Fitzpatrick Weighed Multiple Opportunities

March 19th, 2019

Fitz speaks

Riding a five-game losing streak as a Bucs starter that featured him giving the football away like it was freakin’ Halloween candy, Ryan Fitzpatrick found himself a starting job (for now) and a market that wanted him.

What a country!

Fitzpatrick, if you missed it yesterday, will take his Josh McCown act to South Florida as the Dolphins signal to their fans to watch the cheerleaders instead of the football.

Fitz talked to the Miami media today and shared that he was in demand around the NFL but wanted a great shot to improve his 50-75-1 record as a starter.

“The Dolphins had expressed interest, and I’ve had some other calls for some other teams and all of them had guys that were penciled in as starters,” Fitzpatrick said. “Even though financially there were some similarities, I looked at this as a chance to play, and that’s why I got excited about it.”

Apparently with a straight face, Fitz added that he feels his game continues to improve with age. With lines like that, he might open for Freddie Martino at the Vero Beach Ramada Inn show on July 4th.

I cant underdtand this kind of jokes in fitzpatrick really. The Guy never complaint, always had the right attitude insisde and outside the Field, he had good ganes and bad games, and has been a very good buc…..
Sometimes is hard to underdtand you Joe……. the Guy was a class act in terms of being a substitute!!

  2. Slugglife Says:

Hate on Joe. He’s no longer here to make snide comments about, but he just secured his family for the rest of their lives. How about a congrats and well wishes and leave the bitterness behind. He’s no longer a Buccaneer.

  3. donuts Says:

Winston didnt throw for 4 TDs and win a game last year….something Fitz can say and Winston cannot.

You sound a bit salty (comparing him to McCown); no departing gift from magic? Its OK…I didnt get one either.

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

    LOL…what a life..

  5. BrianBucs Says:

Fitz and Winston both showed that they are quality backups, but not quite starters

  6. Not there yet Says:

He’s no longer a buc so I could care less, the nugget is he was looked at by teams with starters penciled in as he said meaning most teams see him as a backup. We’ll see ya in the preseason fitz

  7. Slugglife Says:

    Donuts

People tend to get salty when they see guys achieve what they never could. Some people call it jealousy.

Kinda like the posters here, who call guys who’ve achieved the top tier of their chosen sport “trash.” Yeah, these guys rode the pine on their high school football team on a district championship run, now they feel they can justify calling another man “garbage.”

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Fitz and Winston lead the NFL’s top passing offense and you still have triggered morons saying they stink and can’t play. LOL! Meanwhile these same idiots think Joe Flacco is an all-time great for winning a SB and Marino is a piece of trash for not.

  9. 1of1 Says:

Cmon joe, fitzpatrick wasn’t that bad. I’m not sure why you constantly criticize and belittle a guy yet protect and defend a known sexual predator.

  10. Defense Rules Says:

You seem to have forgotten Joe that Fitz gave Bucs fans something to cheer about … beating the Saints & Eagles to start the season … and almost came back to beat the Steelers too as I remember … when many (if not most) were predicting an 0-3 start to the season without America’s QB. The Bucs’ real weaknesses as a TEAM got exposed pretty quickly against the Bears’ exceptional defense in Game 4 and we struggled from then forward.

Fitz is a class act and a very good team leader. Hopefully Jameis AND Griffin learned a LOT from him during his 2 years with us. I hope he has an excellent season and I personally wish him all the best in the future.

  11. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    I am a big Jameis Winston fan…

That being said, I want to mention that I really enjoyed Ryan Fitzpatrick’s time here in TB and “FitzMagic” was really special those first 2 games this year against the Saints & Eagles. — Some of the most fun I have had as a Bucs fan.

Wishing Fitz great luck in Miami and he gives me a reason to actually watch and pull for the Dolphins this year.

    Good luck!

  12. Bird Says:

Just remember joes , Jameis 10 game road losing streak was not his fault. It’s a 12-game road losing streak. –Joe

Even though Same players around both QBs . Same defense.

But fitz 5 game losing streak is laughable to you. And apparently his fault.
    Jameis taken #1
    Fitz drafted in round 7

    Only in America
And Jameis leads the nfl in turnovers since being In league.
    Lol 😂

  13. Slugglife Says:

Hey Joe, on twitter they’d refer to this as getting ratified.

  14. Slugglife Says:

    Ratioed.

  15. Buc believer Says:

His record as a starting QB is almost as bad as Lichts record as a GM! Not quite though. Keep trying Fitz!

  16. SB Says:

JOE……..THERE IS NO RAMADA INN IN VERO BEACH!!!

  17. Loyaltotheend Says:

L b e is salty that Fitz looked better in back to back starts something Jameis has yet to do

Jameis has yet to throw for 3 or more TDs in consecutive games in over 50 starts!!!!

Oh and Jameis has lost 10 road starts… Let’s stop acting like Jameis is some proven elite qb. Jameis is a more expensive less accurate version of Fitz until he can protect the ball consistently

  18. Bird Says:

Funny that joe makes fun of a player and trashes the guys he apparently does t obsess over when they leave town.

Never would say something to them when still with Bucs or after a game. This is just ludicrous on so many levels. –Joe

We know which joe this is.
He’s about as tough as a gummy bear.

Fitzpatrick was nothing but a class act. He knew he struggled and it was Jameis turn to lead the team. And knew Jameis was in bucs future plans and not himself.

  19. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Loyal,, you are right brother that JW has not proven it yet. I fully believe that he can be elite. I really do. If he doesn’t show it this year, time to move on.

  20. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Bird,, you and I have had some arguments in the past about JW, but man your last about Fitz and his class are soooo SPOT ON.

    Very, very well said.

  21. lowercaseg Says:

Good luck fitz. Rooting for you in miami.

  22. Kyle Says:

Fitz was a class act! Classless for joe to bag on a guy that did his job, was a team first guy, and tried to make the most of his opportunities. There are only 32 qb jobs and regardless of joe’s professional opinion, fitz is a good QB. Joe how many many nfl td’s did you two guys throw? Im guessing the only thing you threw was a mcdonalds bag in the trash after eating your big mac. hehe

Winston didnt throw for 4 TDs and win a game last year….something Fitz can say and Winston cannot.

That’s great with the type of weapons he had at age 37 he threw 4 touchdowns in a game, Winston did it his second year in the league at age 21. Doesn’t mean a thing Winston got benched for interceptions last year and so did Fitzpatrick at age 37 had a turnover issue, he’s a backup with a chance to start so hope they are drafting a quarterback because it likely won’t end any better for Miami than it did for us, Miami doesn’t have 5 stud receiving options or a run game I can think of either

  24. Jamaal Stanley Says:

No word on the Penn State RB they sat wit today Joe???

  25. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

    Bird,

“He’s about as tough as a gummy bear”…

    LOL! Comment of the year.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I am also a Winston supporter…..

But, I also supported what Fitz did…..you can’t blame Fitz for the way Koetter used him.
Count me with the crowd that believes that Winston shouldn’t be rattled by a capable backup. But, I also think the QB decisions last year were wrong.

All that being said….I think it is quite petty to disrespect Fitz. He was a perfect backup….showed a positive helpful team attitude and did his best.

Joe, hopefully you’ll save your demeaning comments for those who deserve it….and there are many.

  27. Slugglife Says:

  29. VaTom Says:

Fitz, when he was good was much better than McCown. And when he was bad his personality was better than McCown, I’d rather watch him lose any day over the Clown. At least with Fitz there was a chance he was going to light it up. And he did exactly what he was supposed to do the first four games. He gave us a chance. If someone else didn’t suck so bad he never would have come off the bench again. America’s Turnover King! He won’t have competition this year, maybe he won’t get so mentally weakened with Griffin behind him?

  30. SB Says:

Seriously TBBF, the closest Ramada in to Vero is Cocoa

  31. Bob in Valrico Says:

We were 5-11. What that mean ,both QB’s ,and quite a few other players had their issues. Fitz unraveled for sure. Jameis did his own unraveling act and deserved to be benched. Heres the thing , both Qb’s had their issues with turnovers and both QB’s have a reputation for them so stop putting all the blame on Fitz.
As for the halloween candy reference , what did you call the 62 yard fumble recovery in Greenbay,Joe.

  32. K_bassuka Says:

Who cares, the POS its finally gone. Good luck ruining another team.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

The defense gave up 29 a game – that’s why the team was 5-11, not because of the QB play. This was literally the best offensive team in the history of the Bucs and dopes think the offense is what lost games. Morons.

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I think we can all agree that under our circumstances we shouldn’t be paying a backup QB $5.5M…….no matter who he is.

More power to any older player that can make that kind of money…..I rode the plane with McCown once after he left Tampa for Cleveland….and, he told me….you go where the money is at his age….no matter what the weather.

Fitz did better on that than McCown.

  35. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

VaTom,,,, great thoughts on Fitz. — You called it, man. Whether he was having a good game or a bad game… you ALWAYS felt like he could light it up…. at ANY given time.

PS…. dont give up on JW yet, brother

  36. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Well said, Rod.

  37. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

    Joe’s,

Definitely not liking all the hate for Fitzy. He’s a class act and played just as good, if not better than the crab handler. Joe has no hate for Fitz whatsoever. Lotta people like to read between lines things that aren’t there. –Joe

    You’re better than that Joe(s)

  38. BringBucsBack Says:

I won’t pile on Gummy Joe, enough here have done so already. I guess objective journalism is not synonymous with joejameisfan.com.

The views expressed in this comment section I am sure reflect that of the greater Fanbase; that is that, we liked Fitzgerald the man, his professionalism & effort on the field which, are comparable (& often greater) to our little man-child, “franchise” QB! #3 has made himself difficult to route for, for conscientious people. Unfortunately he gets the benefit of the doubt(s) due to his draft position. Talk about a country!?

  39. Buccaneerscotty Says:

If Fitz doesn’t deserve to start you definitely don’t deserve this crusty web site ! I’ll take fitz over you anyday! You just don’t like the fact Your girlfriend Winston couldn’t beat out an average back-up! Cry baby cry lol what a joke!

  40. martinii Says:

Enjoyed a few good weeks with Fitz, little humor, Little team spirt and some happy fans. Then reality set in. Good luck Fitz, keep the beard and thanks for the breath of fresh air.

  41. catcard202 Says:

FitzMagic will play just well enough in 2019 to hold the MIA QB1 seat warm for ~7-9games…Then he’ll be in FitzMentor mode to the Rook taking snaps for the Fins, trying to hold onto a 2020 roster spot & retirement check.

  42. Dapostman Says:

    What catcard202 said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Fitz is not a starting caliber NFL QB. He’s a good backup and a quality teammate and mentor. I wish him the best.

  43. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

If the Dolphins are trying to “tank for Tua”…. then signing Fitz was a mistake. He is going to win some games. And I will be watching and pulling for him.

  44. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    BringBucsBack,

You are SPOT ON in the fact that most of us have huge respect for Fitz, and will be rooting for him.

No reason to make it about Jameis, though. I fully believe JW can still be elite. Dont pull the plug on him just yet.

    GoBucs

  45. Bucnjim Says:

Fitz is what he’s supposed to be. A stop gap QB that will at least give you a chance every week. Players and coaches love him and that’s half the battle. Class act and I will always remember that the most fun I had in the entire 2018 season was watching Fitzmagic.

  46. Jean Lafitte Says:

SMFH …and in the meanwhile the Dolphins work towards a playoff birth while the Bucs are in the race to secure the best pick in the 2020 draft. …again

    karma Joe karma

  47. jerseybuc Says:

Why the Fitz hate? The only time most of us felt any good at all about our team was because of HIM. He melted down vs the Steelers, but he got us off to a great start. By the way, he also had a LOT of help in playing poorly, but while he got benched, many of the other under achievers on the Bucs continued to play poorly all year long. Fitz was hardly the main problem last year.

  48. Bucnjim Says:

If McCoy gets traded and Winston flops I hope some of the guys on here invested in Viagra! It would be sad if everyone lost their hard 0n permanently because of a couple NFL players!

That being said I’m for Winston to finally grow up and lead this team

  49. Ruby Reddress Says:

When you are yesterday”s news (as in what have you done for me lately) this is the kind of low class behavior that shows up. Show a little class Joe and wish Fitz well. Shame on you!

  50. DBS Says:

Munch you better go back and look at the scores. Averages don’t work. Winston lost 2 games when the defense gave up 20 or less.

  51. ben Says:

Fitz had a better completion % then Winston …but make your excuses for Winston who’s qb rating is way below even average by the nfl… love is blind.

  52. Oneilbucs Says:

    Cause he’s white.

  53. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Fitzy is/was probably the best backup in the league. Just say no to Glennon…too many bad memories there…

  54. Bob in Valrico Says:

Just one of the many reasons we were 5-11. The offense only scored 3 Td’s
compared with 7 INT’s in the third quarter of all our games. Sluggish starts in the third quarter is not the time to take break. JW- 0 TD’s and 5 INT’s. Fitz- 3 TD’s
and 2 INT’s. . Grabbing the momentum in the third quarter and sucking the life out of the other team eliminates the need for furious comebacks in the fourth quarter, IMO.

  55. Ndog Says:

  61. stpetebucsfan Says:

    NDOG

I agree with the vast majority of your posts. It’s only your JW love that throws them off target.

First “some” folks are only making observations not rooting for JW’s failure. Those are two distinctly different things. BTW again I disagree with many of those observations just like you.
But I DO understand their concerns. Until JW proves himself which I think both of us believe will happen this year…snide observations will continue.

I certainly concede that some here will root for their predictions more than any player or team…some here are self proclaimed football savants so they have a LOT invested in what are only opinions at the end of the day.

  62. Adrnagy Says:

Fitz May well be a great guy off the field or on the field but he doesn’t have a winning attitude. Kind of Eli. I’m glad he’s gone.

don’t pay a fortune to a back up that might be stabbing the starting qb , better yet use the back up qb money to protect the starting QB.

  63. Tbbucs3 Says:

Here’s the thing with Fitz that many anti-Jameis haters don’t understand….Fitzmagic is good for lighting it up approximately 2-3 games per NFL season….that rapidly dies off and he becomes Buffalo Bills Ryan Fitzpatrick which consist of yards and interceptions.

  64. Eastsidebuc Says:

SMH. The privilege is real, trashman just collecting checks for garbage.

  65. Bucsfan77 Says:

I agree that Fitzpatrick was a good back up, and I also agree that Fitzpatrick was always showing a positive character in all things media and news…. Honestly, this is probably the best article written in the past few months. Especially that last paragraph.

I gotta applaud the fact that Fitz wants to compete but I wouldn’t be surprised if Flores just tries to win with his defense, ala Tony Dungy.

  72. Jeffbuc Says:

Man you guys are sensitive today. Joe is just calling it like it is. That he is amazed that this guy like Josh McCown Keep getting paid a lot of money. To come to a team and play some up and down football all year. We all know they are not full time starters they are spot starters. But every year teams keep paying them to come start or be there gap qb. He’s not saying he is a hotrrible person. It’s pretty simple no matter how good of a guy you people think Fitz is. He is going to lose a team more games than he will win them. Didn’t take this as disrespectful just calling out his numbers here and record and that yet still someone pays him to come be there starter.

This same Joe gushes about Jameis as “America’s QB” and “pro bowler”. When in reality Jameis is a pro bowl alternate with questions to be answered in year five.

Additionally, this Joenprodes themself on “objective” journalism.

Just like Hump & Kwon, Fitz was a FA that we lost….and he did receive a $5.5 mil contract…….
We may get a higher round comp pick for the loss….but the system is very complicated and it will depend on the other FA signings we make vs. the losses.

Chances are we either won’t get one or it will be a late rounder.

Lost a lot of respect for the Joes after reading this low class attempt to grab more clicks. It’s cute to say “grab more clicks,” but Joe is simply taking the news of the day (Fitz having multiple offers and meeting with media) and sharing Joe’s opinion. Same thing here since 2008.–Joe

  82. ModHairKen Says:

Hey Joe, Fitz >= Winston. So we’ll await your similar trashing of the not-even-in-the-same-league when it comes to being a good person Jameis. Anything less, and your feigned Fitz-hate exposes you as bogus.

Now, it’s Jameis’ turn to show some ‘magic’.

This entire article, especially the last paragraph, reeks with bitterness. Now Joe, I understand bitterness as that is how I feel about the Glazers. But the Glazers are getting wealthy from the heartbreak of this community. All Fitz did was stake us to. 2-1 record during Winston’s suspension. He is an overachiever and a good teammate. Through your words you have made it evident you resent him for getting a shot at a starting role. That, my friend makes you less credible
This is so silly. Joe is Bucs fan. Fitzpatrick came, did his best, and moved on. Joe doesn’t have to play cheerleader for the guy. He tried his best and fell apart after a great start. Joe wishes more guys tried as hard as Fitz. It’s a hell of league in which a guy can be so bad and still get shot after shot. You’re the one taking that as some sort of resentment from Joe. It’s just not the case. –Joe

  96. Widerightandleft Says:

Fitz was a class act and an able backup ,however after the way Koetter used his qbs last year the bucs really had no choice but to let him go elsewhere.
Jameis has some to prove this year.Hes great from the athletic stand point of his game. But obviously needs to be coached up to be good and dressed down when hes not.Hes got more weapons than most teams with the exception of a quality running back.
I have a feeling that its make it or take it elsewhere next year for young Jameis.

  97. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Fitz sucked as a Buc. Worst QB in Bucs history. He can take him and his korry blanco and get the heck out of town! 3 great moves by the Bucs. Bumphries is out, FitzTragic is toast, and MeJax is history. Addition by substraction. Now if we could just get the Jameis and GMC Bashers off of here, this site and everything else in the world would be right.

    😂 😆 😝 ^^^

    Thanks for the laugh, JameisAlmighty!

2019 or bust for Licht and Jameis! Can’t wait! 🍻

  99. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Fitz was a trash act. Trash player who got hot for 2 games and ruined team chemistry. He will lead the league in picks and the Dolphins will continue to be trash😷. The dumpster fire is burning hot in South Beach 🔥

  100. Jameis Almighty! Says:

2019 is it for Licht. Jameis will be a HOF Buc before it’s all said and done. Idiots like you and your fellow Jameis Bashers root against the Bucs. Get off this board with your nonsense

  101. FairMinded Says:

    Zero articles today? That’s a first :/

  102. Dom > Licht Says:

. Jameis win / loss record damn near same % as Fitz… no body is bashing evidence of poor play is there your just to blind to see. Don’t blame team or defense the same excuses can be made for Fitz or any other sub .400 QB !

  103. Destinjohnny Says:

Fitzmagic is on par with jameis
    Don’t shoot the messenger

  104. cmurda Says:

Ok, next article Joe. Something about the two young ladies that are now assistant coaches for the Bucs. You know the National media will have a field day with this. I could just see it now. ‘While Head Coach Bruce Arians builds a diverse inclusive staff, here lies Jameis Winston who has no respect for women’. Sure, it would be all B.S. but this sells and the media is all about sales.

  105. SteveK Says:

    JameisAlmighty,

How can you literally blame Fitzpatrick for Winston’s suspension? Fitz did the best he could do- and it was as good/better than we’ve seen from Jameis in years.

I hope Jameis clicks this year and lights it up. He has the talent and for all accounts he seems like a passionate, team player. I just question the decision making piece.

^ Pump up the volume, test test 😉

  108. Stanglassman Says:

Anybody else getting concerned about the Joes? I’ve never seen this website go dark a day much less for two days.

  109. CharlieB Says:

I thought I was stuck on a cached version for a second. I’m honestly surprised there’s only a couple comments.

  110. crazy Says:

My RSS reader picks up several new posts that load when selected but don’t appear on the “Fitzmagic” home page. Must be something wrong with the home page updating when new stories are posted.

  111. crazy Says:

You can also click through to newer content on the next story link at the top of the page.

  112. CharlieB Says:

The home page loads fine in Chrome (just tested).

  113. cmurda Says:

‘Here lies our beloved Joes. These were good dudes. Somehow they were taken from us way too early. They had a passion for Bucs football and like thousands of us, a profound fondness for pain and suffering as they endured nearly 2 decades of pathetic, inept Tampa Bay Buccaneers football’
Join me fellow Bucs fans in a moment of silence.
    LOL — Joe

  114. MadMax Says:

Alright, dont know whats going on….my phone is loading all of the new stories after this one but my computer wont go past this story.

Whats going on Joes? ive never seen this happen.

  115. Greg Says:

Are the Joes ok? I have not seen an update since 3/19.
You might want to refresh your browser or try a new one. LOL –Joe

  116. cmurda Says:

Oh crap. I thought there were no more articles from the Joes since this one. On chrome this is the last story. I just opened this JBF in Microsoft Edge and there are several newer stories. I continue to have this problem in chrome like several other people.

  117. Vegaspreneur Says:

I didn’t see any new articles either since March 19th. So, I switched to Firefox browser and new articles were there. Wasn’t working on Chrome. Might wanna check on that Joe.

  118. TonyC Says:

    What’s up with the website?

  119. Jameis Says:

Not seeing new articles on Safari either.

  120. MadMax Says:

Alright….type joebucsfan in a google search and in the results, you’ll see “recent posts”…click on that and all the new stuff shows.

  121. cmurda Says:

Gentlemen, I don’t know what happened but I cleared my cache in Chrome because I hate using other browsers. Since then all of the new articles are popping up and so far, so good.

  122. BucNole Says:

Yup Safari doesn’t see the new content
Any idea what happened to cause this???
