also, maybe all this trade negotiation is to just give up (concede) this year’s first round draft pick. a pick this year is more valuable, as of now.

Ok Joe, humor me here. What if we traded our 1st and 2nd picks for 2014, get Revis. awesome, draft a 2nd corner in the draft like Xavier Rhodes or Jonathan Banks. Great! now we’re making some progress. then we resign Revis to his fat new contract and everything’s looking up, we go into the 2013 season with all the anticipation in the world, only to finally be assured Josh Freeman is not our franchise QB. I’m not riding the train to run freeman out of Tampa and I’m certainly not implying he WON’T finally get his act together and prove hes the QB we’ve all seen he CAN be. I’m just saying “what if?” So Free has a terrible season and there is no excuse like this year of a weak secondary that did as much to prevent a Playoff berth as he himself. Now what do we do? There’s no way we get our next “franchise” QB out of the 3rd round of the 2014 draft. and any guy we’re gonna get on the market (no idea who will even be available next year) is still gonna command a lot of money if we’re obviously trying to bring him in to be a starter. and with tons of money already invested in Revis, that’s gonna really hurt our chances of fielding a competitive team. worst case scenario we have to just grit our teeth and bare a mediocre QB leading our team through ’14 season just so we can get to that next franchise hopeful QB in 2015! No way. I just don’t see how we can jeopardize our team’s future with the questions we still have about Freeman. i think if we have to trade for Revis, which I’m still not 100% convinced we do, its gotta be our 1st and mid round pick THIS year. and just get whatever we can still salvage out of this years draft. Dominik has proven his ability to pick quality talent out of the mid-later rounds of the draft

If Bucs do this deal written by Peter King then it follows that after spring drills Freeman will get a contract bigger than Flacco’s:
According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, though, the Buccaneers have upped the ante to include both their first and second-round picks in 2014 and to also pay Revis roughly $15 million per season in an extension. This, despite not knowing if the corner is fully healthy.

You have no clue what the plan actually is that Dom and Schiano have in place. Sure from the outside looking in, it looks bad… but you have no clue what is really going on… therefore “who has the stupid GM” can not be answered by you or anyone else.

The Bucs could certainly use a healthy Revis. But, to me it’s too much risk and resources spent on one player. No one will know for sure if his knee will be be completely healed untill he’s going full speed in game. The knee may ultimately keep him from being the same player. Then there’s the issue of giving up premium draft picks and a huge contract to boot. If the earlier speculation is true – regarding the decision to let Bennett go because of possible concerns over nagging injuries – Why would Dominik be willing to invest this much in a player coming off of a serious knee injury?

The irony is that all the Bucs fans are calling out the Jets GM for being stupid. Ummm…the Jets have a very good corner under contract and can do with him what they like. The BUCS on the other hand chose to get in to trade dialogue and have done nothing about addressing the position outside of the failed trade attempt. So who has the stupid GM in this scenario?

While the Jets were fishing, the Bucs took the bait, got reeled in and then tossed back.

What a wasted opportunity by letting the CB market dry up.

This is getting to a point of being ridiculous. As much as I want to see Revis Island in TB a 1st & 2nd is to steep when you can get him next year and still hold those picks. He’s obviously money motivated so throw the 12-15mill at him when he’s an UFA.

Yeah, let’s all laugh at the ineptness of the Jets front office, because the Bucs is soooooo great! If memory serves me correctly, the Jets have been to the playoffs a lot more recently than the Bucs.
