As usual, posters are all too ready to send a player packing without having due process run its’ course. No wonder attorneys have difficulty selecting a jury of our peers when there are so many of us with that “off with their heads” mentality before the trial commences. What’s that saying, “judge not lest ye be judged”? We always want our own indiscretions overlooked while pointing a wagging “shame on you” finger at everyone else. Bowers made a mistake. Big deal!

If we have learned any thing from this past season, and from the aderal twins, it that the wheels of justice turn slowly and when they engage they will pinch you in the arse at the most inopportune time. We can not afford to play with this situation, Time to use the bad behavior clause in his contract. Last year hurt us very bad.

Paul Kruger, Michael Johnson, Connor Barwin, and Cliff Avril would alll be upgrades over Bennett. Kruger and Johnson would be worth breaking the bank over. They are elite and young. Barwin could be a stud if he bounces back to form from 2011, Avril is solid, not great. Both are at or around Bennett’s level.

I’d say there was a chance we went DE in the first round anyways. Why not grab a pass rusher and hang onto Bowers as long as we can. When we drafted him it was supposedly for borrowed time anyways. We need a long term answer for the position and I believe Bjoern Werner is our guy.

It depends in Schiano’s definition of impact, just like his, definition of competition at, the QB position… Does “impact” mean that they value DE’S higher going into the offseason, or does it mean, they had to have a meeting with the teams lawyers for an hour to discus possible legal ramifications, and have said lawyers look over similar cases, and write Dominik a report, on how, these legal troubles will affect the football operations, a huge headache, for a absent minded mistake by Bowers, but it might not have a direct impact on the offseason priorities. That “impact” might be several thousands of dollars spent, and hours taken from football related activities, i’m sure this is why coaches and GM’s have very little tolerance for off field BS.

I think the uncertainty of Bowers’s case has them all on edge. They’re not sure yet, how to move forward, and probably feel now they’ve lost what advantage they had on Bennetts contract. When it rains, it pours.

There will only be an impact if Bowers misses any significant time away from the Bucs. The Bucs will know well ahead of the draft and before Bowers appears before a judge how this is going to play out. Negotiations between counsel and the DA will occur way before the court date.

Unless something happens or is discovered that is different from what is known today, I don’t see this as having any effect on the Bucs plans going forward. If you use precedence set with the Shaun Rogers incident, one would expect a stiff fine from Goodell, but no suspension.
