Big Jameis Coming In 2019

March 24th, 2019

Lean Jameis will give way to beefy Jameis

Josh Freeman was best when he was at his biggest, so why not America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston?

Big Jameis is the goal for 2019, so says Jameis. He delivered the news to the beat writer for pay-per-view site TampaBay.com, Rick Stroud.

Jameis says he’s a solid 250 and very happy about hitting that mark the right way, per Stroud.

At the NFL Scouting Combine in 2015, Jameis checked in at 6-4, 231 pounds. More muscle, man weight if you will, and Big Jameis is coming to the Den of Depression. Freeman was 6-6, 248 pounds at his combine and ballooned up to about 270 during his dominant 2010 season. Joe fondly remembers former Bucs center Jeff Faine talking on local radio about how Freeman was totally addicted to Taco Bell.

Whatever makes Jameis feel comfortable is fine with Joe, whether that’s more muscle and/or a less intimidating backup QB, Joe’s good with it.

Great……now Jameis can block for himself….or, better yet, make a yard on 3rd & 1.

  2. Lubby Smith Says:

    I blame Byron Leftwich.

What’s next, lengthening the throwing motion?

  3. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Jameis should be utilized as a tank-runner like Cam Newton, an extra FB if you will. When you see Cam in the pistol on 3rd and 1, it’s almost always a QB-keeper up the middle for an easy first down. Why not Jameis too?

  4. Rob Says:

So Rah Rah is big boy now lol. Hopefully that’s not a beer belly. Oh yeah, Rah Rah stopped drinking… allegedly. Go Bucs!

  5. DooshLaRue Says:

…….. well, now that he can afford to buy the crab legs….. it was only a matter of time.

  6. Easy Says:

IDGAF what he does to his diet. He needs to cut down on the INTs and fumbles or this team will continue to suck.

  7. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

There have been a bunch of videos of him working out and the dude looks like he lost weight. He definitely doesn’t look like he’s 250, he looks lean.
He probably noticed they haven’t signed a RG and decided he better bulk up because the hits are coming.

  8. ATLBucs Says:

That’s not what I saw on the video a couple of days ago. It looks like he lost weight unless that was the last year video. But the title of the article was Jameis is thinner. Oh well.

  9. scbucsfan Says:

Joe could announce ticket prices were gong down and beer was reduced to $1 and 1/2 the posters on this blog would complain.

  10. El Buco Realisto Says:

Who cares, dude folds like a lawn chair every time when it matters!!!!!!!!!!!! The only constant is how he has let down the Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

    “A less intimidating backup QB”

    LOL

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Doesn’t matter what weight he is. What matters is between the ears.

  13. Cobraboy Says:

So Winston had a Cheeseburger off-season.

    Lucky guy.

  14. BucHead5588 Says:

I seen videos on Twitter Jameis May have added Muscle but he looks way Trimmer he has lost a lot of Fat so he might be 250 but I’ll tell y’all he looked Good quicker an leaner so IDC

  15. OneBuc55 Says:

Jameis definitely has the frame to get bigger; as long as it’s good weight I think it’s a good idea…

Like someone said earlier, maybe he noticed that we haven’t made any upgrades on the offensive line; he thinks he may need the extra insulation…

  16. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

    Cheeseburger Winston..

  17. AlteredEgo Says:

I don’t care how he looks….it is ALL about delivering in 2019 ! No Excuses…I wish him all the best…Go Bucs

  18. Not there yet Says:

Dough edged sword because if he’s running for his life again he’ll have plenty of weight to absorb the blows but won’t be able to escape as much if he’s slower

  19. JimmyJack Says:

This is the one position Bruce Arians can help with coaching that will immediately get us more wins……..You guys wanna complain about the roster and say it’s not good enough to win with. Look no further then the QB position. If Bruce gets full potential(Pro Bowl caliber play) from his QB this team will have no problems winning football games.

  20. JA Says:

Now why would Jameis give Rick Stroud the time of day? If memory holds true, Stroud wanted to run him out of town on a rusty rail after the Uber incident.
Then again, maybe he did give the selfserving “journalist” the time of day—an ill-researched one, much akin to the stories that come from Stroud’s keyboard.

  21. DooshLaRue Says:

Just don’t fill up on all them Ws Jameis……..

  22. #1bucfan Says:

    Jimmy jack agreed fully

  23. JimmyJack Says:

JA that’s cause Stroud is the top day at ole One Buc.

  24. DooshLaRue Says:

Joe could announce ticket prices were gong down and beer was reduced to $1 and 1/2 the posters on this blog would complain.

It would still be Bud Light…… so yeah sc…. you are correct.

  25. ATrain Says:

Don’t care how big he is

Joe can we call this the PROVE IT YEAR

    OR NO EXCUSES YEAR

    LOLLLLLLL…I know it’s a typo….but I spewed all over my keyboard…

  27. BucEmUp 7 Says:

Give the man a decent defense and some freedom to audible at the line of scrimmage ore snap and he will be better. Handcuffed with a bad defemse spells bad news for qbs

  28. Jamaal Stanley Says:

☺️that was funny Doosh.. But this is what you all are not getting about his play this upcoming season. When asked on NFl network Carson Palmer stated under BA’s tutelage Jameis will be taught exactly “where to go with the football” in BA’s offensive system. This the secrect behind the QB whisperer. Getting to the end of your drop and knowing exactly where to go and what to do in the event it is not there makes you more an extension of the HCs mind than just a typical QB.

  29. Jamaal Stanley Says:

It has been tried and proven. Tim Couch was left for dead and BA made him look good. Ask yourself.. How.

  30. Jamaal Stanley Says:

I personally felt had BA gotten Carson a few years younger together they might’ve gotten it done i.e win a Super Bowl. Y’all can say what y’all want,BA looking at Fameis saying to himself “this my one last shot at it”. Make no mistake #3 about to ball his @$$ off.

  31. Bucnjim Says:

This article is kind of disturbing for most men anyway. Does he need a blanket and a teddy as well to make him feel comfortable? Does he need to collect action figures and wear a robe to practice? Sorry that’s a different player! Does he need to be coddled or have everyone tell him he’s special when he’s not? Every single good job in America has competition but we need to take away his because he can’t concentrate? Real men and leaders do not need to be coddled! We handle our competition by producing without excuses.

  32. Bucnjim Says:

Joe’s for someone who has built a business from the ground up and faced all kinds of competition and obstacles you should be the first to call foul! Who was holding you hand through the tough times when you wanted to call it quits? Competition either makes you strong of makes you fold. It has nothing to do with physical make up but everything to do with mental fortitude. Sure. But everyone is different. If Jameis is a guy who thrives without a strong backup, nobody will care that he’s weak in the over-the-shoulder department. Whatever works is what Joe cares about. There are no style points. –Joe

  33. Bob in Valrico Says:

Not sure why Jameis would want to put on more LB’s. He seemed quicker and more elusive last year. When Spence started experimenting with his weight it didn’t bode well. 225-235 seems like a good weight to me. Even then ,I remember Mcnabb seemed to wear out during TO’s time there. If he ‘s planning
running more he may get the same results. This is florida and the heat can take a tollon you.

  34. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Jimmyjack-

    To your point about Jameis,
This is the year for Jameis to win
$200 + million sitting on the table
    QB whisperer as your coach
So what’s it going to be? 15 interceptions and 5 fumbles and more 7-9 BS?
Or is Jameis going to finally show why he was 1st pick in draft?

  35. Grt1 Says:

You misunderstand that a competition between two QBs isn’t anything new. Jameis doesn’t care about competition, it’s that Koetter did everything thing he could to save his own hide. Fitztragic played good for 2 games then played like himself. BA doesn’t want a divide locker room that’s caused by not having a solid 1. Remember Jackson wanted Fitztragic because he forced him the ball.

  36. El_Buc941 Says:

Does this mean he wont move as fast in the pocket and be able to run like we’re use to seeing him do?it could be good and bad. He may be slower but harder to bring down one on one.

  37. straightcashhomey Says:

I think you all missed by far the biggest development, in this here article.

The @Joe’s decided to act very professional and ya know….cite the guy that has come up with at least 4 separate offseason “breaking” news stories, that no others have locally, for the objective record, in Rick Stroud. I know over the past few months, several on JBF have commented on, and taken issue with those squabbles, irrespective of grounds or supposed justification.
    Well done @Joes.
Way to go Rick Stroud. All should keep pushing for the breaking story, irrespective of name or affiliation.
Really not sure what you’re talking about. When something is out there about the Bucs that interests Joe, then Joe writes about it. That’s been the formula here since 2008. It also helps when Joe finds the info to be credible. Lots of people “break” Bucs news. About 97 percent of fans couldn’t care a toot about who did or did not. –Joe

  38. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

Every off season it’s something new with JW.

Last year was pushing trucks around.
How’d that work out on game day on the field?
    Thought so.

    Now the weight thing.
How’s that going to work out?
    Heavier / Lighter….who cares!

What matters is has he improved his mechanics, has he improved his field vision, can he now read defenses quicker, has he improved not staring down his receivers, has he improved holding on to the ball and not fumbling, has he improved throwing the ball away instead of taking the sack, blah, blah, blah, on and on…….

Why get caught up in this truck pushing, weight bearing, using video glasses (remember those?) all this CRAP that DOES NOT make a better QB.

Please JW, put the time in on the stuff that counts ON Game Day ON the Field.

  39. Ndog Says:

So I guess for all you complainers you would have preferred him to not work to get more durable and better overall? You people truly disgust all true Bucs fans that actually want the TEAM to succeed.

Jameis Bashers will find a way to knock Jameis… lol

  42. SenileSenior Says:

The Jameis Winston I saw did finally “turn the corner” in his career. That’s what I thought I saw in the last five games of 2018. He grew up finally this past season.

Bruce Arians (via Christensen and Leftwich) will help him elevate his game.

I predict 30+ TDs and 10 INTs for Jameis. Bucs go 10 and 6, make it into the playoffs and win at least one post season game this year!

How’s that for a waayy to early prediction?
    ________________
    Go Bucs!!!!!!

P.S. Winston will have at least one successful QB sneak this year. 🤩

  43. BigMacAttack Says:

Bucnjim I think you described GMC more closely than Jameis.

  44. BigMacAttack Says:

Last year Jameis was on a vagin diet and now he’s eating meat again.

  45. BucEmUp 7 Says:

Just becuase you dont like Jameis, shouldn’t mean that you want him.to fail. I’d think a “fan” would want to encourage success rather than beating the guy down considering his defense has always given up such an abundance of points on sundays it has been near impossible for him to even sniff a winning record or play conservatively.

Be patient and let.good coaching work with him

  46. Anglican Says:

Instead of Jabbo he can now be called Jumbo

  47. SenileSenior Says:

Finally, Joe, I am a one of those fans who “couldn’t care a toot about who did or did not” get the scoop either.

I spend zero $s at Tampabay.com just as I do here. Thanks for the update.

    Go Bucs!!!!

  48. Jeagan1999 Says:

Thank God we have rid ourselves of those “intimidating” back up QB’s! We wouldn’t want any of our players feeling pressure to perform better.

  49. BuccOff Says:

Actually 3% of fans could “give a hoot” about who doesn’t “break” Bucs news. But I suppose that work ethic explains landing Rachel Watson, or doesn’t it. 97% of us afor actually work for a living, and the only parallel to that in the journalism parlance, is actually BREAKING news, that gas been credible, all the time. Local reporters for the LOCAL team, offer their worth in having greater entrenched connections that provide daily original evidence of…news. Not re-reporting everyone else’s work. Now, writing Ty Pennington and his bandits’ pieces for a failed/closed newspaper….ain’t it. Whatever you’re talking about is a mystery. Joe operates by a very simple and non-traditional approach; a big part of that is a belief that fans are best served with a wide variety of coverage about the Bucs. When Joe was just a fan, Joe just wanted information and opinions and entertainment. That’s what Joe tries to provide here without regard to notions of how media should operate based on outdated thinking. As far as “re-reporting,” a lot of fans don’t realize that Joe is often thanked by reporters and columnists for sharing their work. Joe is often asked to share.–Joe

An over-tanned, balding, overweight Jersey-looking transplant sitting in the Bucs’ auditorium during Bucs’.com press conferences on their website, certainly doesn’t set the standard on journalistic best practices, for sure. And see, that’s the root of it right there. The lack of work ethic to pre-eminently run the Tampa Bay area for all breaking Bucs news, the lack of persyasion for all else, the ill will toward other locan Bucs journalists who might break Bucs news without that kick-backed nonchalance. Ain’t enough page views here bt far, for that. Joe has never had an interest “to pre-eminently run the Tampa Bay area for all breaking Bucs news.” Therefore, there is no work ethic for that purpose. Is that a problem? Does Joe have an inherent responsibility to do such a thing? For years, the founders here had other jobs outside of JoeBucsFan.com. Joe’s very content with what is produced here, and that’s always been the only standard. Joe’s just glad and grateful tens of thousands enjoy it daily.–Joe

  50. D1 Says:

    GRT1,

The only problem with your summary is jameis said , Fitzpatrick’s fast start and unreal stats was an issue. Say what you will , but Winston himself clarified the matter.

Also, Fitz turning back to himself is a pretty ridiculous and possibly the dumbest comment to make about the situation. I get that it’s just an oft repeated slight and it’s not something you thought of, so it’s not on you. Nevertheless, it’s just another shot at Fitz, but it’s a backhanded , unintentional as it may be, indictment on Winston’s play. Which is no doubt not what you’re thinking.

  51. T REX Says:

Fragile psyche. Here we go again…last xyz games if the year Jameis finally played well. Look for that Winston next year. Total BS. I cant wait for all the winstonites to get off the buc bandwagon.

  52. D1 Says:

    Jamaal,

What’s we’re not getting! Sorry, but you didn’t discover the holy grail in those comments.
We get it, get that it’s …….a throwaway comment that on its own is no more insightful than the message in a fortune cookie.

You really think winston didn’t know where the ball was supposed to go at the end of his drop?
I’d you do, man this game is way way over your head. ..

  53. Rod Munch Says:

Fat Freeman was a great QB, and the fatter he got the better he played. I think he maxed out around 290lb – then Schiano kept calling him a fatso and so he went, got addicted to something, and came to camp the next year with a six-pack.

All I want to know is what was he taking that allowed him to sleep like 70lbs over a summer AND get a six-pack when he looked like a sumo wrestler just a few months earlier.

If anyone can name what he took it would be interesting to know. Just asking for a friend.

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It’s worth mentioning that the !ast time we saw mention of Jameis bulking up with muscle and losing fat was the 2017 off season after his talk with Russell Wilson…and the result was injuring his throwing shoulder in game two.

  55. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

We certainly don’t want Winston to be pressured by a good back up QB !!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! He’s so freaking fragile…..He’ll never get to a Super Bowl. Ever. Book it.

And all Bucs fans can’t wait till we have more fans that actually understand the game and can talk about it intelligently, unlike yourself.

  58. Owlykat Says:

You may remember I complained when Jameis came back bragging about having lost weight to run faster and my worry he would get hurt and not as easy to fend off tacklers and not be able to do QB sneaks in short yardage. The great thing with BA is he coached the Pittsburg QB who keeps his weight up and it is rare when a tackler can get him to the ground without him getting the ball off. Jameis is doing the right thing getting his weight up! I don’t believe in not having a competent QB backup. But I still believe his backup will prove competent if he plays; unlike Sack Magnet Glennon!

  59. D1 Says:

    TREX,

Winston has the only bandwagon to jump on. You want to see him failing so you can enjoy the spectacular views of the crash. And won’t it be satisfying to give the winstonites that …I told you so……..yeah it will be super sweet if you’re a complete pu..y.

    NDog, lol…really!
