I’m not a lawyer (thank God) and don’t know about jurisdiction on this, but in Florida, you can pretty much file against anyone for anything, and like it or not, you better defend it. It’s ridiculous and frivolous lawsuits happen. Look at what MJ is trying to do to Bubba. It’s crazy, so a smart man would be wise not to test the boundaries publicly. Legal fees are huge and only the lawyers win. Tim Brown should be racing to a microphone to apologize, or he could see hundreds of thousands evaporate for being stupid, and then some.

Absent a few million discovered in Callahan’s Swiss bank account, its all unsupported speculation.

Defamation actions can be brought for “reckless disregard for the truth”, which this is damn close to IMO.

I mean throw a game for Chucky? Please. The coachs are brothers in this SB and are going after each others throats.

Im glad the idiot didnt change the terminology though, but the bucs still woulda kicked ass.

Lastly, why would two great receivers want an offense based on running? If I recall the Super Bowl video Rice was chewing Gannon’s ass out for not throwing him the ball!

I think it’s pretty simple: Brown and Rice are confusing Callahan’s obvious idiocy with malicious intent.

The real answer is just sad: Callahan didn’t know what the hell he was doing and left his team horribly prepared to play in the most important game of their lives.

Brown must think all the other teams in the pal offs the bucs roles through were rigged as well. Gannon’s explanation makes more sense. The way to beat that bucs team was with a big back, they tried and went back to their bread and butter, throwing the ball, also the bread and butter of the bucs defense… Pass defense. The nfl does not need to investigate, because it brown makes no sense. Most reasonable people realize it too.

JobBcsFan got it right. There is no libel or slander here, nothing that can’t be fixed with a simple apology. Libel is a legal term of art that requires specific elements in order to be a cause of action. Go ahead and debate who is the biggest idiot here, but let’s not go to court just yet.

The elements of a defamation suit; whether slander or libel, are:

1. A defamatory statement;
2. Published to a third party;
3. Which the speaker knew or should have known was false;
4. That causes injury to the subject of the communication

Nothing to get all bothered about. Tomorrow Timmy will apologize and retract his statement not wantng to jepordize his bid for the hall and Callahan will go about the business of insuring that the Cowboys are never relevant again with his horrible playcalling!

I think after Callahan’s statement you’ll see Brown back peddle and probably retract and apologize.

This is an internal squabble in the Raiders camp and some people apparently are still bothered that the underdogs came in and whooped their asses. There’s no need for the NFL to get involved.

I see your point. It just depends on how far the NFL wants to take this. They could do a full investigation and find out the truth, but even if they do I doubt that they would admit to a Super Bowl being thrown If Brown’s statements are infact correct. Or they could pretend like it never happened while giving some cliche statement about how all NFL games are Legit, and slowly wait for all this “Super Bowl being thrown” chatter to die down, and then move on. Im guessing the later will be the way they go.

That’s because Brown’s words were very harsh.

Claiming a Super Bowl was thrown is about as bad as it can get. You basically tarred and feathered innocent men (Callahan, Trestman, Harbaugh) and put the integrity of the NFL in doubt, which could cost the NFL millions of advertising dollars.
