I wish you would have used the words ‘passed on’ instead of ‘dead’ with gaines, although he didn’t live up to his draft slot he was a human being and deserves to be treated as such even while he is no longer with us. The way you just list dead seems disrespectful. Love all your work, just thought it was a poor choice of words.

The 2010 draft, at this point, looks awesome. So sad how little talent we got in the prior drafts. Still, if you are looking for the kind of draft that can turn a franchise around, this one looks good – with the accurate Clayton warning. I believe Williams will be a beast for years… the pick I worry about is Price. And why in GOd’s name can we get a punter????

I have always thought that Sabby was a reach in the second round. Or at least thats what the experts claimed post draft.

Remember, the big debate was “Do we trade the 4th pick & the 2 second rounders for the 2nd pick, thereby getting Calvin Johnson?”, & the answer, according to Bruce Allen, was no. You KNOW Gruden wanted that, but he let Monte pick Gaines, & Allen make the decision against Megatron(3 for 1, I understand, but you better be damn sure of those 3).

You go into a draft with a board, & clearly they had Gaines, Sears, & Sabby high on their board—a nice guy who didn’t seem to like football, a tackle moving to guard, imo always risky(from finesse to brute), & another guy who was a freakish athlete who isn’t that into football.
It’s why you pick football players who happen to be good athletes(Cody Grimm, & probably Gerald McCoy), as opposed to just Supermen in Shorts. & why the mantra by Dom “try to get team captains from premiere programs, because they probably LIKE football” was very smart…

About the 2010 pickups.

You have to wait until 2012 to see if they are still on the roster.
How are you counting 4 guys from 2009′s draft?
And yes, the punter in the 6th. So he doesn’t get on the list?

Were these two guys drafted in the 3rd round in 2009?
3. Tyrone McKenzie (2009) Counting him cause he is basically a rookie
3. Alex Magee (2009) Trade but bascially rookie

If you want to be mad at someone for that I’d start with Tony Dungy. He squandered a Super Bowl caliber defense for at least 4 years.

We should be kissing Gruden’s feet that he was able to come in and get the one he did.

Oar & derf,

I’m not saying all the guys on that list will be great, but they are all promising young talent, and out of 22 you’d have to think atleast 10 of those guys will work ouit for us. Ten would still be huge.

Hire Greg Olsen,

McKenzie was signed to the PS about a month ago.

And as far as Gruden going to Miami, I think it would be good for him. I think before he comes back to the NFL he should coach some college and try to improve his ability to mentor and develope young men. It was his biggest weakness. If he can improve that part of his coaching, he could eventually come back and be a great NFL coach. If he comes back right now I have a feeling he’ll continue to coach all veteran teams and run into the same problems of not building for the future.

Lets see this 2010 draft list in three years, just to be fair. Dont get me wrong, I agree they seem talented, but lets give them a year or two and see where/how they are playing.
