Will The Bucs’ Defense Get Bullied?

December 12th, 2013

Greg Schiano says he wants his men to match the Niners’ bully “shtick.”

Forget about Sunday’s Bucs-Niners final score for a minute, Joe wants to see how the New Schiano Order defense stacks up against the 49ers’ offense.

Coaches at One Buc Palace have been painting the Niners as an epic powerhouse team in all phases. Joe hasn’t seen such gushing from Greg Schiano and friends.

But the fact is the 49ers are a run first team that’s had its share of off days offensively this season.

They’ve got strong talent, but they’re no juggernaut. In their 13 games, Frank Gore has led all rushers (both teams) six times. Colin Kaepernick has only one 300 yard passing day all season.

Are they really offensive bullies? Greg Schiano thinks so.

“They’re a run-first team. So all those things. You know, how do you cover big chunks of yardage? Throwing the ball, right? They will grind it out,” Schiano said. “They enjoy bullying you up and down the field. That’s part of their shtick. So what we gotta match it hit for hit, play for play, kind of what we like to see ourselves as. So I think it will be an exciting game.”

As Joe wrote last week before the Bucs defense clubbed the Bills with seven sacks and four interceptions, the Bucs have the rare benefit of their entire opening-day defense healthy — and arguably more healthy than they were on opening day.

The Bucs are at home. Joe demands to see a ferocious performance from the Bucs defense.

Joe also wants to see a win, but Joe expects nothing from the Bucs offense. Frankly, Joe would almost feel good about the Bucs holding the Niners to 13 points or less, regardless of the final score.

These final three games will show whether the New Schiano Order defense has evolved, grown, and is ready to take the next step in 2014.

I’d be shocked if we hold them under 20. We have struggled with mobile QB’s, and Clapperschtick is all kind of mobile. I don’t know how we are going to manufacture points against them unless we can run the ball effectively on them, which isn’t very likely. This isn’t a good match up for us at all in my opinion. I still have nightmares about when I took the red eye and went strait to Candlestick, just to watch us get beat 48-3.

They have to travel….they just won a big game…I think they will be surprised by how well our defense plays….I am very concerned with our offense, especially in the second half. I can’t see how we will miraculously turn things around Sunday.
    I see the game ending SF 24-13……but, obviously I hope I’m wrong….

I’m calling a win with both sides of the ball finally putting together a complete game.

    Color me optimistic lol

    😉

If we can’t beat, or at least be competitive with the 9ers, then we’re not a playoff-ready team.

  5. Rob Says:

If the Bucs win, it’ll be on the back of the defense. I would be surprised if the Bucs score 17.

  6. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Obviously we’re not playoff-ready, considering our record, but you know what I mean. Alot of people were expecting playoffs this year, and will be expecting them next year.

  7. Bucsfanfromtexas Says:

We can get this win, as long as we don’t have 5+ penalties or turn the ball over more than once

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

We get five penalties in one quarter.

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I would think just out of pure luck we could score some TD’s in the second half. This is an amazingly bad streak of crap offense in the third quarter. If we are going to turn it around, Sunday would be a nice day to start.

  10. Hawk Says:

The Bucs will score 38 points. 17 of them in the second half.
This message will self destruct in three days (unless I’m right, of course).
    ;^)

If we win it will be because of the defense. Offensively we just don’t match up at all. We have one legitimate receiver and a TE along with a rookie QB and a 4th string RB. I’m amazed at what we have been able to do offensively with what we have. This game will be won by turnovers if we win. I see a close game but it’s hard for me to see us pulling out a win. I just want to see us go toe to toe with these guys and make them claw and scratch for every yard they get.
