The players want an ever increasing salary scale that is unsustainable, and more! The players want to see antiquated annual statements to try to take an average from that. Times have changed financially since then. Just look at the falling housing values and the failing banks. This is NOT 2007 when things were priced higher than inflation. Everyone is affected all the way down the food chain. Disposable income is a thing of the past.

What do you think would happen if you took your house and averaged the last 5 years values and then tried to sell it for that price? You wouldnt sell it, you would be priced out of the market.

The union wants to see the books as if it matters. While the union is looking bacwards the owners look forward, thats what business owners do. And the future economic prospects look terrible. Business wont be booming like it had done pre housing bubble collapse. Hell the country is on the verge of bankruptcy. Government spending is gonna get cut, welfare and medicade is gonna get cut too. The streets may end up in riots and the suburbs will see pillagings (sp). Times are going to get harder. The owners see this.

Still dont believe me? The owners get a lot of money from the television deals. The television organisations get a lot of money from advertising to place their ads on the air during the games. With a depressed economy, the television outfits will see a significant reduction is ad money, which will ultimately blindside the NFL is the next television negotiations. The ever increasing TV deals from the competing networks just wont be offered. No, even they will start low balling the NFL. All this coupled with the owners increasing revenues for stadiums et al, has the owners contemplating austerity measures on their own.

The United States economy has been operating on inflated monopoly money for over 30 years now. Something had to give, and it started with the houses and the jobs. Now gas and food. Peoples incomes arent increasing, some are going down as they have to find work replacement. Things are different, and if you dont believe that then you havent been paying attention.

The union is lucky they have owners still willing to pay them more than they were getting as proven by that 11th hour deal published by them that the union rejected because they would rather play the peoples court. The union is being greedy and stupid. They are screwing it up bigtime. Not too many people think the players dont get paid enough. In fact the savvy fan knows that if the union gets its way, then ticket prices will just keep increasing.

If anything, the salaries should go down significantly enough to lower ticket prices.

That is true, Joe. However, it is also very common in a down economy for business owners to cut back spending (especially when it comes to payroll) and spend any excess they have on marketing and improvements to the business to draw more customers. When the economy is down, owners do what they can to draw more business and cut expenses. This is why so many people are out of jobs right now, businesses cutting payroll. Even though the NFL is a multi-billion dollar industry, I don't expect them to be any different.

I don't know how you can be disinterested if you're a Bucs fan. I'm more interested this spring than I've been since 03 looking for a title defense. We have an exciting team now who just barely missed the playoffs. We had the same record as the champs and beat them just a year before. The last 2 weeks of the season we beat 2 playoff teams. I'm still very much interested. I'm going to ignore all the other bs I can't control and focus on loving my team.

No free agency coupled with retarded union reps has raised the apathy level higher than it has probably ever been.

Unlike the last strike, this time the entire country is hurting economically, people have lost their jobs and houses, hell, the country itself got downgraded by the S&P. Congress all of a sudden has realized that they need to cut spending significantly, while also realizing how it cant be done with the lobbiest dollars forcing votes to the special interests. Either way, austerity has to happen. And the dumb ass players union look like jackasses wanting more money.

Nobody really gives a rats ass anymore I tell ya.

I agree RastaMon, 100%.
