The bucs uncovered a ton of talent this year and subsequently lost much of it to injury. These young players develop in years 2 – 3 and it will only improve competition next year.

It does not hurt to keep Jackson on the team. Unless you are worried that he is taking a roster spot for some scrub off of the practice squad. Why do people think that keeping him on the roster automatically equates to “counting on him”. The Bucs can very easily draft or sign a free agent safety to “count on” while also keeping Jackson. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Go ahead and acquire another safety in the offseason who you they think is starter quality. Let said guy compete with Tanard for the starting job. Worst case scenario is that Tanard gets suspended again and your other starting caliber guy steps in. If Tanard does get suspended again the only loss I see in that situation is that they could have been coaching up some scrub at the back end of the roster during that time Tanard remained on the team. The Bucs do have Sean Jones still also so technically they don’t really have to acquire another safety at all. Just let Tanard and Sean compete for it. Tanard will almost certainly win and if gets booted again the worst that happens is in comes Sean Jones. I think Bucs fans should be able to live with that risk.

If we forget his draft status and look at him honestly, Cody Grimm was probably the second best player on the Bucs defense this year next to Talib. His name was called more consistently than any other player on the defense when it came to making key tackles. One or two more interceptions and we would probably be hollering for him to go to the pro-bowl. He certainly tackled at a pro-bowl level.

I think what Joe is trying to say is let Tanard play out the remainder of his contract (ie. 4 months), but extending him would be a mistake. I disagree though.

My personal opinion: Tanard is young and can recover from this “problem” of his. It does seem a little ridiculous that he needs another chance to redeem himself but not knowing all the circumstances behind what happened, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Give the guy a 1 or 2 year deal at low cost and see how he responds. Tanard has no leverage right now. The Bucs need to exploit this and see what they can get out of it.

I mean…if he could photograph playmates the way Tanard plays safety, then probably.

Again, I get your point and wouldn’t be shocked or second guessing if they let him go. But no one would argue that when the kid’s on the field he plays at a Pro Bowl level…..it would KILL me to see him making plays in another uniform.

This was to be Jackson’s last year of his contract. Since he was suspended with roughly four months left in this contract, that balance will carry over to a portion of next season, if there is a next season.

there’s really no reason to get rid of jackson at this point. next year he’ll be repeating the last year of his contract. put him on the list to start the year and bring him back into the fold after week 6 as a rotational guy. it’s a no lose.
