“Jameis — It’s Jameis”

January 18th, 2019

Bucs OC Byron Leftwich.

If the crowd that cannot wait to run America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, out of town is not yet satisfied that he is the starting quarterback after the staunch defense of new Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians, new offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich put the issue to bed.

When asked today in his introductory press conference if was important to know who the starter is versus having two, Leftwich left no doubt after interrupting the reporter.

“Jameis,” Leftwich said and then waved his arm parallel to the podium as if to say, get away from me with that noise, and added, “It’s Jameis.”

Leftwich has been an admirer of Jameis for some time, he said. Leftwich was a member of the Steelers when Jameis played his first college game at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh against Pitt, when Jameis damn near threw a perfect game completing 25 of 27 passes for four touchdowns in a 41-13 win on national television.

Leftwich said he told folks who were around a table with him watching the game that Jameis “had a chance to be special.” Now, some six years later, Leftwich is Jameis’ offensive coordinator. He is “excited” to be able to work with a quarterback with the skillset Jameis possesses.

i have a new love and respect for Mr. Leftwich…. And I learned today he has been black his entie life. good to know… Jameis and leftwich are going to make the haters eat so much crow. it will be enjoyable watching them choke.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

I don’t want to run him out of town….just WIN games….and play anywhere close to his hype….

I had no idea eating W’s was a skill set.

  6. Season Is Over Says:

Did Winston bring that swag back? Yes, the haters that have watched this organization destroy itself will eat so much crow when the team wins games like a normal team. Lmao. Applauding average is commonplace around here.

    reading comprehension ?
I’ve have been critical of Jamyth’s flaws in footwork and accuracy …neither of which have improved in his 4 years in the NFL…both are so basic to playing the QB position at every level and are something he ,the most NFL ready QB in his draft class, should be working on,on his own . Jamyth has not improved any of his flaws, which are the same he had at FSU…one would have to be blind not to see these and the complete failure to correct

  8. TexBuc Says:

The difference in Winston’s 1st and 2nd season with FSU was the OFFENSIVE LINE. 1st year given an above average line Winston was able to go undefeated and win National Championship/Heisman. 2nd year playing with below average line his turnovers increased but still went undefeated until the National Championship game which FSU lost.

  9. Joe Says:

    reading comprehension ?

Reading comprehension Joe’s ass! 90 percent of your posts are “He sucks… he sucks… he sucks… he sucks… he sucks… he sucks… he sucks… he sucks… ” You’re more repetitive than a freaking rap song on a permanent replay-mode.

Then you invent sh!t like he can’t hit moving receivers. LOL!!! Either you are more clueless than a nun in a whorehouse or you’re blind as a bat and cannot watch games.

Don’t pull this con you have no desire to see Jameis wearing another uniform other than the Bucs tomorrow. Joe is convinced you’d try to punch Jameis in the face if you ever met him. You’d take Mike Glennon over Jameis in a heartbeat.

Your stance on Jameis is no different than TMax’s blind hatred on GMC.

Don’t try to pull this nonsense you’re behind Jameis if the Bucs win. Bulls(p)it!

  10. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Joe n tmax y’all got me crying in laughter calling out altoego like that 😂😂😂

  11. Phil Says:

That was a great game. Since the night I saw that game I wanted Jameis to be a Buccaneer. I couldn’t be happier that Jameis is our quarterback and we have quality coaching on offense & defense. Can’t wait for the season to start.

  12. AlteredEgo Says:

You could not be more wrong Joe….I don’t use the “suck” word…ever
They ain’t no hope in football and Jameis is running out of time and excuses…I’ll be a happy Bucs fan IF Jameis can play the QB position in the NFL at a level anywhere close to his hype

  14. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

  16. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Joe laying the hammer today!

    I love it!

  17. WalkdaPlank Says:

I actually DO want to “run him out of town” as I personally don’t believe he is a franchise QB. Just my opinion. However it is obvious he is going to be the starter next season so I want him to succeed, because if he loses that means the Bucs lose. He’s been granted a 5th season to prove himself something not every 1st round QB gets if he they haven’t already established themselves as elite.

He should have no more excuses this year. Either he blossoms into a franchise QB (finally) or he doesn’t and is sent packing.

I’m in favor of both scenarios.

  18. Lord Cornelius Says:

Dude says “reading comprehension” to suggest he’s some objective QB scout of Jameis Winston and it’s nothing personal; then goes onto use the insulting “Jamyth” nickname he loves. lmao.

  19. Panhandle Buc Says:

I love it Joe and yes I believe it’s probably clueless as a nun in a whorehouse and not blindness.

  20. Season Is Over Says:

Haters? Why would anyone like Winston? Is it the way he tanked the season with his suspension or all of the wonderful moments of glory he has brought the organization in his four years of leading this team. Has anyone ever read the comments on an article outside of Joewinstonfan.com? That is where you get the real public sentiment.

  22. RustyRhinos Says:

Wow Joe really. And you beat the drum every Jamise Winston post with “America’s QB” 100% of the time and preach how he was the most NFL ready QB to come out in years. Well news flash most NFL QB regularly hit there recivers in stride in the hands nearly every single throw. So when we all watch the QB’s playing this weekend can we have a comparison of where they placed the ball, is it 2′ over the head of a 6’5″ receiver with basketball jumping abilities, or just outside his wingspan, or where he catches it and gets nailed at the catch. I do not not want Jameis Winston to not be a success. But what I see him do compared to Brady, Brees, Mahones, Goff. He ain’t there with his “ball skills” he can’t compare to how those QB’S throw it to their receivers. You know where they can catch it and run. Rarely has that been on display when Jameis has been on the NFL stage. We have seen him display lots of foolish mistakes with where he throws the ball, like into triple coverage, when there is a wide open player. It is not like he has only did this a few times. It happened again and again and again.

  23. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Season Is Over

Whenever big names like BSPN, Sportscenter, or the NFL make a social media post about Jameis Winston, all you see in the comments is opposing fans making fun of him eating W’s, stealing crab legs, or talking about ubers.

  24. AlteredEgo Says:

    Logical decision-making
When we use logic to make decisions, we seek to exclude emotions, using only rational methods, and perhaps even mathematical tools. The foundation of such decisions is the principle of utility, whereby the value of each option is assessed by assigning criteria (often weighted).

    Emotional decision-making
Common emotional decisions may use some logic, but the main driving force is emotion, which either overrides logic or uses a pseudo-logic to support emotional choices (this is extremely common).

    I evaluate Jameis logically……

  25. Alanbucsfan Says:

I love Auclair because it’s cool to have a French Canadian on the team
I love Bullough because he looks like Joe Dirt
I love Humphries because I can fantasize him winning SB with Brady

I hate Jameis because I wouldn’t want my sister to marry him
I hate DJax because he wouldn’t kiss garbage coaching staff ass
I hate Licht because he hasn’t fixed the dumpster fire yet

B: Random angry sounding joebucsfan posters.

I cede the floor back to group B. Good luck with your arguments.

What’s it like being really wrong A LOT?
Is it just in football knowledge or do you stay consistent in all areas of life?

JW has improved in almost every metric in every year in the league. He’s gotten quite a bit better on the 7 drop step and then climbing back up in the pocket with the ball kept high and tight.

He lowers his shoulder still on short dropbacks because I don’t think he’s as comfortable (YET) with the lack of spacing a 3 step drop provides.

Arians routinely runs minimum 5 step drops on most plays which will aid JW a lot.

If the Bucs give JW some competence at RG, RT and (YES) LT – my bet is we see an improvement on the short drops as well. JW got into the habit of lowering his shoulder due to having to run for his life to avoid constant pressure.

  33. tmaxcon Says:

    aceinthehole

I’ve always supported jameis. Its the career losers that have held him back from day one.

  34. BucsBandit Says:

I love how anyone that criticizes Jameis Winston and think he’s overrated is a “hater.”

    FACTS:

    1. Winston is NOT an elite NFL QB. He is NOT a winner at the NFL level. His turnovers, bad decision making, and happy feet in the pocket have cost the team many wins. He also lacks deep ball accuracy and all the analysts know it.

    2. Winston HAS had moments of solid play. But he rarely does it for an entire game. How many LEADS has Winston had the Bucs with at halftime? I’d love to see that stat for his 4 seasons so far, it must be abysmal.

    3. Winston has some decent production STATS, but anyone that can’t admit that quite a bit of it came when the Bucs were down 2+ scores in the 2nd half and defenses were player softer coverage is lying to themselves.

    4. All the “potential” in the world doesn’t mean a thing if you can’t put it together and CONSISTENTLY perform and win games. THIS is why many Bucs fans don’t like Winston.

Joe is living in DENIAL with his unwavering man-love for Jameis Winston. Winston doesn’t need more homer-love, he needs BRUTAL CRITICISM. Not just of his off-the-field stuff which he has certainly had, but his ON FIELD performance. The only way he gets better is for people to start being brutally honest about his under-performing gameplay.

Sorry, Joe, you’re WRONG about Winston. He has yet to prove he’s an elite NFL QB.

Calling Winston “America’s QB” is like calling this web site’s 1998 WordPress design “modern.”

You are just one of many butt hurt babies that will be choking on crow and jameis winstons success. You would not recognize a good qb even if you walked in on farve banging your girlfriend or boyfriend

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

JW has charisma. He likes little kids. He’s got a cannon arm. He’s a tough dude who while slow is still effective running the ball.

I’ve had two issues with JW…on the field his lack of consistency and seeming inability to process coaching. The final six games of the season I thought he showed us what he could become…and again those two freaking TD bombs to ME and Godwin in the edge of the end zone revealed a spectacular talent.

Character is the second issue for me…I got past the FSU stuff…the he said she said and all the juvenile stupid stuff.
Arizona was harder for me to swallow…but we have and so it’s time to move on!

On a later thread I explained the value of character to TMAX. Pointed out a couple of SB’s where players were literally suspended or disappeared the night before the big game…

or a franchise QB who was suspended for three games to start a season….character or yet another immature mistake? We’ll find out this year.

JW has gone a long way to redeeming himself. I think he gets it now. His play has improved. It SHOULD be Jameis this year.

I think we ALL know…Jameis included…one more off field adventure with a woman and JW is gone. JW you’re making freaking 20 MILLION this year…hire a really great security firm that send a couple of guys with you when you go out…eliminating ANY chance of gold diggers setting you up.

EVERYBODY has cell phones with video…just can’t mess up any more in public.

  39. Lord Cornelius Says:

“I submit Jameis’s body of work in the NFL….”

That’s what we’re talking about lol. That’s not an argument.

ESPN even had Jameis ranked 8th in total QBR for 2018…

and lmao at “FACTS” that begin with a complete opinion as their #1 fact.

Apparently “all the analysts know it” except for idiots like Bruce Arians. Would love to see you break down film with him lol.

  40. Neal Says:

Joe, I have been coming to this site for close to a decade and have read thousands of your articles, but that reply to Altered and Tmax was probably your best writing to date. Keep up the good work sir!

  41. Lord Cornelius Says:

“How many LEADS has Winston had the Bucs with at halftime?”

I don’t know but the Bucs were top 11 in 1st half scoring in 2018.
They were 12th in overall scoring in 2018. So that narrative doesn’t fit.

In 2017 it was 26th and 18th – so slightly tilted towards 2nd half scoring.
In 2016 it was 22nd and 19th – pretty even scoring both halves.
In 2015 it was and 16th and 20th – more scoring in the 1st half than 2nd.

So basically that is bullsh1t. 2 of the 4 years Jameis has been here we’ve averaged more points in the 1st half than 2nd half. 1 year was about even. 1 year we scored slightly more in the 2nd half on average.

If we didn’t have leads at halftime, it wasn’t due to some scoring disparity between each half. I can remember a LOT of games where our D gets shredded for 20-30 points by half time. Regardless of what our O does our team is f*cked if that happens.

Let’s see how this spins into a new narrative and negative slight against Jameis. Because we all know that’s the type of response we’ll get. No one will just say “Oh sh1t really I was that wrong about that?” lol

Typing in all caps doesn’t make things a FACT

  42. JimmyJack Says:

Winston will never get credit from all the fans til he wins. Arguing about a losing QB is futile.

  43. tmaxcon Says:

Why the double standard??? Cancer93 has been a loser his entire career yet the nuthuggers attempt to defend the indefensible daily

  44. JimmyJack Says:

I don’t defend McCoy. I’ve never thought much of him since his rooke season to be honest.

But you don’t seem to understand the game much if you don’t realize the QB position is judged on wins and losses moreso then any other position.

As far as the McCoy nugglers go……they wouldn’t exist is their weren’t so many haters. Lots of different types of fans dude. Some take it wrong when their players are trashed.

I don’t really care. Arguing is entertainment to me. Especially with the narrow minded Gerald haters. I see right through you guys…..You dreamed McCoy would be the next Sapp and he broke your 💓. You haters are a very simplistic people.

  45. WalkdaPlank Says:

    tmax

    Franchise records LOL

I’m SO thrilled that Jameis can compete above the likes of the great Vinny Testaverde and legendary Josh Freeman. I will give him credit for it tho, I never said he was a BAD QB, certainly the best one this franchise has had. But holding up, what, TWO Bucs passing records to proclaim he is a franchise QB? That’s like saying he’s among garbage, but at least he’s at the top of the pile.

You’re the one who’s always saying how historically horrible the Bucs have been, so shouldn’t it have been no surprise to see a No.1 overall pick, Heisman winning, National Champion, only lost one game in his life before coming to the Bucs, highly NFL-ready touted QB to break the records of those “horrible” QB’s?

    Come on now tmax

  46. Dapostman Says:

    Winston has never had

    1) a talented roster

    2) a head coach with a winning resume

If Winston plays like he did the last 6 1/2 games and the roster improves with a new HC and OC i can see Winston in the top 10 of QB’s. Some guys just can’t look at his body of work objectively.

  47. tmaxcon Says:

    JimmyJack

All i deeamed was that cancer93 earn his 100 million and be able to play 4qtrs. He did not accomplish either.

  48. Defense Rules Says:

I’d love to go back in time & look at all the JBF posts that have been Pro or Con Jameis. Wonder if the Pats’ fans waste their time with nonsense like that relating to Tom Brady’s “body of work in the NFL”.

What’s important about Jameis & the Bucs is where we are RIGHT NOW. Fact: Bucs have a new HC who’s got a pretty good track record working with QBs. Fact: Jameis is on a 1-year contract right now (in some circles it might be more aptly called ‘Try Before Buy’). In essence, Jameis has 1-year to prove that he’s worthy of a long-term, high-dollar contract.

Can almost guarantee that those who’ll be footing the bill for that high $$$ contract … the Glazers … will say sayonara to the Jameis-experiment IF he screws the pooch this year (and the Bucs have yet another losing season). And even IF he has a decent season (say break-even) Glazers may kiss him off anyways IF Coach Arians advises them that Jameis isn’t the long-term answer they seek at QB.

So JBFers can keep chastising each other all you want as being ‘haters’ or whatever, but push-come-to-shove it’s all irrelevant. It’ll play out on the field this season and in the boardroom AFTER the season. Until then, how’s about we all root for Jameis & ALL our Bucs’ players to kick ass & take names this year. Tired of losing.

  49. Buc1987 Says:

Now you have joe calling you out because your trying to backtrack. Just change your name on this site and that should ease the embarrassment a little

  51. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

#7423 hopes Byron Leftwhich can convince our offensive line to open up holes for running backs

  52. BucFan3 Says:

Been saying before Jameis became a beloved Buc, it’s Jameis. Was screaming from Heinz Field that rainy night…it’s Jameis. Waved to the FSU Charter busses as they entered the stadium that historic, nearly perfect night. One of those incompletions was a dropped ball. It’s JAMEIS!

  53. Bird Says:

    Geez

We know which joe wrote that comeback.
No offense but I think you created a lot of the word you call “hate”

Article after article about America’s qb. It’s your site so you can write about whatever you want. But until recently it was covering one person all day / everyday . 10 out of 12 articles out of you know who. More times than not pointing the finger everywhere but at Jameis. He has a bad game and you call it a mixed bag. He has a good game and it’s “America” and I told you so.

People don’t hate Jameis cause he is a buc . Well maybe some do. Me personally , it’s been to many ups and downs. A lot of losses. And I k ow it’s not just him. He deserves some blame which just doesn’t come from ______

However , this coaching staff should take him to next level. If not, then buc fans should be very worried…it’s ok to criticize a player, especially the most important player on the field.

  54. AlteredEgo Says:

I ain’t backing up, I’ve always credited Jamyth for his good play but never hesitated to criticize him for his bad… not my problem the scales tip to the bad. I’ve seen more Buc games live than probably all of you Jamyth humpers on this thread combined. Ain’t no hope in football and Jameis is what his record is in the NFL , 58 interceptions and 22 fumbles and countless boneheaded decisions that are not recorded….what you humpers “think he can be “ means dog poop on a shoe . You guys are getting stressed as time is running out on your dreams

  55. ATLBuc Says:

Jameis has not had the benefit of 1. A running game 2. A competent coach to help him improve. 3 A defense. 4. A good O line. Name one QB in the history of theNFL who has won consistently and was great under these circumstances. Yet Despite these obstacles JW has improved each year. When it comes to evaluating JW’s talent who should we listen to? Our new coach, the QB whisperer? Or, the people on this site who are blinded by disdain for JW?

  56. down in the dirt Doug Says:

  57. Loyaltotheend Says:

When are people gonna realize his first year at FSU is an outlier his play in Tampa is what he is not that magical first year at FSU

  58. cmurda Says:

Joe’s previous comment was dead on. Come on Ego. This ain’t our first rodeo on JBF.com. You may fool the random one timers on here but not the distinguished ladies and gentlemen that frequent this site. Even when Jameis has a beast game, it’s all because of how weak the opposing defense was or that Jameis just happened to have a good game. I love the commitment to Jameis and it’s a no-brainer. Dude is only 25 years old. If Arians doesn’t see it in Jameis after 2019, then the organization has an opportunity to not re-sign him at the end of next year. I’m of the belief that Arians will have our Bucs rising fast. The Aints window is closing, Cam is a shell of his former self, and Matty Ice has limited weapons. I could actually deal with TMax and the anti-GMC crowd. I think GMC is a talent but he’s not a take over a game generational talent. He’s getting paid like one. I’m on the fence on him.

  59. Jean Lafitte Says:

    LORD CLOWNELIUS,

My “FACT” #1 statement was that Winston is not a WINNER in the NFL. That is undisputed. His win percentage as a starter is PATHETIC.

My other statement about leads at halftime wasn’t about scoring per half, it was about putting up enough puts in the 1st half to take a lead into halftime and gain the momentum in the game.

You Winston-Slurpers can ‘massage’ his stats and bits & pieces of good play all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that Jameis Winston, with tons of weapons and solid offensive game-planning, HAS SUCKED.

Great QB’s find a way to win games and at least put their teams in consistent position to win games. Look at Baker Mayfield and you can see exactly that. Winston has NEVER been able to do that consistently.

  65. BucsBandit Says:

    INDISPUTABLE FACT:

Jameis Winston has a 0.75% Turnover-To-Game Ratio based on INTs and fumbles lost.

In his 4 year career, of all the games he has played in (even when he didn’t start) he AVERAGES turning the ball over in 75 PERCENT of games played.

    SEVENTY. FIVE. PERCENT.

  66. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:
