Time To Call Chucky

October 22nd, 2018

“I’m f@#$ing stocking up for the draft, man. Jason Licht isn’t sh!t compared to me in the draft war room!”

Wonder if Chucky would do a favor for an old friend, the Bucs?

Despite Chucky’s protests, yes, the Raiders are tanking. What else would you call what Chucky is doing with the Raiders?

So far Chucky has traded sackmeister Khalil Mack to the Bears and just today he dealt wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cowboys.

Chucky, if you can contain your laughter, is stocking up on draft picks.

It’s time for Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to call Chucky.

The Bucs now are beat up at linebacker. Sure, it would be nice if Kendell Beckwith were healthy from his ankle surgery this spring. But nothing Beckwith has told Joe gives Joe any confidence he will be on the field for the Bucs before Thanksgiving. And frankly, Joe isn’t holding his breath despite Beckwith being a natural to fill in for Kwon Alexander, who blew out his knee.

Offensive line? Joe’s seen enough of Caleb Benenoch. He’s OK at run blocking but a total revolving door at pass blocking. And if veteran Evan Smith had the goods, he would be starting over Benenoch. Clearly, Alex Cappa isn’t ready or he would have been active by now.

An extra corner or safety wouldn’t hurt either.

Too bad Chucky doesn’t have a running back (no, Joe doesn’t believe for a second Chucky would trade Marshawn Lynch).

Since Chucky is having a clearance sale, it would behoove Licht to check for quotes with Chucky.

  1. SKBucsFan Says:

Licht should call Chucky. He could offer him Gerald McCoy for one of his 3 first rounders. Worse case scenario he hangs up Jason.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

We need ALL our draft picks in 2019 !…

  3. LakeLand Says:

    Lol

Jon Gruden knows how to destroy a football team

    The greatest at that

  4. Wesley Says:

I’d rather dump players for draft picks as well.

  5. SKBucsFan Says:

Or laughs so hard that he pisses himself.
Either way it only takes 30 seconds of Lichts time

  6. The Real Malloy Says:

Winston for Carr. Do it Jason. The word is that they are barely on speaking terms. Everyone wins.

  7. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe and who exactly do the raiders have that could fill the shoes Kwon has left? And about our running back situation….I thought Peyton Barber was our bell cow running back? What happened to that?lol. I’m all in to trade McCoy for Bell. No draft picks involved unless it’s a swap of our first for their fist in 2019. Vea is attracting the double teams McCoy does and he’s younger, cheaper, and to be honest I think he has a higher roof.

  8. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Gruden ruins teams by trading away their best defensive players

  9. miken Says:

Gruden cares nothing about the rest of this year and next. Total tank mode with a 10 year contract and a new home otw. if anyone on their roster looks appealing, got to go get him. Beast mode may head to ir but their corner from last year can be had.

  10. SKBucsFan Says:

I agree Real Malloy. Not likely to happen, but that would be a blockbuster!

  11. DB55 Says:

Too bad Chucky doesn’t have a running back (no, Joe doesn’t believe for a second Chucky would trade Marshawn Lynch).
    ———–
Dude, Chris Warren is a beast and run just like Marshawn.

  12. Ryan McGregor Says:

    JOE,

Sorry, but the “time to call Chucky” would have been back when Mack was on the trade block. Missed that train.

  13. El_Buc941 Says:

Plus if we trade McCoy for Bell we don’t have to worry about making cap space room to bring him on board. Let’s do it while we’re still in playoff contention.

  14. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Hey Joe,

What’s the status on the offensive line knowing who to block?

  15. jmarkbuc Says:

I’d take Chris Warren off his hands…..

  16. Robert Says:

I doubt Chucky would want interested in jameis, crabman, winston…….

That O Line looked pretty good for a few games…… a couple balls over the top to D Jax might lighten their load.

and Lynch??? seriously? you don’t pay premium for a RB who has peaked!

Defeinitely inquire, but only if he’s buying what you’re selling!

    McCoy maybe?

  17. NPRSageBoy Says:

See if he’s interested in Jameis

  18. LakeLand Says:

    We could trade for Dougie

Since everyone realize that it wasn’t him that stinks
It’s the O-Line and the offense

  19. Marques Says:

3 time superbowl champ Tom Coughlin knew well enough to sign Ereck Flowers Joe for free. All it would have cost you was $$. Whose drinking the bourbon now?

Do you really think you know more them Tom and I? lol

Not only is he a swing tackle for the Jags he transitions well to guard too!!! That kid needed to get out of the big city. Back in Florida he will do fine.

  20. Vivian Says:

I think Broncos, Cardinals, and Raiders are looking for trades.

  21. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Here’s the big question, last I checked this draft isn’t looking like it’s going to be all that good. Maybe why teams are happy to do draft picks for players this year, and why gruden will likely look like a fool.

There is absolutely no way you trade for Lynch, he came out of retirement to play in his home town, I actually believe he retires before moving to Vegas, and would probably retire if traded as well.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Watch as Doug Martin becomes a featured and very productive back in Oakland, meanwhile people here will be wondering why every RB the Bucs try can’t get more than 2.8 yards per carry running up the middle on every first down in Dirks offense when the opponent knows it coming.

Gee, I wonder why that doesn’t work, to telegraph the play you’re running and then run it anyways right into a defense that knows it’s coming and run blitzes up the middle.

  23. The Real Malloy Says:

    Robert,

You don’t remember Chucky being on hard knocks last year? He’s in love with Winston and he does not get along with Carr at all. Its a no brainer IMO.

  24. Bird Says:

    Safety Karl Joseph.

Look this upcoming draft is weak according to experts.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Also there is no reason to waste picks trying to fix the unfixable. The defense might be better but there are so many injuries that one or two players, even very good ones, will do much of anything when they come in midseason. The best thing you can do is keep playing the rookie rookies in the defensive backfield, and pray Beckwith is a miracle worker who can step in right away and start and the defensive line gets healthy….

That’s a lot of wishing to do.

If you want to trade, call Pittsburgh and trade for Bell – as the best defense is an offense that scores 40, because while the defense looked better (and no doubt it looked better) it did so versus a rookie QB, when you’re playing Cam, Brees and Ryan, they’re going to do what they always do against this defense since even if there is a better effort, instead of scoring 41 they might score 38.

  26. LakeLand Says:

I think the experts are wrong about this draft

There’s some solid defensive players in this draft
    Especially on the D-Line

  27. adam from ny Says:

chucky is trading off players who think they hold more weight than the coach…it’s a lot of what you said joe, but it’s also a napoleon ego and power play move…chucky is giving the raider fans a “wild mixed bag of muckenberries”

    #WtfAreMuckenberries

  28. Robert Says:

    I haven’t watched hard knocks.

If he’d take JW, then deal em’ if we can get players that can contribute now.

LOL at those who doubt Chucky

SB ring, killed it in Oakland before, great football mind and announcer……pit bull that kicks a$$, he’s hasn’t shown patience with young bucks though..I’ll give ya that

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Well at least Gruden did something right by getting rid of Amari Cooper. Won’t be long before Cooper is a #2 is my guess.

  30. DB55 Says:

Yea I think a lot of people are sleeping on Chucky. He traded Mack bc he offered him 20mil a yr and Mack refused.

When Winston was drafted people on this very board said Carr, MM, Luck and a bunch others were better but where are they now? Where they at yo? Where?

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Adam……The funny thing about it all is that Gruden doesn’t even really have a fan base to worry about at the moment.

National media hasn’t been so kind to him however.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Over the offseason I predicted that Gruden would hate Carr and Cooper and would run Cooper out of town and make Jordy Nelson his top WR, but hey, Gruden was able to flip Cooper for a 1st rounder, that’s more than I thought he’d get. Carr’s contract makes it so he can’t run him out of town, so he’s stuck with him, and boy does Gruden hate Carr, just watch the games and you see it, it’s beyond the dumb Chucky face, he loathes him since he knows there is no way to get rid of him and he’s stuck with him for a few years. Also said Gruden would trade Mack, because this is the same guy that cut Lynch and let Sapp walk so he could sign a bunch of old mid-30s injured offensive lineman and an old injured RB (Garner) to big deals, all while claiming it wasn’t his fault, it was the cap (do the math, it wasn’t a cap, it was him wrestling control away from McKay and signing like 24 FA’s that offseason and finally destroying what McKay and Dungy built).

Anywho I was telling some Oakland fans this and some fantasy football buddies this and they didn’t believe me. LOL! Once Gruden, always Gruden. He’s going to “win” his way, and if by “win” you mean go the route of Jeff Fisher and be a 8-8, then he’d get that done.

BTW, want to trade Gruden to get a corner, well give him Fitz, he’d love Fitz, an old QB – Gruden LOVES old QBs. Heck Gruden might give up two 1st for D-Jax, he LOVES old WRs.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Chucky will not trade for a defensive player. Those suggesting the Bucs offer GMC are complete dimwits. He would not have let Mack go if he wanted a defense.

No, Chucky sees that the NFL favors offense now. So he is gathering picks to build one.

However, remember Joey Galloway? Gruden wanted him and got him. Remember Desean Jackson? Completely fits the Galloway mold. Jackson is our trade ticket with Gruden. He’d probably give up a first rounder for him.

  34. Buc believer Says:

Yeah THATS the ticket I bet we could get 3 first rounders for Mr. softie Aka Batman Aka Gerald the dancing fool McCoy and one “wow dude I didn’t know knees should bend like that” King Kwon. That just right up Chuckys alley.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And don’t expect him to trade away any good offensive players either.

  36. SOEbuc Says:

Kwon story making me so sad and mad.

WRITE US AN ARTICLE ON THE THREE GOOD PLAY DAYS OF CBs Davis, Stewart, and Nassib lol.

  37. SKBucsFan Says:

I agree. Jackson would be a good offer. We could spare him and not miss a beat.

  38. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

If Licht was all that he would do what is necessary to get Patrick Peterson from the Cardinals(he wants out). Lock down CB is the hardest position to fill other than QB. Peterson is a proven All-Pro that is under contract through 2021 at a cheap number compared to current salaries. Koetter and Licht would have to be willing to pay through the nose , something like a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder or 3 2nd rounders to get it done. Licht and Koetter have their jobs on the line , so maybe they roll the dice.

  39. JimmyJack Says:

76……Who are you looking to replace with Peterson? Carlton or Grimes…….I’m just asking because I keep hearing the same suggestion but I don’t see how y’all think that’s one of our biggest weeknesses.

  40. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Grimes , because with his experience he can convert to slot corner easily or even safety. Let’s face it, our D needs to cover better and adding talent and experience at corner also makes the D-Line better immediately.

  41. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Trade GMC for donald penn & joseph

  42. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Carlton davis has been a bright spot other than that somewhat questionable PI call in the end zone. It is not just the talent you acquire with Peterson, it is his ability to pass that knowledge to the younger players.

  43. JimmyJack Says:

76……I guess the only thing with that would be if Grimes would wanna move there……Not really the biggest endorsement for Grimes but he does seem to be very professional. It also would end the development of M.J. which I personally would be against.

To me it just doesn’t make sense fundamentally……I really don’t think coverage from our 2 current starters has been that big of an issue.

If I were going to suggest a trade it would be for a LB(ideally one who can cover). With or without Kwon it was a very weak spot for the D IMO.

I would also look for Oline, RB and Safety help before I break the bank on a CB.

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Honestly If you really were going to bring in Peterson then you might be looking at cutting Grimes outright…..Most people get upset when they are demoted. That stuff creates drama and that can indeed derail a season.

  45. Wausa Says:

Some of the comments make Joe’s site unreadable at times.

  46. mark2001 Says:

Sure….Chucky would deal with us…for our next half dozen first round picks. Note…that is all Chucky is talking about now.

  47. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Thank god that @Kobe Faker and Scott Reynolds were dead wrong about “Grudog” coming back to the Bucs this offseason.

He’d have Traded Mike Evans, Ali Marpet, Lavonte David, and JPP by now.

And then he’d have burned the draft picks on busts.

  48. mark2001 Says:

Talk about trading guy to Chucky? Wow…just Wow… He is selling not buying. He is trading for picks, figuring he will build a champion in the next decade. Are some of you guys on drugs?

  49. Getaclue Says:

    Joe dirt is back

  50. 813bucboi Says:

marshawn is out for the year….tore is groin off the bone…..

would love gabe Jackson and karl joseph…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  51. Blonde orange Says:

Instead of the revolving door at right guard, I’d like to see either Cappa or Liedtke start. Liedtke held his own in pre season and Cappa is presumed to be our future. A shakeup may be a good thing!

  52. Loyaltotheend Says:

So much for the stickcarriers and their loudmouth leader wanting Chucky back here

  53. cmurda Says:

Joe, relax man. We are good. Joe Dirt is back. In all seriousness, Joe Dirt may not be able to cover more than serviceable but he showed well in tackle and pursuit. I can live with that for now. Losing Kwon really hurts. Heck, by about half-way through the game against CLE, I was just commenting how Kwon looked reinvigorated with Duffner running the show. It’s a tough blow and the decision on a new contract will be very blurry at this point. We may need money to spend in FA to revamp the right side of the O Line. Vinny Curry hasn’t shown much so there’s a good chance we will be hunting a good DE too. Not to mention safety. I know it’s hard to imagine life without Conte. Long story short, we have holes on this team and resources will need to be available to fill the holes. P.S. The picture of Chucky and the quote was pure gold.

  54. 911bucs Says:

I sure hope Licht is actively pursuing some help, if not I’m afraid this team realistically won’t be able to pull off more than 3 more wins. They are just to injury plagued.

  55. Kobe Faker Says:

“Lol! Bashing Gruden when the Bucs should be doing the same thing last few years?

Gruden didnt comeback to be 8-8 9-7 for 5 years

Gruden is following the Bellichick textbook. No max contract for players when your not in Superbowl winning mode

3 #1s to get top defensive lineman, linebacker, shutdown corner

Gruden has learned that its all about the draft and timing of the overal team

*When you have alot of early draft picks and you hit on them , it doesnt take long to be an elite team

    * Contrary to their record, Colts GM Ballard could win the superbowl next year if he hits on 4 positions”

    Kobe Faker

  56. BigMacAttack Says:

    Ray Caruth is available 😂

  57. Dapostman Says:

If anyone thinks Gruden is going to take an aging player off your hands for a high draft pick you are smoking. Gruden is building for one thing and one thing only. Vegas baby! It’s all about building for his new home and fandom Vegas. He needs a young exciting team to build interest not ‘these Raiders’. lol

  58. D the Bucs fan Says:

Lynch is on ir with a groin

  59. Annoyed In CT Says:

    Trade Winston for Carr

  60. Kord Says:

The only thing that matters is trading for a mlb and bringing in a lot of free agent backers, what’s the situation on Cichy? Can’t replace Kwons presence, but the team has to try for them to save the season

  61. Kord Says:

Uh my bad, the dirt is back and Cichy also all. Damn feel bad for Cichy, dream barely got off the ground

  62. EA Says:

Im sure Mike Smiths out of this world defensive scheme would get very little out of a great player like Khalil Mack.

  63. Loyaltotheend Says:

Anyone who thinks Gruden can build through the draft or has learned anything has not been a Buc fan very long

  64. JimmyT Says:

    NPRsageboy
What a foolish take! I bet u would have been happy with a midget Danny Wurffel as a BUC QB! What a dummy

  65. mark2001 Says:

Annoyed…what are you smoking? He would never trade Carr for Jameis.

  66. Gambelero Says:

Gruden absolutely would trade Carr for Winston, even steven and laugh at us for the next dozen years.

  67. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

With all of these rookies being forced to start due to injuries, I don’t see how the defense cannot need the rest of the season to develop.

  68. BrianBucs Says:

Licht would just try to draft Winston again SMH

  69. BrianBucs Says:

    Gambelero

Winston would never be able to ingest or execute Gruden’s playbook

  70. cmurda Says:

This has to be the worst MNF game that will be played all year. 2 awful teams and somehow we lost to one of them last week.

  71. unbelievable Says:

Yea Kobe the only problem with that is that Gruden was HORRIBLE at drafting once he had the power and control.

Lol at the idiots who wanted him back here. He’s a good coach, but terrible with personnel.

  72. DalvinCookRules Says:

Licht has had 5 straight years of top or near top picks in the draft. What has he produced? This team has major holes everywhere! It could be argued that the few good picks he found happened when Jon Robinson’s was still around.

It is clear Licht is a major liability, as was Mike Smith. Koetter is at least a mixed bag, but I don’t see anything to like about Licht.

  73. unbelievable Says:

Why on earth did the giants just go for 2?

Now they’re down by 8 instead of 7. Guess they’re tanking lol.

  74. cmurda Says:

When Matt Bryant comes back, can we get this Italian kid to kick for us. I know Dr Jekyll, I mean Catanzaro, just made a long game winner for us but he also can’t seem to hit an easy 40 yarder or extra points.

  75. cmurda Says:

Oh and if the Giants have any nads they will can Schurmur. He might be one and done in NY. Goes for 2 at the worst possible time. 2 QB sneaks by Eli wasting 40 secs. You can’t have the slowest dude in the NFL sneaking.

  76. THETRUTH Says:

Brianbucs: Why would Winston not understand his playbook, you do realize any coach or GM that has interviewed winston during draft time said he was one of the smartest QB they have seen.. STUDENT OF THE GAME, Gruden actually loved that about him.

Sounds to me cause he is black you assume otherwise. May want to explain yourself so it comes out correctly what you meant.

  77. lambchop Says:

If history has anything to say about this, it is not about the draft picks as it is about getting rid of Reggie’s guys and forcing Reggie to leave. I would not be shocked to see Reggie resign by the end of the season and the puppet, I mean Bruce Allen, be brought back to the Raiders.

The draft picks are laughable because ultimately Jon will screw that up too.

  78. lambchop Says:

More than the Raiders, Jason Licht needs to focus on the BRONCOS.

Bradley Roby (CB), Chris Harris (CB), and Brandon Marshall (ILB) are all reportedly available for trade. Chris Harris has a cap friendly deal compared to Patrick Peterson who is insisting on being traded.

  79. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Want to bring back Donald Penn? — that would be pretty cool,,, can he play Guard?

  80. WyldKat Says:

Gruden is stocking up picks so he can go all-in to pry Eli Manning from the Giants.

  81. The Buc Realist Says:

At least some people can see it!!!!!!!!!! The Bucs need to be selling like Coach Gruden is doing!!!!!!! They should have seen it in 2014 instead of trying to patch up around talk show dominik/rah failed roster!!!!!!! Coach Duf slide back to more of a tampa 2 coverage that seem that the old vets only know how to play!!!!! and average teams will eat that up!!!!!!!!!!!!

The most pressing problem in Tampa is “perception”!!!!!!!!!! Local media and the sheep think the bucs have a stock pile of talent!!!! and while it looks that way in fantasy football, They don’t in “reality” !!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the coaches and GM will pay for it at the end of the season!!!!!!!!!!!

  82. D-Rome Says:

Chucky is doing the smart thing in Oakland. He’ll likely screw it up, but he’s doing the right thing. That team even with Khalil Mack was not winning anything this season or for the foreseeable future.

  83. Jim Says:

Realist, one of your keys is stuck.

  84. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Jim

And so is the mindset of the sheep and local media!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. jmarkbuc Says:

    THETRUTH

We’ve all heard about JW’s Football IQ, how smart he is, student of the game etc.etc..

I wonder if he’s just great on the whiteboard. Like students who are really smart, but terrible at taking tests.. His Football IQ doesn’t seem to translate to the field, for whatever reason.

  86. Rod Munch Says:

    WyldKat – hahaha

  87. THETRUTH Says:

    Jmarkbuc:

I can agree with that, interesting when you hear that the last pic was fault of other player taking his defender into the wrong area. Not saying Winston should have not noticed but i can see why he could have made the mistake.

My only problem with JW is he cant throw a long ball, pics are part of being a fearless QB LIKE FARVE
