Jason Licht Will Have Help

December 30th, 2018

“Look, Glazer. these guys have good insight, but they advised me not to wear this sport jacket during interviews. That ain’t right.”

Team Glazer has cut a check for a consulting firm, per NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Now consulting firms aren’t necessarily a good thing. See the Buccaneers’ recent marketing as Exhibit A.

But when it comes to finding a head coach, there is a group out there with a track record, per Schefter’s Twittering tonight..

“Buccaneers’ GM Jason Licht is leading the team’s HC search along with the search firm, Korn-Ferry, led by Jed Hughes, per source. Korn-Ferry helped Texans with Bill O’Brien, Falcons with Dan Quinn, Chiefs with Andy Reid, Seahawks with Pete Carroll and Jaguars with Doug Marrone.”

No word on the Korn-Ferry referrals that failed.

Joe likes this call by Team Glazer a lot. Hopefully, the group was put on retainer several weeks ago and is far along in the process.

Me thinks that Jason Licht needs to be Fireeeed!!

  2. MadMax Says:

Nice! There needs to be more than one head involved in this….

  3. Tbbucs3 Says:

Here’s why Jason Licht was not fired and it’s pretty obvious.

The Glazer brother do not trust their ability to find a new head coach or GM on their own so they decided to keep their puppet to do so.

It’s pathetic, any other NFL owners who are actually football people would not keep a GM who has screwed up this much around. A football owner would of ended this nonsense years ago.

  4. RealBucFan Says:

They told Browns to hire Hugh Jackson……..

  5. WalkdaPlank Says:

Can’t wait to watch Licht draft Ricky Aguayo out of FSU in the 2nd round!

  6. Thrill Says:

Korn-Ferry is a CYA sideshow to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Licht already has a handshake agreement with Arians who has a plan to rehabilitate Winston and that plan was sold to the Glazers. Hence Licht keeps his job by delivering Arians. Simple.

  7. Mike in MO Says:

Please no more PAC-12 players. That conference is trash.

  8. Miken Says:

This firm also found hue for the Browns and a few other horrific hires

  9. OneBucPerson Says:

Just get an EVP FFS, Dungy or Brooks preferably.

  10. Stu Says:

Meanwhile are the Glazers working behind the scenes conducting their own search?

  11. Dave Says:

That tells us we likely don’t have someone lined up yet like many thought.

This search may go on for awhile.

  12. Eyepatch savage Says:

Where else beside TB, does ownership keep a failed GM to lead another HC search? Welcome to Cleveland south. A total joke.

  13. Eyepatch savage Says:

Where else does ownership allow a failure of a GM lead a coaching search. Welcome to the new Cleveland. What a joke!

  14. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Well Hue did help the Browns….get draft picks.

  15. Tom S. Says:

Glazer Babies are the worst owners in the NFL. This should tell you all you need to know about their incompetence. Licht’s record over 5 years is WORSE than Dominik’s. Licht had a blank check every year and top 10 picks because he sucked at his job. Naturally he was retained.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

They should have hired me. I’d have told them to be on the phone with the Steelers at 7:15p ET offering a deal for Tomlin.

Heck Glazers, you can have that advice for only a pittance, just cut me a check for $60k and we’ll call it even.

  17. Eyepatch savage Says:

Where else does ownership allow a failed GM to lead a 2nd coaching search? Welcome to the new Cleveland. What a joke

The Glazer family listened to a former Buc and an FSU booster club to take the off the field nightmare QB that got Koetter fired. They need a GPS to get out of bed every morning.

  19. RealBucFan Says:

I love the dogging of Licht, here’s a fact, hes drafted the talent (As much as ya’ll cry about Winston, hes the best QB in franchise history, stats dont lie, Mike Evan’s, best WR in franchise history, but wait, WR needs a QB to throw them the ball, Hargreaves, this should have been his breakout season, cant control injuries, OJ Howard, enough said on OJ. Plus his FA rookies, Brate, Humphries, and Barber. AND let’s add Marpet, Donavan Smith, Chris Godwin, Kwon Alexander, Kendall Beckwith, Justin Evan’s and Vita, I can keep going.) GMs draft and bring in talent for coaches to coach to win. We have lots of talent, talent to be a 9 to 12 win team. But when coaching fails you lose, Licht has hit on 50% of his draft picks, that’s way better than average, sure he has made mistakes, but no gm is perfect. Look at facts guys, get over Aguyo, he was all time best kicker NCAA history, worth the pick, you dont know mentally he will falter and fail, it happens, get over it. Jason Licht your my GM, co.ing from 27 year season ticket holder.

ulch just more of the same. The Carousel of Despair continues… These clowns may be as bad as Culverhouse.

  21. AleteredEgo Says:

I told you this was going the get worse….this is merely the beginning of the abyss…gee….Tampa is not a good career stamp on one passport….the collective GM/Owners/headhunters are going to have to add a PR firm to cram the next sheet sandwich down the Tampa fans throats …..desperation….blind leading the blind…at least they are all millionaires when the sheet hit the fan

  22. Stevbobucsfan Says:

I am with joe. I hope this search firm started weeks ago with this new H.C search. Too many teams are gonna need Hcs not so concerned about the HC candidates as much as I am about assistants. Many times I’ve seen new HCs not getting the assistants they want to start a new job with because they’re late in the hiring process

  23. Troy Says:

How’s their track record finding a competent GM? It’s just as important as the coach especially with this franchise. Licht has a poor draft history and a putrid free agency signing history. What competent coach would want to have Licht as their GM based on the history we have seen with the Bucs?

  24. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Jason Licht = Mark Dominic

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

About 2 weeks ago I said Licht was probably sellin everybody down the river but himself. And he’s still gonna be GM. A regular Benedict Arnold he is!!

  26. Tbbucs3 Says:

Except Dominic could actually put together a solid defense

  27. Joseph Mamma Says:

Can we have Korn-Ferry make all the draft picks too?

  28. WalkdaPlank Says:

    RealBucFan

You really put Donovan Smith on your list of great Licht pickups?

You must not be a real buc fan after all lol

  29. Joe Says:

Where else does ownership allow a failure of a GM lead a coaching search.

    Cincinnati.

  30. BrianBucs Says:

K-F should be helping the Glazers find a new GM

  31. Not there yet Says:

It doesn’t matter how many people are in on the head coaching search because at the end of the day they still have to choose from the list of candidates that are gathered. Consulting firm doesn’t say hire this guy they recommend. Please grant these owners wisdom for once in their lives to make a good hire

  32. Tbbucs3 Says:

It’s sad that the Bucs are a worse version of the Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals allow their team to be average year in year out.

The Bucs allow their team to be BAD year in year out.

Fan deserve better, the Glazers decision to retain Jason Licht is truely a disappointment to Bucs fans. 5 years is a large enough sample size, the GM is not gonna turn it around all of a sudden. He is what he is. A bad general manager.

  33. AleteredEgo Says:

The coaches have to agree to coach here….5 coaches in 10 years…leading the league in dysfunction…sketchy QB….back stabbing GM….clueless owners….Bucs are a bottom of the barrel HC job

  34. RealBucFan Says:

Walkdaplank, yes I do, he is a starting LT or RT for every team in NFL, The guy has been a rock at LT for us, pressure never comes from left side, it always comes from right side, it’s why Jameis has to throw across his body when scrambling, hes always ducking Dotsons missed blocks, and when there is a hole in run game its behind Ali and Donovan. You dont know what your watching man. Wow.

  35. Troy Says:

Amen Tbbucs3. And this is why we have a culture of losing; because we refuse to fire all of the losers.

  36. RealBucFan Says:

I love the hatred towards Licht, ya’ll will be praising him when we get a competant coach and get to playoffs. It’s how Buc fans roll. Its complain complain complain, but if we win oh wait I love Licht hes great GM. You guys incompetent.

  37. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Wait RealBucFan,

“He is a starting LT or RT for every team in the NFL”

    What are you talking about?

I mean I think he’s OK but that’s way over the top.

  38. Ndog Says:

Man you all are some whiny cry baby mother fuc***s!

  39. WalkdaPlank Says:

    RealBucFan

Unbelievable. You actually believe Donovan “Wild West saloon doors” Smith would be the starting left tackle for every other team in the league? That’s wild man. Why do you think your savior Licht himself has given Ali a contract but not Smith? Hint: Smith sucks.

Also your golden boy Licht clearly doesn’t realize that the 2nd round of the NFL Draft is where the real picks are made.

    Spence
    Aguayo
    Rojo

  40. WalkdaPlank Says:

A hypocritical statement Ndog considering you are always whining here along with the rest of us.

  41. Dave Says:

This is a tough gig to fill. It has always been tough to get good coaches to come here. We got lucky with Dungy. He was actually the Bucs 3rd choice. The first two declined the job. Gruden we traded for. Since then we’ve been getting mostly inexperienced people. Raheem and Koetter were never head coaches before. Lovie Smith was, but he had big connections here. Schiano never coached in the NFL before.

So we don’t do well finding great coaches that want to come here. Sure we are talking about Harbaugh and McCarthy and Arians. But so is every other team that has an opening. Obviously someone is going to take the job. But it will likely be either a desperate retread or someone looking to get their first crack at a head coaching job.

  42. ManzielMadness Says:

LOL Donovan Smith will be the reason our QB gets maimed.
    Signed
    -Winston’s Shoulder

  43. Ray Rice Says:

Sh111T! The Korn and Tooth Ferry crew are the same MF’s that referred Nick Saban to Miami and Bobby Petrino to Atlanta. F That. I’d take Byron Leftwich over those two MF’s.

  44. Wesley Says:

They could have consulted me for much less.

  45. James Walker Says:

If they have to look for the HC then they have already failed in the search. They already have a “good” coach. They need a hire as impactful as Dungy to turn this trainwreck into a winner. A “good” coach is not enough they need a “great” coach.

  46. #1bucfan Says:

Y’all so called bucs fans quit hating. Do you think it’s going to help not at all I understand not everyone one is going to agree but to be dogging an trashing anyone on the team is immature an pethetic grow up you so called fans the ones crying an spouting cuz they didn’t get what they want I’ve bin a fan since the 90s. I don’t agree with all there moves either but get over yourselves. There’s a reason none of you are GMs

  47. Bucko40 Says:

Just remember that Licht was the GM that draft the Dumpster Fire QB we currently have!

  48. Pick6 Says:

This would be Licht’s first actual coaching hire. Lovie hired him and the Koetter hire was sort of inevitable

  49. Hodad Says:

I just consulted with my firm, Jack Daniels, and Jim Beam. They advised me to take some valiums, and wash it down with two more shots.

  50. Pete I Says:

    New Head Coach = 0-0
    Licht = 27-53
    Winston = 21-33
    Since Malcolm’s Stroke = 77 – 131

    Updated Resumes

  51. Pete I Says:

“When Jason Licht became the Bucs’ general manager, Tampa Bay was the worst team in the NFC South. Five years later, the Bucs are still the worst team in the South”

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If he only just hired them, then that means he isn’t going after Jim Harbaugh.

And he can’t already have a ‘hand shake’ agreement with Arians…that would be tampering.

Aside from that, Arians would not be a good HC hire.

  53. Pewter Says:

Anybody have thoughts on any college up and comers?

    Lincoln Riley…

  54. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m not a Licht hater, but I thought it was time for him to go. Maybe the Glazers think the coaches were the main reason for draft picks not developing and a new coaching staff could bring the best out of them. If Lovie did have full control over the draft in Lichts first 2 seasons then I can see them overlooking those and in their minds be giving Licht a fair shot with a new staff. Another bad year and he’s done, though. Hell, maybe the firm recommends to the Glazers that Licht should be fired. It could still happen.

  55. mike10 Says:

Licht has no reason to still be the GM on this team

  56. Sean Says:

So licht had lovie when he got here….they fired lovie for Dirk who was here already which everyone was ok with…now he fired Dirk which everyone seems ok with…when has jason licht had his guy in place? Oh wait he hasn’t…

He is not the reason we have Jameis…jameis was the pick when we had the 1st pick (if the Mariota mob still exists I’m sorry it’s TRUE…Marcus is not a good nfl qb) how many QBs we going to run out of town?

  57. jmarkbuc Says:

What does it say that the Glazers have hired a consulting firm?

Licht isn’t good enough on his own…and yet we still keep him?

  58. RealBucFan Says:

    Walkadaplank

I said Smith as a starting LT OR RT. Also Lichts 2nd round picks, Marpet, Smith, Justin Evan’s, MJ Stewart, and CD3, now CD3 I believe can be a elite corner in NFL. And I’m not giving up on ROJO, that was a Dirk pick. Not Jason, we all know that. ROJO has ton of upside, needs the coaching.
