Glennon Now Your Best Bucs Rookie QB

December 1st, 2013

Joe believes there are still some diehard Freemanites out there. They will have you believe that leaky Rip Van Freeman was as innocent and pure as a fresh snowfall, that evil Bucs commander Greg Schiano had Freeman shackled and wouldn’t let his franchise quarterback be himself.

To listen to the Freemanites, Schiano ruined the best quarterback the Bucs have ever had.

Well, the Freemanites can no long offer that complaint. Because Freeman is no longer the best quarterback the Bucs have ever had. Why, the numbers say so, in case you are wondering.

After today’s less-than-stellar performance, Glennon now has more yards thrown by a Bucs rookie quarterback than anyone in franchise history. With four games to go, Glennon currently has 1,962 yards. That beats Freeman’s 1,855; he’s who is in second place. The immortal Bruce Gradkowski is in third place with 1,661 yards thrown as a rookie.

Would have liked to see glennon throw 40 times today.

Thought we ran the ball way too much. Too many 3rd and long.

  2. WalkdaPlank Says:

Considering all 3 of the QB’s didn’t start from the beginning, the stats don’t tell much. Let’s see Glennon throw for 4,000 yards next season. With as horrible as leaky Rip Van Freeman was, he at least compiled 4,000 yards. Glennon keeps the INT’s at a low, which is great. But a reason he does that is because he throws too many dinky short passes, screens, and checkdowns. I’m excited to see what he can do as a second year starter from day 1, and of course, what he can do with 4 games left to his rookie season. 49ers have a good defense too, more specifically run defense. If the O-line can’t start playing well again like they were before, expect Bobby Rainey to have another bad day. At least he was better today than he was against Detroit.

  3. rdbucfan Says:

Glennon did it with the same number of starts as Freeboy the current Captain of the Vikings inactive list.

  4. John Says:

Mike is going to be good -he battled
Today but are coaches got out schemed

  5. John23 Says:

Yeah too much runnin I think we needed to pass first to open up the run. Also I miss Doug Martin.

  6. Harry Says:

I just don’t get what you ppl see in Glennon. Granted, Bucs coaches put him in a lot of 3rd and long, but he had his opportunities to shine, and he RARELY did anything that was a “wow”:.

The Bucs MUST draft a QB next year, I like Glennon, For a 3rd Rd pick, he has been fabulous – he is going to make a great backup. But Glennon is NOT a FRANCHISE QB

  7. bucfan999 Says:

Come on Joe…..stop making believe that you wasn’t a card carrying member of the Freemanites. For months you put down all of us who was saying that Freeman was not a Franchise QB. You continually said here on “Joe BucFan” that Freeman was a good QB and that the (as you said) “Mussolini” was leaking information about him and that he rigged the vote to take away his captaincy. Know that Glennon looks good and Freeman can’t get off the inactive list in Minnesota you are all of the sudden a card carrying member of the Glennon Mob???? Come on Joe…..Stop playing

What are you talking about? Nobody was making believe of anything. Joe’s got full archives available on this page. –Joe

  8. Biggun Says:

Draft an “O” Line… A QB can’t do squat running for his life… At the game today seemed like they knew what we going to do every play… Defense held up good… At least.

  9. NY Buc Says:

Wonder how many people would be sold on Glennon being our franchise QB if he’d been drafted in the 1st round? Dude has put up impressive numbers for a rookie regardless and will get better because he’s a smart guy, hard worker, and has some of the physical tools (except the running/mobility)

  10. Adam L. Says:

I would like to remind Joe that Freeman gives the Bucs the best chance to win.

  11. oldfart44 Says:

    @NY Buc

What’s the fact that he was drafted in the 3rd round to to do with him being the franchise QB?

He has not proven, nor will this supposed HC let him prove that he can bring the team from behind. Lots of sacks today for holding the ball so long. Maybe he can’t count to 2-3?? 🙂

    Merry Xmas to all.

  12. PRBucFan Says:

    Oooh 4000 yards!

  13. trubucfan22 Says:

Thats not saying much. Ill take vincent jackson over micheal clayton to throw to anyday.

  14. gv1221 Says:

Glennon is okay. But that is it. He is decent but nowhere near what we need at QB. We must draft one.

  15. buc4lyfe Says:

Who cares…..this fanbase is pathetic. Coming into the game 3-0 media forgot about the other 8 losses, so much that you forget Schiano can’t coach, the team is good enough, so is the quarterback…stop comparing this team to Freeman and the morris era, we had the youngest team in the nfl and the least talented, atleast the probowlers we had were performing like it. Schiano has less of an excuse because he has veterans that know how to win. Retards talking like a 3 or 4 game win streaks could save a guy with a losing record. Veterans don’t quit cuz they have families and lives set, that’s a stupid reason to say Schiano should come back. This isn’t about Freeman or glennon it’s about this sorry excuse for a coaching staff. Forget his overall record. He should be fired for his record in divisional play

  16. BucsFan68 Says:

    @buc4lyfe,

I agree with your comment about the divisional record. The Bucs are 4-7 in divisional play during Schiano’s tenure. If he comes back, that will have to improve.

  17. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I’m a “Freemanites” I guess, but I think you misread (me at least).

I just like Freeman and believe he can still become a good QB. By the time he was cut I felt it was the right move, but that doesn’t mean he is horrible…or ruined.

  18. madmacskillz Says:

Throwing for the most yards doesn’t make him the best rookie quarterback in any sane rational assessment – quarterback rating is what you’d want to look at. Does he have the best QB rating as a rookie? Could be, I don’t know.

  19. Suq Maddiq Says:

While we should’ve taken Nick Foles when he was still available in the draft ages ago (especially after the Raheem Morris/Josh Freeman collapse of 2012, how did we not at least take a third round qb just in case?), if Glennon follows a path anything close to Foles we are in for pleasant surprises next season. Yeah he got beat and badly, but this season was all but over after we signed Lindell. Kickers are important and I desperately miss Barth. Even Dimke would’ve performed better. But I digress…
Better to have a crappy day like this in what is essentially a pre-season game to work out the kinks. Nobody is a good qb with a bad o-line
