Tom Crabtree Out For Season

November 25th, 2013

The Bucs thought they had a steal when in the offseason, Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik purloined tight end Tom Crabtree from the Packers via free agency.

But Crabtree has had virtually no impact, largely because he has been beset by injuries. And that will label the 2013 season for Crabtree. He is now out for the year, per Greg Bedard of theMMQB.com.

@GregABedard: Good thing for the Bucs that TE Tim Wright had a career game. Tom Crabtree is out for season with torn bicep. Would be 3rd TE on IR

Right now that steal is looking like Dominik got fooled, but there is no way, no how Joe can blame a general manager — doesn’t matter who — for injuries.

Just like Brian Price, who Bucs fans love to pile on. If you can predict injuries, then Joe wants you to look into that crystal ball of yours and give Joe the winning Lotto numbers for Wednesday. Joe promises to split the winnings. Really.

Matt Veldman…..time for you to step up and be notices…..this is what practice squads are for….your turn buddy…good luck!!!

  2. Jon Says:

That makes three RB’s, three WR’s, and Mike Williams all out for the year. Players are stepping up, coaches are coaching and our Buccaneers are winning.

  3. BirdDoggers Says:

There wasn’t much of a plan at the TE position going into the season. Relying on two TE’s that never produced much, at least not s pass catchers, Crabtree and Stocker just didn’t pan out. At least Wright is stepping up.

  4. John Says:

Prices injury was not caught coming out- his atitiude sucked enough not to draft him- word was when mark and him fought baron gave him all he wanted like anyone from ua would

  5. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Maybe the crystal ball does not predict injury, But by the same token, Maybe we should not Call the Boy Gm a genius or that he stole another team when a player has not played 1 play in a Bucs uniform.

Or maybe what i have said all along, If the pop-star is plauged and “unlucky” with all these injuries, Maybe the Glazers should go out and find a real GM that is “lucky”.

I’d like to mention that Steven Stamkos is walking around with no boot and no cast after his GRUESOME leg injury 2 weeks ago where he was taken off the ice on a STRETCHER. Photos are on TBTIMES.

    Meanwhile, Carl Nicks’ toe hurts.

  7. Splengo Says:

Can’t miss what we never had! Good luck and probably goodbye Tom. Next man up. Do we have a next man? Tuesday is tryout day. Go Bucs!

  8. Chef Paul Says:

Um. Just because a person can see injuries in the future does not mean that person can see winning lotto numbers. They cover that on the first day of class for fortune tellers. I thought everyone knew that.

Good beard, looked the part, but was not #OAF.

    LOL!

  11. d-money Says:

You mean they didn’t catch Brian Price’s injury that the most doctors at the time said it’s so rare that they have never even seen on a pro athlete?

Yeah you’re right that is probably the GM’s fault.

Also.. Brian Price came back from that injury and actually played pretty well consiering what he was recovering from…he didn’t really fall apart until his sister was killed. He never really recovered from that…again probably the GM’s fault though.

  12. Jon Says:

    @ The Buc Realist.

“Lucky” for us, the GM traded to get Lavonte David. It’s fascinating to me to see your obsession with our GM. Be even better when you saw him and asked for his autograph. Whatever it is, hope you get over it. Come enjoy the team!

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Lets see….Sister deaths….toe injuries, MRSA, Shooting at Mom’s boyfriends, Mistaking Ritalin for Adderall…..all should have been forseen by our GM…..I think that paygrade belongs at the very, very top….the One who is the only One who knows all….

Joe, very impressed by your quantity and quality of output today. I’ve taken the week off to read all your posts and your working OT. Thanks for the entertainment.

The TE position seems to be used very little by the Sully scheme. What a waste as other teams use the TE quite effectively and it would also help a rookie QB to have that big check down to dump a pass to in a time of need,

BTW, has anyone else been impressed with Eric Page and the new return game the Bucs have now? Man he is much more exciting to watch than Roscoe Parrish. I wish there was a FG kicker out there the GM could hire.

  15. Paul Says:

Too bad that Mr Bedard doesn’t realize that we use TE’s for more than running routes…Maybe he wouldn’t call it a good thing.

  16. Tristan Says:

It’ a shame that year after year there are only 27-28 NFL-caliber placekickers in the whole world.

  17. Mr. T Says:

For a team that doesn’t use the TE offensively we sure did yesterday and without his production we most likely wouldn’t have won. However Wright at 6’4″ 220 is more like a big bodied WR than a TE which is the way we should use him. Like I’ve said in the past when we didn’t retain D. Clark, we need to draft a good pass catching TE, I still think that way. Crabtree in the games he has played produced nothing to speak of on offense so the experiment with him hasn’t worked out.

  18. Natenazty Says:

Crabtree was about as fast as a tree and wasn’t productive the short time he was healthy. The TE reach in this regard didn’t work. Having a WR playing TE is working for now, but obviously Mark will have to learn from last season and actually address this position with more of a priority. Live and learn Dom.

  19. sho-nuff Says:

weak freaking sauce…. i hope crabtree, nicks and stocker are out of football next season…look just face it fellas…you just cant hang….no worries just collect your free money and go…

  20. sho-nuff Says:

    Thank you!

  23. Jason Says:

I liked the pickup of Crabtree too. Obviously it didn’t work out though the guy couldn’t stay healthy. But at least wright has stepped up huge! A good te is a rookie qb best friend.

    @sho-nuff

I can do whatever I want.

Teddy Roosevelt gave a speech with a BULLET in his lung.

Ronnie Lott lost a FINGER and went back in the game.’

Steven Stamkos breaks his leg perpendicular across a steel pipe and is walking with plates & screws in his tibia 2 weeks later.

Carl Nicks… my toe hurts. See you in 2 years.

  25. pick6 Says:

even at full strength the TE position was inviting trouble. dominick has done alot of good things over the years but he still has a tendency to gift starting jobs to tremendously unproven players. it’s a bad habit that goes back to our “weakside linebacker” jermaine phillips and the legendary kyle moore, and this season reared its head at the TE and DE position. i can sort of understand in a development year like last year where you want your young guys to play and gain experience, but in a year where you are clearly going for the postseason with your other roster moves, i remain baffled at the tendency to ignore highly affordable vets who have proven they can produce when called upon.
