Trey Flowers A Potential Option

February 20th, 2019

Might escape the Belicheats.

So Joe’s dream of seeing the Chiefs get stupid and let defensive end Dee Ford leave seems to be up in smoke.

And it appears to Joe other defensive ends who are soon to be free agents like DeMarcus Lawrence and Jadeveon Clowney won’t get away from their respective teams either.

Joe wants a pass rushing specialist in the worst way to be terrorizing Bucs opposing quarterbacks for the next 8-10 years.

Now earlier this week watching NFL Live on BSPN, former NFL suit Louis Riddick, who Joe likes a lot, was of the belief that Belicheats defensive end Trey Flowers might be left unprotected. Riddick sang the praises of Flowers, who turns 26 in August.

Is Flowers really that good? He’s never had double-digit sacks in a season in his career, including playoffs. Best Joe can tell Flowers may have had his sack totals diluted by playing often inside. The spreadsheet crowd, though, lauds him for his consistent quarterback pressure and he has been strong in the postseason.

The thing that scares Joe about Flowers is, aside from not showing he’s an elite defensive end, Flowers obviously was coached up by one of the best that ever lived in Bill Belicheat. Was his film and play exaggerated as a result?

And of course, as Riddick said, the most important position on defense is a pass rusher because that is the only guy who can affect a game these days. Why would Belicheat let such a valuable guy go then?

Something about this Flowers spooks Joe, but of course, he’d be an upgrade over Will Gholston, that’s for sure.

He may be able to get some team to pay up to 15 mil per season.

    Bucs can’t hang with that

  2. 813bucboi Says:

    i agree joe…..

i would love for him to be a buc but teams dont let good players just walk especially pass rushers unless its about the money….

maybe the PATS are in a pickle because they have to choose between trenton brown and trey flowers and thats why they let him walk(ie. money)….

the pass rusher im hoping we land is frank clark but idk if seattle lets him go….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. 813bucboi Says:

but if we do land trey flowers, i think bowles will put him in position to be successful….

Fast Pass. Flowers is the same kind of trap you all fall into every year. A fringe player who belongs in the below average category.

I’ll put it this way. If he is signed by Tampa, then a year from now you would all be hating on Jason Licht for giving you what you want…just like every year.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Better to draft Defensive Line this year. Let the idiot teams over spend in Free Agency on them…it will give us more options in the draft.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

BTW, DeMarcus Lawrence has said he will refuse to sign the franchise tag if they try to use it again.

Whether this is true remains to be seen, but last year a player did sit out the season over the tag, and DeMarcus Lawrence may just be willing to do the same because he’s young and has plenty of years left.

  7. R.O. Says:

Are we really going to list every available FA you want the Bucs to sign then next year at this time complain how they didn’t produce or the Bucs over paid.. etc etc. Yadda yadda yadda.. blah blah blah.

  8. Robert Says:

    he’s 26

    call us in 6 years

Okay, I don’t want the guy, but this sort of statement bugs me.

If it were another top coach, that statement would not have been made.

For example, Carson Palmer. I don’t see anyone saying Arians exaggerated his stats. Arians coached Andrew Luck too. I don’t see anyone claiming Lucks performance was exaggerated by Arians being his coach.

The opposite bugs me too. A coach being exaggerated by a player he had on his squad…for example: Mike McCarthy having Rodgers on his team.

People always assume one made the other look better than he was. It is just as possible they elevated each other and both are great.

    But in this case?

    Flowers is a dud anyway.

    Per @Joe..

“And of course, as Riddick said, the most important position on defense is a pass rusher because that is the only guy who can affect a game these days.”

That statement, as written and stated, is false. A fast unblockable push up the middle is FAR more effective, just ask Mr. Brady and Aaron. Brady often talks about, and had his worst statistical games by far, when there is a DT push up the middle. DE’s can’t get there in time with Brady’s quick release of the ball, and A-Rod’s too. DE’s are important, sure, much more so than LB’s, or more than shutdown CB’s absolutely.

The statement “the most important position is DE…because that is the only guy who can affect the game these days”. Not even close, see Donald, Suh is his hay-day, Watt, Sapp, on and on.

Here’s the proof….Quinnen Williams up the middle, or Josh Allen at the End. Quinnen Williams up the middle in Brady’s grill??…or Nick Bosa coming around the corner as Brady or A-Rod get the ball gone before they reach them?..that’s it right there.

    Go Bucs!

Bonzai- what are you even talking about? This kid is no dud. If he were, then why would Bill draft him and then, why would he produce at a high level? He’s a high motor guy that used to cause a lot of havoc in the SEC.

I’d take him if you can get him.
