Evans Is Being Targeted By Refs

December 16th, 2018

Victim.

In Joe’s mind, it’s clear. Mike Evans has entered Kellen Winslow territory.

The best Bucs receiver in franchise history is being targeted by officials. What does that mean? He’s being bird-dogged by zebras who are looking for him to make a penalty, even when one isn’t there.

The final straw for Joe to conclude this came late in the third quarter when a touchdown was wiped off the board on a phantom interference call on Evans.

The Bucs had second-and-19 from the Crows-23. Jameis hit Adam Humphries for a 14-yard gain to set up a third-and-five. But no, out came the yellow hanky. On a pretty designed play, the zebras claimed Evans was setting up a pick for Humphries. It wasn’t even close.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter was irate on the sidelines. Even FOX Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira said after watching the replay he didn’t see anything.

The Bucs never did convert on the series of downs and had to settle for a 28-yard field goal by Cairo Santos with 5:43 left in the third quarter.

It would be the final score of the game for Tampa Bay.

Winslow always whined and cried about interference. And then officials were so worn out about the constant haranguing, Winslow instead went from victim to villain.

Joe believes that is the case with Evans. It had been building for a while. But that play was so damn clean, the only logical reason for the penalty is that Evans is targeted and as such, referees are seeing things.

When is the NFL going to let interference calls be reviewed? Those are potentially game-swinging calls.

    Yep….

  2. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Refs still mad Mike Evans took a knee to protest police killing black people

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I think Joe is actually making sense for once

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Don’t forget in the end zone, on 3rd down, Evans is literally tackled before the ball gets there and the refs did not call that one.

  5. Buc'd Up Says:

Sofest big man I might have ever seen. Goes to the ground almost every catch immediately. Also rarely(if ever) powers for any extra yardage

  6. AJ Says:

I think the Bucs as a whole are getting singled out by Refs. Some really ticky-tack calls always go against us. Yet Baltimore can run the ball 40+ times with no holding calls. And get away with block in the back all game. Really a shame to see another nice defensive effort go to waste. What a heartbreaking season this has been.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

Evans earned some of the targeting. By now he has paid his dues.

We are getting treated unfairly by the refs. Evans has been targeted very blantently. It is a fact this year that the referees have been calling biased games against us

At first they were targeting Mike. But this has gone on so long and has become so blatent that they are now targeting the Buccaneers as a team.

We cannot expect to get a fair game called by the refs anymore. They have taken sportsmanship out of games like today.

  8. Buc believer Says:

So how do the Bucs respond?? He is a heeluva receiver but he is becoming a liability in that way??? Interesting dilemma.

  9. denjoe Says:

The Ravens play the Chargers on nfl network Saturday, So I knew by the way they are already billing it, that there was no way we were gonna win. lol

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    but remember

That call against the ravens for PI on hump to setup the bucs for a run in touchdown by barber was another BS call….

so it went both ways today

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Overall some pretty UNINSPIRING football played again today. Not sure the Bucs have played inspired football in like 10 years. I place this blame on the coaches and some of the players. GMC (bye bye) to name one.

Unfortunately, the best thing to do is a good old fashioned housecleaning. The only question at the end of this game was how did it improve our draft status?

  12. ben Says:

with Atlanta win aren’t bucs again in last place in division?

  13. Bob in Valrico Says:

Totally agree with this message.Who is the head referee. Time to put a focus on this travesty.Defensive players don’t get to take Evans head off to make a play.
    Lets flood with complaint letters.

  14. AlteredEgo Says:

He runs his mouth….basic human nature especially authority can only take so much before they will assert themselves….he should be smart enough to know that part of the game

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

    “I cant YAC , so I YAP”

    MEME Evans

“Most overrated player in the NFL”

    Kobe Evans

  16. Season Is Over Says:

It is hard to feel sorry for him. He made his reputation during his first two years in the league and that is still coming back to bite him. No shock there. It will turn one day. Maybe he should start getting more separation to make up for it.

  17. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

Our beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers unfortunately don’t have any clout or respect in NFL circles and it translates to the gridiron. I’ve felt this way for years but thought that I was being a homer. If it’s a fifty-fifty call, 90% of the time the ball goes to our opposition. It’s a Bucs life.

  18. Kalind Says:

Yep. It was horse crap. And I think the Glazers need to get involved here. They need to ORDER the officials to knock it off. Threaten a law suit if needed. This HAS to stop. The officiating in this game was a man Obamanation. Just the worst thing anyone has seen. Too many times they threw flags on the Bucs and IGNORED flagrant penalties.

Anyone see the hold on Grimes for the TD? Impossible to miss. No call.

  19. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

That’s what losers do…..blame the refs.

  20. JimmyJack Says:

It pisses me off because the refs have done way more then establish that they are watching Mike and will target him.

They are now being unfair and they are now targeting our Buccaneers as a team.

This is beyond targeting of one player. This is now a crime against my team.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Alvin. I will not blame the refs for losing.

But they called an unfair and completely unprofessional game today. That’s just a fact.

  22. Bobby M. Says:

He’s animated every time he doesn’t get the ball….that’s plain as day from my couch. Even watching him I think to myself…give it a rest already. I’m certain the refs having to listen to him are done with the dude. This team severely lacks leadership and maturity.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It was surely a BS call…….Evans is roughed up on almost every pass to him he is held..pushed…hit…..across the back……no calls.

  24. From76 Says:

I’m seeing the same thing. he gets mauled and no flag. The officials have it in for him. Remember they are part time help what do they care it’s not their real job. Get on the bad side of them your going to regret it.

  25. Bird Says:

    100 % agree

He gets Shaq treatment. He is so much bigger then dbs that guys touch him regularly with no call and when he touches someone else he gets penalized

It sucks cause he is so talented and you could tell it got in his head today.

  26. Maze Says:

Problem is Mike gets up every play crying for a flag. It’s ridiculous. he needs to grow up

  27. JimmyJack Says:

How many years did we sign Evans for?

Did we just commit that many years to our team getting targeted by the refs?

  28. D-Rome Says:

When is the NFL going to let interference calls be reviewed? Those are potentially game-swinging calls.

Agreed! This isn’t a Mike Evans issue. This is an NFL issue. These kinds of calls should be reviewed so that, at the very least, refs are held by a higher standard.

  29. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs have had to outplay the opposing team and the refs for years. Go look at the video record of 2001-2002. They did both. Result: only SB win. Same thing is going down only this time, it’s the offense who has to outplay the 2 parties. DK is choking them cos of being a HC. If he was still only the OC, we would be in the playoffs. Sigh. I hope the players don’t revolt.

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Every call…..every play…..any play should be subject to review…period….if a coach wants to risk losing a TO or a Challenge…..so be it. But there are BS penalties called in every game that can change the game as much as a turnover.

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s a valid point. It would be interesting to see the stats on OPI for Mike.
And somehow the guy gets a 1,000 yd season for the 5th straight year!
    Yea, he sucks! (Sarcasm!)

  32. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Maze, what are you talking about. For the last two seasons Mike has been extremely composed and doesn’t get irate when these no calls happen. Today he did get irate and for good reason. I was watching the game at a sports bar and couldn’t hear what M Pereira was saying, but I was certain he was saying that was a bad call when he reviewed it. This is Mike’s livelihood and he is risking his body and brain by doing so. I would be concerned if Mike wasn’t pissed off over such a horrible call that had a big impact on the game. You guys criticize McCoy for not having enough heart and Evans for having too much. You guys are truly awful. As a fan I was pissed at the bad call. I am ok if the player involved actually gets pissed off too.

  33. AceWigSplitta Says:

The league doesn’t like the Glazer’s bc they support Trump and I don’t care about them giving Tampa Super Bowls that makes a huge amount of money for the league also . Buccaneers games just always seem to have bad officiating and the only reason the Raiders were flagged so so many times a few years ago was bc they were wanting to move the team to Vegas.

  34. Maze Says:

Nah man Mike is always getting up off the ground looking for a flag

  35. OldBucFan Says:

As if Ref bias wasn’t enough announcer Matt Schelereth .. I wanted to punch my TV. More than once he was using the pronoun “WE” to describe the play of the Ravens. I finally turned the volume off.

  36. German Buc Says:

The ownership needs to talk to league officials about this issue. That was a shame! Even on Gamepass the announcers admitted it that all calls went the wrong direction!

  37. German Buc Says:

    Maze, but Mike is right!

  38. Phil Says:

Mike Evans was also being held on almost every play without the refs calling it and the Ravens offense was doing a lot of holding that wasn’t called. Crappy officiating once again.

  39. unbelievable Says:

    AGREED 100%.

He’s is being held and/or interfered with on at least 80% of plays and they are NEVER called, yet he gets flagged for the most incidental of contact. It’s complete BS.

Yesterday was some of the worst, one-sided officiating I’ve seen in a long time. They were letting the Raven’s Defenders tackle our guys while the pass was in the air, and also allowing them to hold on offense on every drive.

    F@ck the NFL
