Hate Shot At Bucs Fans By Jason La CanforaDecember 13th, 2013
Joe gets why national and local media get all nasty and sour over the attendance figures of the Buccaneers and Rays. It’s deserved at times, but mostly it’s a function of media types failing to do research, and attendance moaning is an easy way to fill space and air time.
But sometimes the darts cross a line, and Joe must call them out. Today is one of those days.
In a preview/prediction of the Bucs-49ers game, CBS Sports senior NFL scribe, Jason La Canfora, formerly of NFL Network, either thinks Bucs fans who attend games are thoroughly lame, or La Canfora doesn’t know the Bucs-Niners game is sold out.
It’s inexcusable hate at the Tampa Bay faithful.
Buccaneers (+5½) vs. 49ers: This looks like a trap game for the 49ers. They come off the game of the year in beating rival Seattle, face a tricky opponent with nothing to lose in an atmosphere that could rival a preseason game, and travel all the way across the county. Again. The 49ers might have trouble with the Bucs’ defensive line, especially with some of San Francisco’s injury woes up front. I think this is a close game, and the Bucs actually win this thing outright.
What’s ironic about this is that La Canfora predicts a Bucs victory against the mighty 49ers. He’s not knocking the team. Does La Canfora really think if the Bucs are, in fact, winning — or in a position to win — that the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway wouldn’t be rocking?
The fact is it would be going nuts and screams of ”Save Schiano” would be heard across Tampa.
Regardless, this was a needless, laughable shot at Bucs fans. Joe knows the Bucs home-game crowds aren’t exactly the NFL’s nastiest and loudest, but they’re very solid when it’s a full house.
In week 15 of the season, when the 2013 Bucs have had no blackouts and multiple sellouts, La Canfora took a national shot at Bucs fans. Weak.
