The Jameis-Jensen Catfight

December 10th, 2018

Sparks sideline unrest.

Joe was in the press box Sunday so Joe didn’t see this when it happened.

Fans watching at home or at the bar on TV did. It was when Bucs players had to separate America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, from center Ryan Jensen while on the Bucs’ sidelines.

The Bucs had just had a horrible first-half series in which Jensen helped kill it with two penalties in four plays including a personal foul.

Joe loves the way Jensen plays to the whistle and through the whistle. Sadly, the zebras don’t often appreciate Joe’s taste in football,  so Jensen often gets flagged for being a badass, which apparently is frowned upon in Roger Goodell’s league.

At the time, the game was close and every play critical. No word on what Jameis said to Jensen but clearly he didn’t appreciate it.

Jensen was asked after the game about the dustup and he waved it off.

“Families fight,” Jensen said. “Me and Jameis are highly competitive guys and we just had simple words. We talked about it. We got cooled down and talked about it and everything is good.

“You have to put it behind you right now. We went and talked about it and cleared the air and we’re good.”

In his postgame pressure, Jameis wouldn’t cough up what he said that flipped Jensen out.

“Brothers have disagreements, so it wasn’t that much,” Jameis said. “We just have got to get everyone tuned back in and go out there and make sure that we are all for each other.”

Look, if Jameis told Jensen to get his head out of his arse because he was killing the offense, how is that wrong? Joe’s happy as hell the Bucs have a quarterback who isn’t scared to tell a teammate to either shape up or get the hell off the field.

Joe just wishes Jameis would do this more with other teammates. He can start with Caleb Blowabloch any time now.

That’s the most animated I’ve seen Jameis in a hot minute, gotta admit I loved it. Someone has to reign Jensen in because he keeps doing stupid stuff like that personal foul on Sunday.

  2. Buc believer Says:

Love love love the fact that Jameis will try to straighten out a broken arrow! Look at the fire in his eyes! Too bad our coach and Gm are to big P…ssies to do anything!

  3. jjbucfan Says:

Fire Koetter tonight- Stop the madness!! Once again we lost a game we should have won. Let Monken play out the string. Koetter will tear our locker room up more on his way out. Warhop sucks Donkey D, he is literally the worst coach on the staff. Has Dirk even mentioned his name? Insanity. Dirk throws his players under the bus every week but not his garbage staff. How about the worst ST coach in the league? Nope still here. Please spare the fans, get it over with. The entire league knows it is coming, what difference does it make at this point (LOL- thanks Hillary).

  4. Fire Light Says:

Glad to see Jameis being the leader! Great leadership on his part. The OLine sucked today. He should’ve yelled at D. Smith some too.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

    Blowabloch

    Very nice. ..

  6. DB55 Says:

Jensen was the first to get Winston when Winston went down. So I’m sure it’s not that serious. Personally, I love the passion but can’t understand how Jensen is the highest paid center in the league. He gets a lot of penalties and pushing someone in the back isn’t exactly bassadd.

This game came down to 1 play. 2nd qrt :29 secs left. TD pass to Brate.

Dotson gets bullrushed by Rankins who pushes Dotson into Winston. Winston’s knee buckled then he goes into the locker room for halftime. I’m sure that knee swelled and he probably got a shot for the pain. When he came back out he looked like a completely different player.

Joe, Koetter said you can’t get your QBs hit that much, how many hits did he take? 5 rushes and 4 sacks plus the hit to the knee that’s 10, how many more?

  7. Bucsfan3 Says:

Love Jameis and his fiery leadership.

  8. Getaclue Says:

We grossly overpaid Jensen. He is a career backup, one year wonder and cost this team drives trying to be a fake tough guy when we could of got a real thought guy and real starter like Mike Pouncey for a fraction of the price. Licht gambles on small school and project players and throws money on free agency at unproven career backups and questionable signings

  9. WillieG Says:

Which coach was that? It seemed to me he was telling JW to STFU. Did anyone else get that impression?

  10. __TGH__ Says:

Finally saw a game on live TV. I remember the replay and Ronde saying he didn’t know why the flag was thrown. Jensen is definitely on team probation from prior calls and on the refs radar for extracurriculars. Jameis went after him once the flag was thrown and Jensen told him it was a BS call and to lay off. They worked it out once they saw the replay at halftime. End of story.

  11. Joe Says:

Joe, Koetter said you can’t get your QBs hit that much, how many hits did he take? 5 rushes and 4 sacks plus the hit to the knee that’s 10, how many more?

Four sacks, 10 quarterback hits, five rushes.

  12. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Bring on Mike McCarthy and some wizard defensive coordinator

  13. Shane Says:

Benecoch , Donovan Smith , etc etc

  14. Dre Says:

Joe you do it away from the cameras … not on the sideline … it’s different if he’s yelling at the whole line but he shouldn’t have acted like that with just Jensen … if he’s upset at him let him know in the locker room… this isn’t how Aaron rodgers or Tom Brady would handle it

  15. Dre Says:

Getaclue you have no clue what your talking about … try watching other games besides Bucs games and other team highlights

  16. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Dre- Brady has had epic meltdown screaming at Bill O’Brien and josh mcdaniels, just off the top of my head. That guy is always yelling at people.
Rodgers has been known to argue with his coach as well.
Jameis is holding Jensen accountable and showing the team that this BS isn’t gonna fly. I see no problem with it.

  17. adam from ny Says:

bottom line, and no one is discussing it:

we were playing a step ahead of the saints, and brees was genuinely frustrated…then when santos missed the 2nd field goal, the bubble burst, the team lost steam, and subconsciously all the players heard that little voice in there head saying “not again johnny”…from that point on they were playing a step behind the saints for the rest of the game…that 2nd field goal completely drained this team of what they were building these past 2 and a half weeks…the missed kicks force them to mentally throw in the towel…and their bodies followed suit thereafter…this is a fragile group trying to turn the corner, and this lengthy ongoing kicking circus is eating the players up silently…every time a field goal is missed, they say to themselves “ok be supportive, next play, everything’s gonna be ok”…then they quietly plummet inside

  18. isrBuc Says:

Highest payed center in the league and already has 100 yards in penalties this season. many are after the whistle. that’s an F and not that the running game goes anywhere with him either.

  19. Warrenfb12 Says:

Jameis always seems to have these incidents when he is being frustrated by a defense.

  20. Ryan Says:

Jensen played like trash but how many games has Jameis ruined with turnovers and suspensions? Depending on what Jameis said and how he articulated it, it may not have came across properly or held any weight.

  21. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Bucs players actually showing frustration for losing? You mean not like big fat softie Gerald McCoy giggling and collecting paychecks??

  22. Defense Rules Says:

Jameis was unnerved in the 2nd half of yesterday’s game, mostly as a result of his OLine’s poor protection IMO. And Jensen’s penalties didn’t help any.

Reading one of the articles about the Bears 15-6 win over the Rams in cold Chicago last night, it’s obvious (to me at least) that even high-flying QBs can become ‘unnerved’ when constantly pressured (like Jameis was in the 2nd half of yesterday’s game). Jared Goff was under constant pressure from the relentless Bears defense, and he performed much like Jameis did yesterday it sounds like. Great quote …

“One of the most memorable sights in the game was Goff looking uncomfortable, huffing the cold air, looking totally shook. He seemed nervous all night and never had a clean pocket to get his legs under him in.”

Totally shook? Nervous? Unable to ‘get his legs under him’? Goff had 180 yds passing, threw FOUR INTs, and sported a 45% completion rate. Sounds all too familiar if you’re a Bucs fan.

  23. isrBuc Says:

everybody said that if jamies can limit TO everything will be fine but i think this is his game. now he plays too conservative. he holds the ball too long, he scrambles all the time and not just because of the OL. he is doing everything he can to stay TO free but he’s not good an accurate enough to carry an offense playing like that

  24. Dooshlarue Says:

    Ryan

We went 2-1 while JW was suspended, so the answer to that part of your question is…….1.
    Turnovers?
    I can’t count that high.

  25. Realbucfan941 Says:

    Willie g
That was warhop. Probably telling James he has it and to sit down. Too bad here can’t be the passionate teaching his line how to block.

  26. richbucsfan Says:

Let’s see…#3 gets his head handed to him by NO’s defense…has a sideline argument with Jensen, and has #69 fall on his knee…Hey, that’s a recipe for great stats…NOT… No running game, no offensive line play, horrific special teams, that’s the recipe for a loss. Too many things going wrong too late in the season…time for a change.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

No to Mike McCarthy, a coach who just proved he’s a failure.

I have no problem with Jameis holding Jensen accountable. I like Jensen and I like that he’s mean. I don’t even mind if he gets one penalty per game establishing the nasty attitude. And, contrary to a couple claims here, he is a good center.

The issue I have with him is all about timing. Keep it between the whistles. Don’t overdo it. Don’t kill important drives.

Right now, he reminds me of Jeremy Trueblood with his attitude.

And the ref was right to call a penalty there, he just called the wrong one. It was an illegal block to the back.

To say guys like Brady and Manning never call out players like Jameis did is completely wrong. Yes, you can wait until after the game, but then the issue continues for the rest of the game. How many penalties did Jensen get after Winston yelled at him? None.

  28. Bucsfanman Says:

Jensen’s not the problem. LT and RT are the problems. Good gawd!
Of course, we didn’t do Jameis any favors with the play calling either!
    Sure, let’s keep Koetter! Lol!

  29. Jonzey Says:

We need to replace Dotson and Benenoch because they are hurting us. We should have gotten D. James in 2018 Draft. Give JW the money please lock him in.

  30. Jonzey Says:

We need a true playing runningback, Barber is a backup, Jones is garbage, and we need to let Rogers go.

  31. lambchop Says:

It looked as if Jameis mouthed to Jensen “What did you say” or “What you gonna do about it”. Not sure though. But, from what Jameis said after, he was pissed that Jensen’s extracurricular hurt the team. I agree with Jameis. You can’t F around with the Saints. If you give em an inch, they’ll take a mile. It’s a division rival, our mathematical chances of making a wild card (while all other bubble wildcard teams lost) is on the line, coaches livelihood is dependent on the out come of these last few games, etc.

I like Jensen’s play, but play at the whistle, not through it unless you want to be a selfish “badass”. You ain’t a badass if you’re single-handedly penalizing your team for extracurricular ish that has no bearing on the outcome of the game in a positive way. That’s just undisciplined chest pounding. Warhop sucks, btw.

  32. lambchop Says:

    @Bucsfanman,

Did you forget the RG? Benesuck? Dotson (RT) is old so we need to replace him and D. Smith is as lazy as Chris Baker. He loafs on plays way too much.

More than Benesuck, I think D. Smith is gonna get Jameis KILLED from the blind side.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

    lambchop- I didn’t forget him, he’s a GIVEN! LOL!
Smith and Dotson stood out big time! And NOT in a good way. The thing of it is, this is Smith’s 2nd straight terrible game. He’s getting worse week to week!

While the kicker should’ve made those kicks, the fact that we’re kicking FGs against the Saints instead of TDs is never a positive sign. Brees is a 1st ballot HOF’er and can rip ANY defense apart on most days. You better be scoring TDs.

  34. onetrickpony Says:

ha its not like Jenson was ever the only player who caused a penalty yesterday,so someone tell me why did jw go after him specifically as I didn’t see the whole fiasco.
All I do know, is JW better put some meat on his bones especially before you go poke a bear

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is a reason why I treat people nice who serve me food and work on my car……there is a reason why QBs take their Oline out to dinner…….be nice to those who protect you.
But, there comes a time when they hurt the team and need to be called out.

I love Jensen’s attitude but he needs to avoid the personal fouls in crucial situations…..save them when we are up or down 28 points.

  36. Larry Woods Says:

One trick- 2 penalties in 4 plays seems like a very good reason to get after him🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

  37. Bob in Valrico Says:

The Dline play hurt the offense with all the penalties,no question. Penalties moved the ball backwards between snaps it seemed like 25 or more yards.so when Jensen got penalized on a call that was somewhat questionable Jameis went off on Jensen on the field. IMO its not Jameis job to be the team disciplinarian. The argument was on the field and I don’t see how it could help either player focus on the game. The argument was finished on the sideline
by Warhop who lit into both players especially Jameis, IMO.

Since he also has headbutted an opponent , poked a defender on the helmet he hasn’t exactly set the tone for team discipline. Not to mention having to be restrained by a coach to keep from going after a referee.

  38. Bob in Valrico Says:

Its unfortunate that we didn’t take better advantage of opportunities in the first half when the Saints weren’t playing as well. Godwin had a lot of drops in the game.
Jameis overthrew him on two deep balls. Jameis also threw some high
passes to Hump that he couldn’t bring down. We were let down by our kicker once again.
To his credit Jameis had some great runs and did a good job extending play s to get into the endzone in the first half.
Penalties and poor blocking By the Oline in the second half to do us in. I know Jameis was under a lot of pressure, and Jameis admitted to holding the ball too long, if nothing is there he needs to throw the ball away to avoid sacks.

  39. BrianBucs Says:

Hey Winston, Jensen will still be a Buc next season, and you may not be

  40. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

I was watching the game with my father n law and he said How our oline was horrible and if it wasn’t for Jameis it wouldn’t have even been close. I responded with you should see how many bucs fans want Jameis run out of town like he is the problem. Go back and look at the film and you will see Jameis not able to step into his throws due to the bad line protection as a result some high throws although were very catchable in my opinion. Field conditions didn’t help either. We need to fix this oline and quit ignoring the true problem with this team. Oh and get a solid RB to pair with Barber.

  41. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Hey Brianbuc be careful what you wish for moron!

  42. 813bucboi Says:

this team is a mess!!!!….lol….and dirk is even worse…..lol…

    KRIS RICHARD 4 HC!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  43. Reach87 Says:

Keep the HC, upgrade the players and process. Do what it takes to win consistently. Check the history…want to lose consistently, change HCs often. My opinion. Go Bucs!

  44. TOM Says:

JW wasn’t having a great game to be getting in anybody’s face. I didn’t see him going off on lazy ass D Smith or worthless Bennoch. Oh wait a minute there his brothas. Or how about when he was throwing all those interceptions & fumbling. Did anybody get in his face? I don’t think so.

  45. T REX Says:

Leaders don’t get suspended, benched and have your captaincy removed.

Sorry. Not buying the leader crap anymore.

  46. Jonzey Says:

JW needs a better line and runningback, look at the Rams Goff is not good but he has Gurley, look at the Cowboys Precott is not that good he has Elliot, look at Cam he has good game and bad but he has McCaffrey

  47. jjbucfan Says:

    Stupid BrianBucs is back- sweet

  48. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Jameis told Jensen his momma used BBQ sauce from a bottle…
