I am on the fence about who should replace him tho. You’ve got Watson who is a great pass rushing LBer but is very moderate in pass pro. Then you have Hayward who is a mediocre player at any position but he has tons of experience at all 3 lber spots.

If you go with Hayward then you have to go through another question. Put him at SAM or put him at MIKE and let Foster slide over (to his natural spot) and run with it that way?

I like Watson a lot and think he has more talent then Black or Hayward.

Highly doubt it. Maybin is a defensive end in a four-man front. He was only a “linebacker” by name only playing a 34 defense. His bread and butter is pass rushing and he hasn’t been adept at that since his junior year at Penn State.

Joe’s of the opinion that players cut in November from bad teams are unemployed for a reason.

Yeah well this team was also last in the run defense last year, but we’re #1 this year, so coaching could play a part in him sucking with the Jets. Jets are falling apart anyways. Plus we could use him in blitzing packages as a situational pass rusher. He’s young and probably cheap to pick up. Black sucked lasted year, but has been way better this year. Maybin just might need to be coached up better.

I’d like to see Dakota Watson get the nod. He may add a new element to the pass rush and he is a play maker.

I feel for the guy, but here’s how I view it…he signed a big contract, played horrible the first year of it, and then he only plays half a season the next year (although he played better).

So in reality, the Bucs only got their money’s worth for half a season in the last two seasons.

I’m not saying we should replace him, but if a young guy steps in and does well enough to take the position from him, Black could be trade bait next year.

Anybody that didn’t see that Black was playing the run this season like a pro bowler, has no idea what they’ve been looking at and shouldn’t even comment about football/

Run stopping Sam LBs that are on the field anywhere from 33-50% of all snaps definitely shouldn’t be making what Black was making but he was excellent in attacking the TE in the run game and forcing runs back inside. I hope he comes back at a lesser pay next season and continues his run of success.

I would like to see the Bucs kill two birds with one stone in the draft next season to replace him if he doesn’t come back. Finding a guy like Oregon’s Dion Jordan that could playt the Sam on running downs and put his hand on the ground and excel as a speed edge rusher on passing downs with be a major addition for the defense. I always thought that that guy would/should be Dakoda Watson but for whatever reason it just hasn’t happened yet.

I was not a Quincy Black supporter, but I didnt want to see him go down with a season ending and possibly a career ending injuring. so I kinda have mixed feelings on this situation

i wish quincy well, but it’s interesting that the contract situation (as described by joe) basically incentivizes black against attempting a comeback. his options are:
a) get back to football shape, get cut by the bucs, never see a $5m salary again
b) call it a day and get the last $15m guaranteed in an injury settlement

if i were quincy i would hang up my cleats and start taking finance classes
