Adarius Taylor Gets Paid By The Browns

March 13th, 2019

Payday for No. 53.

It’s hardly as sexy as all the other Browns signings this week, but amidst all those big names, Cleveland plucked a Bucs starter today as the free agency dinner bell rang.

Taylor started 10 games last season for the Bucs and played in every game, except for the one he skipped because his wife was supposed to have a baby. He was a holdover from the Lovie Smith regime.

Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot says he scored a two-year, $5 million contract with a full year guaranteed. That’s decent reserve money, so good for Taylor.

In related news, Joe would type up the looks of the Bucs’ linebackers depth chart, but Joe doesn’t want to upset the masses around dinnertime.

    In Jason we go 5-11

  2. Wesley Says:

    I’m jealous of Cleveland………..Cleveland!

  3. Locked In Says:

Good for him, he played well for us. This is a significant loss. Hope we can replace with equal or better.

  4. Atlbuc28 Says:

With the 5th pick in the 2019 NFL draft.. welcome to Tampa bay Devin White

  5. Doctor_berto Says:

Please no LB at the top of the first. This is a defensive line first round

  6. Deez Bucs Says:

Imagine this dude’s smile going from Bucs to Browns. How exciting for him.

  7. 813bucboi Says:

    good for taylor…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  8. pick6 Says:

i’m guessing Monken stumped for him as a special teams\reserve standout. The browns are where the bucs have been in so many previous years. They can pay 30-40% more than the cap strapped teams and not bat an eye. They’ve got 2 years before it all comes home to roost and your draft picks need new deals, but they’re pressing their advantage while they can. It comes down to whether their GM can size up Free Agents in a way Licht never proved he could

  9. jerseybuc Says:

My lasting memory of him is trailing Evan Engram on a 70 yard pass in the final minutes of the Giants game. Mediocre talent.

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Taylor went with the team who was going to pay him more and..Good for him!

  11. Getaclue Says:

Eric Berry is being released . Could end up winning by waiting but I doubt it. Dude will probably be in LA or New England

  12. NPRSageBoy Says:

I don’t want to make “Licht” of the situation, but Buc D remains in rough shape. Thanks, Jason

  13. Figures Says:

The Bucs are gonna be TERRIBLE this season lol.
    TERRIBLE

I said 6 wins last year and it was 5 with a better roster. Now the roster is worse lol.

This roster plain sucks to look at.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

Someone’s been doing lots of research in Cleveland. ….and spending like hell too.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

    AtlBuc

I certainly get your logic but not sure that’s going to happen for a couple of reasons.

Three of the biggest mock drafts have QB’s in the top 5. Two of them have Josh Allen falling to us at 5. Not sure the Bucs want White more than Allen. And Joe would lose his mind. LMAO

So if we have targeted White and again I understand your logic, then it depends on what kind of riverboat gambler Licht becomes. In 3 mocks I’ve seen White going at 8th…11th and 17th. If Licht believes he can trade down and pick up more picks he may roll the dice.

Whatever…this draft will have a lot of drama and entertainment value for Buc’s fans. It’s pretty dang exciting and as one writer pointed out…we are going to get somebody who is very talented.

IMHO I’m for packaging player(s) and multiple picks to get Allen at 5 and move back up to also get White. What a draft that would be!!! All of the sudden our defense gains credibility and talent for Bowles.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Have just a bit of patience…..we have a long way before the final roster is complete……
Fans scoff at a player like Minter….but he may surprise…..looked pretty good the couple of games he played last year…..and I expect an improvement at RG……

  17. Mitch Says:

I don’t think anyone has a clue what’s going on but BA and his staff. I’ll reserve judgement until week 4 of the season.

  18. scbucsfan Says:

Coleman to the Niners. All eggs in Barber basket. Eek.

  19. Figures Says:

While you all are saying be patient or reserving judgement I’ll go ahead and say it.

The roster is worse and this team WILL SUCK AGAIN.

  20. BOD24 Says:

Just heard the Bucs are holding an introductory PC for Deone Buccannon and a kicker…. A KICKER… sorry fellas but this is just going to be more of the same

  21. StoutGospel Says:

Josh Sitton on a 2 year deal at RG….

Get it done Licht! And CUT BRATE by Friday night!!

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  22. Bird Says:

Ted Larson May be next player. ?

Right guard Former buc. Former arians guy.
So Bucs can go defense with 1st four picks. At least first 3

And maybe hunter renfrow Or running back next.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I can’t blame fans for being disappointed…….day after day….high-profile FA players have been dangled in front of their face…..even today….complaining we didn’t give up a 2nd round pick for Dee Flowers…..failing to put in the article his salary of over $17 million.
Knowing the word was we were keeping McCoy (still don’t believe)…….it was purely simple math…..we can’t afford to bring in top players or even one….
We also could afford to keep some of our own.
    WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?
We have to let a player like Taylor go so that we can pay Peyton Barber & Co……
    Suck it up!!!

  24. Kyle Says:

hard to believe that we are better right this moment than we were when the
season ended. I dont trust licht, not sure how BA is going to “rel oad” with this S**T show of a roster. Lichts an idiot, should of dumped mccoy, among others, and at least made a run at a corner or linebacker. This is a total rebuild.. we dont even know if the QB can play consistent for 16 games do we?

  25. Chris Cotten Says:

I’m going to Vegas in 3 weeks and I’m putting some cash on Cleveland for the AFC North and a little on winning the AFC championship

  26. Jmarkbuc Says:

Whoever orchestrated Clevelands salary cap is a freakin genius…

Multiple first round picks in recent years..quality players and they have the money to throw around like a drunk at the Mons Venus and we ain’t talking $1 bills either.

Cleveland looks to be loaded, and we need a new front office.

  27. StoutGospel Says:

    @Bird…

Ted Larsen went to the Bears today.

Maybe Lynch and the 49ers aren’t too confident in Jerick McKinnon’s torn ACL recovery????

Could he be cut loose, but would the physical check out enough, for a 1 year prove-it’s-healthy low deal for McKinnon??! Better than Barber, that’s for damn sure!

Go Bucs! Land Quinnen! Cut Brate by Friday!

  28. Chris Cotten Says:

And I’ll also put a C note on my Bucs to win the NFC South

  29. Kyle Says:

not sure cleveland south is going to be appropriate anymore. More like “same ole bucs”

  30. Tbbucs3 Says:

With this roster….the Saints are gonna Pass all over us…..the Panthers will overpower us….and the Falcons will do what they always do to us. 5-11 here we come!

  31. Kyle Says:

tbbucs3.. love your optimism.. 5 wins may be a stretch..haha

  32. TOM Says:

Need to sign Shagull Barrett, and/or Jamie Collins LB & possibly DT Brent Urban. Shouldn’t be to expensive. Of course trading or releasing McCoy would help a lot. Right now the Bucs are just treading water.

  33. Buc4evr Says:

Meh. Addition by Subtraction, Taylor wasn’t a starting caliber LB. We went 5-11 two years in a row with these guys, get them out of here. This is not going to be a reload its going to be another rebuild.

  34. Pryda30.... sec 147 Says:

Sign a veteran CB please and ty oh maybe Eric berry

  35. Easy Says:

Another average player out the door for a bad defense. Good riddance’

  36. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol the photo shows him giving up a TD pass. This is literally no loss whatsoever.

  37. Buc4evr Says:

Addition by subtraction. Part of the worst defense in history. Flush him down the toilet with rest. Nobody’s job should be safe.

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol Chris Cotton gonna put $100 on the Bucs winning the division. In poker we refer to that as setting money on fire. I feel it is my fiduciary responsibitily to not do some that idiotic.

  39. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    To tell you

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Apparently this website is just as much JoeBrownsFan as JoeBucsFan this week. 😉

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“In related news, Joe would type up the looks of the Bucs’ linebackers depth chart, but Joe doesn’t want to upset the masses around dinnertime.”

I could swear one of the Joes already did.

  42. Chris Cotten Says:

    Touchdown Tampa Bay,

I’m also a poker player, and have had some very good runs, but I will always support my Bucs

  43. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Bonzai

Look what the Brownies have done in essentially two years versus what Gump has done…

Hard to believe he could be this inept..

    Then again..It’s a Bucs life.

  44. jjbucfan Says:

Taylor sucked last year so whatever, should go back to Glanton. We don’t even have enough money to fill out our roster this year. What the hell do we have to show for it?

  45. rrsrq Says:

Deeper defensive line draft than LB, get White in first, OG in second and DL in the 3rd, hopefully find a vet CB during preseason cuts or a trade

  46. Adrnagy Says:

    Shane Ray

  47. adam from ny Says:

    that’s wild….

we sign bond, but let glanton go…wild !

  48. Lunchbox Says:

I’ve been hearing a lot of hate (justified) for Licht’s moves the last few years. But I’m reserving judgement this year, cuz I have a feeling Licht this year is no more than a puppet, and Arians is pulling the strings. I think all the personnel decisions will be made by Arians and his staff. Sure Licht’s scouts will get scouting info, but Arians will make the final decision, including who to take in the draft. Just a feeling.

  49. Defense Rules Says:

When you make out your Linebacker depth chart Joe, keep these stats in mind:
    o Kwon … IR – 10 games.
    o Beckwith … IR – 16 games.
    o Bond … IR – 5 games (Questionable – 1 game).
    o Bullough … IR – 7 games.
    o Cichy … IR – 10 games.
    o David … Out – 2 games (Questionable – 1 game).
    o Minter … IR – 3 games.
    o Taylor … Questionable – 1 game

So our studly LB position group missed 51 games on IR, 2 games Out and 3 games Questionable. The ONE LB with the best availability … Adarius Taylor … was let go to Cleveland for $2.5 mil per year AFTER Licht signed a perennially injured #4 WR for $4 mil. Right now we have ONE starter (LVD) & TWO bonafide depth players (Minter & Buchannon).

Yo Jason, you continue to impress me … UNFAVORABLY.

  50. Kord Says:

Everyone acting like Cleveland is gonna be good, can’t wait to see obj throwing kicking nets in week 5, Unrein gone, Gholston needs to be traded or cut, maybe Allen too, Devin white flying around ray jay go Bucs!

  51. Not there yet Says:

Taylor was garbage and fans are whining about losing players we expected to lose. After the season they wanted a purge now crying about freaking Adarius Taylor, you cannot make this kind of stuff up. Browns have been way worse so have their first round picks finally the roster is shaping up for players they won’t have the space the resign unless their qb ends up a bust

  52. joestang Says:

Cleveland is a good example of what a good GM can do for you. We are an example of what a POS GM can do.

  53. Kord Says:

If 80% of people on this site were our gm they would run this team into the ground even deeper than we are now. Why are people jumping on Cleveland’s nuts like they will win the north? Bucs bounce back, have to remain positive

  54. JimmyJack Says:

I’m betting the under hard on Cleveland. I’m no shark but betting against the hype has been one spot I have found success.

Also, y’all are jealous of the Browns ahahahahaahaha.

  55. Adrnagy Says:

Jason Licht extension is coming at the end of the season. We make playoff
    10-6.
3 teams of our division make it.

  56. Buccaneerscotty Says:

All I can say is Devin white at #5 !

  57. DooshLaRue Says:

I like Cleveland. As a lifelong Bucs fan I can’t help but to root for them….. plus they have ugly uniforms too.

But, to all of you fantasy warriors who live for stats alone, adding up sheer numbers while not factoring in chemistry etc. I’ll say this…….

If the Browns don’t win at least 9 games this year then it was all a bunch of off-season hype.
Remember this, because a lot of you are way too quick to anoint greatness or failure based on fantasy numbers.

There’s a hell of a lot more to it then that.

Don’t forget ……. you have to subtract for Divas…..

  58. scbucsfan Says:

I didn’t see any of these so called Buc fans crowing about the Browns for the last couple of years. Same posters who will put a Bucs bumper sticker on their car soon as they turn things around, saying they always had the teams back. In other words, losers.

  59. BucHead5588 Says:

Cleveland looks like rams last year

  60. ElioT Says:

No worries, we have Devonte Bond, who looks like slightly oversized safety who has 36 career tackles!

I think the Bucs are looking to add LBs, and OL in FA after all this madness of redicilous contracts dies down.

    Still…

A lot of needs on this team. A lot.

  61. cmurda Says:

Laughing at the negative Nancys on here. It’s March and the sky is falling for many of you. Simmer down now. Let things play out. All of this jealousy with Cleveland is laughable. Just wait until Baker’s inconsistency has OBJ whining like a 2 year old schoolgirl. I’m not going to say the Browns don’t look stacked but I’ve seen plenty of teams that had unmatched talent and the wins did not come. There will be changes. McCoy will either restructure or be cut and then I see a restructure or release of Brate. This will free up enough money to sign an impact free agent, but probably just one. I’m going to predict that is Ha Ha Clinton Dix. Dude is solid and is still only 26 years old. Hey, the majority of you complain that Licht is terrible at picking the right free agents. The same people on here complain when he doesn’t sign free agents. Come on.

  62. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

The Browns defense IS stacked couple that with a strong run game oh AND best WR tandem in NFL, actually best 4 options in NFL, lookout

  63. JimmyJack Says:

Cmurda……..I love the Clinton Dix idea but what heck happened to him in Washington? They traded for him now they don’t even want him back? He’s also not even a Frontline free agent which is a steep decline from his GB days.

Seems to be a couple red flags there.

  64. JimmyJack Says:

Dusthy it is not the best WR tandem in the league. That title is only reserved for those who have proven and earned it ………..possible best? Absolutely. Just like Mike Evans and Djax was a few years ago.

  65. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Wonder if BA wishes he chose the browns now as that was his original choice of only place he would go. And yes the Browns have best group of WRs in the NFL, w OBJ, Njoku, landry and calloway

  66. cmurda Says:

You’re not wrong JimmyJack. I don’t understand the dropoff either but I’d be happy if we landed him simply for the sake of his pedigree.

  67. Jonzey Says:

After letting Kwon go we need to get White in the draft at 5 he is a beast

  68. Adrnagy Says:

@Dusthty…. bandwagon ?? You talk tooo much of them Browns. Go bucs!
I’ll take my boys Evans , Godwin , Howard , Brate , bobo and yes Perriman over any combo in the nfl. Browns are lame. Not with earl thomas and steel city are they gonna win the afc north. It’s like us 😞 here with the saints , panthers and falcons the last couple of year until now , this year we have the qb whisperer and Todd.

  69. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Ardnagy, this is a 5-11 roster that got worse… licht has had 5 years to build a champ, dorsey has built the NFLs best defense, the bucs have ZERO identity going into 2019…. wheres the no risk it no biscuit? trade brate trade gmc trade jpp… time to risk it

  70. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Actually, I look at Cleveland in an entirely different way…….I hope they succeed and if they do….so can we.
Why would you not root for a bottom dweller to rise….

Go Browns….Go Bucs….down, down Saints…..down, down Falcons, down, down Panthers……

  71. Ndog Says:

Wow I didn’t know that the season started tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up Duthsty.

  72. Adrnagy Says:

    @clevelandBrownsfan ** oops tampabaybucsfan.

Man… it takes a free agent for folks to jump ship!

I live in Los Angeles and every year I go to see my bucs regardless of our record. Gone thru the downs and ups for 30 years. Never have I looked at other teams and wished them glory. We need hungry , loyal players like we do need fans.

  73. Howard Cosell Says:

    glazers are shameless carpet baggers

  74. Rod Munch Says:

    $2.5m/year? Wow, that’s way overpaying.

Maybe they saw him get juked out of shoes by Baker Mayfield in that Cleveland game, and said that’s what we need here in Cleveland, someone to make Baker feel good about himself. LOL!

  75. “That guy” Says:

I’ll take Eric berry at safety, word on the streets is he is available.

  76. Joe Says:

I’ll take Eric berry at safety, word on the streets is he is available.

    He’s toast.

  77. Cobraboy Says:

Meh. A lot of guys can run under kicks.

  78. Stanglassman Says:

I keep waiting for any of the Bucs sites to write an article of how the ODB trade shook up the top of the draft and how it effects the Bucs pick.

Because of this blockbuster trade I think there’s about a 50/50 chance that Josh Allen or Q. Williams drops to #5 now. Could the Bucs pass up on Q. Williams for a trade down or take a DE Burns/Sweat, LB Devin White? If that 2nd Qb isn’t taken before 5 will the Bucs trade down with the Gaints #6 or Miami #13 to prevent another team taking their choice at Qb?

  79. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Stanglassman, not sure how the OBJ trade has any impact but I think 49ers getting Dee Ford gives me hope they won’t take another pass rusher which would allow one of the big 3 to slip to us. Boy that would be a dream come true.

  80. Stanglassman Says:

Alaskan- I agree that the Dee Ford trade will shake things up too. It makes it more likely that Josh Allen falls to 5 instead of Q. Williams. NY basically blew their whole team up and now they need to rebuild. They have the firepower to move up and get their future Qb and even if they don’t the threat may make a team like Miami want to go up to get a Qb in the top 4. Also Nobody knows what to expect from Gruden. One thing they do know is he’s not happy with Carr and loves him some Qbs. Most of the new mocks out have 2 Qbs going top 4. Qbs trend up draft boards not down this time of year.

I’m torn between Allen or Williams. Hopefully we’ll have a choice of one of them. D. White or a big trade down package and B Burns would be a hell more of a consolation prize. Licht going to have a hard time screwing this one up.

  81. Pete I Says:

“we don’t even know if the QB can play consistent for 16 games do we?” Well…actually we do because he hasn’t!

  82. Pete I Says:

“Licht going to have a hard time screwing this one up.” Have faith, he certainly can screw this up!

  83. Bucsfanman Says:

We lose a back-up, special teams playing LB and people are losing their minds! LOL!
The whole defense had to be torn down and you know it. The question is simply, where do you start to rebuild?
We need help on the D-line, LB, CB, and S and we have little cap money. Losing Taylor is the least of our worries.

  84. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Jmarkbuc Says
    “Bonzai
Look what the Brownies have done in essentially two years… ”

And yet they still had to fire their head coach.

Fairweather fans always think overspending in free agency works, and yet time and time again it doesn’t, with very rare exceptions.

  85. Bucsfan77 Says:

We may have a lot lower scale of talent on this team but imho the better coaching will more than make up for the lose of talent

  86. buc15 Says:

He could play all LB positions. We are going to run out of LB on the roster soon
