Another difference. There are TWO starting CBs, but only ONE starting RB. If you’re a starting corner, a new high draft pick at your position might not be grabbing YOUR spot. But if you’re a starting RB, that new high draft at your position can only be gunning for YOUR job.

On a side note, would be happy with a RB like Martin, Turbin or Polk to team with Blount if the team goes with Claiborne. Still need at least one more besides that to compete with Madu as well. Curious if the team goes with a vet or grabs two backs in the draft. In the end though, really doesn’t matter what Blount or Barber or anyone else thinks, the team’s gonna draft whoever they think gives them the best chance to win.

“Let’s be honest here (if you can)”. Really dude? Would like to think Schiano is being honest when he says everyone is competing for their right to start. So by your way of thinking, if Claiborne is the pick he’s starting ahead of Barber, Talib and Wright simply because he’s the #5 pick? Really? Now go home Bobby, I hear your mom calling.

Trent Richardson and Mark Ingram did a pretty good job together as a “dynamic duo”

Heck, the Giants employ a 2 back system, and it works well for them.

Why not grab the best RB since Adrian Peterson?

We don’t need to pass on this kind of talent, again.

@FlBoy84….you’re talking apples and oranges dude. When Barber was in his 2nd or third year he may not have welcomed a ‘replacement’ quite so warmly. Let’s be honest here (if you can). Richardson is not ‘competition’ for Blount. Richardson would be a #5 pick, Blount was an undrafted FA. You don’t bring in #5 picks to be competition….you bring them in to start. Doesn’t take a genius to see that Blount responded the way anyone in his position would and should if they want to send the message: “You don’t need to get a replacement for me. I’ll be your main guy. Just get a complimentary back and we’re good to go.”

You could possibly be right. However, even the dimmest of fans and players understand that in order to win a team needs more than one quality RB on the roster. Barber is confident in his ability, welcomes the challenge and understands it makes him a better player. I don’t think any of those things apply to Blount. I don’t think it’s Blount saying he “wants to be that guy” as you suggest, as much as he’s saying he “should” be that guy and it should be given to him.

People just dont catch on to what Blount said. Schiano said he wants a guy that wants the Ball and never wants to come out of the game.

That was simply Blounts way of saying he wants to be that guy.

Can definitely tell the difference between a vet in Barber and a young RB in Blount when it came to the question of adding quality guys to the roster at their position. Barber welcomed the competition and understands that you need more than 1 quality CB for the team to be successful. Hopefully Blount eventually understands at some point that it’s true at the RB position as well. Really hope Ronde can get another two years in, as he’s the last man standing from our ’02 championship team and a true Buccaneer.

From everything I have read and continue to hear about him, I think Shiano is just what this team needed!

BTW Gilligan could run a tighter ship than Raheem!
