“You Can’t Have That Many Hits”

December 9th, 2018

Scolds offensive line.

The people who love to scream about the Bucs offensive line at fault for everything from the outbreak of the Ebola virus to Brexit got some ammunition from Bucs coach Dirk Koetter today.

Speaking after the Bucs lost 28-14 to the Saints, in which the Saints scored 25 unanswered second-half points, the Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching, yams-eating Bucs coach was asked about the performance of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

No, Koetter said, Jameis was not sharp today, especially in the second half. And while Koetter lauded Jameis for another turnover-free game (there was that cheap pick he threw in the end zone when Mike Evans fell down with seconds left), Koetter said Jameis wasn’t getting any help either.

Koetter wagged a finger at the Bucs offensive line for not giving Jameis any time to throw in the second half and expressed his disapproval for the line turning into a sieve today.

“You can’t have that many [quarterback] hits,” Koetter said.

The Saints had 10 quarterback hits and four sacks.

And that is not counting the myriad of penalties the offensive line had today.

yeah i would say they laid down, or took a dive, or just plain quit on jameis, and it got ugly when winston got into jensens ass on the sideline for his stupid 15 yard penalty that was uncalled for

  2. Wausa Says:

Jamies had no help at all.

He is the best player on the Bucs offense and it is not even close.

  3. Troy Says:

Everything stacks up. Bad play calling leads to poor execution, poor execution leads to penalties, penalties lead to punts and turnovers. Pretty simple that it all goes back to coaching and lack of adjustments.

  4. Dapostman Says:

Thanks Captain Obvious. I mean Coach Koetter.

  5. Matts17 Says:

OL failure lies with Licht. LT and RG are enormous holes. And a case could be made that every position on the line needs to be upgraded.

  6. Gman Says:

Not a Jameis apologist but the offensive line was absolutely embarrassing. Jameis made some great plays and some awful ones but the OL was 100 percent pathetic. None of them have any redeeming value on the field

  7. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Wausa…put down the crack pipe man!

  8. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Jameis looked much better in the first half. He started hot. That pass down the sideline to Evans was beautiful. He took that hit on the second TD to Brate and he was throwing high the rest of the day. Offensive line got worse as the game went on and then the mess of penalties. Just a brutal implosion after the whole team dominated the first half.

  9. NPRSageBoy Says:

JayMiss the best player on this offense? Now, that’s offensive

  10. Rod Munch Says:

Just a note from watching the replay – Evans was literally pushed in the back on that last play before the ball gets there, he didn’t just fall down on his own. Yes it didn’t matter, but why are the refs not calling that, yet saying a ball that hits the ground and then is bobbled is a catch? Anywho Bert Emanuel makes a clean catch, zero bobble, and the refs overturn it and steal a ring from the Bucs (Bucs were not losing to the stupid Titans in the SB – so it was a ring at stake on that BS call).

Anywho I know that’s not the point of this article, but God damn do I hate these useless union refs.

  11. PriMech54 Says:

Donovan Smith is a catastrophe. The offensive line is absolutely horrific right now. Do the detractors just happen to close their eyes on every penalty and pretend it was the quarterback?

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Winston is getting hit and taking sacks because Dirk told him at halftime to play it safe, not to force the ball, to eat the sack, to play mistake free football. Well there you go, the game manager QB of your dreams, a guy that stands there and takes what the defense gives him – and if there isn’t anything given to him he just eats the sack or throws it away.

Winston haters finally saw what they want at QB AND they won the turnover battle! They should be sooo happy today!

  13. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Why are there zero RB screens anymore? Where were the WR screens? WR reverses?
There was no play calling innovation to keep the Saints on their heels in the second half. It was run up the middle or this 4 verticals passing BS with one guy running an option route.
Jameis was hurried on half his snaps! That’s unheard of and Jameis was not as decisive in the second half. It didn’t help the Oline kept getting holds to make it 3rd and 8+.
The missed kicks zapped a lot of enthusiasm from this team and that blocked punt basically demoralized us. Hate to say it but if Lavonte says a penalty on the first possession can derail a team, then no doubt a blocked punt that turned the tides of the game can as well.

  14. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston got hit many times in the second half after he got to the top of his dropback and held on to the ball too long. Those hits are on Winston or the WRs, not the OL. Winston looked afraid to throw the ball in the second half. The OL didn’t do him any favors, but it wasn’t the only reason for the bad offensive performance.

  15. DB55 Says:

Winston prob finished that game with a sprained or torn knee. I know he said he’s fine but he said the same thing when he played 3 games with a broken shoulder.

  16. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Offensive line and special teams and running game killed our chances in this game. Who hired incumbent Special Teams Coach Nate Kaczor? Who chose to keep/promote current Offensive Line coach/ Run game coordinator George Warhop? Why that would be none other than HC Turd Koetter.

The one positive about this game is that the homers and Koetter/Smith Sycophants can drop the bs narrative about us running the table and making the playoffs.

  17. BigMacAttack Says:

Yeah but Joe calls us haters for repeatedly saying how bad Donovan Smith and this O line plays. Somehow so many of our eyes deceive us, when we watch this crappy team, with lousy players that Joe constantly defends. At least I know how to admit when I’m wrong. Joe, not so much. Let’s just go ahead and give all these clowns huge contract extensions, as Joe says. Joe is always right in his mind. How does it feel Joe, you call us out. Why don’t you look in the mirror bro. And while you’re at it, call for Licht’s dismissal too.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

At Rod Munch……absolutely, Evans was pushed in the back BEFORE the ball arrived….perhaps Joe should watch a replay before he continues saying that Mike “fell down”

I watched it 5 or 6 times…..he was pushed and it was right in front of a ref…..

  19. BuccaneEric75 Says:

DB55, Winston has never had a broken shoulder.

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston held on to the ball to long, way too many times in the second half, afraid to make a mistake.

  21. Not there yet Says:

Wag a finger at this pathetic excuse for a coach. Winston has the ability to escape the pocket so Koetter used that as an excuse not to criticize the o line. This line is so weak and fragile and Koetter has been hiding thanks to his quarterbacks and even Fitz made it ok for Koetter to ignore the obvious.

We have top notch receivers no matter who would call plays, it’ll be even more potent when we get a coach who knows what to do, stop giving dirk so much credit with these weapons and this team record, your running back can’t keep leading the team in rushing while the coach gets to ignore how bad the line is, too late to jump on board with the fans now dirk

  22. ChipBuc Says:

Here’s an idea lets give Winston a competent RB to take some of the heat off of him. Just imagine if Winston could turn around and hand the ball off to a Barkley,or Elliott, less pressure for sure. A screen pass once in awhile wouldn’t hurt either.

  23. SOEbuc Says:

3 jumps on soft serve 76. Greg Little in the first round.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

Alaskan – Isn’t it amazing that Dirk was mostly known for running nothing but bubble screens in Atlanta, then once he got here he forgot what a screen pass is?

I don’t get it at all. If the defense is getting a ton of pressure, you throw screens, it’s really basis 101 level stuff.

  25. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

After Warhop was screaming and all in Winston’s and Jensen’s face the Buccaneer offense took a dump for the rest of the game. It doesn’t matter from here on out. But they should fire koetter now so they have a head start on the other sorry teams that will be looking for the next super star coach In my opinion McCarthy ain’t the man for the Bucs

  26. PriMech54 Says:

I also noticed Winston being a bit ginger on the knee in the second half, probably was exacerbated by how pathetic the line was. He looked pretty great in the first. Anyone denying that loses all credibility. Amazing how neurotic and dismissive this fanbase is to all the factors at play.

  27. Rayjay1122 Says:

Worst OL on the planet and it’s not even close…..next story.

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

Warhop sucks and needs his share of blame. The whole team is a ship of fools and no Pirate would lay claim to this mess.

  29. DayOnePaul Says:

We’ve got two three year vet second round picks, the highest paid center in the leagu, and a 12 year veteran at Right Tackle, and Peyton Barber can’t get 50 yards and Winston spent the day on his back? To say nothing about the holding and procedure penalties? Warhop has to go. Donovan needs to move to the right side. Benenoch needs to be a bench depth player at best. Demar needs to retire. And Jensen needs to stop killing drives with his stupid jarheaded penalties.

  30. Topcoach1978 Says:

But nooooo Dirk is always giving D. Smith praise though??? If they pay this guy they are fools, I know they realize Jensen was a mistake truth be told Marpet ain’t nothing special!

  31. Reach87 Says:

Poor OL play (obvious). TB Rats jumping ship (as predicted). There are positives saying we can win the next one. Go Bucs!

  32. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Bad OL coach
    Bad RB coach
    Bad special teams coach
Bucs had all the momentum at halftime and OLine, kicker and special teams failures just gave the Saints all the momentum in the 3rd quarter.
Koetter has to go along with many others.
The defensive coaches can’t be blamed-
    Disgraceful performance in 2nd half

  33. TOM Says:

Fire Warhop! Bench or release Bennoch, Dotson & D. Smith & let the young guys play. Also start Rojo & let Griffen start at least one game before the season ends Need to find out what they have in these reserves so they know what way to go in the draft.
