“Pre-Dawn” Glennon Passes Leadership Scrutiny

November 20th, 2013

Greg Schiano loves him some Mike Glennon.

The leader of the New Schiano Order is glowing about his guy.

During an interview with Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez on SiriusXM NFL Radio before the win against the Falcons, Schiano explained how Glennon is the total package.

“I’ll tell you, Gil. I really like Mike Glennon. I think he’s got a real bright future. He’s got all the things you look for. No. 1, he loves the game and loves to work at the game. And then he’s a pre-dawn guy at the facility and he’s here well after dinnertime. I mean he studies it. He works at it. He takes care of his body,” Schiano said. “One of the knocks on him coming out is, you know, he wasn’t a great leader. Well, that’s the furthest thing from the truth. He takes control, has taken control of our huddle. I really think he can be a tremendous football player. He’s very, very coachable, reads plays out the way that you ask him to. You know, when you do that, it gives you a chance to distribute the ball to all the different receivers. It keeps everybody in the game. And he’s just got a really good temperament to be a quarterback.”

Interesting was Schiano referencing a knock on Glennon not being a great leader when he was drafted. Perhaps that’s why Schiano didn’t oust Josh Freeman sooner?

Regardless, Schiano is all-in now. It’s all about No. 8. If Glennon continues to thrive, Joe can’t imagine Team Glazer breaking up this marriage.

Schiano wanted Freeman ousted at the end of last year. Also Gil told Glennon to take acting class to better project his presence in the huddle, at the scouting combine. ( that was on NfL radio during our by-week).

    NFL radio is great!!!

I’ve got no problem with Glennon. I’d buy my son a #8 jersey if I knew that he’d be here for a little while. I think that them opening up the deep pass to him as an option and the chemistry he’s started developing with receivers will quiet the critics. He’s a rookie who has really only had about 5 weeks of practice with the starters. I’ve got no problem with his production at this point. Hopefully it only gets better from here. I’ll take largely mistake free football and an efficient offense every time.

    Mike glennon mob

  4. Touchdown Gus Says:

Here is a thought: Glennon is on pace to have a better rookie year than Flacco and Matt Ryan. His rookie year is schooling Eli Manning with 2 less games

  5. Chief Says:

He’s just not very accurate with ball placement in the deep ball game. Thank God for Vincent Jackson…

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Doing well with virtually no TE and Underwood as #2 reciever and really no #3….

  7. mike Says:

I love mike glennon, but no one mentions how bad he is on the deep ball. Again, I love him and he is solid, but it just seems he is brad johnson at best and in today’s nfl you will have a hard time winning in the playoffs with that.

As a founding member of The Mob
I must say it’s nice that we’ve moved from
being looked at as potential domestic fan terrorists
to borderline geniuses with incredible insight.

    Yes.
What WOULD have happened if Glennon had started
    from day 1? What indeed.

  9. BB Says:

I expect mostly wins the rest of the way and don’t Care about draft positioning just take the best left tackle or defensive end available at our spot whether fourth or tenth etc and they will help us. The taking plays off and lack of a work ethic concerns me about clowny I dreamed of bucs getting him for two years but maybe best that they don’t we want players here that come to work does anyone question effort of brooks or David of course not

I have to hand it to Glennon. I was a big Freemanite, and I wasn’t sold on Glennon at all, but he came into a tough situation and has played pretty damn well. He definitely needs a lot of work in some areas, but what rookie doesn’t? He has been able to put together some good games with a very thin WR corps, and he has to be commended for that.

Now, he needs to continue to play at this level and win some more games to warrant us skipping a qb in next year’s draft. Going up against Suh this week is the first test.

  11. Kodaslc Says:

I am a huge fan of Doug Martin but if T.Richardson got traded for a 1st pick. If somebody needed a RB bad enough offered us a 1st rd pick for Doug Martin I would seriously listen to the offer!!! with two first rd picks , we can go after two really good player two players within the top 20. Rbs are really a dime a dozen look at Mike James he was starting to remind me of TD. Terrell Davis another 6 rd pick tht would’ve been a first ballot hall famer if not for the knee problems. That one cut and go. Or even a trade like the Redskins and Broncos did C.Bailey 4 Portis. RB shelf life is only a few years if we can land a trade like tht you do it. We are one top flight CB from being dangerous on Def…..

  12. Que589 Says:

Gotta continue to improve and win atleast 4 out of the next 6 games. Must be competitive in all games, and the kid will be good. No need to draft a QB until 5th rd.

  13. al121976 Says:

    Kodaslc, that is idiotic thinking.

  14. MikeJ Says:

Tampabaybucfan , same thing I emailed a Bleacher Report writer a few hours ago–& let’s not forget, Underwood was not considered good enough to be signed by 31 NFL clubs, many in dire need of WR’s.
    BTW–Tom Brady’s rookie stats–1of three, six yards.Aaron Rodgers,9-16-65.

  15. Kodaslc Says:

@al121976 is it really ?? Do some shed some light on to what was so idiotic ???? everything I stated has been done in the NFL!!!!

  16. Bucfan#37 Says:

Glennon is looking good. This rookie has returned a degree of respectability to the Bucs future. He may not pan out over the long haul, yet he has made watching the team less painful.
