“Will Gholston Is The Best”

What if defensive end/tackle Will Gholston plays this season like he did in 2016? And what if DE Carl Nassib plays like he did last year when he racked up 6 1/2 sacks and was a solid presence?

If those happenings occur, then Nassib likely will command about $10 million annually and hit the road as a free agent, and Gholston will shock Bucs nation and be a bargain returning to Tampa Bay for $4.75 million in 2020.

But more than likely, both players are entering their final seasons in Tampa.

If you listen to Nassib 0n Behind The Buccaneers, Gholston would be a big loss to the community. Nassib recently spoke about volunteering at kids events with Buccaneers.com and said Gholston is a very special person.

“Yeah, we have a lot of guys [who give their time] – Will Gholston is the best. I want to give him a shout out,” Nassib said. “He is the best person I’ve been around. I’m sure there are other great guys, too, but he does such a fantastic job giving back in the Tampa community and the surrounding counties. I’m just trying to follow him and do as much as I can. I don’t think people volunteer enough. I just think it’s such a rewarding experience to volunteer and be a service other people.”

As Joe counts the seconds to the start of training camp, Joe’s taking a moment here to acknowledge this impressive praise of Gholston. It’s always nice to hear of players going far above and beyond like apparently Gholston does regularly — and without fanfare.

Good for Gholston. Now go help end this franchise’s horrendous losing ways.

Both guys are awesome. Concerning from Joe: “But more than likely, both players are entering their final seasons in Tampa.”

Why? Isn’t Gholston on the hook for 2020? Why let him go if he does well and he’s locked up for $4.75M? And Nassib…if he continues to elevate his play from last year, would there not be $10M or so?

To bad being a nice guy and model citizen in the community only goes so far, especially here in Tampa, Just ask GMC ……

Only goes so far in every NFL city. At the end of the day, do you want the roster filled with nuns and missionaries with lots of losses or guys who produce on the field and wins?

    GMC actually produced.

Fairly confident the Glazers aren’t (over)paying Gholston to be a brand ambassador.

I see WG92 being BUCS Badass this season! Better coaching should equal 10 sacks!! GO BUCS GO FAMOUS GO SUHY GO WG92!!

  7. Barbosa Says:

@joe As a kid who did some time in private school, I’’d Like my chances with a defense full of nuns!

  8. Jeffbuc Says:

Thanks bigmacattack now that song is stuck in my head. And just that chorus because that is all I remember. My wife is going to hate me in the morning when I and singing that all morning.

  9. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Gholston was best at DT in a 4-3. Too light to be a NT in 3-4 but might excel at DE in a 3-4.

Joe still has an urge to punch a nun.

Ghoston should explode to two sacks with Nassib and Vea around him.

    That’s what Joe is hoping.

  13. BucEmUp Says:

Gholston gave up because of bad coaching. Im not saying thats right, but this season everyone will see what motivation or lack therof will do to a team and its players

  14. RustyRhinos Says:

So if Gholston has his “normal” 1-2 sacks and Nassib has another 6.5 why would we want to keep Gholston? He has been here a long time and he has not shown me much hustle like we see with Nassib. Again we will keep Gholston and his 4 million dollar salary over a guy with nonstop motor who if he does his job and gets 6.5 sacks we will let him go. Am I missing something here. Why would we want to do that? Maybe in your mind we will be paying 25+ million a season for a Player in their Fifth season we still are not decided on.. I get it.
Show Me! Do Not Tell Me, SHOW ME!!!
    GO BUCS!

  15. Hodad Says:

Joe you’re not making sense, why would the Bucs let them go next year if they both play well? Joe never wrote that. You’re putting two things together that weren’t done in the article. –Joe If we have the money to pay Will this year, we can certainly pay him next, he’s under contract. Nassib is a no brainer, you pay him. Good guy, smart, right age, and wants to be here, you pay him! You complain we need a D end, then when we find one, you talk like we won’t keep him, why Joe? Glad training camp is next week, and you’ll have to keep busy with two practice fields! Right now take a break.

  16. bucnole Says:

Joe never said we wouldn’t keep Karl – (forgive me if I’m putting words in your mouth Joe) I took the comments to mean we would probably lose him in FA – being outbid for his services.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

When your second stringers are as good as other teams first string you are getting somewhere.

Neither Gholston nor Nassib are our premier players but there is still a reasonable chance we could get premier play from them this year.

  18. BA FAN Says:

Both are very important this year and if they both produce they will need to be kept. Years ago when the Bucs had a winning team players were willing take lesser money so the Coach could keep the team together.

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

Lot of faith in a guy that has done absolutely zero on the field. I’ll believe it when I see it! Nassib on the other hand, I look for more production with more reps.
Gholston?! Man, please. Hey,great guy though!

  20. Bob Says:

Enough of “nice guys off the field”, get some sacks your defense is horrendous
