Former Vikings coach in talks to join Lovie Smith and the Bucs.

Former Vikings coach and Rip Van Freeman victim Leslie Frazier’s name is being bounced around NFL circles tonight as a potential new Bucs defensive coordinator. This coming from USA Today scribe and former Vikings beat writer Tom Pelissero.

@TomPelissero: Nothing done for Leslie Frazier to join Lovie Smith as DC with Bucs, I’m told, but sounds like it’s on the table.

Now what is interesting here is, to continue the Raheem Morris theme, Frazier, when he became Vikings coach, wanted to hire Morris as his defensive coordinator and Morris turned down his old friend for the opportunity to hitch his wagon to Mike Shanahan’s in Washington.

Joe doesn’t know if a Frasier hire could rule out Rod Marinelli coming back to the Bucs, but Marinelli is under contract with the Cowboys. Frazier was just jettisoned from the Vikings himself. Like former Bucs commander Greg Schiano, he was laced with the stench of leaky Rip Van Freeman’s antics and alarm clock phobia.

I’m getting Marinelli too. If that’s true, then Joe Barry will do LBs. Why stop there. Let’s get Rich Bisaccia back in here for STs.

  8. Mach Says:

Hearing that Marinneli and not frazer will be the bucs DC, cowboys apparently looking at letting him out of his contract.. But then Again they could hire him and fire kiffin lol. But either way looks like Marinelli is lovies first choice for DC

    Hey Joe!!!

Here’s a possible topic for an article.

Imagine the improved press with these hires…..Dungy, Barber, Lynch, Sapp, Gruden, and with Tedford….Dilfer.

We may even start getting good press from Shaun King.

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

I can’t wait to see the rest of the coaches they hire. I feel like we got our team back. I sure hope we get Mckay to GM.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

I think it has been in place since the St. Louis loss….but on the drawing board much earlier than that.

  16. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @1987
Agreed. Looks like Glazers have been working on things for a while

  17. JamesrunningWilder Says:

The Real Question is… Who is the New GM?
    Derrick Brooks…..? Naaaaahhh, couldn’t be.
…But that is a Huge Question that needs Answering.

    Hopefully Not Jerry Angelo.

  18. Vincente Says:

Sounds like Schiano was fired about two months ago lol thus coaching staff is going to be strong! Man I’m ready! Give us another Monday night game so I can start planning my trip to tampa!!!!

  19. Eric Says:

    Awesome if Marinelli is coming.

  20. Chris Says:

ESPN also reporting that Frazier will join the Bucs somehow.

  21. deminion Says:

    So happy

  22. Eric Says:

    Great day in Tampa Bay!

I’m gonna get some tickets for this.

  23. Macabee Says:

    Mr Patrick,

This had to be in the works for a while. Lesson for everyone taking Billionaires for granted. Saw this with my own eyes. In the Super Dome for the last game, the Glazers were standing on the sideline laughing and talking with Mark Dominik with Schiano standing a foot or two away.

Schiano and Dominik had no idea this was going on! Lesson: check your shoe tops for blood when you’re dealing with powerful men!

  24. BuccoBill Says:

Why not Kiffen? Or maybe Sapp or Brooks. Ronde is smart would make a fine coach or GM. Hell, Let’s just hire the whole damn superbowl team to come in and show these kids how to do it. (Sarcasm intended)

  25. White Tiger Says:

No, this guy really is good at decking QB’s – typically though, there his own.

That crap he put Freeman through after a couple of days on the team, Leslie thought it would be a good idea to start Freeman, on Monday Night football, and threw FIFTY THREE times, with a new QB – which was more often than any other game, and any other QB he had.

I say bump the guy who’ll sabotage his own team when they do something he doesn’t like – especially when that guy was the LEADER of that team.

    Pass. Can’t stand him. He’s a fake.

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

If they hire Frazier that will be the kink in the armor. He is too wishy-washy and indecisive.

I’d the Rod rumors pan out that would be awesome.

  27. SSG Mike Says:

@Tampabaybucsfan, Thanks for the sarcasm, got a great laugh out of that. Especially the Shaun King quote. Your right though too much “Hype” going on right now. I like what is being mentioned, even thought the Marinelli thing was done. So I will just wait until the dust settles and evaluate from there. Good thing is Schiano is gone and it will be a new day in Tampa Bay. Go Bucs!

  28. Brandon Says:

Morris isn’t coming back for the same reason Lovie never interviewed for Detroit. Everybody knew last year, that whereever Lovie went, Marinelli would be his DC… and there’s no way they’d want Marinelli back in Detroit.

Frazier was initially a secondary coach so if he joins I assume that would be where he would focus.

This is great, we’re getting the band back together!

  29. Mr. T Says:

Not sold on all of this yet. We’ll see what we do in acquiring players in FA and in the draft then where we are record wise at at the end of next season. Results will determine how good all of this is not hype.
