Tale Of Two Lines

December 9th, 2018

Bucs GM Jason Licht

It’s easy to give Dirk Koetter a failing grade, which is why Joe fully expects a new head coach at One Buc Palace in three short weeks.

But what about general manager Jason Licht? Today was a perfect example of why it’s challenging to grade the guy.

Yes, today the Bucs (5-8) locked up having just one winning season and no playoffs in Licht’s five-year tenure. Right off the bat, that’s very ugly for any GM.

But Joe has often written and said that general managers don’t coach, call plays or make tackles. You have to grade them through a very different lens.

Is Licht a genius for building the team jumped out to a 14-3 lead today against the Saints? Or is he a buffoon for crafting the No. 1-ranked NFL offense that fell apart in the second half?

Is it Licht’s fault veteran linebacker Cameron Lynch forgot how to block on punt team? Is it Licht’s fault that defensive coordinator Mike Smith was even here this season, including through five games and a bye week?

Those are legitimate and difficult questions.

Back to today’s game, one could easily give the defensive line an “A-” grade and the offensive line a “D-.” Licht hand-crafted both units.

Licht set out this offseason to rebuild the defensive line and it’s worked. Meanwhile, Licht’s baby is the offensive line and it’s coming apart despite being one of the healthiest O-lines in the NFL this season.

What role is coaching playing with that O-line? What about on the D-line?

Licht has far too many free agency warts, as well as draft misses both among guys he picked and those he did not draft. But he’s also added and drafted many quality pieces without screwing up the salary cap and mortgaging the Bucs’ future.

Joe could make a solid case for Licht staying, including him growing since taking over the job, but Joe absolutely couldn’t argue if Team Glazer thinks Licht as reached his ceiling and is not longer their GM of the future.

As with any potential executive change, Team Glazer must convinced it can replace Licht effectively. That’s probably a lot tougher task than finding a head coach better than Koetter.

    Crabman ………. bwahahahahaha

Bench him now before he hurts himself. Save the 20 mill

Get a real qb so the fans will come back.

Just give jablow a beer and order him an Uber, he’ll take care of the rest

    Bwahahahahaaaa

  2. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Time for Licht’s Out…he’s butchering early picks and do we really want him working with a 3rd head coach? No thanks…

  3. Rayjay1122 Says:

Put both of them….Licht and Koetter on a one way raft to Cuba ……Please!!!!

  4. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Yes Licht shares much of the blame he is the one that passed on so many legit draft picks for his cute picks and dont forget that he blew an entire 2016 draft and mike evans is the only sure fire top 50 player he has acquired on this roster and the 2018 draft class is looking like crap as well….and he drafted a KICKER

  5. Loyaltotheend Says:

Saints hit on draft picks and win back to back division titles

Licht whiffs on the draft more than he hits and is lauded for a grand slam which half the players from that grand slam won’t be here in 2019

Bad GM results and the talent speaks for itself

  6. D-Rome Says:

Today was a perfect example of why it’s challenging to grade the guy.

    Not really.

Put it this way. If the Bucs fail to win two more games this season Jason Licht’s record as GM will be, at best, no better than Mark Dominick’s record. If the Bucs fail to win another game the record will be *WORSE* than the Rockstar.

That should give everyone some pause.

  7. nate s Says:

    time for new ownership!

  8. Lamarcus Says:

Retaining Koetter and his staff after what happened last year is enough to justify Licht walking papers

  9. Season Is Over Says:

We need these last six games to see what we have in Winston.

  10. Bobby M. Says:

His strength is drafting….and he’s below avg at that. When you look at the whole picture….He’s had one winning season in 5. He’s had 2 head coaches, 4 defensive coordinators…that’s just in 5 yrs. How many kickers have we had? I’m sure other teams have had different kickers within a 5 yr span, highly doubt they’ve had 5 or 6 that included trading up to the 2nd rd to draft one. He’s missed on too many picks in rds 1-3 where you need to find contributors. He gave Mike Smith an extension….hand picked Koetter. Winston still doesn’t give you any definite confidence on or off the field. What exactly has he done well besides jump in a pool with beer?

  11. BrianBucs Says:

The GM of an NFL team is responsible for everything that happens.
He has hired the head coach and built the roster.
After this many years, Licht has a losing record and a roster full of holes. Also his choice for head coach has failed. His franchise QB that he squandered the draft’s #1 pick on is so far a disappointment. His team at times looks to be heading backwards.
This is another lost season and it’s Jason Licht’s mess. He should be the first person fired

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Lamarcus

Retaining a coach is up to the owners, not the GM.

  13. JimmyJack Says:

You are going to bring a new HC in here and he is going to want power.

It’s his choice if he wants to work with Licht or not.

The only way a new HC will want to keep Licht is if it’s a Licht guy(Arians). Otherwise they are going to want somebody they are familiar with.

  14. Tbbucs3 Says:

Any staff member in One Buc Place with Lovie Smiths finger prints on it needs to go on black monday. Lovie Smith May be running a bad football team in Illinois, but his mentality weak culture and his hand picked guys are still running our football team.

  15. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai at the end of the day we dont know that for certainty. Licht does have full control of football operations.

I get what your saying that the Glazers have to approve. That don’t mean they can’t be convinced.

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Basically it’s all hearsay whenever your talking about the Glazers.

  17. Patrick Says:

    Roberto Aguayo. Enough said!

  18. Lamarcus Says:

Licht is not the guy. Because the Buc should stop with him. The losing should stop with him. He is the bottom line and the bottom line ain’t doing much but losing. Trust me if my coach loses the way Koetter does I’ll fire him and face the Glazer’s later.

  19. Oxycondoms Says:

Licht allowed the Mike Smith and koetter fiasco thrive while rams and bears turned around their franchises with selecting the proper coach. Licht shouldn’t get a pass for the coaching failures

  20. Oxycondoms Says:

Licht probably could’ve got a nice array of draft picks from Chip Kelly who wanted mariotta. If he had a brain he could’ve wait e a year on drafting a QB

  21. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Clean house

    ……………………….fresh start

  22. ElioT Says:

In five years Licht has drafted only TWO unquestioned top tier talents.

    Mike Evans
    OJ Howard

If you want to count Jameis, that’s great but he was the #1 f**king overall pick and certainly has many question marks.

Let’s not even talk about the FA busts he’s brought in.

This guy has had his chance to build a TEAM and they’ve got almost nothing to show for 34 draft picks, and a sh*t load of salary.

    He’s done.

They need to clean house, even the towel boys need to just GTFO.

    Bye.

  23. JimmyJack Says:

I will like to hear about that second kick.

It looked like a good kick but may have hit a nasty gust. Looked like it went haywire midair, though I could be wrong.

I’m not gonna hit the panicbutton just yet. I’m willing to see this guy back kicking for us next week.

  24. Troy Says:

Licht is a figurehead. The Glazers need to get out of the way of their own shadows. If they fire Licht, let the next GM have full control. If they keep him, Licht needs to be able to make all player/personnel decisions. I’m not advocating one way or the other, but I think the Glazers are making things worse.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Troy. I was under the assumption that Licht had the final say of player decisions.

Pretty sure he was given that responsibility when Lovie was let go.

  26. Spicoli Says:

This let’s us know how Licht stacks up against a couple of his peers.

Howie Roseman with 20 players left from 64 picks, including 11 starters and 5 Pro Bowlers

•Les Snead with 17 players left from 51 picks, including 10 starters and 3 Pro Bowlers

    • Licht with 14 players left from 26 picks, including 11 starters and 3 Pro Bowlers

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Licht had a good game plan originally but it just took too long, especially with sh!tty coaching the entire time he’s been here.

  28. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jason “Bud” Lite is toast (like Rod Jones).

  29. Troy Says:

JimmyJack, I said player/personnel as a general term. I’m sure you’re right on the player piece once Lovie left.

  30. Stevbobucfan Says:

I think Licht should stay and Koetter should go. This team has a lot of good player who were brought in my Licht it just seems to me that when the team need to up the pressure offensively and defensively the team go conservative or let up. Is this coaching are they tied or is 1 side of the ball frustrating the other

  31. A’train4047 Says:

Someone needs to ask Koetter why in the world benenoch is still starting and playing in this weird rotation again. That is a coaching issue not a gm issue. Yes Licht drafted the guy but in the 5th round to be a backup

  32. Matts17 Says:

Get a president of football operations. Let him hire s new GM and coach. Glazers suck at making those decisions.

Licht must go. This team is just as bad as when he took it over. Period.

  33. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Why is it that everything points to what Winston did wrong for some of you guys? You act like he is the only player on the team. When I watch the game I see QB being the least of our issues yet all of you want to insert another QB into this mess just to rip him a new one as well. It’s crazy to me. If guys caught the ball and the online didn’t keep being a turnstile maybe we could actually throw the ball. On top of that no running game so the defense is always keying on the pass and sprinkle in a ton of wet balls and poof we lose! Yet blame the QB like some of you do just because you know nothing about the game.

  34. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    benenoch starting is absoluting puzzling

  35. JimmyJack Says:

Anthem between him and D. Smith we dont stand a chance against a legitimate Dline.

    I’ll consider Carolina luck.

  36. D-Rome Says:

Someone needs to ask Koetter why in the world benenoch is still starting and playing in this weird rotation again. That is a coaching issue not a gm issue. Yes Licht drafted the guy but in the 5th round to be a backup

If he drafted him to be a backup, then who did he bring in to be a starter? Oh that’s right, the failure that is JR Sweezy.

I doubt Cappa is better at the moment. Benenoch is probably the best they have. Thanks Licht!

  37. JimmyJack Says:

Licht may have drafted Benechot but Dirk is the one responsible for developing & deciding on his playing time.

Meanwhile NYG and the Skins showed us last month that you can find somebody in three weeks to play guard in this league. Dirk has had 3 years, has no injuries, and has not been able to provide us with NFL caliber guard play.

This is undenyable and is inexcusable.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

Swezzy is a fulltime starter right now. For a Wildcard team.

  39. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Yes the O Line play was subpar

Yes special teams was an issue

and yes all the other BS too……

But Winston was also inaccurate pretty much all of the 2nd half………

  40. cmurda Says:

I could go either way on Licht but Dirk should have been fired last year. This year was more of the same with him and his staff. More of the same is consistently being outcoached. I’m not talking about the talent on the field. Licht has built this team with the ability to win now IMO. The coaching staff is holding the team back.

  41. JimmyJack Says:

And I beg the question did Licht wait on a guard with his 2nd round pick because his coach’s told him that Benechot was ready to ay with the big boys?

Does Licht make decisions based on coach evaluations?

  42. JimmyJack Says:

There were a lot of guards avialable in round 2 this past draft.

Licht chose a “project” instead in the next round. Would love to kniw what the plan was.

  43. TheBucsAnthem Says:

How about bad coaching info feed to the GM ……..

maybe they said benenoch was getting better???????

……and that’s why I said everyone has to go

    CLEAN HOUSE

    ………………..fresh start

  44. El_Buc941 Says:

Eagles lost as well…we would’ve been in great wild card position with a win today..another reason why we need a top tier RB like Bell or Hunt. Too many opportunities left on the field.

  45. Oxycondoms Says:

Yeah we didn’t need a safety in the first round either or else Licht could’ve picked Derwin James instead of fat boy

  46. JimmyJack Says:

941…….Just a shame we are not Wildcard caliber.

All of the sudden Dallas and Baltimore are starting to scare me. We might be lucky to make it out alive.

  47. JimmyJack Says:

Yo Bucs? How bout another empty seat. You can count this ass right hear^^^

I’ll be at the Ice Palace suckas.

  48. The Coroner Says:

    Jason Licht
    had quite the night.
    Most of his second picks
    were sitting on the sticks.
    He’s had his parade
with kickers who were a charade.
    He has to win
but his chances are pretty thin.
    He picked his Koetter
who will soon be in the gutter.

  49. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    nice poem

    BRAVO

    LOL

  50. Rick Says:

Licht’s misfires have outweighed his highlights. Keep Jameis, let everyone else walk.

  51. snookman Says:

    37% winning PCT historically.

    Poorly run organization.
I pray the glazers sell this team and continue to ruin the Manchester United brand………which they are doing.

  52. denjoe Says:

Like koetter, Licht has no clue, putting his career in the hands of UDFA and Rookies instead of proven veterans he could have picked up fairly cheap. No quality depth time and time again. Knowing that he is tied to Koetter and not demanding Smiths exit sooner is on him too. What about supporting not to upgrade any position coaches after a 5-11 season, any argument to keep him is ridiculous!

  53. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Clean house……

  54. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL

no one cares about soccer……….except Europeans

    jk

  55. JimmyJack Says:

Such an empty feeling with this team.

I almost can’t believe this team has had no hope for this long.

Gonna be a new regime again and I’m sure I’ll buy in. But I’m even more sure I’ll be embarrassed again. Let’s just face it guys. Being a Bucs fan just sucks.

  56. Zwak Says:

Why did joe say three weeks??

  57. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Black monday…………….

end of season for non playoff teams

    THREE WEEKS

  58. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “But what about general manager Jason Licht? Today was a perfect example of why it’s challenging to grade the guy.” Fans don’t get to grade Licht; the Glazer Boyz will. It’s THEIR team & THEIR money on the line, not ours. The fact that they gave him a 1-year extension for this year rather than a long-term contract says a lot. They obviously weren’t convinced that he’s THE MAN going forward. Would this year’s results change their doubts? Probably not.

I’m guessing that the Glazers are probably leaning more towards the President of Football Operations model now. I’m also guessing that they already have someone in mind for that position. (Actually I thought they’d they would’ve already hired someone by now to be the ax man for them come end-of-season).

  59. Architek Says:

Benenoch and Donovan Smith should be enough to fire him.

Add in Ronald Jones, McPlaybook, and more….

Too many busted holes on this roster.

Coaching and culture is another wart on this team!

  60. Not there yet Says:

Underperforming is the stable of a Dirk Koetter coached team. No doubt these guys we drafted will play better for a real head coach. Glazers were foolish for bringing him back, not really hard to figure out why this season looks just like last years

  61. WalkdaPlank Says:

I’ve always been confused by Joes defense of Bucs GMs.

The Teflon Dom was awful but is still a rock star to Joe. And Joe thinks Licht has a chance at sticking around here? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I suppose.

    Mine is this:

Licht has a pretty decent track record with FA’s/trades. Actually it’s not bad, outside of the kickers. Adam Humphries, Cameron Brate, JPP, Nassib, and maybe Grimes but only his first season. All these guys have been studs for the Bucs (outside of Grimes who after year 1 started losing the battle to Father Time).

His problem is drafting. It’s horrible. I don’t count Evans and OJ, as nearly everyone knew the Bucs were going to pick them. I won’t hold Jameis on him as Mariota is no better. Outside of that? Absolute dumpster fire. A case can be made for Chris Godwin and Marpet but that’s all. And drafting Aguayo in the second round? Not firing Mike Smith last off-season when it is now clear he was a cancer?

    Licht is getting the axe.

  62. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Something else odd to me was when the defense did the row thing on the field after the TO and then we came away with no points. If I was a coach I would tell my team no celebrating unless we have a winning record and are actually good. Just details and discipline lack on this team and all that points to one person…the COACH!

  63. JimmyJack Says:

    87.

NFL players are the biggest showboaters on the planet. I guess most people love all this dancing and stuff. It’s praised and highlighted daily.

I think it’s disgraceful but my opinion is shunned as it’s in the minority.

  64. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Oh?

    You want discipline do you???????

    TOES ON THE LINE!

    TOES ON THE LINE!

  65. ElioT Says:

#lichtmyb*lls has made 34 draft selections with one legit, perennial pro bowler (M. Evans).

And how many his 11 “starters” on one of the worst teams in the nfl could start on any other team?

    I’ll wait…

  66. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m ok with the celebrations……after all, we have to watch our opponents celebrate continually…..it’s about time we were able to.

    I wasn’t the defense’s fault the O couldn’t put up a score…….

I think the placalling after the TO was bad…..

Todd, Dirk!!! We don’t have a running game……haven’t you learned that yet. Our best play is play-action on 1st down and we very rarely do it.

  67. BucEmUp Says:

I’ve always said that on both sides of the ball no.mayter how much talent you have, coaching is what makes the magic happen. The fact that the playcalling was so horrible today aired with Dirk Koetter already openly admitting that he took the offensive playcalling back from Tod Monken once (THAT’S ALL WE KNOW OF)….

I’m convinced today’s playcalling that laid flat in the second half was that of Dirk Koetter or at least heavily influenced by him.

Simms was 100%correct the bucs got head coached. Jason Licht and Jameis Winston can get something special going but Koetter needs to.go.

    BRUCE ARIANS 2019!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Bruce Arians would be my very first choice, but he’s not coming outta retirement……

    Hire Mike McCarthy

  69. JimmyJack Says:

This game stings because we lost but hurts more because of the way we lost.

We did make a lot of good plays but then we just gagged then all back with a buttload of mistakes. It doesnt feel like we are not good enough to win it feels like we are incapable of winning.

  70. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Jimmy

Get past all dat sheit bruh!!!!!!

time to start thinking about the draft

    and next season again

    …………………….ITS A BUCS LIFE

  71. jjbucfan Says:

This all but ended playoffs, Fire Koetter tomorrow, no need to F around. He may not be down burning spit to the ground on his way out.

  72. JimmyJack Says:

How do you miss a block on special teams?

The man is right in front of you. In the NFL this is an automatic play. You cannot be a good team in this league if you make mistakes like this. These are easy plays in this league that we cant perform. This is a fundamental play. You cannot win a football game if you cannot perform the fundamentals.

  73. jjbucfan Says:

BucEmUp- hilarious, in the second half after our first drive, my 17 year old turned to me and said the play calling really sucked, almost like when Koetter was calling the plays. We were in the stands and the Saints fans were saying, you guys are playing not to lose…this may not turn out the way you want today. We laughed and said whatever makes you feel better. They were right.

  74. JimmyJack Says:

Anthem the first order of business will be to find a new HC.

  75. JimmyJack Says:

    HC/GM whatever

  76. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Nope

……………..first is the head…..fire the GM

    ………………then coach

    …………..then the janitors

ha ha ha ha ha ha^

  77. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah Anthem that’s the proper order.

I’m trying to believe that the roster just needs some retooling. Not a complete rebuild. Guess we shall see.

  78. JimmyJack Says:

This is why I want to see us hang with Baltimore and Dallas the next two weeks.

I’d like to see this current roster show us they have promise. There have been plenty of quick success stories for new HCs in the league.

  79. Jameis Almighty! Says:

For the Love Of God and All things that exist! It’s all Lichts fault! Fireeee Licht!

  80. Destinjohnny Says:

    U have to sack Jason
    He is awful

  81. SOEbuc Says:

Joe do all your bandwagon fans store up names for Jameis all year when he’s hot and when he’s not?

People are such idiots. They think the GM just looks at the board and says “hey lets draft that guy.” HC has a very large opinion and influence and the Glazers can’t accomplish bringing a good head coach. Licht is a good scout and business man. He could get at least one more year with us and the Glazers and organization need to bring in a good HC that knows how to put a coaching staff and team together.

  82. Oxycondoms Says:

Bics should hire condeliza rice to run football operations

  83. Wesley Says:

The guy needs to go, he was always in over his head.

  84. BucEmUp Says:

Nine of this is Jason Lichts fault

  85. JimmyJack Says:

Are we going to get walked on top of by Baltimore next week? It’s really getting tough to deal with getting blown out on a consisent basis.

We are are entilted to our opinion but I consider 25-0 for an entire half a blowout.

  86. BucEmUp Says:

remember how bad the bears were last year? remember how bad the rams were two years ago? remember how good the falcons were before shannahn left?

    COACHING MAKES A TEAM!!!!!!!!

  87. JimmyJack Says:

We got blown out at home by a division opponent.

This has happened numerous times under Dirk.

Games like these are unacceptable. Major changes needed. Bucs are a total failure.

  88. DB55 Says:

    DB55 Says:
    October 11th, 2018 at 12:57 am
The man thrives under pressure but even diamonds can shatter.

And that might just happen with Dotson watching his six. He might get his shoulder, ankle, knee or head shattered.

Lichts inability to draft a RT like Ryan Ramczyk should get him fined for willful negligence or arrested for endangering the life of others
    ———————-
    Wtfdik

  89. Rod Munch Says:

Licht gave the team so little talent it went into the season with Chris Conte and Ryan Smith as starters. That alone is enough to get him fired.

It’s nice and all to build the defense from the line back – but you start that process in year one, not in year 4.

    He’s done.

  90. DBS Says:

    Watching the interception bowl tonight?

  91. JimmyJack Says:

Rod your right plus Licht had given us 5 drafts. In all of them picks he got is 1 lineman(Marpet). And one maybe(Vita Vea).

You can’t build a contending team if you can only find one lineman in that many years.

  92. JimmyJack Says:

This is a fun game on TV

  93. JimmyJack Says:

Not too many football games you could make an argument that the LT cost you the game. D.Smith gave us that kind of effort today.

He helped take points off the board on multiple ocasions and made mistakes on the most pivatol plays today.

With conviction I say that was the worst game I ever saw from a LT in my life.

  94. snookman Says:

As I sit here at 11:17pm watching Sunday Night Football. There is hope. Hope that in just one season a franchise can be turned around. It will require the right GM and Coach. Just look at the two teams playing on SNF. Both were dumpster fires just a couple of seasons ago……….Now they are contenders.

I firmly believe we have the talent just the not the brains.

  95. quickdrw21 Says:

Winston Dirk and Jason all should go. It takes a collaborative effort to be this bad.

  96. Mike Says:

How- it’s only challenging to grade him if you are kissing butt and politicking for press access. What a joke!

  97. DBS Says:

Kickers all over the NFL are missing kicks this year.

  98. DBS Says:

And the other lesson we just watched. Carelessly throw the ball up and get it picked?

  99. Owlykat Says:

Did you watch the half time commentators talking about the turnaround on defense being to a “top 5 defense” by Duff? It wasn’t the defense’s fault that they got worn down by too many threes and outs by our offense, and the collassal fault of the Special Team Coach retaining 52 in past weeks after he made block in the back penalties, ad nauseam, then did it again today negating a great run back, and then was the same fool who failed to block the Saint who blocked our kick and energized the Saint’s comeback. When we got our field goal kicker we were told he was accurate from 40 yards in (thus his perfect points after) but the Defense didn’t make Koetter send out our kicker for two field goals over his range when Koetter should have gone for it twice on 4th down instead. Most of the three and outs were due to Warhop leaving D. Smith at LT and Benenoch at RT, with Liedtke and Smith on the bench who are better, and Cappa who Warhop failed to develop. And after Jameis hurt his plant leg he overthrew passes the latter part of the game and the leg injury was not his fault. Koetter could have put Fitz in at that point but didn’t. Now if you compare touchdowns while Koetter has been Coach to all other Coaches in the Buc’s past Koetter is the best. So I am now reluctant to say fire every body when Licht did bring in the players that can give us a top five defense. I think this team can turn around just by replacing Warhop and the Special Team Coach and putting a second long distance field goal kicker on our roster and bringing back 44 who can sub for Barber when hurt and open holes for himself and fire 52.

  100. Troy Says:

Here’s the problem I see – people complain about JW and push all the blame on him, but are people who are screaming about Winston watching the other games? Trubisky is awful. He’s a putrid qb. He threw 3 pics today. His coach runs an offense to protect him. This kid only completes passes to his first read. Goff – 4 pics. Same deal. I’m not impressed. Needs a run game and a pristine pocket to make throws. Prescott overthrows receivers a lot and is only good when the running game is effective. My point is that the coaches of these QBs try to help them with their offensive scheme. Ours doesn’t. No quick screens or slants. Nothing. Look at the tape. Koetter isn’t helping develop our qb. He has a scheme and that’s it.

  101. BUCWAD Says:

HIRE DERRICK BROOKS as GM in some capicity . As the main guy he could probably do as well as the current group is doing.they should at least involve him in player evaluatións. Bruce Arians would be good also too maybe be the main guy and train 55 for a few years. I don’t think the team needs a complete overhaul where the players are concerned just need to replace most of the top.Draft and ferry agents ect. Also get a sports phyc. to figure out the kickEra problem.

  102. Fire Light Says:

    Fireeee Licht.

  103. Krojen Says:

Dude has had early draft picks for what feels like a decade (he better have some nice pieces) and whiffed horribly on literally all of his free agent spending sprees. Some of them are historic all time misses too.

With the time and resources he’s had, I don’t think many could have done worse.

  104. westernbuc Says:

Koetter needs to fire Warhop tonight

  105. adam from ny Says:

bottom line, and no one is discussing it:

we were playing a step ahead of the saints, and brees was genuinely frustrated…then when santos missed the 2nd field goal, the bubble burst, the team lost steam, and subconsciously all the players heard that little voice in there head saying “not again johnny”…from that point on they were playing a step behind the saints for the rest of the game…that 2nd field goal completely drained this team of what they were building these past 2 and a half weeks…the missed kicks force them to mentally throw in the towel…and their bodies followed suit thereafter…this is a fragile group trying to turn the corner, and this lengthy ongoing kicking circus is eating the players up silently…every time a field goal is missed, they say to themselves “ok be supportive, next play, everything’s gonna be ok”…then they quietly plummet inside

  106. Defense Rules Says:

Yesterday’s game was a tale of two Jameis’s … Good Jameis (1st half) and Bad Jameis (2nd half). Not the first time we’ve seen that act, nor will it be the last. His 2nd half passing stats were abysmal. Big question IMO is … WHY? What changed near halftime that brought out the worst in Jameis instead of the best?

Getting rolled up on (leg) MIGHT have had some impact, but I don’t think it was as significant as some have made it out to be (neither did the announcers apparently). Jameis had several runs after that which someone on a bum leg couldn’t have made. Plus if he was hurting that bad, he should’ve been replaced obviously.

No, I think he came unhinged at the inferior play of our OLine. They were atrocious as a group at BOTH run blocking AND pass blocking in the 2nd half especially, and it was getting both Jameis & Peyton killed. Bucs defense did enough for us to win that game, but the Bucs offense fell short time after time.

Virtually all of that can be laid at the feet of the Bucs OLine … the ENTIRE OLine AND it’s coaches AND it’s architect. Our 2 tackles (Donovan Smith & Dotson) are BOTH way too slow way too often. Benenoch is a joke (a bad joke at that). Jensen is a penalty waiting to happen. I’m not even seeing anything out of Marpet nowadays to brag about (he’s become ‘average’?). Warhop should’ve been gone a long time ago (and will be soon I’m confident). Meanwhile, the architect of this mess … a mess 5 years in the making … saddles everyone else with the impact of his lack of ‘vision’ and poor decision-making. Dear Glazer Boyz: Put on your big-boy pants, can these wannabees and bring in some real leadership.

  107. D1QB Says:

    Troy,

Trubisky has been out since before thanksgiving. Today is his first game back
and against an excellent defense and the best d coordinator in the league. Prior to his injury He was playing his best ball. This is his first year in the Offense.

Goff played against the best defense in the league and the best defensive player in the league. Also, and this is a big deal for a QB …especially one from California, Chicago has set records for the lowest temperature on this date. It’s freaking freezing cold. There’s those and the fact that Goff is a timing passer and the Bears disrupted his timing with pressure. McVay for all the help He gives his QB , failed to help him succeed by running the ball more.

And yes slants, curls, outs, angles, drags , all easy throws, are all part of the Bucs offense. Screens ….I’ve yet to seen one. Or maybe can’t recall when I’ve seen one but it’s not frequent. I have to believe that personnel is limiting scheme but
I’m guessing. Fankly, I am beginning to wonder if the Coach has mentally handicapped himself by avoiding the play for so long that it lacks primacy.

To your statement, if you understood the scheme you would understand how and when “help” is given. It’s not to the extent of some coaches or schemes but it’s there nevertheless. Why a 4th yr starter needs to be “helped” is a big question .

  108. Bucsfanman Says:

O-line a “D-“?! Man, that’s being generous Joe! It was so bad yesterday, so very bad.
What irks me again with this coaching staff is the inability to adjust. We saw JW running for his life in the 2nd half, his eyes said it all. Adjustments? Nope not us, just keep running those deep routes we’ll hit one eventually! SMH! Why can’t the Bucs run short passing plays?! Are we allergic to them, like the run?!
Get the ball out of the QBs hand quickly to avoid the rush. It’s not complicated, there’s no mystery. Adjust!

  109. Phil Says:

At least Koetter has gotten us in a position to draft ahead of the Browns this year.

  110. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I actually like Jason, but i do have to say… how in the hell is it possible that we are just FORCED to leave Benenoch in there because we dont have a decent backup? How is that possible??

Remember when we used to have solid backups like Ted Larson?… who actually starts for Carolina now…

  111. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

I think Jamies sucks 2nd half because he can’t handle other teams half time adjustments

  112. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

7423, i didn’t realize Jameis was the one responsible for making halftime adjustments.

  113. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Correction from above, i believe Larson is actually with the Dolphins now.

  114. SenileSenior Says:

I agree with much of what you have said. We have a dilemma. The Glazers have very tough decisions to make regarding Licht.
    _____
I hope they keep him. We need to reorganize and bring in a President of Football Operations if they can find someone who is qualified. We should bring in a new head coach and make other coaching staff changes irregardless.

We need some continuity. We need to make enough changes to get to the next level sooner than later.

    Go Bucs!!!!!

  115. SenileSenior Says:

P.S. I f we do the reorganization that I’ve suggested. It would mean that Shelton Quarles would be out of a job. Unless, of course he were the one promoted to the position. I have no knowledge to make me think that would happen.

    ______
    Go Bucs!!!!

  116. Jameis Wienstien Says:

Clean house, fresh start, false hope, rinse, and repeat. It’s a Bucs life for me!

  117. 813bucboi Says:

the coaches have screwed licht over…..with that said, its time to clean house….

    KRIS RICHARD 4 HC!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  118. TOM Says:

I hear a lot of fans mentioning different names for HC but nothing as far as a GM. Whose got some names other than Dungy or Brooks? What about Rich McCay as President of football operations or GM? Just a thought. Who else?
