I agree with a lot of what you have to say, but giving up a 1st round pick is far more than what Revis is worth. He is worth is contract, end of discussion. We’re not talking about a bargain player here. A first round pick is far too much to give up for a player that is just going to ask for fair market value once he gets here. Why don’t people understand this? A player with or about to get a big contact has ZERO trade value. He is worth what his contract pays him, nothing more, nothing less. If the Bucs want to give up another player with a bloated salary, then that would be fair trade value. Not a high round draft pick!!!

Capt. Tim… It’s not about the money, it’s about the salary cap… and there are better ways to spend cap space than 16 million a year on one player who isn’t even your QB. Add into the fact that he’s a me-first guy, and I just don’t think we’d get value out of that.

I hope SF goes after him to minimize the chance we end up with him.

Trade up into the late 1st round like last year… then trade that pick for Revis.

Sign the CB from Philly… you know, the guy who takes lunch breaks in the car.

Sign Laron Landry.

Keep Wright.

And all of a sudden, the Bucs secondary looks GOOOOD.

It’s not the Superstar syndrome. It’s the fact that rookies take a couple years to actually grasp their job. Ronde said he was late in his second year before he become a decent NFL cornerback. It’s a big transition.

Not with Revis. He’s the best there is. Right now. And we can get him for a second round pick.

I want to draft a talented rookie CB. Then throw him in with Revis. Will shorten his learning curve.

Win now, and be prepared to win later

And I never have a problem spending someone else’s money.

revis would have an impact similar to Vincent Jackson’s impact on the offense. takes a huge load off of everyone else and his presence is enough to allow the team to comfortably play a very aggressive scheme.

if he’s healthy. conditional picks based on snaps played and whether we can extend him would be my preference, and i would worry less about the cap hit of a new Revis deal

the cap takes a nice jump upwards in 2015 i think, so basically revis’ pay would be a cap management issue for the next 2 seasons only, and we look well situated with the cap in that window

maybe a 2nd rounder would be nice, and the bucs could make an effort to trade down in the first to recoup the pick

I think simply put Revis is not a “Buccaneer Man” take the age out of it, take the knee out of it. the bottom line is Revis is far from a Buccaneer man. I highly doubt Schiano would bring in a NON Buccaneer man this early in the process. Maybe year 4 or 5 but not year 2 in a culture change. No doubt a healthy Revis is a shutdown corner that being said I like the fact LUVMYBUCS pointed out that the top 10 defense did not have a DB making QB coin. I personally think the best move is get Smith and draft Rhoades and take a third round CB for depth grab a TE or RT in round 2… I am on the fence with honey badger no doubt he would be exciting but I have a feeling the old Florida state moto might apply to the badger he comes to town, Come on vacation and leave on probation…

I’m all for getting CBs, but there’s this superstar mentality. Everybody wants to bring in all these big-name big-money guys. I think we would be improving the team much more by paying for 3 capable younger starting CBs without injury concern than paying for 1 Revis. Adding to the talent base broadly is still needed on this team and I just don’t see Revis being worth what he’s gonna cost in salary or draft pick compensation. BIG NO!

I think it all boils down to a couple things. First of all, the health of Revis is first and foremost. I realize that ACL’s are kind of like sprained ankles nowadays, but it still can be hindering for certain players while not at all for others. Being a fraction of a second slower can make the difference between an INT and a TD. I’ve never torn mine, but from what I hear from friends who have, it’s just as much a mental issue as a physical. You have to trust that your knee will hold up. Second, is our goal to win right away, or in the future? If our goal is to get to the playoffs and make some noise in 2013, then Revis is the guy (assuming he’s healthy). Highly unlikely you will find anyone in the draft better. Certainly not as polished and ready for game action. Rookie CB’s usually have some growing pains. Revis is a big, physical corner that would appear to fit our system perfectly, but there is the question of how long he will be a all pro type player. Ronde Barber’s are very rare. It’s slightly unrealistic to believe he will get better. He is much more likely to have his play decline. Personally, I would do the deal. I want to be good now, I’ll worry about the future later. Then again, I’m no GM and don’t have my job on the line, so it’s a much easier decision for me.
