Playoffs?

December 7th, 2018

Cart-before-the-horse talk.

Dirk Koetter has no use for your talk about a potential playoff run.

In a sitdown with multimedia maven Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com, your Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching, yams-eating coach couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Smith asked Koetter about what the final four games of the season mean and that since the Bucs are mathematically still alive for a playoff berth, if that means fans can expect high-intensity games.

Koetter said, yes, the games will be high-energy but was aghast Smith even used the word “playoffs.”

While Koetter’s response was significantly more measured than the famous shriek of former Colts coach Jim Mora, Koetter said the Bucs in no way should be thinking about playoffs.

“Right now we are not in a position that we should be talking about playoffs,” Koetter said. “We should only be focusing on our opponent that particular week and as we sit here today, that’s the Saints.

“We are going to have to play every bit as good as we did last week, and probably then some.”

Joe fully agrees with what Koetter is saying. However, Joe cannot blame fans for thinking playoffs. Without hope, you have an empty stadium where free tickets cannot be given away. And since the Bucs are not yet eliminated from a wild card berth, Joe has no issue whatsoever if fans are thinking, “If the Bucs can only win their final four… “

Pining for a borderline miracle to end a 10-year playoff drought is sure a lot more fun than reading about a potential defensive end from East Cornfield State being selected in the draft that is four months away.

I’ll take some of those free tickets, Glazers! I’ll need some plane tickets too unfortunately.

    Go Bucs!

Even if no playoffs, I want to see the team do well and continue to progress. The defense has made a miraculous recovery, and the offense is still potent even without a competent running game and with OJ on IR. There is a lot to be excited about for next year should this team continue to perform how they have the past two weeks. Lest we not forget Jameis hasn’t turned over the football. That’s absolutely progress in his development. Keep it going guys!

At least for now we’ve gotten rid of all the losers whining for losses so we’ll get a better draft pick…..I predict with 100% certainty that if we lose…..they will return with vigor until the end of the season. SICKENING!

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

    ^^agree

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

6 to 7 wins was all that was predicted by local and national media. Why has the goal post been moved? It’s clear that reporters aren’t happy unless everything is on fire, and chaos. You predict 6-7 but in media speak that’s really 8-9? ..smh

  5. Eric Says:

    perfect response from Dirk.

  6. Robert Says:

I just hope they take a dive so we can get a better pick. we need a QB out of this draft!

  7. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Hey, I am happy we proved know it all Cynthia Frelund wrong when she said the Bucs would only win 2 – 4 games this season… If we can shame her even more by running the table and making the playoffs, I will be a really happy camper!

  8. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

They beat the worst team in the NFL and then beat a team that is done with a qb with a bum wing…this is just like after the first NO game: bucs and super bowl….uhhhh same problems in first game still are going today; defense still terrible, OL terrible and no legit starting RB….only thing different is the Kicker may be better but then why didnt licht sign santos from day 1? FIRE LICHT

  9. SOEbuc Says:

    Robert

And who the hell would that QB in the first round be? Great choice over one of the many spectacular DL and CB.

  10. 813bucboi Says:

i think JPP would disagree…..JPP is sure talking about the playoffs…..
    **************************************************************
But the Bucs cannot be concerned with that, said Bucs defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. The playoffs are on now he said as the Bucs are in a win-or-die mode.
“We know that,” JPP said today. “Our playoff game has started already. We lose one, we’re out.”

but to hear dirk say: “Right now we are not in a position that we should be talking about playoffs,” Koetter said.

i understand focusing on the opponent but you have to have an ultimate goal in mind…..like reaching the playoffs…..

dirk makes it seem like there aint a chance in hell we could make the playoffs…..and he’s right…not with this staff…

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  12. denjoe Says:

We all see what a master motivator he is. smh

  13. 813bucboi Says:

i can picture the scene now….lol…

before the team breaks for individuals, JPP gathers everyone and says, “look, our time is now!!!…we have a chance…i was on a team that was in this same position…we can do this…we can make the playoffs and win it all!!!!”….

team mates are fired up knowing they still have a chance….

then, after practice, dirk says: “Right now we are not in a position that we should be talking about playoffs,” …….sucking the life out of players…..JPP puts his head in his hands while GMC is smiling….lol….

Realistically, I don’t see much hope for a playoff spot this season however, it would be one heck of a story if it happened. As long as the wins keep coming anything is still possible.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

To Little..Too Late Joe. And I fault Dirk Koetter. All he had to do was start this season with a new fresh DC who knew what he was doing. Its really sad. With all of our Offense, we should have at least 3 more wins. And DIRk is responsible.
I will NOT..give him a pass. No Excuses Mr Koetter! You must go at seasons end.
Win Out? Playoffs? You kiddin me? Honey, please pout me another round of the..Queens Crown (Royal) that is.

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

This Sunday will determine what happens. If we can get past New Orleans we can beat any of the other teams left on our schedule. The Saints will be a challenge. The only positive I can see is that the Saints do not HAVE to win this game…they are already in great shape playoffwise.

If we win on Sunday the bandwagon will strain with all the new jumpers on board.

  17. Alanbucsfan Says:

He talks like a coach whose main concern is stats, especially offensive stats, and not wins

  18. BUC IT Says:

I bought my ticket and plane ticket. I want to be there when we wreck the saints Super Bowl hopes by locking them out of the #1 seed.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs vs. (s)Aints have always been dogfights going all the way back to 1976 when the Bucs hit the field. In fact, first team Tampa Bay beat was the Saints. I would like to see Jameis run a few no huddle plays. A couple of 2-minute drills would work, too. Bucs have to bring their best game as refs will be all over them. Go Bucs!! Weather will be iffy Sunday.

  20. This is our year!!! Says:

Just win baby!! Win this week and we can start dreaming. Go Bucs!!
