Dirk Koetter Omits Gerald McCoy From His List Of Pro Bowlers

December 17th, 2018

“We’ll both be on vacation soon, G.”

A seventh consecutive Pro Bowl appearance might not be in the cards for Gerald McCoy.

And it appears it wouldn’t be if Dirk Koetter had a vote.

NFL coaches do have a weighted vote in the Pro Bowl selection process but cannot vote for members of their own team.

Today, Koetter was asked to share his thoughts on who is Pro Bowl-worthy on his roster, given that the voting for the annual honor is over and the revelation of who made the teams is just hours away.

Koetter named Lavonte David, Jason Pierre-Paul and Mike Evans. And he said offensive line voting is a “wild card,” and Ali Marpet is “pretty close” to being a Pro Bowl guard.

That was it.

No McCoy.

Joe suspects McCoy will find his way to the Orlando event as an alternate named to the team when Aaron Donald or Sheldon Rankins can’t attend because of a Super Bowl commitment. Just a hunch.

Rank attempt at a SPIN. This isn’t news at all. Yall can do better than this. Write something else, like who might be coaching here next year?!!!

  2. Cobraboy Says:

Isn’t an “alternate” how ‘Murica’s Turnover Machine became “Murica’s quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston?

  3. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Blow it up

  4. D-Rome Says:

McCoy’s numbers are down. I understand there are a lot of variables as to how those numbers are achieved. For instance, solo tackles are way down but one would have to figure out how many opportunities he’s had to tackle vs. when he’s completely away from the action (i.e. outside runs).

  5. Etzel Says:

Dwight Howard of the NFL might be a sad boy if he doesn’t get his annual “Best player on the worst defense” award.

  6. Buc believer Says:

About time Clueless Koetter does something right!

  7. Jean Lafitte Says:

why? …at this point I think Vita Vea is playing better than GMac

  8. Not there yet Says:

Probowl just doesn’t mean anything Geraldine may get there as an alternate which people bashed Winston for but we all know how mediocre Geraldine is but elite get off means so much even if that get off doesn’t get him anywhere

Pretty simple he’s not leading the team in sacks and is third on that list. Vea has 2 fewer tackles than him and missed like 6 games but I guess someone will come on here and tell me how valuable he is. He is the definition of mediocre and it wouldn’t be so bad if he was a decent leading but the only thing he’s good for is new article quotes that show pure softness and overhyping the competition. There was no need to call Lamar Jackson the second coming of mike Vick. Dude is garbage and that’s my opinion plus it’s the only one that matters in my world about Geraldine

  9. Dewey Selmon Says:

And that is how Winston got his only pro-bowl. 5 guys in front of him dropped out.

  10. JP_09 Says:

Don’t care, I’ll let the new GM and HC evaluate the talent on this team and go from there

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    JPP thats it……

marpet is laughable…..ive seen him get tossed around by no namers…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  12. tmaxcon Says:

Marpet is just a little better than hot garbage

  13. JimmyJack Says:

813……The pressure is off the coaches now. It’s over bro. I commend you for helping apply pressure all year. They faced the pressure and have crumbled.

Time for a new slogan I say.

  14. Dooshlarue Says:

Well Dirk might not be a great HC, but it’s obvious he hasn’t lost his mind!
I saw a “highlight “ of the Ravens running big on us yesterday and guess who was too busy playing patty cakes with a defender to notice ?

    Yeah, Ol’ Softie 93.

I can’t wait to be done with his sorry azz…..

  15. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Big fat softie Gerald McCoy!!!!

  16. Reach87 Says:

He’s older and has been thru 8 seasons as an outstanding DT on a team that hasn’t had much else on defense. Happens to every player. Those who hate his smile, hate all that money he has EARNED (your value is what someone with money will pay you), hate what he does in the community (Walter Payton MOTY nominee), what his team mates thought of him 6 other times (6 pro bowls) will take pleasure in the decline of a man who played the game they never (never) played, at a level they never could, and partially because of that was a better man than they could ever aspire to be…despite the fact that he played for a team they say they are fans of. Go Bucs!

    YES – PLEASE JOE!

Already articles and speculation is running wild, someone in JOE’s position (insider information – informed sources – connections) could shed some light on this story that possess any real intrigue to Bucs fans. I’m only watching the Cowboys game to see if Cowboys assistant coach Kris Richard has any positive interactions with Bucs players. That could be a possible sign.

As far as the Falcons game…..who really cares?

The only other story will be the DRAFT, which I am surprised we haven’t had four or five stories on that yet.

  18. sandwichman Says:

    @GhostofSchiano

Real talk Ghost. Real talk. I am liking Kris Richard more and more now. That fire tho could be what we need. Maybe @813bucboi is on to something here.

  19. chickster Says:

I really do not care what this guy says miss judging talent is his best asset

  20. Anonymous Says:

yeah joe right something that matters or is this the view

  21. bucanation Says:

Gerald Mcoy has been babied here for years he is a no show when its step up time we don’t need him trade him to the Raiders

  22. Dooshlarue Says:

    Reach87

Those are actually some very touching and deeply moving things you had to say about your hero, 93.

I guess if I was a total cuck I would agree with you completely.
    But, alas I am not.

I see and overpaid, underperforming player, who at best, is only concerned with himself and his bank account.

  23. bucanation Says:

    or the view

  24. tmaxcon Says:

    Reach87

Your super hero is a complete embarrassment to masculine men worldwide…. total fraud

  25. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

When is Dirk gonna vote for wins?

  26. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

David has done enough to get in. Up and down year for him. Hurt a few games and didn’t show a few others Last 2 or 3 he’s been balling but still wouldn’t get my vote. If I had one

  27. cmurda Says:

I read the article but could care less who is on Dirk’s Pro Bowl list. I’m much more concerned with who is on our new coach’s list. If Dirk somehow is the coach of this team after a 5-11, 6-10 or 7-9 record, then there better be extra security on the Skyway bridge.

Seriously Ghost. It’s never too early to talk draft as a Bucs fan these last dozen or so years

  28. Doc Says:

The Glazer’s were at the game trying to lure Newson, to come to the Bucs to become the G.M. for two years.

  29. Jim Says:

    What Reach said…

  30. NPRSageBoy Says:

Then Joe can starting call McCoy “America’s Three Techique, Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy” because that’s how JayMiss made the Pro Bowl when those more deserving passed.

  31. westernbuc Says:

BSPN has a featured article where Father Dungy explains that continuity is important for coaches. Goes on to talk about Rivera and Payton, both of which were nearly run out of town multiple times only to see it pay off.

But we’re the Bucs, so we’ll probably fire Koetter, hire some young guy that talks a big game, then watch it fall apart

  32. tmaxcon Says:

    westernbuc

Quoting a bum with a career losing record in the playoffs renders his bs less than meaningless.

  33. ATrain Says:

    WOW Joe WOW

    GMC is not aPro Bowler

    PERIOD

  34. bucanation Says:

Hey Joe I need to ask you something that is bothering me and I need an answer too last year you defended Coach Dirt the entire year and the begging if not half of this year ,and you led the charge to have him return as head coach for another season with the bucs .What qualities did you see in him that you and 25 % of fans on this site wanted his return and that the rest of had to endure what we knew would be a repeat of another horrid season and some fans want him back for another go around ?

  35. jjbucfan Says:

Western- we get it, if you listened to Koetter speak, he has been trying to get himself fired since week 5. He doesn’t want to be here. He should have been fired when Smitty was. The Glazers stubbornness and not wanting to give in to him is really what cost us this season, IMO. Monken completely capable of of interim HC.

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

McCoy hasn’t been great, but has been pretty good, and this may be his best season. Gerald has played much worse in previous years.

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

Much to do bout nothing. After all..McCoy will be here next year.. and Dirk?

  38. BigMacAttack Says:

Just saw McCaferry’s halfback pass for a TD on 4’th down. What a great play call with great execution. Why isn’t our coach smart enough to call plays like Norv Turner? Oh yeah, because our coach sucks and knows more than anyone else.

  39. bucanation Says:

Koetter looks like he might cry at his pressers hes lost all cofendence he has ever had . he starts the season cocky and as the losses mount he looks down not to make eye contact and doesn’t want to be there . I think he will be glad its over

  40. Pittsshore Says:

I bet he had his FSU anal plug on the top of the QB voting

  41. Ray Rice Says:

I’ll blame that to all the quadruple teams he gets.

  42. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

I’ll never forget Koetter coming out for his presser tossing bit-o-honey candies at the media members. My first though was dang Dirk has ran out of f!?$s to give.

  43. westernbuc Says:

    jj

If Koetter wanted out, it might be because the Glazers tried to replace him with Gruden.

Reminder, if the Glazers had their way, they’d have swapped our season with the Raiders.

Instead they got played by Gruden as a bargaining chip. I have no reason to believe they won’t screw this up.

  44. DB55 Says:

These boys is ballin! Bucs just don’t have the physicality that our division rivals are showing tonight. They don’t have the physicality, the creativity or the execution to compete.

Just a reminder MJ Stewart over Dontea Jackson, vh3 over Rankins/Tunsil Spence over Derrick Henry/micheal Thomas 🤷🏽‍♂️

So there’s been some talk about the Winston int. I saw a back shoulder throw but it could have been a bad pass. I saw the safety over top and the outside coverage so back shoulder makes sense. Doesn’t look like mike was expecting it but wdik

  45. Rod Munch Says:

The McCoy haters and Dirk once again on the same side.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Grrrrr…. He reads comic books. That makes me so angry. Grrrrrr….

  47. cmurda Says:

Not for nothing Big Mac but there was zero offense and Norv Turner’s offense looks atrocious. The Aints aren’t lighting the world on fire either. They have been sawed off the last few games. Cam is half the QB he used to be. The only throws he can make are dumpoffs to McCaffrey. Payton and the coaching staff won that game with great defense and patience but it wasn’t pretty. The one thing I’m not going to complain about is our offense. Scoring points has been lackluster but we got an offense. Now, its time to get a real coaching staff and get our D right.

  48. Architek Says:

Gerald McCoy is on the decline and is not a pro bowl DT.

He’s clearly living off of his name.

    Film doesn’t lie.

  49. Bosch Says:

The opinion of this coach who should be fired even matters? Have some credibility, Joe.

  50. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Joe

Who are the top five prospects for GM?

Who do your sources tab as up and coming?

  51. Bucfan1988 Says:

After watching “former MVP” Cam, “I cheated in college” Newton lay a big fat dump in the field against the Saints, talk about being overrated.

Folks, JW3 is not the worst QB in the NFC South, Cam wins this hands down.

I always thought he was overrated but he was big, fast, and had a unique skill-set. He definitely sucks when it comes to having the skills that a decent QB requires. Dude has no accuracy and his footwork is pure garbage….

    Moving on…

  52. Bucsfanman Says:

#7423- The shtick is getting old! Even tmax gets creative from time to time!
GMC’s definitely had a down year and it’s disappointing considering that we have DEs that are half-way decent.
Just for fun I did a little research though. GMC’s draft-mate and resident “meanie” Suh, has a grand total of 3.5 sacks playing alongside of Aaron Donald. GMC has 6.
    Just a little fun trivia!
And NO, IMO, McCoy is not a pro-bowler.

  53. donuts Says:

I don’t see any controversy here. GMC did not have a pro bowl year. He is on the other side closer to father time. This should not be a surprise. I dont think he is going anywhere so buckle up.
