Gerald McCoy Not Interested In Past

November 20th, 2013

GMC 1120

There has been a lot of hot air hollered over sports radio, typed on the Internet, voiced on TV and bled with ink on 19th Century news delivery services (newspapers) about the Bucs and their pass rush (or lack thereof).

Akeem Spence told Joe last week that the defensive line as a unit had lobbied coaches all year to, as Hall of Famer Warren Sapp would say, let the dogs hunt.

Recently, it was learned Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy put his foot down and all but told his coaches enough was enough with pretty stunting and that coaches finally listening to players is why the Bucs have had a virtual explosion of sacks the past two games (both wins, incidentally).

GMC attempted to dodge this issue earlier in the week, documents the Custodian of Canton, eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune.

“You knew it was there, we had the ability to do it, there was just something missing,’’ McCoy said. “I never could really point that out, I just knew we weren’t finishing games. We had a lot of opportunities. I guess you can say, ‘Where was that earlier in the year?’ But you don’t want to look in the past, look to the future.’’

Tampa Bay has 22 sacks for the season as they head to Detroit to face Matt Stafford, who has been dropped only 12 times in 419 pass attempts.

“Yeah, we’ve got to work as a unit,’’ said McCoy. “I didn’t want to change anything I was doing, just keep trusting that the guys next to me are going to do their job and I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing. And it all came together [Sunday].’’

There’s no need to change what you are doing! The Bucs are finally — finally! — getting results. Why in the world would you change that and go back to what wasn’t working for lo’ these many months?

Just how desperate if not rightly paranoid for their jobs were Bucs defensive coaches to finally give in to the hell-raising of Sapp, Booger McFarland, Steve White, the Bucs players, hell, Pope Francis himself, to finally cave?

Meanwhile, GMC’s loud critics and haters have been shamed into seclusion and silenced. Why? Be men and speak for yourselves!

Lack of patience and lack of stats, Joe. This was def not a guy Bucs fans got immediate satisfaction (sacks) from, especially since he was a top 5 pick 3 1/2 years ago.

  2. Macabee Says:

Right about now George Santayana is rolling over in his grave!

  3. flmike, is back... Says:

McCoy is turning into what we all believed he would be when drafted, a multifaceted pass rusher who can dominate an offensive line with multiple tactics, unlike someone who was drafted just ahead of him who is literally a one trick lion…

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It would be nice if we had a couple of DEs that performed like McCoy….and althoug Spence is doing well for a 4th round pick rookie…we need to be stronger there also….

  5. bucrightoff Says:

GMC is the only pass rusher worth a damn on that line. I love Lavonte but he should not be our second best pass rusher. DLine has got to be the focus this offseason.

  6. The_Buc_Realist Says:

When you are getting sacks and making goofy comments, fans will love it. If you are injured more than playing and making goofy comments, it will rub fans the wrong way.

  7. Posey99 Says:

Still think its silly to say what the coaches were doing up front this year wasnt working… 13 sacks in the first 4 games. Just because they werent all coming from the star players theres a problem? Yeah, we werent winning, but to say it wasnt effective is rediculous. We are a top ranked run stuffing team, as we have been all year. Guess thats not as sexy.

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

I say again, the Bucs beat 2 really crappy teams. All stats improve when you are playing inferior opponents, or at least they should. I think too many fans and media types are making way too much out of these last 2 games. They have the Lions and Panthers next and if they beat them, I will change my tune, but I fear this will be a heavy dose of reality for Little Hitler and his inflated ego.

  9. McBuc Says:

Bigmac, you could argue that Tampa was not superior to eithe teams, since you are what your record says you are…oh, and Atlanta beat tampa once before this season. They are also a division rival, so they always come to play. I guess I am not used to you pooping on the parade. I agree that they have their hands full the next couple weeks, and I am not a Shiano fan atll, but let’s enjoy the sweet taste of visctory and hope it comes again on Sunday.

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

It took a while after the injuries, but I think GMC is starting to pay dividends. Hopefully we can get some better DE play to bolster this line.
As to the “lobbying”, look, football is not a complicated sport. You could argue that the overuse of stunts was too “cutesie”, overdone for the sake of overdoing them and NOT NEEDED. Unleash the hounds, let ‘em hunt. Simple enough?
    Go Bucs, declaw the Lions!

  11. Nick H Says:

Oh please Joe, GMC is a slug who absolutely LOVES talking about himself, someone so high and mighty on his own fumes without any real bite. Thinks he’s the best thing since sliced bread. Yes a 3 sack game is nice, but 15 sacks in 3.5 years? Please. Don’t care about “advanced” metrics, he’s washed out 3/4 of every single game he’s ever played in, double and triple teams be damned. I will continue disliking the self-loving under performer until we see a consistent, real threat in the interior D line who is good for more than a 3 play stretch per game

    Haters are gonna hate

    Regardless lol.

There will always be a reason why what we are doing isn’t good enough even when we do win.

  13. []_[]Buc Says:

The kid was injured but when he’s been in the game he’s been worth every penny.

Evidenced by his last two healthy seasons.

    Don’t just talk to talk.

You sound like a tool, an ignorant tool.

A slug? He has arguably the fastest get off in the NFL.

    Lol comical really.

  14. Nick H Says:

So “don’t just talk to talk”, sort of like that comment? Insults instead of counter arguments are always hilarious.

What is he “worth” in his healthy seasons? Come on now, stats are stats, nobody tracks “double teams” because nobody cares. Bring some #’s. They’re out there and GMC is hardly a “beast” until he shows up, with CONSISTENCY.

Being the best d-linemen on a team with a terrible d-line has inflated his ego and his supposed worth. Nobody needs to double and triple team gary gibson or adrian clayborn, so all the attention he draws is circumstantial.

  15. Nick H Says:

Tackles and sacks aren’t everything, blah blah blah. Drawing 2 and 3 blockers is just because there’s nobody else to block, hardly praise to heap on someone making SO much money.

  16. []_[]Buc Says:

Again talking garbage just to talk

    Ignorance is bliss

I’m sure that your opinion of McCoy which is in the minority and which is extremely different than all the people whose opinions actually matter in the NFL is the correct one…

LoL That’s sarcasm if you didn’t pick up on it.

    BLAH BLAH BLAH

keep the noise coming, cause that’s all it is

  17. Nick H Says:

What? Lol well it was nice trying to have a debate with you, you clearly missed the point. Saying “the majority says so” doesn’t make my argument invalid. Counter points or facts might, but saying “garbage” and “ignorance is bliss” is about as ignorant as it can get.

I appreciate your wonderful input and your vast, incredible football knowledge.

  18. Nick H Says:

Anyways Joe, his critics won’t be silenced and they certainly aren’t “shamed” into silence after a 3 sack game against a 2-win team. We’re all still waiting for that $60 million man to live up to his draft position and salary.

  19. []_[]Buc Says:

Genius you have no argument just an incorrect opinion that anyone who matters in the NFL profession would disagree with.

That can be seen anywhere when you see McCoy being spoken about as one of the best DT’s in the game today by largely everyone lol.

The only ones not silenced are the ones that speak only to hear themselves speak.

There was no debate to be had, did you not pick up on that?

Unless of course your insinuating that your correct and the rest of the NFL world is wrong minus maybe a few other people like you.
