Report: Arians Has Staff In Place

January 8th, 2019

“It’s all yours now Bruce, including DeSean.”

UPDATED 7:32 p.m. – If one is to believe a well-plugged-in NFL reporter, new Bucs coach Bruce Arians already has his coaching staff filled out.

Though names are still trickling in, including Todd Bowles as defensive coordinator, via ProFootballTalk.com, Albert Breer of theMMQB.com believes the first task of the new Buccaneers coach is complete.

Attractive to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht or attractive to Team Glazer?

Clyde Christensen returning to the Bucs frankly scares Joe. He was the quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator for Father Dungy, and Joe is pretty sure most of us remember what a drag that was. You might remember, Christensen was the same offensive coordinator who couldn’t find a way to score one touchdown in three straight playoff games.

In Joe’s eyes, the best deal would have been if Todd Monken stayed on board and Byron Leftwich would have worked specifically with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Eh, guess you can’t have it all.

  1. The Buc Realist Says:

Glad to see the Glazers learned a lesson and did not wait around to getting people hired!!!!!!!!!!!! Bonus points for getting two token interviews done, and now need to quickly put the coordinators together so they can start evaluating and turning over the roster that was obviously not good enough!!!!!!!!!!!!! then months later joe and the sheep will have finally recognize the truth as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Buc believer Says:

I believe it! Dude comes prepared!!!

  3. AleteredEgo Says:

    Jameis…is is certainly out of his comfort zone….all new personalities …new terminology….new playbook….new offensive philosophy….maybe thats a good thing…

  4. Iron Wombat Says:

That was a long time ago though

  5. james west Says:

    happy days are here again

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Didn’t Clyde Christensen go to the Colts from Tampa and end up doing pretty well?

Regardless, he won’t be the OC. I’m more concerned with Byron Leftwich being the QB Coach…a former QB who had bad mechanics.

Still, people grow over time. Clyde Christensen and Leftwich probably did as well.

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

“Make BA as comfortable as possible with a past experienced staff when he does his major and most important work

    Take Jameis to another level

build his mental/emotional game and fix his his mechanics

he is his last student and BA is the teacher

If JW clicks…we win and everything will work around that”

  8. buddy Says:

All of KLUELESS KOETTERS staff MUST GO!!!!!!!!! Including the support staff. That’s the majority of the problem.

  15. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    BTW

    GET RID of CANCER93 BRUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. BucEmUp Says:

Is Buckner staying. I will be surprised if they don’t find a way to keep Monken, I think he would be a greta value guy to have around. Perhaps future head coach down the road in 3-5 years.

  17. AtlBuc Says:

Joe, like you said in an earlier article, Arian’s OC might just be a figurehead

  18. DB55 Says:

    Joe

Agree with you Monken could have stayed with no issues from us. Who’s the DC? Personally I’d take Rex Ryan over Todd Bowles but wtfdik?

  19. Dreambig Says:

    Tmax,
You beat me to the punch.

Cheers to all! Its the best time of the year to be a Bucs fan! Let the off- season hype begin! I have been sucked in for days now.

  20. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Bruce Arians can make Jamies a franchise quarterback

  21. Mort Says:

Byron Leftwich coaching Jameis would be like Lee coaching Ira! Just ridiculous.

  22. Buc believer Says:

Cmon Tmax you gotta be a little bit psyched for this next season! Let’s keep a positive attitude for at least 8 games.

  23. Ray Rice Says:

Bet a dub we won’t see the Benn’d around.

Tampa……….the place where good coaches die!!!!!!!!!!!

Well this is the first good coach we’ve had since dungy and gruden. So that’s not an accurate statement.

  25. James Walker Says:

Nugget of Trivia. Clyde Christensen had a higher PPG average than Gruden.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

This deal had to be done in principle at least a month ago. Before Koetter went they likely had a verbal and Bruce kept Licht in the front office.

  27. ModHairKen Says:

Come on, Joe. Don’t you think Clyde has learned something since he left? You’re already second-guessing Arians?

Besides, Monken needs to go. The Offense piled up yards but not points. And passing yards mostly. How much less time would the Defense have been on the field with a decent running game?

  28. Waterboy Says:

Who is he bringing in as OC? I see a QB coach, passing game and running game coordinator but who will be the play caller since I don’t think Bruce will be doing it.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He’s a Cancer survivor, so that’s good news for TMax!

Passing Game Coordinator…that;s not the same as Offensive Coordinator, is it? Sounds like maybe they might hold onto Monken.

  30. Buccaneerscotty Says:

    Leftwich is a good coach.

  31. Dom is gone ... Licht Says:

BRUCE please keep Jason from blowing another draft! OL 1st round!

  32. TexBuc Says:

Jameis out of comfort zone and new personalities?

Koetter was the lone dissenting vote on drafting Winston before the 2015 draft. The last two seasons really showed Koetter’s lack of confidence in Winston. Winston being able to play for coach who believes in him will make all the difference. Arians has known Winston since high school. Arians also runs a variations of the 4 vertical offense koetter ran, but Arians has demonstrated the ability to call and design plays around his players strengths.

  33. UnderMeBucinHat Says:

    LoL Tmax good one

  34. Anonymous Says:

Joe I agree with you they should have kept Monkens as the OC. Now Bruce need to go out and get Bell now or maybe Kareem Hunt they can get him at a very reasonable price that’s if the Bucs are trying to win and turn things around.

  35. Bucsfan951 Says:

I guess you can call me cautiously optimistic. I’m not drinking the koolaid this time. I’ve been kicked in the nuts too many times by this team.

  36. Jeffbuc Says:

Wow we have a legit coaching staff now. I don’t have to google the coaches to see there middling records with second rate college programs. I can’t wait to see there talent evaluation and see who gets the boot quickly. Bruce seems like the coach that has balls and won’t let players walk all over them and then reward that behavior with naming them team captain. He seems like he would call out Brent Grimes and desean. And say Gerald McCoy needs to play better we’re paying him like a dominant defensive tackle. He has to play like one for more than three plays a game. And the players no there jobs will be on the line with no starting positions given before training camp.

  37. tmaxcon Says:

    Waterboy

Do you even know who buce arians is????

  38. Rojas Says:

Can we please change the Uniforms now

  39. Buc89 Says:

Nut punch week 4. Lol, great post tmax

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

4 year deal with a 5th year option.

  41. cmurda Says:

We aren’t done even finding out if Monken will be a Head Coach. Arizona did the McVay wannabe move and hired Kingsbury. Clyde will be there in support of Arians anyway as is Leftwich. Arians is running this offense.

  42. Kgh4life Says:

    @tmaxcon

So, who would you have hired for the Head Coach position?

  43. BigMacAttack Says:

I don’t care who his staff is. I’m keeping an open mind and will reserve opinion until we see the results. I like Bowles and fans have been clamoring for 3-4 defense for a long time. Either way, I don’t care, but you have to start winning. Stats and names don’t matter, just wins. You win and we’re happy, but this fan base can’t take much more losing.

  44. DP Says:

Sure, Bucs O sucked but Father Dungy and Legacy Rich brought no one for the O except Meshawn to Tampa and though I love him at USF, Shawn King was not a franchise QB…so, let’s trust CBA to mentor, oversee and delegate as necessary while CTB runs D ala Monte and Gruden in our Hey Day! GO Bucs

  45. Buc’nIrishman Says:

I’m sorry I can’t provide the link. Been bouncing around the inter webs. Lol. I read somewhere that as we all know Bowles for DC. Leftwich passing game cordinator, will be run game cordinator and Bucco Brucesaid he will do the playcalling. Guess we will see. Let’s go free agency and draft.

  46. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

Hey! Clyde Christiansen went on to be Peyton Manning!s OC in Indy when they won the Superbowl, right?

Whose proud of me for getting through that entire sentence without busting out laughing?

  47. Go Bucs 72 Says:

So you’re telling me Clyde Christensen has not learned anything new since the 90’s….great take Joe.

  48. Mikiebucsfan76 Says:

I am waiting to see what the rest of the staff gonna look like. who’s gonna be a candidate to take over as HC when Arians retire. I like Bowles but he didn’t make a good HC

  49. kennys Says:

hey clyde was with dungy when colts won the SB

  50. old time buc Says:

Let’s give him time to get settled in before you start bashing and dissecting all the moves he hasn’t made yet!

  51. Greg Says:

I highly recommend A Football Life – Bruce Arians on YouTube. We got a GREAT coach and great man!

  52. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

Bruce Arians is ready to turn this franchise around!

  53. Jason Says:

I was rather five when Tony Dungy took over so I can only imagine everything you guys experienced. Maybe just making him a quarterbacks coach and not the offensive coordinator tied will produce a different outcome.

Wow Dude are you for real. your whining again like a little whiny ho.
Would you like to get into a little more detail and explain how this equipment manager and staff have ripped apart the buccs

  64. webster Says:

    @ joe

Actually clyde only had one playoff game as OC. Mike shula was ’99, les steckle was ’00 and clyde was ’01. And now he is only asked to be the qb coach. Im sure he has learned a lot since ’01. Give him a chance.

  65. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

Guess he couldn’t pry Freddie Kitchens away from the Browns. He will probably end becoming there head coach then.

  75. SkBucsFan Says:

Does anybody remember when the Bucs hired Koetter ? Most were excited to see that he brought along Mike Smith as Defensive Coordinator. How did that work out? I am cautiously optimistic and hope they can all improve the team. But I will believe it when I see it.

how many playoff wins does this franchise have in the last 16 years????

they must earn it on the field on Sundays. no free passes but thankfully for the glazers there is a plethora of low standard bucfans who buy into this crap every offseason just to get nut punched by week 4. it’s a buclife.

free advice, leave your safe space and join reality. it’s really not that scary.

  82. lambchop Says:

As long as BA is the mastermind behind the offense, then I’m not too worried about CC. But, yea I’m not elated CC came along with the party instead of retaining Monken. Let’s see what happens. I’m not so sure this is going to be a run away success. I won’t be surprised if we see a 7-9 or 8-8 turn around. Not exactly something to get all hot and bothered about. But, I’m hoping for the best.

Does this mean players like David Johnson, Honey Badger are in play for the Bucs? Then I’d be geeked cuz we need an upgrade in talent. Justin Evans is average. Jordan Whitehead is promising. Maybe a scheme change and coaching could change things around.
