Continuing his impressive media tour of just about every NFL outlet known to the free world, new Bucs coach Lovie Smith recently appeared on “Late Hits,” co-hosted by Alex Marvez and Bill Polian, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Lovie and Polian, the longtime Colts general manager, seemed to bond when the two discussed how much Lovie learned taking a year off from the NFL and how difficult it is to construct a coaching staff.

Lovie has had some time to think, study & review candidates…..sounds like it really helped him hit the ground running….a much better situation than Schiano two years ago.

    I don’t know some of these hires….but I don’t matter.

  2. PRBucFan Says:

Hopefully the fact that most of these guys have worked with each other in some form or another really helps in getting a unified vision/philosophy spread from the coaches to the players quickly and effectively.

  3. Brandon Says:

I’m just happy that we acted quickly in assembling our staff. I think that was a huge mistake two years ago when we waited so long to hire the wrong guy and got the bottom rung assistants that were available to us. Seriously, Mike Sullivan’s resume looked pretty good… but Bill Sheridan… worst hire EVER. Terrible resume, and did an even worse job.

  4. Bucfan#37 Says:

It’s amazing how many assistant coaches are needed to primp, prompt and pamper these latter day pro players.

  5. Chef Paul Says:

Hopefully Polian and Lovie bonded so much, Polian begged him for a GM job.

  6. Jon Says:

Just like Polian…he learned how to hire his son. Just great, how’d that work out in Indy or Washington?

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Yeah Jon that surely means that the Bucs are going to suck. Woe is me.

  8. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I agree with Buc1987, stop being negative Jon.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

….and there you have it Jon.

    3 Bucs final 15 HOF

    Brooks, Dungy, Lynch

    Good news :D

  12. Buc1987 Says:

PRB…STOP stealing Joe’s thunder. He’s probably preparing an article right now about it. That’s okay. I hear your on his good side anyways these days. lol

  13. PRBucFan Says:

Stop sucking up to Joe 1987 ;) , he has plenty of those around these parts

But my bad, I was just excited.

That being said, I wasn’t aware it was Joe’s thunder to steal or his news for that matter.

    and that’s unfortunate lol

  14. PRBucFan Says:

You know I’m just joshing with ya ;)

    Hope you are too lol

  15. SteveK Says:

Excited to see who our QB is next year. Tedford has quite a reputation for developing guys. Glennon is an eager beaver. It would be awesome to see Glennon be next year’s Nick Foles.

  16. BUChead Says:

The way Lovie answered the “final say over personnel decisions” question made me wonder if the clause was less about power over a GM but more so having power over the Glazers to have the final say.

I don’t know if that’s the case, but that’s the impression I got reading between the lines. They have meddled a lot in past years, and not always for the better. I think this power over the GM thing is being blown out of proportion.

And let’s make no mistake, the Glazers are hiring the GM. With lovie’s say, but they are hiring him.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

lol yah I am PRB lol

  18. Jon Says:

You guys don’t think it’s a possible concern. You must be Glazers in disguise!

  19. stanglassman Says:

Is there a snag in the O-Line coach (wiki has him hired by Bucs) Tony Sparano? Last time we had a delayed hire it was the GM spot, Ballard from KC and that didn’t turn out so well. I’m starting to get concerned.

  20. PRBucFan Says:

I just got a twitter update that he officially left the Raiders without signing the 1 year deal for Tampa.
