Bucs Sign A Mike McCarthy Quarterback

January 3rd, 2019

A conspiracy theorist would have fun with this one.

Our beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today the signing of five players to futures contracts, one of them is former Packers QB Joe Callahan.

Callahan played Division-III ball for Wesley College in Delaware and entered the NFL with Green Bay in 2016. He actually spent time that season on the Packers’ active roster, as well as with the Cleveland Browns and the New Orleans Saints. He re-joined Green Bay in 2017, serving on the Packers’ practice squad before appearing in one game. Callahan spent time during the 2018 offseason with Green Bay and Philadelphia.

Of course, fired-a-month-ago Packers coach Mike McCarthy is a hot candidate to become a head coach somewhere in 2019. Is it remotely possible the Bucs pulled in Callahan as a tiny way to help lure McCarthy?

Defensive end Hunter Dimick, punter Hayden Hunt, linebacker Corey Nelson and long snapper Zach Triner were the other four signed to futures contracts. Google is your friend if you want to know more about them.

  10. VdubVW Says:

NO!!! that would be a mistake. So we could easily see this guy as head coach considering the stupid moves this organization has made throughout the years. This team is a mess. Hope they start making better decisions. PMA

So you’d prefer Joe not share this info? The dude has more regular season snaps than Ryan Griffin.–Joe

  17. Jean Lafitte Says:

He has PS eligibility where Griffin has none.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Maybe he can stay on our roster for 3 years and not get a snap like Ryan Griffin.

  19. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe can we got a poll on which Head Coach candidate Bucs fans want?

  20. Michael Wright Says:

Eyes a NO on McCarthy too!!!

  21. Mike Evans Goat Says:

Having personally watched McCarthy coach up here in Wisconsin for the past 7 years I would give a big “HE11 NO!!!!” To him coming to Tampa. Same problems as Dirk. Way to stubborn, garbage game plans, BAD defense, and ZERO halftime adjustments. Hard pass

  22. Eric Says:

Keep your eye on the current Rutger’s coach, i read where Bellichick said something nice about him once.

He is 7-29 but what the heck.

  24. Doc Says:

  25. Steven007 Says:

I say no to Mike as well. But if he is hired I just can’t wait to hear what kind of candy, TV show, and vegetable he likes to eat attached to every single reference of his name…

    👍, Robert.

  27. LynchMob Says:

    No to McCarthy

  28. VFL98 Says:

Really Joe?? so they think that by signing a practice squad guy from the Packers would help bring McCarthy in? WOW! Yea, i’m sure McCarthy was sitting at home and heard they just signed this no name QB and he is like. “man, I have to get to Tamp now, look who they just signed”.. SMH.. Take some time off Joe you need it.
Joe would suggest you actually re-read what’s written here.–Joe

  29. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Joe the guy has more regular season games the Griffin lmao. I wonder if he ever gets to play a real game I have a feeling Griffin will be great if he does

  30. SchwiftyBuc Says:

If we’re going to be signing a Head Coach with the name Mike, I pray to god that it’s Mike Munchak and not Mike McCarthy.

  31. GhostofSchiano Says:

JOE SAYS – So you’d prefer Joe not share this info? The dude has more regular season snaps than Ryan Griffin.–Joe

“Mccarthy is going to either Browns or Jets or sit the year

his 2 kids go to high school in Milwaukee and Mike doesn’t want to switch schools. Cleveland and New York are the only teams close enough for this to work logistically”

  35. Eric Says:

Guy from Minot State might take the job.

As Randy Hedberg said, “Why not Minot”.

Hard to believe but Randy is 64 years old now.

  36. Joe In Michigan Says:

Joe Callahan was also a New Orleans Saint for a week, maybe he can give us all of their offensive secrets.

  37. Zwak Says:

Seems very odd to sign players when we don’t have a coach yet! This doesn’t seem normal or random.

  38. Waterboy Says:

Joe if the Bucs were smart they would put you all on the staff somewhere. You all can definitely come up with conspiracies and angles that would never cross the average person’s mind. I’m sure you all could come up with all types of creative approaches to help them vet the coaching candidates.

  39. TOM Says:

Let’s hear it for the Mike’s. McCarthy, Munchack, Mularky & Ditka

  40. Buccaneerscotty Says:

    I want Madden!

  41. SchwiftyBuc Says:

  43. BigMacAttack Says:

Jason the Magnificent should just coach the team himself. These were very impressive moves he made today 👏👏👏

    Kobe Faker
    ———————————————————————–
    Hey Kobe,
You said if Jason stays you would be gone.
    Yet here you are.
Of course you said you would be gone if the Bucs beat the Chiefs 3 years ago too.
    You can’t be trusted.

  48. StoutGospel Says:

Read the reports….what’s the Packers problem with Pat Fitzgerald not wanting to work for them???!?! For some, it ain’t about money. Leave the dude alone.

And McCarthy….sure as hell ain’t NO JOHN HARBAUGH. So…we’re good.

Team Glazer, please just do you, and by that, I mean please not only pursue JOHN, but acquire JOHN Harbaugh.

    Thanks….this dude.

  49. Big Country Says:

He couldn’t win with Rogers, so you think he can win here?

  50. lambchop Says:

A journeyman practice squad/barely active player is going to lure a Tier 1 coach? LOL, I just don’t get it.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

Uh… yeah, this is just a super depth signing to fill out a roster when you have Fitz and Griffin who won’t be back. I mean Griffin, perhaps he does come back, but he’ll probably follow Dirk to Atlanta I’d guess.

  52. Jean Lafitte Says:

Who knows maybe that will get Joe’s guy hired.

  53. Tval Says:

Winning a super bowl now means you “cant win with”…
