As usual, the comments center around the musings of our resident "sage", Tommy 2.2; who no doubt has Chubby Checker's big hit "The Twist" playing in the background as his introductory theme song. The guy can put a negative spin on Bo Derek. In Tommy's eyes she's barely a 7. He obviously hasn't learned the difference between the words "fan" and "critic". Guess which one he is. I still say, he's on Joe's payroll with a business card that reads, "Agitator."

To be honest, my brain is telling me it will take a season or two to turn the team around. My heart and instincts are giving me a feeling that we'll see vast improvement this year, and that Schiano is going to be a very successful head coach.

I'm curious...which got better first? The Colts or the Pats? I know I could look it up, but the wife wants fun time right now, so I'm in a rush.

Are there any similarities to how that division became the best in football?

I mean, we have the Saints (who I think are being underestimated this year) and the Falcons. Brees is getting up there in years, but he's got a few left in him. But we have Ryan and Freeman and Newton. I don't believe Newton will be as good as the national media is trying to sell on us, and I think the battle for dominance will be between Ryan and Freeman once Brees calls it quits...maybe before.

Interesting point. I admit to not knowing that there were 11 coaching changes in 2009, not all were due to firings I.e. Caldwell for a retiring Dungy.

More interesting though is that all 9 who are now gone were pro assistants and not College Head Coaches like Harbaugh. Hence, why they went after Kelly hard then Schiano.

Macabee's analysis should show that Pro assistants are no sure thing either.

Schiano has been both.

Before we start to doubt whether Schiano will have a tough time making the transition from college coach to NFL coach, we need to acknowledge that he like every new NFL coach regardless of where they come from has a difficult time making it in the NFL.

Rather than blaming it on his college background (Eric), it may simply be – It’s not easy being an NFL coach. Take the 2009 incoming class of NFL coaches. I could have chosen any year, but in deference to Thomas 2.2, I chose 2009 because it’s Rah Rah’s graduating class.

In 2009, the following were hired as new NFL coaches:
(1) Eric Mangini
(2) Jim Caldwell
(3) Josh McDaniel
(4) Todd Haley
(5) Tom cable
(6) Mike Singletary
(7) Jim Mora Jr.
(8) Steve Spagnuolo
(9) Raheem Morris
(10) Rex Ryan
(11) Jim Schwartz

Of 11 new coaches hired in 2009, only 2 remain – Rex Ryan (on FoxSport’s coaching hotseat) and Jim Schwartz (whose team is currently imploding from off-field violations). Keep in mind that there were 11 coaches fired for them to be hired. My point – this is hard work and few are consistently successfully. Bill Belichick and Sean Payton were fired once before becoming successful.

I expect no less difficulty for Schiano. He may beat the odds as did Harbaugh (SF) who may be the exception. But make no bones about it, this will be a difficult year, but my take is Schiano makes the cut. And if he doesn’t, it probably has nothing to do with his college background, but that this NFL coaching thing is just hard to do!

See silence, even Pete gets it. Read your comments and then Pete's, see the difference?

I do not hate my team, I am pissed at those who ruined it for 3 years.

I love Schiano and staff and believe that they will turn it around in time. I love ronde, free, DJ, VJ, Mike Will, Pig Penn, Nicks, Clay and Bennett, I am encouraged by Price, Foster, Wright and the Rooks!

I think Dom is clueless, and is a glorified low-level scout and nothing more.

All I do is correct mischaracterizations: if you act like Dom has been great - I weigh-in, same goes for Gerald, Blount ( who is explosive but woefully incomplete), Biggers, Talib etc.

I view the aforementioned as more of the problem than solution. I am not saying that those players are talent-less - just flawed or defective or disappointing and that needs to be identified when it's accurate.

Too many of you fans think it's helpful to not call bad football, bad football when it's your team or player.

We will see what

Schiano turned a Rutgers program around, and had a lack of talent there for awhile too. I mean who the heck wants to go to freaking New Jersey, if you are any kind of high school athlete ?
Ok, Tampa is far from a complete team, we have some holes.
But I think Schiano will rebuild us, and we will surprise some teams this year.
Hey, look at it this way. Nothing could be as bad as last year, right ?

Sometimes I just want to go the complete opposite of Thomas 2.2 and be as delusional as he is but to the other extreme. Just to add some out of control contrast.

As obnoxious as Thomas is about it, he makes at least one valid point. All of the talent on this team is unproven...except maybe Nicks and Jackson. The rest still have something to prove.

Even Clayborn must prove last year was not a fluke.

That said, I choose to believe a large percentage of out starters WILL prove themselves this year.

My only questions of the veterans) are Zuttah at center, Penn with his weight gain and aging body, Biggers (huge question), Price and Black. I think the rest will improve across the board, including Benn, Blount, Parker and GMC.
