“Almost, To Me, A Little Disrespectful”

November 4th, 2013

Joe remains stunned that Mike James’ last touch in regulation came with 7:51 remaining. What?? The Bucs took their best weapon out of the game, rather than make Seattle stop him. Unthinkable!

James returned for a 2nd-and-9 run in overtime before the Bucs fizzled out and the game ended.

It seems Buccaneers Radio Network analyst and former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht also was stunned by James’ lack of use late yesterday. Speaking on WDAE-AM 620 this morning, Becht explained that the Bucs’ offensive decisions did not reward those who were succeeding.

“To me, you know, you got to that point in the game. It was 24 all. Things weren’t going your way. You regroup. You kn0w, you get a fresh start and really you get back to your gameplan where you started the game. We ran the ball very effectively yesterday,” Becht said.

And it was almost, to me, a little disrespectful to the line and what the running back had done in this game to go out and start that overtime with a pass.”

Joe agrees. What must the offensive line been thinking when the Bucs abandoned the run — with the lead — in the fourth quarter? Every head coach Joe has ever heard openly dreams of closing out games on the ground. That’s a popular offensive lineman fantasy, as well. Keep in mind Greg Schiano spoke all last week about how the Bucs must have a renewed commitment to the run.

Enjoy Becht’s full interview below. Plenty of interesting takes.

yeah but I’m sure that strategy worked great at Rutgers

  2. Draft Marty Schottenheimer Says:

Many have said we don’t have a talent or skill problem, but a coaching problem. How many more examples to the Glazers need before pulling the plug on the Schiano experiment.

People argue we should let him tank the season for a draft pick. But think about it, what certainty is there the draft pick will pan out (R. Leaf, J. Russell). We pay for each game, not merely to support a long term plan (that keeps getting longer).

  3. Draft Marty Schottenheimer Says:

Ha Ha Zam. With all those bowl victories. . .

  4. MTM Says:

How was Schiano suppose to lose the game if they kept running the ball. Duh ! Another glaring coaching decision to support this inept coach and his staff.

  5. crazy Says:

Only thing worse than not adjusting the game plan is making the wrong adjustment.

  6. Jo_mama Says:

I have to agree with Joe, James was kicking butt. And then he was gone.

Would love to have seen some play action in the second half.

Do not remember seeing any, especially in the 4th qtr.

  7. White Tiger Says:

The reality that “someone” keeps stepping in and calling all the wrong stuff – illustrates why the Bucs lose games in the 3rd && 4th quarter.

The only “adjustment” that needed to be made in the second half – is to hand the ball to one of two RB’s…

  8. 911bucs Says:

Does anyone know why we went away from the run? Was there any explanation by the coaching staff during interviews?

  9. JMN Says:

This coaching staff continues to perplex me every week!

  10. John23 Says:

Even though we lost it was a great game I really think James came out wright Glennon mark Barron these players stepped up even underwood had a couple good catches. Thought it was going to be a blowout but we made it competitive and further showed the weakness of a top Super Bowl pick.

  11. JMN Says:

And we are only 1-3 games away from players shutting down out of frustration due to questionable coaching decisions.

  12. You Go Joe Says:

perfect comparison are the Rams yesterday, they kept Stacy in all game long and he was giving his all to the Titans D. They never stopped committing to the run and we did. End result is a loss for us. We gave up on a working plan and went through the original plan.

Has Schiano ever heard of plan B? And I don’t mean the pill.

  13. Just A Juggalo Says:

Mike James is the Little General’s red headed stepchild, he’s got LGB syndrome. He will only be allowed to play early in contests but not win games.

Only Doug Martin, Ray Rice, Mike Glennon or a Rutger’s alumni can be the hero.

The hero must reflect favorably on the Little General’s genius.

He can be the stunt man, but when the cameras come in for that close up, switch actors.

Was anyone else creeped out when Greg whispered in Roberson’s ear, “You’ve got me for life!”

  14. Bucsfanman Says:

This is a puzzle that I have been trying to figure out for years. You are enjoying success running the football then, inexplicably, when the game is on the line, you decide to air it out. What is our identity? We weren’t behind(for once!), the O-line was opening holes, and we were getting chunk yards running the football.
This year’s team has been so frustrating to watch. How freaking complicated can it be?!

  15. Bobby Says:

I don’t even necessarily have a problem with the pass but I DO have a problem with Glennon being in the shotgun formation so everyone and their brother knew it was a pass. The second thing was that Glennon locked in on the right side of the field and Jackson was WIDE OPEN on the left side. If Glennon looks left he can’t miss him. Never looked. I guess he figured V-Jax had been covered all day so why look but this time he was 10 yards down the field with no one around him. That one was on Glennon.

  16. Bucfan#37 Says:

Yeah Joe, what the hell were the coaches thinking or not thinking.

  17. Sam Says:

I believe he came out of the game with an ankle in the 4th quarter.
I already deleted the game but I remember the moose saying that it was bad news for the bucs to see him in pain on thesidelines
