Report: Bucs Shopping DJax

March 11th, 2019

“Please Jason, don’t send me to Buffalo. If you do, I will pull an Antonio Brown.”

It seems the Bucs are doing their best to try to trade malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

That’s the word from Jenna Laine of ESPN who states multiple sources have told the four-letter that Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is dangling Jackson as trade bait throughout the league.

A trade would be preferred for the Bucs, but some teams ESPN has spoken to believe Jackson will be released rather than traded. Jackson is still under contract and the Bucs do have the option of holding onto him for 2019.

The Eagles are expected to have mutual interest in Jackson, who would provide the deep threat they sorely lacked in 2018 after Mike Wallace broke his leg Week 2 — against Tampa. However, it’s to be determined whether they’d be willing to trade for him or would only be in play if he is released.

Now this ought to be interesting. Jackson went on Chris Simms’ podcast at the Super Bowl and whined about having to work with a young quarterback like America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Jackson, in so many words, pulled an Allen Iverson and claimed he didn’t need to practice. It showed, since the only receiver Jameis had an issue with was Jackson.

Why does this interest Joe if Jackson goes to Philadelphia? Well, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has less NFL experience than Jameis.

Careful what you wish for!

[Thanks for the catch. That’s what Joe gets for writing stories at 1 a.m. when he’s distracted because his luggage was lost flying back to Florida this evening. — Joe] 🙁

  2. Kyle Says:

    bye bye ahole

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

Maybe Bucs can swap DJax with Eagles guard Stefen Wisniewski straight up. That would work well for us.

  4. Joe in Michigan Says:

Trade or cut, either way it’s a win for the Bucs.

  5. ElioT Says:

Wow ESPN, what an epiphany! No sH*t Sherlock.

    I will say this…

If the Bucs let Hump and Kwon go, and keep DJax and McCoy, I’m done with this team, like done.

If they let them all go and bring in done need blood FAs including a couple top-notch guys, great.

  6. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Finally some good news!

  7. Mike10 Says:

Lol he can leave, but we’re still stuck in neutral w Winston

  8. Bucco Says:

Wentz McCann throw a deep ball though, let’s not revise history here.

  9. Mike Says:

Trade him to the Rams like he wants, they’re in win now mode, he wants to be there, he’s a big celebrity from the area, loves making gangsta movies, they handled some big personalities well- get a 6th or seventh rounder for him and they get to try him out for a year at a fair price before he hits free agency they’ll have first dibs- or send him to Oakland!!
    That would be fun

  10. tmaxcon Says:

Low standard bucfan scared to death of new players they have not already lost with, personality and talent… just lose quietly with no heart or passion and you’re number one with choirboy loving low standard bucfan

  11. StoutGospel Says:

The following draft picks for appropriate valuation on a DJax trade, with all teams listed having been mentioned as WR-needy or previously in on the Antonio Brown sweepstakes.

    4th Round:

    49ers – 105 overall
    Packers – 119 overall
    Titans – 122 overall
    Ravens – 124 overall
    Eagles – 128 overall
    Colts – 130 overall
Bills – 132 overall (Bucs’ preferred to Siberia)
    Browns – 133 overall

    5th round:

Cardinals – 140 overall (top of the round)
    Redskins – 154 overall

With ALL those interested bidders, if Licht can’t “talk” his way into keeping his W2 by pawning DJax and the $10 mill onto someone else’s organization, then it’s yet ANOTHER example of his feeble ineptitude.

*And no, the Rams, as I see it, just don’t have a slot anywhere for DJax, with Woods, Cooks, Kupp back from ACL surgery, Reynolds. Neah, plus his $10 million.

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  12. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

    Buh-Bye!

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Jenna’s right. Other teams surely know we NEED Djax’s $10 mil to fix other problems here & that we’ll release him. Seriously doubt we’ll get any draft pick for DJax, but Licht MAY be able to trade him player-for-player to a team with a lot of Cap space. Like say to Cleveland? For say Duke Johnson? Or maybe to the Jets or Colts or Titans?

Bucs are only 1 of 8 NFL teams whose offense salary Cap exceeds $100 mil (we’re at $114,075,782 today). The others are the Saints (at $106,657,287), the Falcons (at $102,850,648), the Packers (at $101,308,739), the Redskins (at $105,586,593), the Eagles (at $111,730,445), the Giants (112,031,152), the Chargers (at $100,747,234).

So we have the most expensive offense in the league PLUS a fairly high-priced defense (thus the horrible Cap situation) … yet we ended up with a 5-11 record. Something tells me we didn’t get our money’s worth. Just a hunch.

  14. BucEmUp 7 Says:

Why would they trade for him? He will be cut and then signed for less

  15. Mike Says:

Most expensive offense in the league?? At least it’s one of the best in NFL History- Licht’s version- kinda like that old show on Comedy Central- drunk history- Arians booze culture will fit right in- pick up Darby in Free Agency- he can be JWs wingman at these postgame benders

  16. StoutGospel Says:

You’re wrong @DR….Bucs’ will get some compensation for DJax. We’ll see.

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  17. Todd Says:

    MeJax the Malcontent

Who is now creative enough to come up with a meme?

    This narcissistic, d-bag deserves one.

Just can’t stand him. So stupid he can’t grammarically string three words together.

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

The Bucs need to be shopping more than just Djax!!!!!!!

2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Bird Says:

    Agree

Jets and colts and bills may be best options now
Especially jets and colts with around 100 mil in cAp

Especially colts who will try to make a run at super bowl this year. They can afford his 10 mil for 1 year . It is only 1 year. And Andrew luck throws a nice deep ball

  20. Kobe Faker Says:

“LOL! Jason Gump aka Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of NFL GMS vs other competent GMs of the NFL?

The competent GMS know AOC has to dump DJax to sign Tampas other players.

Hey kicker picker, we will give you a 8th round pick

    “Ill take it” AOC Gump

    WATCH WHAT KOBE STATES THIS!

WATCH! Gump is going to lose Barber when he gets cute and cheap”

    Kobe Faker

  21. Phil Says:

Maybe they can trade McCoy along with him.

  22. BucsOrGtfo Says:

Kobe Faker is a middle aged man sitting in his parents basement screaming at his computer all day

  23. Bird Says:

I don’t disagree. However , if he is cut , then DJax has control on where he plays next year. Therefore , a team (not in big city like DJax probably wants ) that won’t have a chance at him on free market /free agency unless the team overpays times 10 ; they can make sure they get his services today with trade knowing they would never get in future. A team that has no receiver like the bills. They have young qb who they are trying to groom /develope for future . He needs help. They failed on AB. And you can draft a few receivers in nfl draft. But young guys at receiver can take some time.

Plus DJax has only 1 year deal so a team can move on if he struggles. Trust me. DJax wants that 10-11 mil. He won’t get that number most likely anymore in free agency so he will put up with any team for a year. Just not Jameis.

If free agent a team would try to sign for much less and he knows that.

  24. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Given the price of the Antonio brown trade I would say a 5th might be out best offer

  25. Todd Says:

OH MY GOODNESS! Please, God Almighty, arrange for MeJax the Malcontent to be traded to cold-ass Buffalo! Word! Yo! Ssssuppl Buffalo!!!!

Break out the mink coats, MeJax is comin’ to town!

That would be priceless. Just priceless.

  26. AlteredEgo Says:

Trade….LOL….dangle…LOL….Licht will be left twisting in the wind on Dale Mabry….I hope the get something out of the situation ….G’Boyz are pissed

  27. Bird Says:

    Conte piscatelli

Love the name. Piscatelli – I once saw someone wearing his jersey at game a few years ago. That guy was terrible. It gave me a good laugh.

So they came out and said other teams made better offers to Pittsburg. so better then 3 and 5! Maybe 2 and another pick.

However , AB held all the power in where he would go. He would only go to team that redid his deal and made him high paid player in nfl again. He had no gauranteed money in prior deal. And he pretty much got 30 mil garaunteed now. Up to 54 for 3 years.

So Pittsburg hates him even more. They should have gotten more

  28. Bird Says:

But I would agree 5th May be best

  29. StoutGospel Says:

Seee….some very prudent logic being instituted by @Bird.

Well done sir. That…is exactly what a team needing/wanting DJax’s services, that wouldn’t normally be able to lure him in the open market, will do from the 4th round down. And a couple that could lure him, but want to evaluate before extending his contract. Those…are all why you trade for him, and for a player straight up, is just too arbitrary, unless there’s a perfect RG fit, which why in the hell would the acquiring team want to weaken their OLine at such a vital position with losing that starter. Nuh, uh.

    Go Bucs! Get Quinnen!

  30. Hodad Says:

Why would anyone trade for him if they know he’ll be released? So they would be sure to get him. The only team that wouldn’t is the one everyone knows he wants to play for L.A.. D Jax would go to them for less money just to stay in L.A.. Should the Eagles trade for him, I’m sure he’d be willing to keep his 10 million, and play for a contender for 2019. Same with 49ers, or let’s say Chucky wants to make a real splash, and get D Jax as his #2 with A.B.. There should be some trade partners.

  31. ben Says:

Bucs don’t have an accurate qb that can throw to a small window ((except Fritz)) so you can’t blame Djax for wanting out.

  32. Nick Says:

Traded to Eagles for a 4th round pick

  33. BringBucsBack Says:

This might be difficult but, they should ship him off to a team that has a QB who throws a worse deep-ball than #3.

  34. Ed Says:

Another way to look at it is to find a team that wants to dump a salary and needs speed. They swap player for player, the Bucs pick up a $5 million player for Jackson’s $10 million or as everyone else says a later round draft pick. Whoever
suggested Colts as a good landing spot for him is right on. Jackson on turf with a good deep ball thrower will put up a bunch of 50-60 yard touchdowns.

I think if someone watched film of him the past 2 years there were at least 6 or 7 plays that Jackson would take to the house if the ball was thrown at the right time to the right place, he literally was 5-6 yards behind the defenders but Jameis mostly overthrew him or didn’t lead the ball back into the middle of the field.

  35. StoutGospel Says:

***Attention @Joe’s–another favor done here below on content it clearly looks like is needed for continual articles until free agency–you’re welcome**

REMEMBER….JBF faithful, keep a VERY close eye on Cameron Brate between today (now) and close of business this Friday the 15th! With the 17th falling on a Sunday this year (5th day of the league year), Licht HAS TO DO something on Brate, one way or another.

Ain’t NO WAY in hell can Licht allow Brate’s $ 7 million salary for 2019 to become FULLY guaranteed by close of business Friday. For a back-up TE. a back-up TE coming off hip surgery. A back-up TE that ya know, uses his hips to turn on every play. PLUS, a whopping $18 million will become guaranteed for INJURY for 2019 if also on the roster by close of business Friday! I mean damn! Who the hell wrote that contract??!? Greenberg must have been hungover that next morning when sending Brate’s agent those terms!

    Solutions:

    1) Simply cut Brate by close of business this Friday, to avoid ALL that nonsense for a back-up TE coming off hip surgery, and then perhaps look at re-signing Brate back to the roster AFTER the second wave of free agency has finished. To reasonable terms for back-up TE’s, coming off surgery.

    2) Shop Brate to the Lions and all other TE needy teams, that might rather use their draft capital for larger priorities on Defense or otherwise, which the Lions have many needs, said their in the market for TE.

Remember, by close of business this Friday the 15th mandatorily.

If stooge Licht does nothing, and tries to somehow do nothing given the solutions I just presented…well then we all know, whom he is anyway. BUT these are facts, he can’t spin the facts, as not facts. The facts drive the need.

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  36. AlteredEgo Says:

How many of the G’Boyz dollars vaporized under Licht’s time as Bucs GM…busted players ….busted coaches….probably totals close to what the Glazers bought the franchise for

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

I agree with D.R. and Bucemup. Why would a team trade for him especially if it requires spending draft resources when everybody knows the Bucs are going to cut him and his 10 mill?

The one scenario I could see a trade is if there are several teams TRULY interested in him and one would rather lock him up rather than getting in a bidding war when he hits FA. At ten mill already though hard to imagine a bidding war driving the price up.

  38. TOM Says:

We’ll even throw in Licht for nothing. Who could ask for more?
