“He’s Made His; I’ve Made Mine.”

Bruce Arians talks Jameis

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, has a clean slate with his new head coach Bruce Arians.

In fact, it’s not really clean; Arians is very prejudiced when it to Jameis.

That was the message from Arians today on The Rich Eisen Show.

“I’ve known him for a long time, like I said, We all make mistakes. He’s made his. I’ve made mine,” Arians said of Jameis. “You know, I feel like I’ve got a great feel for him, his excitement for the game. His willingness to work is unbelievable. He’s in the office at 5 o’clock in the morning. And, so yeah, I have no qualms about that.”

So he’s your guy moving forward? Eisen asked Arians about Jameis.

“There is no doubt. No doubt,” Arians said. “Everything is going to be built around [Jameis]. I think he can win it all. I mean, he has the intelligence, the toughness, and obviously the arm ability to lead a team. We gotta put the right pieces around him. Obviously, we gotta do some things defensively.”

Arians went on to rave about how defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will be the guy he has complete confidence in to make a defense hum.

I had heard that Bowles is still out interviewing!

  2. Hodad Says:

Why am I reading some reports Bowles might go to the Bears as D.C.? What’s the truth Joe?

  3. 813bucboi Says:

good to hear bruce endorse winston…..

i hope TB gets the defense up to speed in a hurry….thats what will really help winston…..

    #WINSTON=2019SCAPEGOAT!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Thegregwitul Says:

Bowles is officially heading to the Bucs, so those Bears rumors can be put to bed.

  5. Buccernutter Says:

I didn’t realize how many jbf bloggers are smarter at football than Bruce Arians.

You Winston haters are the dumbest fans of any sport. I respect if u don’t like the guy personally but hating on his football skillset is laughable.

  6. Buccernutter Says:

Buc boi have u eaten crow yet? U were so certain it wasn’t Bruce.

  7. Bucamania Says:

Bowles to the rescue. No more soft, vanilla soul-draining defense.

  8. AtlBuc Says:

Buccernutter, You are wrong!!! Bucco Bruce is WRONG!!!! These fans are right. JW should be shipped outta here now!!!! LOL

  9. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Winston has the most turnovers since 2015, 76

Every coach praises players to the media, what arians said about Jamies doesn’t matter

  10. miken Says:

@buccernutter… Can you name 1 qb thats turned the ball over more than him? Nope, he hasthe most, thats the problem. If anyone can save him though, its Bruce! Homerun hire.

  11. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I loved the way Arians said that. It is truth of life. It is going to allow Jameis to truly move forward with this coach and become the best player that he can be. And I still believe that is pretty damn good.

  12. TexBuc Says:

Wearing my Armchair QB coach hat Winston has the ability only a few QB’s have which is the ability to operate in a dirty pocket. You cannot coach a QB who is afraid of the pass rush, but you can coach an aggressive QB to play more controlled. I believe that is what Arians sees in Winston.

  13. JA Says:

“Arians is very prejudiced when it to Jameis.” And then, ironically: “I’ve known him for a long time, like I said, We (should be lower case “w”) all make mistakes …

What is it with you guys lately?
I think Bonzai, or another commenter, pointed this out yesterday.
I expect mistakes from idiot posters like me, but you Joes have been mounting them up. Is someone else doing your writing?

  14. TexBuc Says:

    Miken

1st 4 seasons in the NFL:

    P. Manning 81 int & 21 fumbles = 102
    J. Winston 58 int & 38 fumbles = 96
    E. Manning 77 int & 34 fumbles = 111
    J. Elway 65 int & 35 fumbles = 100
    A. Luck 55 int & 32 fumbles = 87
    A. Manning 58 int & 29 fumbles = 87

Winston’s performance is not out of the ordinary.

  15. BrianBucs Says:

    We’ll see…………

there was no crow to eat….you no one knew who would be the HC….

  17. AlteredEgo Says:

I thought that BA’s endorsement was a bit too much….he needs to keep Jameis a bit edgy…part of Jameis’s problem was that he thought he knew more than anyone and could do anything on the football field…Jameis has a long way to go to become a elite NFL QB…once you get out of our Buccaneer/Tampa town bubble….Jameis is not thought of so highly…fortunately for everyone including himself he finished the year with a good game

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

    P. Manning 81 int & 21 fumbles = 102
that was when they could knock the sheet out of QB’s and WR’s

  19. HolyBuc Says:

@mikken… Since Arians was taking over and his success with Carson Palmer I wanted to take a look at Palmers start of his career. First does anyone know how many TD passes Carson threw before the age of 25? Zero.

I then wanted to compare his first 4 years to Jameis for interception percentage Palmer: 5.1% Winston: 3.0%

My point in this is QB’s in there first 4 years are not finish products especially when you start a career at 21. The difference now is you don’t have to pay QB till year 5 so people think a definitive decision on a QB has to be made and that somewhat true. Before the rookie wage cap we would have been paying Winston top 10 QB money over the past 4 years. If Arians wants Winston it gives me more faith in him. Let’s see what he does with him.

  20. stpetebucsfan Says:

At the end of this season I thought JW had made a quantum leap in his decisions. He seemed to have matured.

We can speculate all afternoon where that epiphany came from…the suspension by the NFL…the benching by Koetter…perhaps just growing up…maybe his new child…there are plenty of reasons we could guess.

The reason doesn’t really matter if he’s actually grown up. I don’t care which event or events created JW’s epiphany. If it happened it’s all good.

And who in America doesn’t love redemption. If last year’s suffering and next years steady hand from Bucco Bruce combine to help JW reach his true potential it’s all good!!!!

  21. TexBuc Says:

    Excerpt from BA’s book

Manning asked out of a blowout against the Patriots after throwing three interceptions. “[Expletive] no, get back in there,” Arians told him. “We’ll go no-huddle and maybe you’ll learn something. You can never ask to come out. You’re a leader. Act like it.” Manning led the Colts to their only touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

    Awesome!

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Alright Jameis haters. You can put the BS behind till next September. You’re either don’t like him because his off field issues, or are ignorant about football. Jameis totally turned it around at the end of the year playing smart football by getting rid of the ball, using his run skills, and taking the sack. There is probably no way that will regress or not improve with Arians. Jameis threw 3 picks since week 12 in SF. One that was ME13 fault bouncing off an easy catch and another was a game ending bomb to the end zone. Arians is a leader and puts together great staffs. Guys won’t be checking FB posts like Grimes at half time if they put in sh!tty work. #GOJDUB3!!!#GO BUCCO BA!!!#GO BUCS!!!

  23. DaPostman Says:

Still by far the stupidest fan base in the NFL. If you can’t tell the difference between 1st half Winston and 2nd half Winston you need to be hit over the head with a tack hammer because you are a retard.

  24. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    BrianBucs Says:
    “We’ll see…………”

Brian, in all sincerity, that was the most hopeful comment have seen from ya in regards to Jameis. — Haha, yes man we will definitely see. Hopefully it will be something that we can ALL be happy with.

  25. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    (I’ve seen)

  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ Great stuff TexBuc, thanks for the share!

  27. SOEbuc Says:

    TexBuc

Thanks for those stats brotha. And most of those guys likely had good olines.

  28. Bucko40 Says:

    TexBuc you left out Wins:

Winston = 21- zero playoff appearances
    P Manning = 32- 2 playoff appearances
Elway = 44- 3 playoff appearances Lost SB in year 4
    E Manning = 35 win SB in season 4- 3 playoff appearances
    Andrew Luck = 39 wins – 3 playoff appearances

What did all these QB’s have in common 1st overall pick from very bad teams.

Great QB elevate the Players around them to win. Despite all of the equality in Stats Winston hasn’t elevated his team to win. Maybe Arians can cure that. If he can’t then then Bucs better have a fallback plan.

  29. TexBuc Says:

    Bucko 40

I agree wins are important, but no one player can impact a poorly coached and assembled team. Case in point A. Rodgers generally being considered a great QB should have more than 1 SB or why does Dan Marino have 0 SB wins. Stats are important to see if a position is the problem still takes a team and some luck to win.

  30. Pittsshore Says:

So we just have an older fatter Koetter

  31. Defense Rules Says:

I really wish people would stop with this ‘Jameis hater’ BS. That’s such a load of horse manure. It seems to be far too fashionable nowadays to paint those who don’t agree with us as being ‘out at the extremes’ when in reality that’s rarely true.

Jameis is who he is. Lots of talent & potential, but also quite prone to making costly mistakes & his leadership skills/decision-making need work. Bruce Arians is the perfect coach to ‘fix’ those things in Jameis that need fixing and to help his POTENTIAL become REALITY. How about we all agree to just let it play out for this year. We’ll know soon enough whether or not Jameis is the franchise QB Bucs’ fans have been lusting for since 1976. If he is, fantastic. If he’s not, the 2020 & 2021 drafts look good in terms of promising QB prospects.

  32. Bucsfanman Says:

I love how we have suddenly “put to bed” 4 years of “Bad Jameis” with Arians declaration.
“All you Jameis haters, blah, blah, blah”!
Arians was brought here for a reason, and it’s not because of the QBs stellar play. This is a team that was in desperate need of direction and accountability. That includes one Jameis Winston.
If you are truly a Buc fan, you want the best for the team. The TEAM is bigger than Jameis. Jameis MUST be part of the solution, thus the declaration.
Make no mistake, this is not a “given” for Jameis. He must prove, like the defense, ST, and the coaches, that he belongs. He will be given that opportunity. If you’re a fan, you will root for him AND the team to be successful. If he can’t perform, he should be shown the door just like anybody else.
We didn’t “solve” anything YET. I am pleased that he has the backing and support of his coach.
“Haters” and “apologists” alike need to get behind this TEAM. It’s about the ‘W’s, always about the ‘W’s!

  33. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Give it up on Jameis…….JBF is in hog heaven….Ariens for Jameis!!! It simply can’t get any better for Joe…..I’m happy for him and I’m hopeful for us.

  34. Shamis Hater Says:

I threw up im my mouth after reading this article. Jamis asked us to give him a chance we did and he lied to all of us. I have been a life long buc’s fan but I hope Jamis fails.

  35. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Hey, I’m no fan of Jay Miss’s play over the last four years. Granted, he was better the last few games, but he has proven over time that he’s turnover prone and makes poor decisions. I certainly hope Arians can turn it around, but if he plays like he has most of his career, or has any more off field incidents, Jay Miss will be gone after year five, and rightfully so.

    TexBuc you left out Wins:

Winston = 21- zero playoff appearances
    ———

We can’t fairly judge Jamies on wins because he had to put up 48 points a game to win with freakin MIKE SMITH and Lovie Smith sh#tty defenses

Also ZERO running game with terrible o-line and TERRIBLE kickers that can’t make field goals

  37. TOM Says:

I think towards the end of the year Winston’s turnovers were way down.

  38. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Yeah that’s because Koetter benched him, then Jamies finally realized he needed to act like a real quarterback and protect the football

Kinda like how you need to punish a stupid child, except this stupid child is getting paid $20 million dollars

  39. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Defense Rules,

As usual, your post is elegantly written and SPOT ON.

With very few exceptions, there are not “Jameis haters” and “Jameis lovers”.

We all want the same thing for God’s sake. Some of us (like myself) gave put ourselves squarely in JW’s corner and believe. Others are not so sure and are concerned (based on what they have seen).

Man ya cant really fault either of those sides.
Jameis has the opportunity to bring those sides together.

  40. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Shamis,

To have any credit here, you will need to spell his name right lol. It’s not “Jamis”.

    All good, carry on!

  41. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

I would say Jamies is good enough to be the most hated (by his on the field play) starting quarterback that a NFL team should keep

  42. Jean Lafitte Says:

Really? Did anyone really expect Bucco to come in and say something negative about Jameis? Regardless that he signed on knowing that he has Jameis for at least a season. Hopefully more if Bucco can tap that potential to the fullest but I’m sure there will be those days where Bucco will shake his head in disgust but again it will be kept out of public view. Jameis is gonna have to work his @ss off. Give him a dominating O-line and the offense will hum.

  43. Dom is gone ... Licht Says:

If all goes as all Bucs fans hope Winston with a new coach will finally turn into the player all Bucs fans hoped he would be as #1 pick… if Winston fails under Bruce can we all admit he is not a franchise QB? Let’s all pray us Winston “haters” are wrong and his turn over problems were all Dirks fault. More important let’s pray that Bruce has final say on roster Licht has proven he is garbage at building a roster

  44. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Shamis,

Sorry, that was kind of tongue-in-cheek.

Unfortunately people (and good people) do make really poor decisions and bad mistakes in life…..especially in younger years. — I know that i made some doozies.. that are still really hard for me to this day.

Jameis… i see a truly good heart in him and a person that cares about other people and wants to do the right things. — He has already paid a dear price by the simple matter of how many people he feels he let down.

It is true in this life that you don’t have to be defined by your mistakes. You can overcome… if your heart is pure.

I am rooting for JW… because I believe his is.

  45. ghost Says:

Some of you are trolls or extremely stupid. What is BA supposed to say? “He is until we can replace him?”

  46. RustyRhinos Says:

I am so very very tired of hearing how Jamise Winston is in the building everyday at 5 am and how hard he works. With all that time in house when is he going to learn to improve his game? In 4 seasons of being in the building everyday at 5 am has that improved his ball placement, accuracy, or learning to take what is there, and not throw into triple coverage when there is a open receiver available? What happens when the QB whisperer can not get him to improve his game in those areas? I get the no risk it no biscuit premise, but for how long will this coach allow the same mistake to happen over and over and over again. I bet it is NFL! Not For Long. Because this coach knows these owners have a short leash on coaches who do not produce in their first 2 seasons. I hope coach Arians “the QB whisperer ” can make the changes needed to Winston’s game and play in games. If not 2020 maybe coach Arians last as coach here.

  47. Pittsshore Says:

He is in at 5 because the strip bars close at 4.

  48. Ndog Says:

So you guys that still want Jameis out of here, do you really think that a guy that coached Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, Carson Palmer and Ben Roethlisberger would come here and possibly ruin his reputation if he didn’t truely believe in Jameis? Just admit it you’re wrong in your evaluation of Jameis and you just believe all the moronic talking heads which know nothing about OUR team. Just like BA said put a defense and running game around Jameis and we will win, period.

  49. Geno Says:

NDog what jobs were open for top 5 to 10 quarterbacks in the league. If it was only about Arians choice for best QB, I say he would have taken Rogers over Winston.

I will gladly eat crow if Winston is in the top 16 of qb turnover ratio next year.

  50. Buc1987 Says:

Ndog…they know more than Bruce Arians and every other pro football professional that says Jameis has mad skills.

Who cares anyways anymore? Not me.

When this team starts winning…it starts winning. Too much time wasted on this foolish team over the years for me.

I like the hire…but still it’s wait and see. Just like any other coach.

  51. Nate Says:

Look….no j hater here I want Jameis to win it all……

But if you pass on Dwayne haskins and you dont have worse case a talented backup ….your screwed

Yall Jameis-at – all -costs fans that dont even consider a injury or so forth and dont even want a challenge for j dubb

    Bucs think long and hard

AL DT Williams…he’ll be gone …no CB worth top 5 pick….no Saquon type RB in this draft top 5
RT OL for the gators who is no Quinton Nelson…..is not worth it

So trade down and get need in rounds 2-7 or draft the best player avail ,(which should be done in the top 5)

    Which is Haskins…..just saying

  52. Nate Says:

    Its Jameis or bust ….

N if its busts and we pass on haskins

Its pray for a #1 pick for trevor Lawrence and hope haskins doesnt make us look stupid like mahomes did us….

I knew that Texas tech qb was sumin else…maybe Jameis can throw 50 TDs

  53. PriMech54 Says:

@Nate dude we’re definitely not drafting Dwayne Haskins. Or any qb for that matter, for at least the first 4 to 5 rounds. You don’t waste draft capital like that just because you want to have an insurance policy in case of injury or you want him to be challenged. That means you more than likely consider him to be the answer already, you just want to push him to the next level. Which I don’t disagree with doing, but I do not believe the channel to do so is the draft. Realistically they could free up anywhere from 30 to 40 million this offseason with some of these inflated contracts to dead weight type players, and go and get the right backup QB via free agency or trade.

Save the draft capital with the top 5 position each round to either plug the holes in the running game and defense, or use it to trade for difference makers in those spots like David Johnson or Jalen Ramsey. Winston doesn’t need to be Patrick Mahomes for the Bucs to start winning and guys like Bruce Arians can see it.

  54. Bob in Valrico Says:

Wish Arians all the success in the world. Like the fact that he thinks its
important for QB’s to work on footwork and accuracy everyday.

  55. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

The Winston accolades is a rerun from when Koetter was hired.
