Chiefs Did Not Block Bucs

January 9th, 2014

The Chiefs did not block the Bucs from interviewing their director of player personnel, Chris Ballard.

It was believed the Bucs, in their quest to fill the void left when former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik was jettisoned, were blocked by the Chiefs from interviewing front office type Chris Ballard.

Not true, says Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, who just got an update from a reliable NFL contact.

The Chiefs, in fact, were not standing in the way of the Bucs going after Ballard.

@RCummingsTBO: Update on the Bucs GM Search. Chris Ballard is out but he was not blocked from interviewing. He chose to stay in KC for family reasons.

Joe can understand not wanting to uproot a family for the second time in a less than a year. The current Chiefs’ director of player personnel had just landed in Kansas City last May from the Bears.

Joe is typing this from the frigid Midwest with snow and terrible temperatures and ice and snowplows a daily occurrence of late. Joe’s acquaintances are mocking him for coming here from Florida in the middle of January. Joe cannot disagree.

So an offer to escape real winters for the sunny Suncoast had to give Ballard pause. Just a hunch, but there must have been at least one of Ballard’s family members looking outside at the ice and snow and daydreaming of blue waters and white sand.

It’s about personnel control. He chose to say it was about family, but I doubt he would’ve passed if this were an actual GM position with full authority. This is all a result of how badly the Glazers have managed the organization since the firing of Tony Dungy.

So it goes. after seeing the other Smith hires so far I trust we’ll land the right guy

  3. Orca Says:

^^ If it were Smith doing the hiring, I might not be concerned, but the Glazers are morons.

I’m sure your aquantences already told you, but you’re lucky because it was -15 for a high round here earlier in the week. My dog’s poop was freezing as it was coming out… OK that was a lie

Raise your hand if you believe every NFL press release and coach interview.

  9. PRBucFan Says:

Raise your hand if you question every decision someone makes and interject your own reasons as fact

  10. You Go Joe Says:

Raise your hand if …. well come one of course we have our opinions. What else can we say are facts when we have none but speculations. Can’t say there are facts when we have none, it just leaves room to believe there are other facts.

Doesn’t matter though, by the time we get our GM we’ll forget about this and the other list of candidates until we regret the choice. That’s when we say, “should have gotten X rather than Y.”

Hmm don’t like this setup at all, I understand he wants a partner but the organzization desperatley in need of a good talent evaluator. Finding the good athletes that are not on everyone radar are the difference and this guy seemed to have a good eye for finding them. Having a yes man is not in my opinion a good idea in this position. I would think the Glazers would want a little separation here plus having an excellent cap person.

G.M. who cares, get some one that knows the salary cap.

You know…we ride the media for making assumptions like that, but here we see you reading minds. That is amazing!

Joe, I know memories always fade after time and it’s been over 35 years since I left the Tampa area and moved west and yes, I was a young man then. And I certainly remember the white sandy beaches in St. Pete and the Fort Disoto area, but I’m having a really hard time remembering the “blue” waters, I kind of remember more of a grey murky color. Is that just my faded memories turning grey?
