Knee Injury May Sideline David

November 13th, 2018

Test reveals MCL sprain.

This season is circling the drain.

Bad enough the Bucs have so much bad drama hovering as One Buc Palace seems just weeks away from a housecleaning, add a potentially serious injury to one of its star players to the already nightmare of a season.

Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, Lavonte David’s status for the Giants game Sunday in New Jersey, if not beyond, is in jeopardy due to a knee injury suffered Sunday against the Redskins.

David … underwent an MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis (sprained MCL). The typical recovery timetable is two to four weeks, but nothing has been decided yet. The team did, however, re-sign linebacker Kevin Minter on Tuesday.

In her story, Laine explains how David was injured and when.

And this comes on the heels of the defense’s best effort of the season.

As much as Joe adores football, with everything surrounding the team, the season can’t seem to end quick enough.

The next seven weeks will test Joe’s liver.

    Joe,

Dont worry, this horrible, lost season will be over before you know it and then the new Bucs brass will draft a true Franchise QB for you to gush over

Lol in other news grass is green

  3. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Lavonte David is another Gerald McCoy. An exceptional, albeit not historically great player who’s talent and skill set have been squandered on crappy teams run by incompetent coaches and built by largely incompetent GM’s.

    Sad.

  4. SB Says:

    Hey Schwifty

“David’s 603 career solo tackles and 12 fumble recoveries are the most in the league at any position since 2012.”

You might want to stop talking out the side of your neck.

  5. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @BrianBuc

I honestly don’t understand how any person who knows a single solitary thing about football can watch this team rack up over 500 yards of offense yet only score 3 points, and sit back and think to themselves…

“Man this team really needs a new QB to solve all it’s problems. Yup, this teams failure to be a good football team has nothing to do with the schemes and the coaches and the gameplanning, it has everything to do with the QB’s.”

    Find a new sport/hobby.

  6. Pete I Says:

Still not sure the defense played all that well. The Redskins offense isn’t that high scoring anyway and this version was even more depleated .

  7. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @SB

Ok. Tackles are easy to come by you know. Every year their’s a scrub/nothing special player that gets close to 100 tackles.

But if you’ll note one thing, I didn’t call Lavonte a scrub. I called him exceptional. Which he is. I also said he’s not a historically great player. Which he isn’t.

  8. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Exceptional – Adjective – Unusually good; Outstanding

How am I talking out the side of my neck exactly ya hick?

  9. SB Says:

How the phuck would you know I am a hick. Should I just assume you are a fag that knows more about knitting than football????

  10. SB Says:

Ok name calling now is it. How would you assume I am a “hick”?
Should I just assume you are of a different sexual persuasion and call you that?
Dude leads the Entire NFL in Solo tackles and fumble recoveries for 6 yrs!!!
How the flip do you know if he is historically Great or not as he is mired in a Terrible Defense? Are you a NFL Coach?
Credit where credit is due, even in his down yrs he would start for Every other team in the league at a LB spot.

  11. K_Bassuka Says:

Why waste their time? We all know what Koetter and his man Suckpatrick will find a way to lose the game and blame everyone else…

  12. DB55 Says:

    SB

    Thank you.

I just like how lvd came back to finish the game, true warrior unlike some other players we know.

  13. catcard202 Says:

I’m sure TB’s roster will see it’s fair share of turnover in the off-season…With a number of key “CORE???” contract decisions due…Which makes the Koetter / JW3 situations even bigger questions for Onwership/FO to address in the coming weeks.

Have to wonder if mounting LB injuries & other glaring OFF/DEF deficiencies will lead the Bucs to maneuver more aggressively in FA &/or trading down in the draft to restock the cupboards…(OAK / NYG / CLE all have desirable excessive picks to deal).

  14. GoBuxFla Says:

Circling the drain? Heck, it’s more like that deep blue water from Ty-D-Bol and Koetter is the captain of the leaking boat. And oooooooo, that smell.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “The next seven weeks will test Joe’s liver.” Joe, it’s beer, not moonshine from the Kentucky backcountry (now THAT tests your liver … and your eyesight).

  16. FortMyersDave Says:

Convenient injury. Watch Eli make dump off passes iin the flat that normally gain 3 yards vs most NFL games go for 50 yard TDs. Vinnie Curry last week. Lavonte this week. Looks like Bucs go 3 and 7 unless the Giants tank and they played hard against the niners…..

  17. Dewey Selmon Says:

That was his 100th game and he almost broke Ronde’s fumble recovery record.

  18. Not there yet Says:

Not good for him since the glazers get to see how useless he is to this defense, they’ve already seen how useless Geraldine is. If they were both out we would at least get to see what next year would look like, they are GOOD players and good players at their age are replaceable. Good luck with your new teams in 2019. Time to move on, to much money spent on two guys who make absolutely no difference on the worst defense in the nfl. We won’t even notice he’s not playing

  19. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

If the Bucs are gonna stink…I say stink up the joint…stink out loud! End the season on a 14 game losing streak…leave no doubt that a complete tear down is needed. Maybe Gruden is on to something…that crazy SOB! 🙂

  20. BrianBucs Says:

    Schwifty

Aren’t you kind of answering your own question and making my point for me?

  21. tmaxcon Says:

mentally weakest player on the field for either team every sunday. useless… just like his mentor the cryin clown.

I agree with you that David is being wasted with this coaching staff. I have a hard time comparing him to GMC, though. David showed under different coaches that he can be a consistent playmaker. I’ve never seen that from McCoy, IMO.

  23. Cobraboy Says:

What is the story with Beckwith? Aren’t the Bucs supposed to fish or cut bait with him after the 8th week?

  24. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Cobra Kai: That’s a good question…and I took a lot of flack when I wondered if he hadn’t put his career in serious jeopardy. A single car accident in the offseason that smashes your ankle isn’t a good way to see an eventual payday. He won’t be back this season…if at all.

  25. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

Tomorrows the last day that Beckwith could be activated off short-term IR. Could the football gods award us with something good this season? We shall wait and see.

  26. Seth Doiron Says:

I’ll miss Lavonte. But, I honestly hope we trade him in the offseason. We need to trade or cut Lavonte, GMC, Gholston, Curry, and DJax. Will open our cap to about 43 mil after resigning Kwon/Donovan if we keep Jameis. Then we need to start Beckwith at MLB and Kwon needs to move to WLB, way more natural position. We also need to keep Hump.

VH3 looked really good before his injury as much as people want to act like he sucks. And Carlton Davis looks like he’s going to be a flat out baller with some more experience. With Evans/Whitehead looking like a great combo… our defense is some great coaching and 4 or so players from being awesome.

This is not a rebuild with a good 2019 draft class and a FA signing or two that doesn’t flop. We need good coaching that utilizes players strengths and won’t put the team in jeopardy and I believe that person is Jim Harbaugh.

When he took over the 49ers in 2011, everyone was expecting a complete rebuild but he implemented his system and went 13-3. He’d do the same thing here I believe. He’s an asshole enough to be what a HC needs to be, but has the experience to deal with a QB like Jameis and make him flourish.

  27. Not there yet Says:

I find it funny saying Lavonte David is being wasted on this coaching staff. Not calling you out or anything just an opinion I disagree with because apparently people have forgotten how many defensive coordinators lvd and Geraldine have played for. They keep blaming the coaches but Lavonte has had one pro bowl season under Greg Schiano that’s it and never played the same again. We keep blaming coaches for the bad defense but sooner or later someone has to realize the defense is built two talented but spineless players.

When you make millions is it really a big deal to play injured? Kids do it in college, high school and even on the playground. I really want Geraldine and Lavonte gone because they only lead in the off-season.

  28. Trench War Says:

…and the hits just keep comin’

  29. SchwiftyBuc Says:

SB I called you a dang hick, because I know from previous conversations under my old name that you live in the backwoods of Montana, and because, you are one.

Lavonte David being as good as he is in a terrible defense is precisely why he’s got all those tackles. Of course a guy who can roam the field like he can is going to rack em up.

Also, Lavonte David has had 2 Elite years of play. 1 in 2013 when he was making plays everywhere and had a butt load of picks and sacks. And 1 in 2017, when he found a knack for knocking the ball out.

And when you take into account the very real facts that outside of 1 year, he’s consistently been average/below average in coverage, the fact that he’s a key member on what will more than likely go down as the worst defense of all time, and the fact that their are multiple quotes from him evidencing his mental weakness at times, there’s no way you can hold him in the same regard as other truly great Linebackers.

Those are just the facts. Want to hear another fact? This team would have been much better off drafting Luke Kuechly the year we drafted David. You know, the guy who’s been the centerpiece and cerebral leader of a top 5/10 defense basically every year he’s been in the league. But wtfdik?

  30. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Well, there goes HIS Pro Bowl Chances….LMAO!

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

A tmax sighting!!!!! Hold the phone! He’s a decent starter but let’s not get too carried away. We are historically one of the worst defenses WITH him.
    Next man up. Play football.

  32. Bucsfanman Says:

Lets not get crazy over LVD. He’s a decent starter, that’s about it. He’s been playing on an historically bad defense for years now, and that is WITH him.
It always hurts to lose a starter. Next man up! We’re not the only team dealing with injuries.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

    Is that a tmax sighting?!!!
