Smith Will Wreck Winston, Too

October 3rd, 2018

Doomed by Bucs defense?

After the Windy City Wipeout, veteran NFL suit Michael Lombardi wrote that Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith will get head coach Dirk Koetter fired.

It’s a theory, sadly, that looks all too realistic.

And if that does happen, the collateral damage of Smith’s frightening defense won’t stop with Koetter’s coaching corpse. Joe strongly fears America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will be roadkill as well.

Think about it: What is the one thing that folks scream about Jameis until their throat is raw? He doesn’t win enough (as if Jameis is supposed to be the modern-day version of Sammy Baugh and be an All-Pro at three different positions including on defense).

Mind you this season, the train wreck that is Smith’s defense is on pace to set an NFL record for most points allowed in a season. There is simply no excuse for that with the talent on hand. None!

On the defense’s current pace, they will allow an average of 35 points scored a game. So that means Jameis would have to lead an offense that scores at least 36 points a game? That’s an absurd standard.

Only two teams in NFL history that racked up that many points, the 2013 Denver Broncos averaged 38 points a game and the 2007 Belicheats averaged 37.

(Oddly enough, both the 2013 Broncos and the 2007 Belicheats lost in the Super Bowl.)

We all saw a snapshot of what to expect this year from the 2017 Bucs. Jameis, in an injury-shortened season, gave the Bucs a lead in the fourth quarter four times only to helplessly watch from the sidelines that friggin’ gutless defense gag each lead away.

But what do some fans say? They put 100 percent of the blame on Jameis. “He’s not a winner!”

That’s ridiculous!

Joe can see it now: The Bucs will set an NFL record for points allowed, finish with a losing record, and folks will be throwing rocks at Jameis for losing.

And Jameis will be tossed aside next offseason while the Bucs once again fruitlessly rebuild.

#BlameJameis indeed!

Un-freaking-believable. Or is it?

It’s all about perspective @Joe. If you hate Jameis, no amount of facts will change your mind. We’ve seen time and again how true that is in life.

  2. kma119 Says:

This goes both ways Joe. I have a feeling a lot of Jameis supporters will use the awful defense as a shield if Jameis plays poorly. The bottom line is this: If in the next few games Jameis does not put up the same (or better) numbers that Ryan Fitzpatrick has up to this point, then Fitz’s benching was not justified. Simple as that.

  3. Hodad Says:

Jameis will struggle to try and keep pace with what the defense is giving up. However, his future will be in the hands of the new G.M., and H.C.. The game has passed M. Smith by, and he should’ve been let go after last years garbage defense, but it’s Licht who could’ve fired him, and didn’t. He thought it was a talent, and not coaching issue, he was wrong. Like he was wrong about trading up for a kicker. The fish rots from the head down. Licht has had five years to build a winner, and hasn’t. Let’s not make Smith the scapegoat for all our ills. It’s Licht who needs to go.

  4. Loyaltotheend Says:

No Qb can win with the NFL’s worst D and one of the worst run games in the league.

No QB can be expected to overcome that and then throw in coaching ineptitude of epic proportions

    True.

  6. 813bucboi Says:

right now, Winston is in a matt Stafford situation…..

great arm talent but is surrounded by incompetent coaches and a lousy front office…..

-Stafford has never had a run game…..Winston is in the same boat…..
-DET’s defense never comes thru……TB’s defense never comes thru…..

the biggest difference is Stafford has kept his nose clean….that’s why DET has him on a long term deal…..Stafford doesn’t win enough games either but it aint all on him…..

  7. Darin Says:

Im a Jameis fan but I’d rather win. No qb was gona beat chicago. Defense is too good and ours couldnt slow down Mitchy Marino. I was in favor of Fitz staying in but now its apparent it doesnt matter until we get another defensive playcaller. Not sure why smitty is so scared to blitz a guy with the lowest qbr against the blitz in the nfl. The fear of 9 tds by Mitch and losing 63-3? Grow a pair Smitty. Your bend dont break is a broken broken record.

  8. DB55 Says:

Well they’re already saying he played awful on Sunday even though he had an 80% completion percentage and chucked Mack out of his way on another sure fire strip sack.

Some guy named Bassinger on Twitter asked yesterday if Fitz played poorly enough to be benched? About 90% of the genius TB fans said no even though he had a 50% completion percentage with a 48 qbr and 2 turnovers. Don’t forget the strip sack that Jacquizz recovered. Selective memories these people have.

It’s all good Winston will do what he does and next year RunJameisRun

  9. DB55 Says:

I saw LVD blitz in the first series of the game and kwon totally fudged up the backside persuit.

Honestly, can ANYONE explain to me what in the world Kwon was doing on sunday? He was totally lost and that our mlb for goodness sakes.

  10. Haw'n Buc Says:

Along those same lines, this poor defense will ruin Jameis because he will constantly be chasing points, since our defense gives up so many. As a result, he will take more chances, which means throw more picks and fumble the ball more. He can’t afford to be like Mariota or Bortles and punt the ball away. Every time we punt you can be assured we will give up at least 3 points. Jameis can’t really develop properly because he knows that if we don’t score, the other team will. It’s just a terrible situation that probably isn’t going to change.

  11. Anonymous Says:

Look at the 1st and 2nd year QB’s out there! Many have shown more promise than Winston. On the cheap to boot. A 20M+ long-term contract, is insane. Paying him 21M next season is insane. We’ll see if he can go .500, like Fitz. Face the facts our backup QB at 3M, is just as good as Winston!

  12. Jim Says:

If this is your argument, then Winston should ask to be traded…

  13. BigBucs_GA Says:

That has been Jameis Winston’s whole career. The defense has always given up the lead. Example look at the last 5 games last season. The GB game Winston had a fumble but he bought the team back to take the lead and the defense couldn’t do anything in the end. You could make the case that Tampa should be 0-4 based on how the defense has played. I think one thing that is over looked is week 1. Tampa was up 48-24 and the final score was 48-40. The following week you are up 27-7 with just over 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. With no running if it was 4 minutes left in the game Philly would have score again to take the lead 28-27. Like all other buc fans I just want to win and I don’t care how we get it but the defense has to make changes. Bench Brent Grimes and go with a younger CB and Dirk needs to not call the plays and if anything be in on all the defensive calls and meetings etc.

  14. DB55 Says:

Hey did anyone notice Winston ‘taking care’ of the ball? Case in point on the scramble where he went 20 yards behind the los then threw incomplete to Godwin, he had Brate and Mike (I think) open deep down field. If he threw it to either the play would have looked like the last famous Jameis highlight vs the bears where he hit Mike on the 50 yard bomb after that crazy scramble.

Seems to me like the talk has gotten to Winston and now he’s playing timid just like the TB booster club wants it. Scared money don’t make money.

Why ask to be traded when you might get to pick where you land?

  16. GhostofSchiano Says:

At this point nothing to lose blitz a linebacker, corner safety in any combination what is their to lose?

If our secondary is that weak reduce the opposing quarterbacks time to throw. This scheme now is a proven failure. Go extreme.

  17. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

    Let me get this straight…

Ryan Fitzpatrick has the hottest 3 game streak in NFL history, with Canton literally calling for his jersey, and we bench him after one lousy half against he NFL’s top D, where also we gave up 956 points ourselves to a putrid O?

I’m sorry, but I for one am looking forward to a bye this weekend and a break from this farce.

The Bucs were a different team this week, and there was only one real difference in the roster (and I’m not talking about Conte on IR). I hope they can rally as they did in weeks 1 and 2 and 3.

Kudos to Joe – he is a knowledgeable Business Man in agreement with Dirk – JW3 will be here long after everyone else around him gets canned… all aboard!!!

  18. Wausa Says:

I have been saying this for a long time.
You can not win with the worst defense in the NFL no matter how well your QB plays.
A few lunatic posters were even blaming the loss to Chicago on Jamies.

The only hope I have is two years ago Mike Smith did find some magic elixir that caused the defense to play well down the stretch, but outside of those games he has been beyond awful.

Joe is correct that a large number of irrational fans will blame the losses on Jamies, because they will say he doesn’t win even if he averages 30 points a game.

So tru joe but no matter what even if #3 had perfect games the rest of the season you know like not fumble or throw picks complete most of his passes an connect with D-Jax the haters are still going to blame him an want him gone seems like a loose loose for #3 kinda like it’s bin for #93 an #54 they are some of the best at their positions an still don’t get recognized or make it to the post season

  21. ndog Says:

Like I said 3 weeks ago this whole deal is setting up Jameis to fail. Cause now there is a book out on this offense yet he will be expected to put up the same numbers even though there is no surprise now. Everyone now know we want to spread them out and go deep while not running the ball at all. So blitz the weak link, RG and bump the WR’s to give them time to get pressure. Pittsburgh did it and then Chi did it so that is the plan. Jameis will not have the benefit of surprise but will still be expected to put up the same numbers, its just not realistic.

  22. DB55 Says:

For those who don’t know Winston’s jersey and cleats have been hanging in the halls of Canton for a number of years now.

Winston made it to the HOF as a rookie so please try again.

  23. D-Rome Says:

Think about it: What is the one thing that folks scream about Jameis until their throat is raw? He doesn’t win enough

This argument drives me crazy! When it comes to QBs people say, “What’s his record?” Win/Loss record is a stupid way to evaluate a QB. Rex Grossman has a winning record for his career.

Speaking of which, say what you will about Lovie Smith but it really is amazing that he lead a team to a Super Bowl with Rex Grossman: A guy that threw 23 TDs and 20 INTs that year while only completing 54% of his passes.

  24. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

The best thing for Jameis and Evans is to escape the nfl black hole that is Buccaneers football. Team will never compete nor win another playoff game with glazers in ownership role…. their next predictable move will be to hire that failed clown dungy so we can watch him puke all over himself trying to recreate a failed past just like the failed lovie Smith publicity stunt

  25. BucEmUp Says:

Is this a joke???!!! C’mon man I’ve been saying this for how long? SINCE WINSTON WAS DRAFTED!!!!

I PAINT HOUSES FOR A LIVING SURELY IT DIDN’T TAKE THIS LONG FOR “EXPERTS” TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT!

  26. DB55 Says:

    Ndog

You should call mike Smith an educated him on this ‘bump the WR’ notion you have. Mike Smith has obviously never heard of such tactics bc if he had surely Gabriel wouldn’t have been running free all day.

And his Def has never ever jammed receivers at the line, never!

  27. Bobby M. Says:

Fitzpatrick has won more then half his games with same defense….

  28. Ryan McGregor Says:

    JOE,

In order for Jameis to keep pace with the amount of points our defense will surely give up these next few weeks, he will not only have to put up big time stats, but he will have to play MISTAKE-FREE football. That’s the REAL reason all the optimism fans once had for this season is now gone. Mistake-free football is simply not Jameis’ game and we knew that when he was drafted.

  29. Big Stinky Says:

    Joe

If Jameis averages 30 points a game like he should with this offense everyone will know it’s not his fault that we lost. Problem is, he only averages 20 points a game and that just isn’t enough without a stout defense. I would hate to lose DK next year because of how good this offense has looked at times but we may need to see a new DC get a chance with these players. This may not be a talented team on defense anyway so a new DC might not even help. Jameis has 12 games to show what he has learned from Dirk so far. If he can’t get it done why should we keep him? Learning a new offense is going to take time that we don’t have.

  30. Red86 Says:

It happens to Freeman as well. Which probably lead to he drug abuse. Now we have two quarterbacks that set franchise records with crappy defense. Both had overrated McCoy as the leader on not getting consistent pressure on the qb. He has 0 excuses too. It been 9 yrs and he has come up with a strategy to get pass double team often? Meanwhile Vita Vea just had his first start and beat one guy while pushing the second guy to the quarterback. Smh. Sad to see that most fan are just as blindly in love with McCoy when he and his defensive lineman are the problem the whole time. You bring up pro bowls, but ignore that Will Gholston got more tackles than McCoy. Yet, McCoy still to the pro bowls that year.

It’s crazy how Tampa “was” known for their defense in the late 90’s. Yet gives our garbage defense a pass for over a decade.

Let’s imagine Winston plays PERFECT football for the next 3 months. No interceptions, fumbles, turnovers and score TDs on every single drive. What will the hater say then when the defense still loses the games?

Bc last yr he had the lead in at least 4 games going into the fourth and we still lost. His last 5 games were the best games of his career and we still lost.

The kid will never ever satisfy certain fans, ever!

This is 100% accurate. Although we have played more press coverage this year, we still don’t jam the receivers for reasons I simply can’t figure out.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

  37. Buc4evr Says:

Sad really, talent wasted due to subpar coaching. Koetter is a dead man walking and he either doesn’t see it or doesn’t care. Smith will sink the ship and I guess the captain is willing to sink with it.

  38. Blue-footed booby Says:

Oh boy looks like people are already crying foul before the inevitable happens when Winston is released after the Glazers clean house come January. I knew the excuses for Winston would come as we get closer to the end of the year but I guess Joe does have the foresight to see that a new regime would absolutely refuse to hitch their wagon to a guy who’s one incident away from being banned from the NFL for good.
The only real interesting question by then will be is if any team even signs Winston next offseason as a free agent. If he remains unsigned by say, June/July 2019, then that should speak volumes for the Winston defenders on this site as to how the rest of the NFL truly thinks of him.

  39. Buc4evr Says:

No quarterback in the NFL can win games with this defense. The Glazers better bring someone in to “help” Smith this week.

  40. Alanbucsfan Says:

They lost the Pittsburgh game because of mistakes- they should’ve been 3-0 going in to Bears game. Injuries , mental letdowns, poor coaching, poor effort led to Bears blowout.
It is up to coaching staff to have this team ready for Falcons- a healthier Bucs team should win with solid effort.
If we see another performance like Bears game, then the team has quit on coaches…

  41. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

It’s really simple he will have to force throws because he is always playing from behind because if he doesn’t take risk we will be down by 30 in the first half. So his numbers will probably say he sucks because I don’t know of any QBs who would do well with this crap of a defense. Fitz did well for two games but he was playing at elite level that is hard to sustain yet we still almost lost the game. That will always be on the back of our QBs minds knowing that if they don’t score then the other team will probably score. So yes he could be doomed just like any other QB inserted with this team.

  42. DB55 Says:

Holy cow! Did Hawaii just agree with me? FAKENEWS FAKENEWS! Must a be a full moon or something. Lol

  43. Big Stinky Says:

    @ Buc4evr

Fitz is 4-3 as a starter over the last 2 years with the same defense that people are blaming for all of Winston’s losses. If he wasn’t playing from behind all the time maybe he would win more often.

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

Here is the problem. This is all premature. Our defense is weak but as bad as Sunday? Probably not.

Jameis detractors makes some valid points as do his supporters.
The season is 1/4 finished and we are at .500. I would take .500 at the halfway mark as well because I think this team has a lot of room for growth and improvement in the second half of the season. If Jameis gets us to 4-4 with this defense I’ll be impressed.

Let’s see what the bye does for our health. And lets see how a few more games unfold before we sum up the entire season.

  45. Joe Says:

Here is the problem. This is all premature. Our defense is weak but as bad as Sunday? Probably not.

Four games (25 percent of the season) or for that matter, 20 games is too small of a sample size for you?

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

The biggest problem with Buc Nation is..we are always Hoping, Wishing, and Praying things will turn around. Game after game, Yr after yr. Buc Life means its just another losing game..another..losing season. stuck on Edge of Tomorrow repeat Cyvle!! I think the old man Glazer had more heart than any of them. This regime simply does not know what or how to create a winner. They know profits though. Its truly mind boggling An NFl defense could play as poorly as ours does.
Last in the League. And our answer to improve this last place? Why just keep on doin what we been doin..a break will come thru Prayer.. TBN ain’t helpin us. Meaning the Glazers are sayin to us, Shut up Fans we’re gonna ran this losing season right down yer throats…again.

  47. Frank Pillow Says:

We’re 2-2 and yet it feels like we’re on the verge of a cataclysmic meltdown. I want to be an optimist. I want to believe in the power of Jaboo. I want to marvel at the schematic wizardry of Smitty the Great. I want to bask in the superhuman strength of Mt. Vea, Geraldini’s get-off, Grimes’ eternal youth and the fleet-footedness of the enigmatic RoJo. I want to see a Li-Ti-Rilla prowling the field with King David. I want heat from my Curry and a flash from JPP. I want Harvard down the seam and a full cup of OJ. I want WRs with hands and minds engaged. I was the sweet speed of the DJax. I want my man Dirk, to look in the mirror- to stare long and hard at his reflection- and carry that big stick he once talked about.

Sadly, I doubt I get much of any of it. It’s just not in this team’s DNA to rebound and brush off two bad losses (yes, the Steelers game was a bad loss/terrible mess too). Instead, the finger-pointing will commence. Fitz v. Jaboo. Smitty v. Dirk. Dirk v. Licht. Execution v. Coaching. Coaching v. Talent. Communication v. Effort. Zero accountability for any of it.

As the great Led Zeppelin once sang:

    Communication breakdown
    It’s always the same
    I’m having a nervous breakdown
    Drive me insane!

  48. Big Stinky Says:

Man, I am so sick of people making excuses for Winston. Fitz would be 5-2 as a starter with the same defense if Godwin didn’t drop the TD pass against the Steelers. Enough with the excuses. We have been waiting for JW to stop with all the turnovers for 3 years now. Blame it on playing from behind but most of that is his own fault. The right move in 2015 was to trade the first pick and get an extra first round pick the following year and some other picks as well. The last 2 years were the years to be trying to get a new QB. We had a QB in Glennon that we should have given more of a chance to succeed but Licht and Smith wanted JW instead. MG8 and JW3 had the same stats through 18 games so don’t tell me that Jameis is such a better QB than him. This franchise just continues to make the wrong decisions over and over again.

  49. Bucsfanman Says:

I wonder if there is a way to mitigate a poorly playing defense? Hmmmm! What’s that thing called where the QB hands some other guy the ball and he runs?!
On defense, are you allowed to adjust to the offense?! You know, a couple of people gave me grief for this but it deserves to be repeated. I would rather us throw the book at teams and get beat than play vanilla schemed defenses and STILL let the offense score. At least give us a chance!
Yea, the defense might get Jameis sent out of here, especially if we don’t win many games.

  50. DB55 Says:

What’s that thing called where the QB hands some other guy the ball and he runs?!
    ———–
Watch the game again. Winston first play was a hand off and Hicks almost stole the handoff. It happened again the in fourth this time it was Nichols almost stealing the handoff.

The oline is so weak not only can you not run the ball you can barely hand it off.

Props to Barber for outstanding yards after contact, he’s the only ball carrier not afraid of contact. Well him and Godwin but, fumbles.

I’m with you, if we can not cover for three seconds then why not send the house on most plays as opposed to giving up 8 play 75 yard drives over and over again.

For most teams 30% success rate on blitzing is too low, but for the Bucs I would take it, because it would probably mean they would get a stop every third possession which is better than what they are doing now.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

Joe…you can spell it out for them in plain english NUMEROUS times.

It doesn’t matter what they see from the D….they say Fitzy overcame that…so should Jameis…but he should do EVEN better cause he’s Jameis.

What if the D continues to look lost? Doesn’t matter.

I’m not going to sit here and type all the reasons (excuses?) for losses. I can and have. These fans were duh in the moment he was drafted. They see nothing outside of Jameis BETTER win.

A-Train will tell you JW’s supporters (which should be every fan)told us he could walk on water and he’s the savior….so be it. That’s the mindset Joe. Doesn’t matter what they see from everyone else on the team. WR’s might continue to drop more balls this next week too…..that was the WR’s fault against the Bears. If they drop passes against the Falcons…then it was Winston’s fault.

If Brent Grimes gets torched for 3 TD’s…..you guessed it that was Jameis Winston’s fault. Kicker misses 3 FG’s….Winston’s fault.

  55. tnew Says:

This really should be titled Koetter will wreck Winston. Koetter is the head coach and could’ve insisted on changes within the defensive staff or at least scheme during the off season. Koetter is acting like Wade Phillips is running his defense. This team is in desperate need of a director of Football Operations. I will keep pounding that. As long as the Glazers are in total charge of the executive hires without a true football guy in place this will continue to happen. Since Koetter has been head coach there have been four guarantees.

Gain a ton of yards through the air
No running game at all (want to help a first year QB, get a good running game. All of you pointing at the success of young QB’s, find one with no running game)
    Historically bad defense
Bottom quarter special teams (with the exception of Anger in 2016)

  56. Buc1987 Says:

tnew…the bottom half is all excuses…..

You can’t tell anyone different…especially the ones that are dug in.

They let Freeman go….he did nothing….they let Glennon go…he did nothing.

Let this kid go……this team is going to regret that for a loooooong while.

  57. SkBucs Fan Says:

I am not a Jaemis fan. I believe he is inaccurate, makes way too many mistakes and isn’t mature enough to play in this league. However, there is some merit to the argument of always having to play from behind and therefore taking chances to get back in the game.

I give the Glazer’s some kudos for signing Jameis through the 2019 season. I really want to see if he can mature, and more importantly, if he can win with the good offense we have and a hopefully improved defense next season. If not, then we can send him packing and start re-building…again.

  58. Bucsfanman Says:

’87- Not for nothing but last year, everything was Martin’s fault! LOL!

DB55- Yea man, I saw. I can’t believe how awful we are at running. Clock control is the only way, besides outscoring teams, to mitigate a bad defense. We’re not going to outscore every team, obviously!
Check the playbook Monken. Dial up some triple-option if you have to!

  59. Greg Says:

Joe is already defending Jameis. We forfeit the season with this QB change! Fitz was putting up record numbers and limited turnovers. Jameis will miss receivers and get more fumbles and interceptions guaranteed! The defense is terrible which only makes not turning the ball over even more crucial. This is Jason light still trying to justify picking the wrong quarterback and paying the ridicules contract for Mike Smith. We will lose again and everyone will be fired and sad news to all you Jameis fans but as Joe has written before… New GM/Coach means new QB!!!

  60. 808bucsfan Says:

They benched Fitz cause they thought he wasn’t doing good and there is someone else to take his place, ok I get that. Cant Dirk use the same thought process to sit Smith there surely is someone else who can take his place, right? Compare Fitz failures/faults to those of Smith’s and be honest who is the bigger reason we lost 2 games. It’s ok that you benched Fitz bu t c’mon man Smith has failed the Bucs for years, make the change.

  61. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

Jameis has nothing to worry about. All he needs to do is get 375 yds per game. This will get him a NICE check next year. At this point Jameis is watching out for himself and rightlly so since the season is shot along with the coaching staff.

  62. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

^ and 3 tds per game

  63. Jmarkbuc Says:

“…they say Fitzy overcame that…so should Jameis…but he should do EVEN better cause he’s Jameis

Pro Jameis peeps were saying just that as well..

  64. Nick Says:

Mike Smith will also take Jameis down due to this fact. Mike Smith runs our defense on game day….and on practice days. Jameis is seeing the same bland, non-blitzing defense in practice as our opponents do on game day. Jameis might develop a false sense of confidence because he can conquer it during practice and also be confused as hell during games because he’s never seen other defensive strategies.

Mike Smith is the cannon ball that will sink the Bucs pirate ship.

  65. 1sparkybuc Says:

The season is not over at 2-2. The defense can’t be this bad sixteen games in a row. Jameis can put up some points with this offense and some teams won’t be able to keep up. We’re not going 2-14. It’s stupid to rush to judgment at the end of September.. The team will get players healthy and beat the fowlgoons. One game at a time people. Jameis is primed to carry this team to at least 8-8.

  66. Dominican Bucs #1Fan Says:

    Even worse perspective here:
Haters will never admit it, but when you are pressed to pass 100% of the times and the opposing Defense knows you will they sit down to wait for him to throw to them easy interceptions or even worse he sits down the pocket to wait until receivers get deep and the Pass Rushers cause him to loose the ball on strip sacks. And there you will have the second most questionable trait from haters: Turnovers.
But, history will tell. Next Jameis team will be a lot better and he will thrive. He is a lot better than we think he is…

  67. Wausa Says:

If the Bucs defense continues to be the worst in the NFL I can not see how the Bucs win 8 games.

I said it many times before. The Bucs do not have to be great on defense, but if they can be average the Bucs will win 10+ games.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Mike Smith can coach the defense anywhere close to being average.

  68. AlteredEgo Says:

I am too depressed from last Sunday to read articles or post…in case ya’ll were worried about me 😉

  69. Gene Deckerhoff is my hero Says:

At this point, as a Jameis supporter I want him to go somewhere else and start over with a better organization. The attacks on his character from this fanbase and the local media have been downright mean and sickening.

  70. From76 Says:

This team won’t win with this defense. Our best players looked lost. Receivers were uncovered and you could see the players looking at each other wondering what went wrong. They were disheartened and you could see it. Sorry but it’s bad coaching plain and simple.

  71. Buc1987 Says:

    Bobby M. Says:

“Fitzpatrick has won more then half his games with same defense….”

Not the same defense…not even close to the same roster.

    Makes some more stuff up.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

    Walter Seidel Says:

“Oh, NONE of this is America’s Crotchgrabbers fault!!!”

You’re missing the point ALL of this is Winston’s fault.

    EVERYTHING!

  73. BuccaneEric75 Says:

The thing that pisses me off every game is that we win the toss then defer to the second half. Terd Koetter knows that we have the worst defense in the league. How about taking the ball and scoring first so the other team has to start from behind? I get the strategy, if we had a top 10 Defense. Terd needs to stop deferring and at least give the O a chance to put up points first. This drives me crazy.

  74. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

I think anyone who doesn’t see Jameis as the future for our team has to tune out the noise and look at the facts !

  75. SOEbuc Says:

IT’S A TEAM SPORT AND THESE HAVE BEEN AWFUL TEAMS FOR YEARS DUE TO COACHING!!!

How is Jameis or any other player suppose to feel when your losing by 5 TDs at the half! They’re thinking “OH MY GOD THIS DEFENSE IS SO AWFUL NO WAY WE CAN COME BACK!” Guys get the jitters and don’t play as tough cus they don’t want to get hurt and be out for the season.

Terrible games are a domino effect that ends with the most important player. The QB.

If ATL puts up at least 28 pts (win or loss) against us, please tell Koetter and JL in the post game PC that they’re both being STUBBORN and STUPID and everyone of your fans and analysts is getting very angry at this team because Smith’s head isn’t on a pike. Get a successful HS coach or ME to come run the defense because there can’t be anyone worse.

  76. T REX Says:

Lots of excuses already. Can you at least wait till America’s turnover machine needs them?

  77. adam from ny Says:

smith honestly doesn’t know how to fix the issues…he’s somehow not qualified…so he will keep taking checks till there are no more issued to him
