Possibly both. The actual landing of the helmet on Torrie’s face is battery. The immediate apprehension of physical harm by either Cox or Penn is assault.

Gotta love the “boys will be boys” attitude the media and some fans are taking. I’d like to see these people on the field and have someone swing a helmet at them and see if they go “nancy boy” and have a fit about it. The bimbo on 10 Connects said “save it for the season”…sure, and get a hefty suspension to boot. Good job!

These types of things tend to be self correcting if left alone to do so, by that I mean that since they are a team, they will find a way internally of fixing the problem. Filing charges and getting the law involved, or even the league for that matter will only complicate the issue.

I want an aggressive guy on defense, not a nobel peace prize winner!

During John Lynch’s retirement cerimony, John told a story about being on an airplane returning from a game and Warren Sapp was pissing him off…John warned Sapp to lay off, but Sapp continued and it took several players to restrain Lynch…the incident was remembered fondly by Lynch which means it strengthened their bond as a team unit.

If you watch the NFL network’s “Top Ten” series, some of the most revered players on defense were some of the nastiest son’s of bitches that ever played the game, back in the day when trying to take somebody’s head off was acceptable.

This is a young man still finding his role in the NFL, you learn by your mistakes…mistakes being the plural form of mistake, which means that you have to make more than one to mature.

Cox could easily have Talib arrested. Just as you could in your workplace. It was way out of bounds. If Carl Crawford raised a baseball bat to Scott Kazmir and whacked another player in the face, it goes across the line of reasonable.

Talib should be issued a very hefty fine $50,000 at least..

Without details, we really can’t pass judgment. I’ve been in fights on the football field in both high school and college and this stuff happens. Particularly in the NFL, almost every single player is on the fine line between being out of control and in control. That’s how these guys made it this far: they can toe that line.

Hey simple solution – have Torrie Cox file police charges against Talib. The sherriff comes to investigate and Talib gets locked up for a night – maybe that’s what it takes to get this guy’s head on straight.

Punching, shoving, fighting – happens all the time as tempers flare. Swinging a helmet is over the line as serious injuries can occur. It also depends on the circumstances; was it just a mild swing, playing swing, or a full blown windmill wind-up knock his block off swing. These are all factors we don’t know cause we weren’t there.

Joe understands in the heat of battle, games or practices, tempers flare. Likely happens every practice.

Swinging your helmet in anger is a totally different issue. This isn’t Aqib Talib’s first offense either. Torrie Cox is fortunate he didn’t end up like Marcus Williams.

When shortly after the draft, Fly posted that Talib was just another in King Jon’s long line of thugs, many laughed and belittled Fly. But, we see his true character, or lack of it, in this incident. Perhaps the young man needs a week in the Hillsborough County jail!
