to prefer apparently upstanding individuals. Is it worth it vice winning football games? I guess not. But I’m going to keep my fingers crossed we don’t regress much on those two items.

Of course record breaking penalty totals, weak 2nd halfs and sub par performances of many of the “Buccaneer Men” seemed to be the downside.

  22. Patrick in VA Says:

Hope Lovie’s watching this game. Seahawks are showing everyone what football’s supposed to look like.

  23. PRBucFan Says:

Whelp, maybe it’s safe to say Brees’s kryptonite is rain lol

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Blount…up the middle for a 2 yard gain.

  25. nate_tweetz Says:

Watching the Saints/Seahawks game makes me SO MAD about letting Micheal Bennett leave the Bucs. I’m so glad Schiano and Dominick are gone. There were way too many players sent packing that could have helped this team. I can’t blame it solely on the Coach. Even if Schiano didn’t think Bennett or Talib were “Buccaneer Men”, Dominick should of told him “too bad!” and made him utilize their talents or go job hunting. That didn’t happen. They both deserved to go.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How long are we going to have to endure the Talib/Blount/Bennett stories?

How about I bring up our #! overall draft pick Bo Jackson….never played a down for us!

Time to move on with the players we have and the new ones to come…..

  27. Buc1987 Says:

Uh oh TBBF…I feel a “Joe doesn’t come into your house” any minute now.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Aqub Talib had every opportunity to straighten up and play well in Tampa….just didn’t happen…I’m happy that the guy appears to finally have grown up and is playing with passion.
If that’s the coach, God, his Mom or the Adderall….it doesn’t matter.
The key to these people leaving isn’t how well they play elsewhere….its who did we replace them with, and how did they play?

We got a 4th round pick for Talib….I think Gholsten (to be determined) may be a good deal.

We got James & Demps for Talib….James is solid & at least Demps played for us (perhaps he plays more)

Bennett….we expected Bowers to perform and he didn’t….

That is the story….not Bennett playing well…Bowers playing poorly…

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    James & Demps for Blount

  30. Robbie_G Says:

With all the credit Schiano and Dom for drafting they let a TON of good pros go who making noise for other teams. Bennett, Gilberry, Selvie, Blount, Talib. They were not ” Buccaneer men”. But they sure are Seahawk, Cowboy, Bengal, and Patriot
    men.

  31. PRBucFan Says:

If Talib would have remained who HE WAS when he was here, he wouldn’t be playing football. He would have been kicked out.

So it had nothing with being a Buccaneer man and completely with consequence for his actions.

  32. Oahubuc Says:

“We” expected Bowers to perform at the time we let Our best DE walk? Please leave me out of that equation.

  33. PRBucFan Says:

I think that’s insinuated considering it was only the coaches opinion that mattered on that subject lol

  34. Greg Says:

Would have love to have Bennett this year. Thanks asshole schiano and dom

  35. Patrick in VA Says:

We’ve got such a long way to go…..

  36. Oahubuc Says:

    Bennett with another FF.

  37. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Wow, the Seahawks are making the Saints look like…well…the Bucs.

  38. Barry Says:

Glad Blount is effing out of here. 5plus a carry? Thank you Tom Brady. Move on Joe

  39. PRBucFan Says:

Except we actually took them to OT at Seattle 😉

  40. Brandon Says:

Anybody that thinks Blount can’t block, or still can’t block in their words, has brain damage. Do you think one of the greatest coaches in NFL history would trust Blount to pass block, or even be in the same backfield, as one of the greatest QBs in history if he couldn’t block for him?

    HELL NO!
Blount was talented, he could catch, he could block, he always could, now we know he is a far better kick returner than anybody we have. including Jeff Demps (Jeff Gimps). I thought this was a huge mistake when it happened, and I think it was a huge mistake now.

  41. PRBucFan Says:

He was not the complete back you make him out to be.

He’s not missed in our talented backfield.

Hester will be a nice returner for us 😀

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I sort of miss Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer & Steve Young…..they all won Superbowls with othr teams…..

    Gee Wiz!….I miss them so!!!

  43. chickster Says:

Look what Bennett did today wow

  44. BucYou Says:

    Dilfer sucked

  45. Andrew 1 Says:

That whole Blount situation always puzzled me. I think there was more that went on while he was then was let on. That being said, its water under the bridge, plus we have one hell of a running back that you all are forgetting. Who would you rather have Doug Martin or Legarrete Blount? case closed.

Just so it’s clear, Joe’s actual post here is not about the running back position. –Joe

  46. RealityCheck Says:

Andrew, there was never any EITHER/OR question involved. Nobody is forgetting Doug Martin.

  47. Eric Says:

Please don’t try and compete with these teams with Glennon.

    Please.

  48. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yes…we let Blount go….I wonder if they are whining about it at Tennessee?…..we picked him up from them as an undrafted free agent and got two years and a draft pick for him….
I hope he plays well and becomes the MVP of the Superbowl….or, maybe I would like Talib…
    Co MVPs….thats it!!!

  49. PRBucFan Says:

He had one 100 yard game this season and suddenly he’s the best player ever lol.

Seriously though I am glad he can actually convert the short and distance now cause god knows he was incapable of that while he was here.

  50. Mumbles Says:

I’m happy for Blount. He deserved better than he got! Justice served!

  51. Chef Paul Says:

PR has spoken everyone. That’s the end of the story. The know it all spread his gospel so there is nothing more to say. Oh, you have a differing opinion? TOUGH! The holy one is here to clear everything up. After all we are all simpletons to him.

  52. Chef Paul Says:

no one is being the victim know it all. You are a condescending prick and I’m calling you out on it. nice of you to say people debate opposing view point, but your arrogant arse wont let anyone else have an opinion. Read some of your posts. You are the biggest ass on these boards and its not even close.

  53. ctord Says:

I think Blount needed to be coached up. He was a Heisman candidate until that punch. He has talent and if you watch him run now, he hits the line hard. He needed better coaching. Lovie is a better coach.

  54. gotbbucs Says:

    @PRBuc
You would have to be an idiot to not see Blount as a useful player on any roster. Yes, he’s a throwback type player that isn’t an every down back in todays game, but he was worth more than a pinch of dog sh!t like we got in exchange for him. He went to a strong team that had used two early round picks on RB’s only a couple years previous and forced those two guys to the bench.

The Blount and Talib situation speaks more to where we’ve been as an organization recently than it does about those two players character and skills.
We’ve been forced to overpay for every player we’ve signed in recent years and other GOOD teams happy been happy as hell to grab up the “BAD” players that we’ve been throwing away.

  55. PRBucFan Says:

This board is full top to bottom of people posting disagreeing opinions.

If you wanna take it personnel that’s on you.

I mean you’ve spent enough time trying to get my attention since that first thread we had our disagreement by whining over and over on new threads after new thread about how much your feelings have been hurt. I’ve ignored it but get over it and move on.

Either way I won’t waste another second on you, posting to you or even reading anything you post. So don’t bother lol.

  56. MadMax Says:

Its so awesome seeing Blount kicking a$$$$. Im happy for him, Bennett, and Talib. More fine examples of failure from the dom/shiano crap! So glad they’re gone!!!!

  57. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I hope LGB scores 8 TDs tonight and breaks an NFL record…..

And, if it bothers you everytime he scores or gains a few yards….you’ve really got a problem if you’re thinking about your ex wife or girlfriend…..she’s probably having a great Saturday night too…..without you!

  58. Chef Paul Says:

Plus reading your responses proves you don’t read very well. I wont argue with you over your twisting of words, but Ill call you out when you are being a pompous ass. Should be a full time job.

  59. Jamaica Buc Says:

… We could NEVER use a player like Blount. He’s just NOT very effective 🙂

  60. Chef Paul Says:

Typical tactic of the know it all. not wanting to learn because you already know it all

  61. PRBucFan Says:

TBBF, I love getting under little girlies skin ahahaha.

  62. PRBucFan Says:

TBBF, atleast he’s gotten better in those goaline situations though.

Something he lacked the ability to do here.

  63. Chef Paul Says:

    I bet you do pedo

  64. 1976Buc Says:

What’s not being said here is that at least 1/2 of the names mentioned here demanded to be traded. Schiano, Rock Star nor anyone else controlled it. These players and their Agents would not have been back in Tampa. LGB signed with Tampa for $1.5 Million and took almost a $1 Million dollar pay cut to go to New England.

  65. Buc1987 Says:

Chef Paul…that’s not fair. I thought I was the biggest ass on these boards. Damn…no respect.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

1976Buc…”demanded” where did you learn about all this from? This just in: Blount and Talib demanded to be traded.

    Chef Paul…see I’m trying.

  67. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can’t we all just get along?….do we need BucFansSuck to bring us together?

  68. Buc1987 Says:

On second thought. I think I did read that Blount wanted to be traded, but I don’t know about Talib.

  69. Chef Paul Says:

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poster bitch so hard because someone doesn’t share their same opinion.”

That one sentence right there proves your skull is as thick as they come.

It’s not about you disagreeing with anything I say. It’s about post after post after post, you the first condescending prick on it. There is disagreeing, and there is what you do, which being a dick to everyone.

  70. PRBucFan Says:

TBBF, I’m not fretting it lol.

We had a good debate the other day, even though I had to come and admit I was wrong to you 😉

That the first time we have in a while right? I can’t remember, usually its us on the same side lol

  71. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I love it when Joe does his “WHINER” articles….those are the ones with Bennett, Blount & Talib…..it brings out all the whiners….after all, Joe has to make a living.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

Yikes…tony2cents was a dick to everyone.

  73. Couch Fan Says:

Blount with 3 TDs on the day. Let the whining continue.

  74. Buc1987 Says:

Well last off-season we argued about Free Willy. I wonder what it will be this time around.

  75. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    There’s 3 for LGB….5 more to go!!!

  76. Couch Fan Says:

I thought tony2cents was funny myself. The way he had to call me out every article. It kind of inflated my ego.

  77. PRBucFan Says:

    I don’t know about all that 1987

Talib was one I always defended “skill wise” but everyone was calling for his head.

People are just singing a different tune now that he’s straightened up his act.

You can only violate so many NFL rules.

  78. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hand Aquib the ball!……let him have some of the action…

  79. Buc1987 Says:

    Br-ady + Blount = a pretty good Blount.

  80. Mumbles Says:

Looking back now, that Schiano guy was an even bigger idiot than I thought he was! Blount just needed a coach! SMDH.

  81. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Aqib……I keep forgetiting his Mom forgot the U after the Q….

  82. Buc1987 Says:

PRB..no I’m saying I don’t think Talib demanded a trade. Did I want him gone from the team? Oh HELL no. I was a Talib fan as well.

  83. Buc1987 Says:

Mumbles…yah and the guy that hired him was an even bigger idiot.

  84. Couch Fan Says:

LOl I seen that PR. He made it to easy to spot him in a crowd. I think he just finally gave up or Joe banned him and all his names.

  85. Chef Paul Says:

TBBF and 1987, I know I’m coming off as a whiner to you, and that’s fine. I’d be saying the same thing if I was in your shoes. I like and respect your opinions very much. I’m sorry to you and everyone for having to read that. And you too couch. Ever since we got rid of Freeman, I find myself agreeing with you more.

But I’m not sorry to PR

  86. Couch Fan Says:

Lol no problem Chef. I dont take anything personal. Were all passionate Buc fans. Except that Raphael guy.

  87. Couch Fan Says:

Lol no problem chef. I dont take anything personal. And yea ’87 I’m pretty sure it was him to. I swear I remember reading that comment but just couldn’t find it.

  88. PRBucFan Says:

1987, Couch, TBBF, myself The four Caballeros bwahahaha 😉

LUV is the new inductee lolz

No but 1987 we showed that guy what was up

  89. Buc1987 Says:

Chef Paul…no need to apologize on this end. I was a good read actually. Finally some excitement around here.

Also we are not the only ones Freeman fooled. There are probably 10’s of thousands of people he fooled. No Couch and PRB that was not meant to boost your go either.

  90. Buc1987 Says:

    ego*

  91. Couch Fan Says:

“Josh Freeman, one of 30 Bucs starting QBs that failed to lead us to the playoffs”

  92. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Wow when did the 260 Ib running back (Legarrette Blount), stop tiptoeing through the line like a little tulip? Shows what great environment & coaching does for a guy’s career. Geesh

  93. PRBucFan Says:

Yea it’s no longer The Fat Boys ahahaha

And thank you, but Couch and I were right 😛 lolz

  94. Buc1987 Says:

Who thinks the Panthers are going to beat the Niners? I do.

  95. LUVMYBUCS Says:

First mission: Make the obnoxious Freemanites (a select few) lives miserable.–ahahahahahahahaha..Burnt the Buc out!!! lol smh I tell yeah

  96. Couch Fan Says:

I was cracking up when I heard Duemig suggest us to resign him. Only the Big Dog would suggest such a thing.

  97. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m really disappointed that Bennett didn’t score tonight!!!

  98. Buc1987 Says:

Wait a second I was an obnoxious Freemanite….Bucnjunkie was probably worse though.

Atleast I caught on to Freeman after week 2. I wanted him benched. Ra-phael on the other hand was in loooooooove!

Damn caught the filter with that dudes name. Must still be blocked for calling Couch Fan a clan member.

  99. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I hope Eric Wright is healthy and has 4 interceptions tomorrow.

  100. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Tomorrows game between Panther & 49ers will be insane. Mano E Mano, strength vs strength.

  101. MadMax Says:

Hahaha, thanks Couch and PR. Sorry for being gone so long…was just so disgusted with the dom/schiano/sullivan/sheridan era. The poo was overflowing the toilet…glad it finally got flushed 😉

plus the new job is kicking my butt with 12 hour days….

  102. PRBucFan Says:

LoL You saw the light 1987 lolz, that’s all that matters 😉

and I think the Panthers win too

  103. Buc1987 Says:

Max…it’s good to actually HAVE a job.

  104. Couch Fan Says:

LMAO Yes!! That’s another good one!!

  105. Buc1987 Says:

LOL the “I’m always right” speeches. I debated and made a good case for Freeman though. I could have been his lawyer. Even took a poll. It was still a fun summer of debating anyways. Me being wrong about Freeman makes me hate him even more though. Damn it I even held up that damn banner. What a fool I was. I’d like to punch that guy in the face.

  106. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Now….the subjet of the article is Lovie maximizing talent….what talent….to read some of these posters….Schiano and Dominick ran off all the great talent…they are playing in the playoffs…..Bennett, Blount, Talib & Wright (Wright’s a real stretch)….

  107. Buc1987 Says:

    Damn.

  108. Couch Fan Says:

It’s all good ’87. Football brings out the stupid in all of us. Lol

  109. MadMax Says:

Lol, oh man, “the list” was classic!!!!! ROFL!!!

  110. Buc1987 Says:

lol I don’t even think I still have that list. I had to reformat my computer and lost my JBF copy and paste file.

TBBF…how’s N.C. any ice storms this year? Man I was there during a BS ice storm. The entire county lost power for 3 days. I had newborn baby too. Good thing I had fireplace or I would have been screwed. Some people had no power for 2 weeks, I think it was Durham.

  111. Buc1987 Says:

You guys are cracking me up!

  112. Ladyfan Says:

nothing has made me more mad than losing Blount. And before that how we used him so badly. Grrr Grrr Grr. l want him back. Now. Yeah I know. Its over.

  113. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Lol, Good times..Good times

  114. Buc1987 Says:

I told Couch Fan he was not allowed on Freeman’s bandwagon after the season started. If he tried, I was throwing him off. lol

  115. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

I’m in Wilmington…so no ice here….but I think it was bad in Raleigh & Greensboro……
Heading down to Tampa later this month to see Grandson in Wesley Chapel
Will drive by an empty Ray-Jay & dream of better days….

  116. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

Connor Barth is from here….local hero in this small town.

  117. PRBucFan Says:

    That was so funny.

Oddly I cared so much about where I was on that list.

I remember stating my case as to why I was in the prove me wrong group and making sure 1987 put me there.

    Man that’s hilarious

  118. MadMax Says:

Oh I hated that dmn ice storm….power out for 8 days…thankfully I was able to stay with my sister. Then the power came back on, and the guy living above me had his hot water heater break apart (while neither one of us was home). I came home to a rainforest playing out from my kitchen ceiling and 3 inches of water collecting on my hardwood floors….uhggg! Thankfully his insurance covered everything.

  119. PRBucFan Says:

    Wilmington huh?

I’m very close to you in Elkton MD right about now visiting some fam.

    It’s a small world lol

  120. Buc1987 Says:

Okay well I gotta get in my jacuzzi now and watch the game. I bought an above ground jacuzzi and put it inside my house. People come over and say wtf. Then they always say well only you would do something like that. Have a good night guys. Go Bucs, go Lovie.

  121. MadMax Says:

Awesome, I hunt here too 🙂

… We could NEVER use a player like Blount. He’s just NOT very effective 🙂
    ————–
Big ups. Spanish town, Ensom City!!!!

I’m one that was sad to see Blount and Talib go. The point is, you don’t get rid of good talent talent unless you know you can successfully replace them. And in a league where you need multiple backs to be successful, you keep Blount. In a league where you need players that can get to the qb, you keep Bennett.

I won’t act like I know who’s supposed to get the blame here. I want to blame Schiano for not knowing how to use him like a “real” coach would. I want to blame Dominick for not saying, “tough titties. Use him.” Even on that scenario, if schiano doesn’t use him after being forced to keep him on the roster, what’s to say you have to play him? And then, there’s no point in you (the gm) keeping someone on the roster if they’re not being used. That would be bad money management.

Smh. I’m just happy we finally have some experience in the top football positions now after 5 years of a inexperience. Definitely looking forward to what this season has in store. ESPECIALLY with Tillman and Hester in the fold. I still have high hopes for Banks. I would have no issues with Banks being the 3rd back, with Tillman as nickel in sub packages. and just know Hester will be here next year. I can feel it.

    Go Bucs

  124. Cmurda Says:

Wow man. I’m glad I’m not a Colts fan. Do the Patriots literally get every single call or what? Pass Interference? Teriible call. If Dan Dierdorf actually watched the play instead of jamming his tongue down Tom Brady’s throat, he would have noticed the receiver grabs the cornerback. I hate the Patriots and the crap home-cooking they get.

  125. Architek Says:

I think Blount is doing one thing better – seeing and hitting the hole with decisiveness.

Doug Martin is superior talent woes and production to Blount- not even in the same league!

  126. MadMax Says:

Gamecock born and bred till the day Im dead!!!! And we WILL win the 6th in a row as long as yabbo dabbo is their coach 😉

But give me Sammy and Im happy. I dont know exactly how Clowney will do under that Tampa heat. Maybe he could adjust….but he’ll be gone in the top 4 or 5. Give me Barr and Im happy there too.

  127. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There are lots of Falcon & Panther fans in Columbia & Greenville……Wilmington is Redskin & Panther territory.

  128. Waterboy Says:

Yeah Schiano and Dominik let a lot of good talent that didn’t fit the “Buccaneer man” profile get away. I never liked the way he immediately gave Doug Martin the starting job when he took over and stopped giving Blount the ball (from 153 carries in 2011 to 41 carries in 2012 while Martin had 319 carries in 2012). Doug Martin is a dynamic back with decent hands and quickness but I’m probably one of the only fans that’s not all that impressed by him up to this point. He had a that one big game against Oakland last year and a few other decent games but he’s not a game changer. IMO he’s more of a 3rd down back where as Blount is a guy that should have been used on 1st and 2nd down.

  129. PRBucFan Says:

Oh my goodness your not kidding TBBF lol

I would love either of them honestly though

  130. PRBucFan Says:

Yeah, its usually just me and 2 other Buc fans at most places Ive been to watch the game….sometimes just me 🙂 But I love being the underdog lol.

  132. PRBucFan Says:

    I’m a Cane lol

  133. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Now that Schiano is gone and we don’t need “Buccaneer Men”…..Maybe we can get creative and get Aaron hernandez on work release!!!

  134. Cmurda Says:

Are the refs instructed not to call penalties on the Patriots? This is insane. Do you honestly think that takedown by the Pats wouldn’t be called if it were on the Colts secondary?

  135. MadMax Says:

Alright, thats cool….just needed to know lol

  136. PRBucFan Says:

    Cmurda

    Yea it’s been pretty sketchy

  137. Cmurda Says:

And now we get a trip mysteriously not called on America’s Team, the New England Patriots.

  138. Cmurda Says:

I just want to see it called evenly and let the boys decide it on the field. I’ve seen worse but I am seeing some definite homecooking.

  139. Patrick Says:

Look at that!! Another huge run by Blount!

    F’K you Mark Dominik!

  140. PRBucFan Says:

He is always good for one long highlight run lol

    That’s 4 for you TBBF

  141. MadMax Says:

That Blount cant find the hole….only 4 td’s so far ….smh

And yes he wanted to be traded because he knew his talents werent being used under schitiano.

  142. 911bucs Says:

It was such a good move to get rid of Blount.

  143. Matt Says:

  146. Bucfan#37 Says:

Gotta pull for the 49ers over Panthers. NO and Bucs are tied with 1 super bowl win among division foes. I don’t want Carolina to get a matching trophy.

  147. Brandon Says:

Blount’s looking like a pretty complete back right now… and even if he doesn’t, which he does, the part that works really well… is kicking ass. Schiano should have realized the talent that was in front of him, the same talent MOST Bucs fans saw, and only the misguided, uninformed, or novice (Schiano) could fail to see. He’s a special player and he’s continuing to prove that.

  148. stratobuc Says:

I got news for you, he didn’t play like that while he was here. Dancing in the hole – no yards after contact. He needed to move on.

  149. Grudenite Says:

Had we kept Blount and not drafted Martin who could we have gotten (missed out on?)

  150. Couch Fan Says:

I think the Kittys will beat the 9ers tomorrow then lose to Seattle next week.

  151. PRBucFan Says:

It is what it is, he really didn’t do much to impress his last season with us.

He looked especially anemic the times we did use him on short down and distance.

Blount is the kind of guy that need needs lots of carries to get going.

17 carries, he wouldn’t be afforded 17 carries in 1 game when our feature back is Dougie.

Our current stable of backs is as deep as it gets in the NFL, all healthy next year, the NFL should look out.

Happy for him, he would be better off where he can get those carries

    @Joe

With the interest being somewhat high on DE Michael Bennett. Wouldn’t it be better to use the Franchise Tag designation on Bennett during (Feb. 18th-March 4th) period and trade him to a proposed buyer.

Sure the terms to trade can vary depending on what the team is asking for in return. But the Draft has some good prospects at DE-Like Datone Jones, Sam Montgomery, Devin Taylor, Corey Lemonier. And Hybrids like Brandon Jenkins, Jamie Collins, and Trevardo Williams.

I’m just saying wouldn’t it be better 2 let him walk. Pick up a draft choice or 2 in return.

Spread the love across the Roster

    For Example: Depth Concerns

DT:Gerald McCoy. If dude goes down herrreee weeee go again. So signing someone like Oaklands 6′ 6″, 311 lbs DT Desmond Bryant.

Sign another Oakland player that’s not getting alot of buzz 6′ 6″, 285 lbs DE Matt Shaughnessy . He’s been the league for 4yrs has complied 123Tkls and 15.5 Sks

    Sign (2) Veteran Corners:
    6-2 182 lbs CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie(Bradenton,FLA) & 5’9 180 lbs Slot CB D.J Moore (Lakeland, FLA)

Sign 5-11 210 lbs S Patrick Chung. Since dude has been banged up the last 2 yrs. He should come at a bargain.

    Offense sign

6-6 245 lbs TE Jared Cook. With Jackson & Williams on the outside Cook in the Middle. We would give opposing defense match up fits.

    Plus Re-Up Mike Williams

    (PROSPECTIVE TRADE TARGETS)

#18 Dallas- Is switching to a 4-3, and due to his age(29) and the 120% rule Dallas will most likely let Anthony Spencer walk

#25 Seattle-43 days ago Seahawks lost 31yr old DE Chris Clemons to a torn ACL & Meniscus

    #34 Jacksonville

    #38 Cleveland

Well can’t get ’em all right..lol

  159. blackmagic00 Says:

There might be 3 former bucs in the super bowl. This is ridiculous. I’m starting to hate schiano and the pop star

  160. Brandon Says:

Blount’s missed maybe 2 games in his career… I love Doug… but what did he miss this season? 10? Blount is durable. A good coach would have gotten the most out of him, like Belichick is doing now… and if Belichick trusts Blount enough to protect one of the best QBs in the history of the league… he must be able to block a little.

  161. PRBucFan Says:

    Alrighty, y’all have a gnight.

Can’t stand seeing the Patsies do well lol.

  162. Tampabaybucfan Says:

OK…..lets do some sour grapes…..Chant with me….LGB Sucks!!!…..Talib Sucks!!!…..Bennett Sucks!!! and Wright really does SUCK!!!

  163. MadMax Says:

LOL, still alive buddy…working too much tho, 3rd shift at that….good to hear from you man, a new day in Tampa Bay now!!! Look out NFC South!

….and Blount just made another big run!!!!!

  164. BucYou Says:

Yeah, lousy backs average 7.3 yards per carry.

  165. MadMax Says:

  168. rjhurst813 Says:

Man Blount has a low batting average, but the guy can hit the long ball.
He’s the football version of Sammy Sosa.

You have got to be kidding me! You did nothing but sh!t on Blount all night in between the massive ego stroking to one another and this is what you have to say? GTFO! I remember when their used to be half way intelegent football conversations on JBF, not so much anymore I guess.

    Whoa!!!!!

I just read that Martin isn’t durable because he missed 10 games. Wtf??
Blame coaching for giving Martin a deep route and had to go against a taller defender. At that time sully was desperate for anything that for the first time that I recall Martin was a Wr lining up. Why did our idiot offensive coach think of that? Plus we also told Martin to run up the middle every time. I give Martin props for being told to do something bad look decent.

  178. Bucs Oracle Says:

You are wrong Joe, the trade was moronic and ego driven, Blount should have punched Schiano in the mouth.

  179. Oahubuc Says:

“Blount became the first player in NFL history with at least 150 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a playoff game during the team’s 43-22 win Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. (And that was actually a comedown from his Week 17 performance against the Buffalo Bills.) After the Bills game, we wrote that Blount was face of this strangely effective Patriots season… It’s even more odd that Blount, a player that was traded for Jeff Demps (!) in April, is playing so well.” _Gregg Rosenthal

  180. Bigbucfan1 Says:

Boy i sure am glad Blount is no longer with the Bucs! I mean he only ran for 6 touchdowns!! What a slacker! He should have ran for at least 10. Nothing worse than a lazy player. I mean he could not even put his toes on the line during training camp. I also heard thru the grapevine that his tootsie roll wrapper was found in the WRONG trash can!!! Gasp!! We are definitely a better team with Dougie and without that malcontent!!!

  181. MTM Says:

After Blounts 2 game tear. Somebody comment on what a great talent evaluator Schiano was. Glad the f*$ ktard is gone! Go Bucs!

  182. PTWALK Says:

Shiano wanted his players to stay in line but he got out of line in terms of breaking unwritten coaching rule. Got rid of players that did similar things. He probably would’ve gotten rid of loud mouth Sapp too.

  183. Left_Coast_Bucs_Fan Says:

Never liked the Blount trade and had a feeling the day would come when Bucs fans would be angry about it, today’s the day. What might soothe the wound though would be if the guy the Bucs got in the trade, Demps, ends up being the answer at KO return for Lovie next season and becomes the next Hester here in Tampa.

I hope everyone saw how Michael Bennett did in the Seattle game. He is just anther example why Mark Dominic couldn’t manage a coke machine. It would always be running out of change and soda. The soda that was in it would be the wrong kind of soda and the amount he’d be charging would be wrong. I’m glad that clown is gone and I hope he DOESNT find another job. He set the bucs 5 years behind with his assenine picks and foolish trades. I don’t have forever to live and wait for the bucs to be good. Again good riddance to you mark..you f@(&ing schmuck.

  186. Left_Coast_Bucs_Fan Says:

BTW Joe, your opinions are usually right on but I do find it difficult to NOT blast the Blount trade. Martin, James, Smith & Demps are all good but undersized RBs, almost clones of each other. Blount was the change up, the beast who plays like a bull in a china store. The only weaknesses I saw in him while playing for the Bucs was his footwork in goal line situations, something Belicheat and his staff seems to have resolved quite easily. That translates to bad coaching and ultimately even worse asset swapping by Schiano and his staff.

  187. Grudenite Says:

Still have images of several packers players trying to bring blount down our game in Green bay. I think that was also the game he hurdled a tackler. Guy was and still is a beast.

  188. richardtyson Says:

I would love to take the opportunity of waterboarding Mark Dominic while yelling in his ear….WHY!!!!!!?

  189. richardtyson Says:

Please hire a gm who is just the opposite of Dominic…a good one.

  190. Clowney Says:

Letting talent go without real compensation is just one of the small ways the Little General destroyed this team.

The sad thing to me is that Blount is treated like a red headed step child in NE because he was acquired for a 7th round pick. Even the commentators at halftime ignored his accomplishments. The info babe declared it the Legarrette Blount 1st half but the highlights were all Brady passes (7) even though none of them scored.

Legarrette is kicking ass even from the #3 RB spot.

Blount was the most exciting running back in Buc history but because he was not highly drafted he never got a break.

That’s like being passed over for a promotion because the idiot that’s now your boss went to Harvard.

PTWalk is correct, Warren Sapp would have been traded to Seattle for a 7th round pick because he wouldn’t bend over for any man on Earth.

He didn’t get the job done his last yer when he got his carries, he’s gotten better, Martin is still head over heels a better back.

All the same thoughts, but that doesn’t mean I’m not happy for him in NE.
