@ Miguel so next eve of training camp when we find we have only 5 players who don’t put in the blood sweat & tears the full month before camp starts, and simply do what their employer is requesting.(show up in shape) Then we will know who wants to play in Tampa in prime physical condition. This to me is a blessing, why wait until the regular season games to find out who has what it takes to do what is expected of them as NFL players. Show up in shape ready to go the first day of camp.
You talk about the heat in Florida in the summer, what do the Florida college coaches do? “hey guys let’s go inside it is to hot to practice or run gauntlets today” As I recall both Coach Schiano and Special assistant Davis both coached at the college city farther south than Tampa, where the heat is higher and the humidity is off the chart. I’m sure they learned at the U how this works with lowly college players.
What college football program have you ever worked for? With all your espouted knowledge on these football fitness issues, I bet you can get a job on Coach Kelly’s new staff… Just hope they don’t have you run the gopher gauntlet, coffee, tape, trash, field paint, etc. You might pull something, so watch out.

ad hominem attacks. but i do think his opinions had merit at times versus the constant “110 x 16 sprints hurt the team and schiano is butch” drivel, lol.

@Lurker: Thomas? Yes! Reading him was an exercise in exasperation. Sometimes you felt like you needed to roll your pant legs up (and as some of my British friends would say) and put on your rubbers to walk through some postings.

Do I miss him? Sometimes, but not enough to want Joe to allow him back on. We have enough still here that looks at life and Buccaneer happenings from the bottom side up and just love to be angry.

Your math is a little fuzzy, 10 players were tremendously effected by that one day disaster, 100 players went through camp at half speed, eight weeks of suspensions at their most vulnerable position, a player was red-shirted for a season, it destroyed team morale and the Teflon Dom wasn’t able to sign players off the street to play during the season.

Let’s change that to, “It should be noted that it wasn’t an issue for 10% of the roster.”

Without the gauntlets the Bucs would still be playing.

How butch is that?

Belicheat who is an incredibly hardheaded coach forces his linemen to sprint 40 yards 10 times. Schiano 110 yards 16 times in the Florida summer heat.

What if Gaines Adams was drafted by Greg? He would have died the 1st day of camp.

What if the Bucs draft Jadeveon Clowney (JCP) next year? Do you risk killing potentially the greatest defensive end in history on the 1st day of camp? Does his agent allow it? Does he have a clause in his contract that he won’t go to any team that runs gauntlets?

By the way Joe sir. I seen Dougie Fresh at the combine (which I know you think its a waste) but I said to myself that kids is good. Along with Kendal Wright(Titans) & Harrison(Viking).

JJ.Watt, Percy Harvin were standout at the combine too.

Believe it or not I wished we could of got JJ but The Texans Got Him before we picked him. His motor was relentless.. Thats what WE missing Some Motor Guys!

Joe doesn’t think the combine is a waste, just overblown by many. Mike Williams was a standout at the combine, as well. Clearly the best receiver there behind Dez Bryant. –Joe.

Yeah thats stupid as hell miguel. I agree! You don’t expect Olinemen & Dlinemen to run sprints. Thats like telling the corners to bench press 350.

Schiano isn’t smart! He couldnt even find a way to get a nice 1-2 punch at RB. Its like he wanted to make a statement by giving Doug ALL THE CARRIES. IF Doug wasnt such a beast and just a normal back he would of been tired week 10. Every other team ran 2 backs but us. THATS A STATEMENT! LEPERCHAN’S A F-UP! When he gets rid of Blunt that will be the dumbest thing in the world. F the Haters!

If he was Smart he would pick Brandon Jacobs up to show Blunt how its done. Get rid of Ware..Make Jacobs the 2nd FB behind Lorig. Keep 5backs ativated. Let Mike Smith do the Darren Sproles.

Miguel, I think you’re completely wrong if you think Schiano isn’t intelligent. He isn’t pigheaded or stubborn either, from what I can tell. I think you’re totally misreading the guy, and obviously haven’t listened to him in interviews. He’s a thoughtful man with a set of core beliefs and a hardcore work ethic.

By the way, Bill Belichick also puts all his players through conditioning tests, regardless of their weight. Why shouldn’t he? If you’re being payed to be an athlete, you ought to be able to train to complete the necessary conditioning drills. It should be noted that it wasn’t an issue for 95% of the roster. Everybody here complained that Raheem was too easy on the players, and now people want to complain that Schiano is too tough on them? They can’t even run two-a-days anymore. Schiano has high standards, and it seemed to me the team did buy in.

Some people love to complain.

I do see many similarities and have pointed them out during the season. Pigheaded, stubborn, and not too bright. It’s scary when a player when a high level of intelligence is coached by a dullard. How can someone “buy in” to things that make no common sense?

Like making a 350LB athlete sprint 110 yards 16 times in the Florida summer heat before a 3 hour practice.

Culverhouse thought of Perkins as Bear Bryant. Hugh’s football acumen matched his fashion sense.

The main difference is someone with common sense sat him the Little General down during the bye week and had a critical intervention. Coming out of the bye they were a different team.
