Glennon Support AboundsJanuary 3rd, 2014
Last night it was Earnest Graham detailing his confidence in Mike Glennon.
NFL Network gurus concurred yesterday (video here).
Greg Cosell, the noted NFL Films guru, is surprised that people don’t like Glennon.
Joe Theismann is jacked up about the kid.
“He played a lot of football, showed a lot of promise,” Theismann said of Glennon this morning on WDAE-AM 620. “He threw 19 touchdowns against nine interceptions. That tells me he protects the football. You know he was without Mike Williams. [Glennon] is, I believe, is going to be your quarterback, and should be.”
Theismann went on to rave about Glennon’s footwork and ability to throw from the pocket.
Yesterday, Cosell said on WHFS-FM, 98.7 FM that Glennon is “very much ceiling-wise like Matt Ryan.” That’s what I think he can become under different circumstances with good coaching, Cosell said.
“I’m confused about all of this with Mike Glennon. There were three starting rookie quarterbacks this year, Glennon, E.J. Manuel and Geno Smith. There was not a comparison. Mike Glennon was far and away the best of those three,” Cosell said. “It’s not even a discussion. See, the problem for a lot of people with Mike Glennon is he’s not flashy.”
Joe admires what Glennon accomplished this season in a tough situation, but that doesn’t make him a special player — one who can win you games, which is what quarterbacks need to do in the modern NFL to take home Lombardi trophies.
Joe just doesn’t see it with Glennon. Not bringing in real competition for Glennon would be a dangerous call.
