Sounds exactly like a nerve getting smashed. I had the nerve nucleus smashed in high school footbal. Made a TD saving, diving tackle and we rolled out of bounds. I was going full speed and rolled onto the edge of the runway for the long jump or something from track. My elbow slammed into the corner (think hitting your funny bone - which is the nerve - as hard as you can onto the corner of a curb).
My entire left side of my body went numb and I couldn't move. FREAKY. Didn't feel anything, thought I was paralyzed and I didn't know why.
There is another nerve nucleus in the neck area that could do the same thing.
The effects are lingering for awhile. All my feeling came back over the course of 3 days but to this day (25 years later) I still don't have any feeling in the side of my left pinky... wierdest thing.
Doctor told me if it was the nerve in the neck (which is what they were checking to make sure of) it could have been worse because alot of feeling in larger parts of my arm might not have returned.

Anyway, sorry to drag on, but this sounds very familiar. Here's to hoping Black gets healthy

Wish QB a speedy and full recovery. He was having his best season yet and thriving in this new defense. It was a thunderous hit. We could here all the way up in 309. Glad it wasn't worse. The Chargers showed a lot of class too. Norv is good coach with a good team. The Bucs were just better yesterday at making plays in the clutch.
