Jameis Was “Dumb”

October 22nd, 2018

Scolded by national scribe.

People in the NFL who know America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, rave about his football smarts. Even Bucs coach Dirk Koetter beats the drum for Jameis’ IQ.

Joe has heard the same for years now.

But on the football field, Jameis is becoming known as a downright dumb player. Joe hates typing that but we can all see with our own eyes and sadly, the evidence mounts each game.

It has now gotten to the point where Mike Florio-arguing, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionistparrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training social activist Peter King, star of NBC Sports fame has now dropped the “dumb” label on Jameis.

Just like Dirk Koetter was angered, King was appalled at Jameis not getting rid of the football in overtime, which damn near cost the Bucs a chance at a game-winning field goal (which, in turn, could have cost a lot of folks in the organization their jobs).

What in the world is Jameis Winston doing, holding the ball and holding the ball and holding the ball, on the verge of field-goal range late in overtime? He held it long enough to allow Myles Garrett to sack him. Just a dumb play.

Jameis is an enigma worthy of a shrink to study. The guy is so smart, yet does downright dumb things and they seem to continue.

Joe hopes Team Glazer doesn’t come to the conclusion that Jameis might need a new voice in his ear. If Jameis continues to be Bad Jameis rather than Good Jameis, he’s going to force Team Glazer to do just that.

That would be a crying shame if folks are run from One Buc Palace because some of Jameis’ stunts lead to losses.

    Move On . Bucs

  2. Sarasotabuc Says:

If you think they are going to fire all coaches and keep that dumbass, we have YEARS to go before we smell playoffs. Quit kidding yourself he isn’t America’s QB he sucks and the tape don’t lie

  3. Kalind Says:

Don’t need to turn over the whole staff Joe. Just toss Bahamian, (who shouldn’t have been hired in the first place.) if he needs a new voice…how about a new (read: real) QB coach??

  4. ChrisBakersBib Says:

    First we heard..he’s a rookie..need to mature..then we heard..learning a new offense..now its…..yea, ran out of excuses..the guy isnt that good..just admit it JW bandwagon posse… ask yourself..you really wanna give a guy who throws 2 picks a game 100 million bucks..gfc..no

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

Imagine how many turnovers and fumbles Jameis would have if he was not suspended for the first 3 games….

What a crap article. You didn’t need to publish this trash. Amateur hour. The kid makes mistakes like every QB in the league. The faster he gets out of this town, the better his life will be. You rubes don’t deserve to scribe for him during his career. Have fun belittling a good kid. You’ll have plenty of sheep that’ll follow this narrative. Keyboard warrior.

  8. Dapostman Says:

When QB’s hold the ball too long it’s mostly likely they do not want to make a mistake knowing they will get grilled. The sack was typical of playing not to lose instead of playing confidently and playing to win. After the sack that put them in 3rd and 29 or so there was virtually nothing to lose so what does Winston do? He fires a strike to DJax so set up the 59 yarder. Sports are mental. Play to win at all times. Winston is always playing to win except that OT I could see he was playing not to lose.

  9. The Real Malloy Says:

We’ve seen enough. Make him inactive or trade him. Fitz might not have his arm, but he wont turn the ball over like Jameis. With an improved defense, he can get us to the playoffs. If you are denying that the team has a complete different energy when Fitz is in, then there is no helping you. They play for Fitz. They don’t play for Jameis. If you need any more evidence, Marpet took his place as a captain. That says it all.

  10. martinii Says:

Ya can’t criticize a “W” no matter how hard you try

  11. Only1Buc Says:

totally agree gilhealy…..Doug Williams left and won a superbowl. they’ll do the same to the next qb and the next. this article was garbage

  12. Dapostman Says:

I posted this on a previous article and probably should have waited for this article,

Article on ESPN from Mike Sando:

Teams ideally support their young quarterbacks with a strong defense and ground game. The Buccaneers have not done this for Winston. They’ve given him excellent receiving weapons, thrown him the keys to the car and asked him to slam down the accelerator in an effort to outscore opponents.

The numbers tell a striking story. Winston’s passes have traveled past the first-down marker on 57 percent of attempts, by far the highest rate for any of the 29 quarterbacks with at least 1,000 pass attempts since 2015. Meanwhile, the Bucs have played good defense — 50th percentile or higher in ESPN’s efficiency metric — in about 35 percent of his starts. That is the lowest rate for any of those 29 QBs and about half the rate for Case Keenum and Russell Wilson.

Winston has played OK for a team that has needed him to play like Drew Brees.

Also on ESPN, only 2 QB’s have a passer rating of BELOW 105 when throwing to open WR:

    Bortles
    Mariota

Good night………………Keep Winston. He will only get better.

  13. Ramy B. Says:

    @The Real Malloy
Fitz won’t turn it over like Jameis?!? Did you not watch him throw THREE straight picks against the Steelers with one being a pick six? You must forget Fitz has had 5 and 6 INT games before.

  14. Ray Rice Says:

About as dumb as Geraldine McBooty’s smile after getting run over.

  15. Buc50 Says:

Mariota sucks too by the way. I feel the need to smash the Mariota nut huggers before they start posting.

  16. DB55 Says:

The way I see it Winston got hit on 2 or the 3 turnovers and the third wouldn’t have happened if we could make a kick. Make either of the 2 missed kicks and there’s no overtime.

Or if Djax catches a perfectly thrown TD pass

Or if the receivers catch passes that hit their hands (ME,Hump,OJ)

And for those radio host who think Kwon is so great tell me who great was he in week 6 or week 4? Gimme a break!

Everyone on this team gets a pass for sub-par play (gmc, kwon, wrs and the kicker) yet Winston is expected to literally be perfect.

  17. SKBucsFan Says:

The sooner everyone learns to accept the fact we have an average quarterback the better off we will be. He makes some good decisions combined with some bad ones. He is inconsistent in his accuracy, and cannot hit a long pass, but offers to carry the ball and make some crucial first downs. The truth is we never know what to expect from him every time the ball is snapped. It’s both fun and worrisome to watch.
We can win with an average quarterback. (Improve the DL/OL and we will win). The problem is as a former #1 pick the expectations are huge. It’s up to us to accept the fact he can be brutal and just have fun cheering for OUR team!

  18. DB55 Says:

Fitz won’t turn the ball over? Did you miss the Steelers or Bears game? People can’t possibly be this blind, can they?

  19. unbelievable Says:

    Good post Dapostman.

I was gonna say, having your QB throw 52 or 62 pass attempts is a recipe for disaster for anyone not named Brees or Brady. That’s just the simple truth. Especially going against a decent pass defense.

  20. LakeLand Says:

Adam Wells of the Bleacher Report says that Jameis is holding the Bucs back

Jameis Winston Is Holding Bucs Back

It typically takes NFL teams a long time before they can admit to themselves that a first-round quarterback—especially a No. 1 overall pick—isn’t going to be the star they were hoping for.
JaMarcus Russell is the only quarterback drafted first overall who lasted fewer than four seasons with the team that selected him since 1967.
Winston has made it into his fourth season with the Buccaneers, but it’s time for the franchise to acknowledge he isn’t going to be the long-term solution at quarterback.

  21. Jonny Says:

I am a Jameis fan, but this guy never makes it easy for us to root for him. When he has the opportunity to put games away, he makes dumb plays. When the game is close, he makes dumb plays. When he is expected to lead us to a win, he makes dumb plays. The only times he has played well is when the stakes are low. His statlines look good at the end of some games, but he is more Kirk Cousins type stat stuffer at this point. I think Jameis should start every single game this season, but Fitzpatrick’s playstyle has some clear benefits for this offense.

  22. LakeLand Says:

    That’s coming from Adam Wells

  24. Mike in MO Says:

Kudos to the Real Malloy for stating the obvious. Not being named captain by his peers says it all. Start Fitz. This team plays with a different mindset with him at the helm.

  25. lambchop Says:

Ronde Barber called out Jameis live on the broadcast for the sacks. It’s high time Derrick Brooks gets real with the fans and stops sugar-coating 💩.

I’d rather see Ronde with a role in the organization. This team needs some tough love. Not pats on the back and excuses. For all the “we won” homers, stop being delusional. This team is far from being consistently good. A random victory here or there doesn’t make us contenders, it just does enough to not be the worst team in the league and keeps people in the organization employed and paid for a little bit longer. Loser mentality.

  26. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

    Yeah, tell me about it.

  27. gilhealy Says:

Out of all the Buc websites, FB sites, Twitter sites, etc., this is by FAR the most toxic.

  28. Jameis Slapped My Kitty Says:

    Jameis Winston the franchise killer.

  29. Dapostman Says:

    @Lakeland,

that’s great Adam Wells has an opinion like the other 320 million Americans. Where as Mike Sando from ESPN has given specific facts about Jameis and the Bucs. I’ll take the facts over the opinions.

  30. America’s turnover machine Says:

Joe, what do you see in Winston besides rooting for the home team? What makes him such a likable guy? Dude has been in some serious trouble on and off the field. Same goes for Jameis supporters

  31. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

DaPostman, that is a very great point and however the gm jason gump does not know any blueprint for building a successful winning franchise and this team will not allow jameis to be successful now nor in the future….he is a middle of the road qb but if he had a good OL and decent running game he wouldnt have to throw 70x and be foreced into some questionable decisions

  32. Robert Says:

    just one play?????

He should be called out for 3-6 dumb plays per game

you can’t have that at QB. you sure as hell wouldn’t have it at CB.

Imagine a starting #1 CB that gets burned over the top 3-6 times per game.

He’d be lucky to make an NFL roster after 3 games………

  36. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

THIS IS WHY FITZ GIVES US THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN.

He’s a much more intelligent football player in the heat of the moment (other than that one bonehead pick-6).

  37. Rojas Says:

Lol Fitz doesn’t turn the ball over.. funniest thing I’ve ever read. Must of not watched him this season, or when he played for other teams.

  38. Some Guy’s Burner Says:

He makes bad decisions and he’s also incapable of balancing them out with the deep pass.

The sooner the Bucs move on, the better.

  39. Eric Says:

Typical shallow national take with no substance.

Let Jameis win a few more and suddenly the narrative changes.

  40. Eric Says:

Almost hope they run Jameis off so these idiots can enjoy trying to draft another franchise QB, and yet another rebuild.

  41. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Jameis was trying too hard not to turn the ball over by forcing the play, that he took the sack.

His situational awareness isn’t near Tom Brady, still has a long way to go.

At least he stopped the childish backyard football antics.

    Baby steps

  42. NJBucsFan Says:

Maybe it is not the voice in the ear that needs to change, but the ear the voice is speaking to.

  44. nate s Says:

Im done with Winston hes not worth the money id rather give fitz the ball and spend more money on the secondary and some offensive lineman specifically our right guard the dude sucks…

  45. Not there yet Says:

It’s hard to call people on that level dumb. Especially a quarterback. Call them inaccurate a scary guy who can’t handle pressure but dumb? Was josh Freeman dumb? No he just lacked work ethic nah he was dumb for throwing away his career for drugs so bad example

I just think he’s arrogant, immature and always been on top where he’s played so no one ever got on him about it. He held onto the ball that long to think about being a hero, making a play instead of thinking about the situation, down, distance and time clock. It’s like d jack said last year he needs to stop trying so hard to prove something to people. He’s got a really childish mindset and cannot be allowed to be the franchise with that ignorant mentality. He’s just not an adult yet and we all hoped a child would help him grow up. He is hearing the talk and he’s not handling the pressure of expectations in the nfl very well

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Peter King is a piece of garbage, but all he said was that it was dumb play. QBs have dumb plays all the time, it doesn’t mean they are dumb nor or you calling someone dumb. Additionally there is no way some alt-left nut job like Peter King is going to call any black QB dumb – if he did all his alt-left buddies down at the glory hole where they meet up would kick him out of their club.

  47. Architek Says:

Always excuses, meanwhile a former Big 12 Qb is literally torching defenses and kicking butt with pin point accuracy and good decision making.

    Good luck with this cat…

IMOUT on Jameis – I’ve seen enough.

He will be solid in his 30s but like I said he’s the new age Byron Leftwich with his wind up and accuracy issues and terrible decision making. People tried to tell us before the draft that he would be an INT machine but we drank the Kool Aid. No more Kool Aid for me; I’m not gonna invest emotions in this guy.

He will let you down every time.

  48. Brandon Bob Says:

We have terrible special teams play again, costing us 7 on a bad punt return defense, missed extra point and 40 yard field goal missed and there is no need for a 59 yard game winning field goal. With the historically bad defense we have had the past few years or longer, we likely wouldn’t have won with any QB. Winston made some bad plays, certainly getting sacked while we were already in field goal range, but he made some great runs and passes in clutch situations. If fitztragic did it, he would be praised for doing enough to win the game. Not Winston though….you fools hate him sooo much you would think his name was Barack Obama. You deserve more Trent Dilfers, although your football knowledge probably remembers him as a great QB. smh…

  49. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Joe,

“That would be a crying shame if folks are run from One Buc Palace because some of Jameis’ stunts lead to losses.”

Totally disagree. The front office and coaching staff need to be run from One Buc Advent Health Center….Whether JW stays or not…Barring a Super Bowl win, and we know that ain’t happening.

Definitely wouldn’t be a shame at all.

  50. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Brandon Bob

Dilfer had a lot of the same problems JW has and he got run outta town…

JW is what he has always been, and will in all likelihood remain just that. Every QB in the league faces criticism.Goes with the job. The mediocre ones face even more. Rightly so.

If he and the Bucs part ways, it will be because of his play. It’s that simple.

  51. Jmarkbuc Says:

The “young” argument is dead..see Patrick Mahomes.

The INT to Howard? Cheese and rice, put just a little air under it and TD.

When you need JW to throw high, he can’t. Most other times he’s throwing hospital balls. I hope Godwin’s got some AFLAC..Jameis nearly got him killed.

  52. RickinFtMyers Says:

The Bucs have the film and the Glazers have the cash. It’t tie to hire some unbiased consultants to come in review the tapes and see if Jameis Winston is actually improving or not. If he’s not improving it might be time to move on.

  53. Dapostman Says:

Comparing Trent Dilfer to Jameis Winston is laughable. Dilfer had a defense lead by Sapp, Brooks and Lynch plus a running game with Alstott and Dunn. I don’t see any player on this roster that could compare to any of those 5 players.

  54. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Dapostman

I was more referring to his accuracy and decision making. Trent wasn’t that great at the long ball either, although maybe slightly better than JW.

  55. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Rick

If the Bucs have to hire a consultant to see what Jameis is, we are in even bigger trouble

  56. Rod Munch Says:

I’m a consultant and can sum it up quickly, Jameis is a franchise QB who will be here for the next decade, and the triggered anti-Winston morons will actively root for the team to fail that entire time and even if the Bucs won a SB and was the MVP throwing for 550 yards and 5 TDs they’d say he’s a bust because he had a 1st quarter fumble.

That’s as good of a analysis as anyone can offer, so pay me.

  57. Jerry Jones Says:

As much as I want Jameis to be the man, he’s not helping any of us keep the faith that he’s it.

He does dumb sh!t, makes really strange decisions with the football and it’s beyond frustrating when we know what this offense can do.

  58. Aaron Says:

The only excuse I’ll give Jameis is that he hasn’t exactly had Andy Reid or Sean McVay to help him learn the ropes to start his NFL career.

He has to cut down on the turnovers and he better learn how to be more accurate. As long as we can’t run the ball…we are going to see man coverage with help over the top…

What tickets me off more than anything are the in-game situational errors. We had a 3rd and 20 something early in the game…why not just take the “gimme” 15 yards and give yourself a chance at a field goal. (I Know I know) But you can’t have it both ways…you can’t be mad at JW for forcing a 3rd and very long and it gets picked off vs dropping it off for a FG try with a bad kicker.

And of course the sack in OT was just plan dumb – Cleveland went man for the entire 2nd half and they did have good coverage for most of it too. But he should know that going into that play….But heck our Head Coach threw a challenge flag in OT! The Ref basically reminds you that you can’t review plays in OT. See our QB to Coach football IQ correlation?

  59. Rod Munch Says:

Jerry Jones – Cool story, I very much believe, thanks for sharing. Anywho you best get back to Dallas and wrap up your “franchise” QB Dak to a big deal. LOL!

  60. DNI Says Says:

Well I called it before the game and everyone thought I was nuts. However, a 66.6% QBR, two interceptions, a fumble, holding onto the ball way too damn long, and multiple poor decisions…………..I proved my point about Jamis Winston, he is not a franchise QB. Even Tony Dungy stated (on NBC Football Night in America) that JW did nothing to assist his team. I wouldn’t waste good money on this guy, he has had 4 years to improve and he hasn’t done enough.

  61. Joel Says:

Bad decisions off the field go hand in hand with bad decisions on the field. Wake up Jameis sheep!!!

  62. Robert Says:

    what is triggered?

Isn’t that the cat in winnie the pooh?

  63. AlteredEgo Says:

Jameis is as Jameis does….other than being 2018….Jameis plays the same as he did in college….he will never be much different…Time to start thinking about a new QB in the first round next year….actually Jameis play will get the Bucs a higher pick in the first round…a nice parting gift to the franchise that took a chance on him…just didn’t work out for he or the Bucs

  64. Oneilbucs Says:

Jmark I know a few of them that don’t get criticize. ANDREW Luck, Derrick Carr, Ryan Tannhill, and many more. But Winston will be hated by the national media and this sorry fan base some. We don’t stand behind our quarterback . I can’t wait to see Winston leave this team and win somewhere else. So go a head trade him let him go to a better team and a better fan base. And we draft another quarter back and hope he is good. Cause I will be laughing at all y’all. Just be real a lot of people want a white quarterback. And that’s what y’all realy want just say it .

If you were at the game you would have seen Winston’s picture on the Jumbotron listed as a captain with the rest of the offensive and defensive captains.

Smh, Joe you’re a wise man to have banned me. Something about your posters that will drive any sane man mad.

  76. Dapostman Says:

Let’s not forget that the Bucs have MISSED 42 FG’s/PAT’s since the 2015 season the most in the league. To put it in perspective Winston starting at 21 years old has had to put up with,

    No defense
    No run game
    No kicking game

Sign Winston long term to a team friendly contract. Trade down in the draft to pick up more picks. Use Winston savings wisely pursuing free agents. Build the team around him so I can watch the Bucs play in the 2021 Super Bowl in Tampa.

Bortles, Keenum, the list goes on and on….

BBob..no idea what you are talking about…I doubt you do either..so it’s a wash.

When you play like JW does you’re gonna get criticized.

  79. JimmyJack Says:

There was a lot to be critical of Winston yesterday but the sack he took was not something that bothered me ………What did bother me was our dope of a RT backpedaling right into Winston’s grill on that play before the ball was even snapped

That play had disaster written all over it from the start and I blame Dotson. He guy needlessly creates chaos in the backfield and leaves his QB out to dry to take all the blame……But that’s ok, Winston is the QB. It’s in his job description to take all the blame.

  80. LakeLand Says:

    Kobe,

Tony Dungy is too intelligent to come back to this sideshow

  81. firethecannons Says:

on board with Buc 4 ever dude being asked to throw way way more than any other qb and of course that means more int and more fumble and more sack–stop making the dude throw so much and he look alot better
Most of you folks and at least one of the Joes somehow can’t see that basic fact–who is dumb here?

  82. Bucsdelight Says:

Some people have nailed it here. I think if Jameis would have been drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round, we wouldn’t be saying he has to go. We would be saying, he is playing like he was drafted. Problem is, he was drafted #1 overall and has yet to play like a #1 draft pick.

  83. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs will be wise to go after Mike Mularkey

They should have hired him in 2013 as OC

  84. firethecannons Says:

Tell you who is dumb–Jason Licht for thinkin Beneneoch was going to be an nfl caliber guard

In fact I’m being dumb wasting my time on this dumb website

  85. JimmyJack Says:

Lamarcus I know it’s easy to ride on Donovan for getting beat all day yesterday but why did our coaches never make an adjustment? It’s not like Garrett just up and decided to show up in the second half…….he was getting by Donavon the entire first half.

Even good teams get mismatches on gamedays but the difference is they adjust and fix the issues…….They don’t just go out and allow one guy to dominate then for 5 quarters.

It’s like our coaching he’s aren’t even paying attention to what’s going on out there. It’s effing embarrassing man.

  86. JimmyJack Says:

Lakeland Murlakey would be nice but think bigger bro. The Glazers have been known for seeking out the big hires in the coaching Dept. We may just have a good enough roster to lure one this time………..But enough pissing on my parade, the Bucs are 3-3, their headed to the playoffs and will be going all the way this year or next!! No new coaches needed.

  87. Oneilbucs Says:

Jmark and when he got bench the national media went crazy . Saying that they was worng for benching him . The head coach got fired for it . Derrick Carr is leading the league in ints and no one is saying cut him . Tannhill have sing a 100 mil already . Blake got a new deal . I get it that’s why I hope he leave this piss poor fan base.

  88. D-Rome Says:

After four years we’re still hearing the same old, “I gotta take care of the football” and/or “I just gotta get better.” lines over and over again.

Was Aaron Rodgers saying that after four years as a regular starter? Nope, he was too busy winning an MVP. Peyton Manning was busy making regular appearances to pro bowls. Drew Brees figured it out by his 4th year. The list can go on and on.

I said it in another post. We can make excuses for him all we want, but Jay-Miss will never be in the upper eschelon tiers of NFL Quarterbacks. In terms of career he’ll be closer to Andy Dalton than Carson Wentz. Dalton does just enough to be good but he’ll never take that team over the hump. You know it, I know it, Bengals fans know it. It’ll be no different with Jay-Miss and the Buccaneers. Just because the Bucs haven’t done better than Jay-Miss in the past doesn’t mean the team can’t do better. I don’t think the Bucs should give the big, long term contract to someone who is good but will never be great.

  89. SKBucsFan Says:

    @RodMunch
It’s easy to criticize those that are tough on your boy Jameis. But what exactly do you see in him that makes you think he is great? Is it his quick release? His accuracy? They way he is smart with the ball?
Or is it the stats that all you fanboys refer to?
Maybe if you let us all have a turn at your bong we would see things your way.

  90. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Hey Lake,

I think the Glazer Boys are goin to switch it up this coming year

Think they will hire a President of Operations ala Tom Couglin in Jacs to hire the new GM and HC”

“I think the Glazer Boys will admit they were to close with the GM and all his BSing”

“Glazer Boys going to their comfort zone and hire “Glory from the past”

“They know the NFL and parts of the Tampa fan Base wants Dungy back in the Game”

    Kobe Faker

  91. Pewter Says:

This site has officially become the NYT. Congrats Joes on reaching the bottom of the barrel in terms of clickbait. LOL. Peter King is a respected voice by many. Joe is sharing King’s insight here and commenting on it. If that’s “clickbait,” then whatever. Joe, along with lots of fans, is interested in hearing what some national types are saying about our beloved Buccaneers. –Joe

  92. Brad Isherwood Says:

    In JW defence,…
He had the shoulder injury to work thru from the past.
And….He had his past catch up with him.

The Caneing by the League : )

    Is JW a Leader?
Can he Improve on basic skills and decisions?

We will know in 2 weeks.
    Problem is….that’s past Trade Deadline.
After….you might have to eat the $$…bench him and hope Jason Licht can pawn him off on someone off season.

JW past injury may have kept Management in sympathy mode .
That can’t excuse non performance now.

  93. jmarkbuc Says:

    Oneill

I didn’t go crazy when Eli got benched…And there’s talk of Gruden trading Carr, or at least benching him. Were the Raiders wrong to give Carr that Big Contract? Absolutely. The Dolphins and Tannehill..same.

That’s the whole point, none of these guys should have gotten those deals. Doesn’t mean we have to make the same mistake.

Jameis is OK, not great. Nothing said here is gonna change that.

  94. BrianBucs Says:

Not going to come on here and call Winston or anybody else dumb, that gets too personal.
If somebody does want to use the word dumb, the dumb move was on Jason Licht for making the bad mistake of drafting Winston in the first place.

  95. Fartman Says:

Jameis is worse than a bust… at least with a bust you can move on quickly. Jameis is just good enough to keep you hanging on way longer than you should.

  96. Bobby M. Says:

Winston is simple to explain….he lacks awareness. In both real life and in football. He was probably at his best when football could be randomly taken from him by FSU/Jimbo Fisher….They could bench him…suspend him…etc to get his attention. The Bucs cant do that….and he knows this. He’s going to be who he is and that’s that. He’ll give you stats that make you see the potential but the losses will keep racking up along with the turnovers and dumb plays. With the same coaches and players….somehow Fitzpatrick wins more then he loses and somehow Winston does the opposite. I think Winston might one day put it all together but i’m not sure how many teams are willing to pay someone $20 million per year to develop over a decade.

  97. DB55 Says:

Peyton had Marshall Faulk and Aaron Rodger stayed on the bench for 3 years.

I can only imagine how perfect your wives must be. No imperfections accepted huh? Bc the Bucs are so great historically speaking that every tier 1 Free Agent trips over themselves to sign with this wonderful fan base. So wonderful in fact that the entire second level was completely vacant. Smh.

Karma will bite you guys hard. Very very hard.

  98. Dre Says:

No one will pay jameis 20 mill per …. he’s not worth it

  99. adam from ny Says:

let’s get jameis well and get his a team shrink…yeeeessss! 🙂

    #WeLoveJameisAndWantHimWell

  100. SKBucsFan Says:

    @ Adam
There is a solution. It’s called Ritalin. Doctor prescribed Ritalin. However, it is on the NFL’s banned substance list. Maybe the Bucs could show game footage of Winston in action and get an exemption.

  101. Blind Melon Says:

“…The guy is so smart….” How is the this statement proven true?

I’m struggling trying to think how this is so.

No bias, No hater-ade, I just don’t get it.

Would love some actual enlightenment here…

  102. JimmyJack Says:

You guys labeling Winston “ok, bad mediocre” whatever are nothing but white noise really……………No of this babbling you are doing on October 22 will mean a lick.

Did you guys not rub your eyes this morning or something? Last time I checked we have at least ten games left in this season. All the critism in the world is not going to stop Winston from being our QB in Cincy.

The only question I have for you screaming critics is if you would rather be proven right or wrong about your proclamations over the last ten games?

  103. stpetebucsfan Says:

I don’t know if it’s literally a problem with bad eyes…or just the “athletic condition” of not seeing the field very well.

That one interception yesterday really got to me. OJ was open well past the Brown defender who simply stepped into the lane and picked it thank you Jameis. I’ve come to believe Jameis is not always aware of who is doing what on the football field…I don’t think he really “sees” the field.

  104. SKBucsFan Says:

I am not going to change my opinion that Winston is average. However, as I have stated before average is okay. It’s not $20 million okay, but it’s good enough to compete. Hopefully our defensive play keeps improving and we win the majority of those 10 remaining games. I believe we can compete!

  105. Alanbucsfan Says:

    You know what is dumb?
Changing offensive linemen, changing running backs, but keeping the same terrible OL coach and running backs coach whose less than 3 yards per carry results over the last 3 years would get any other coaches in NFL fired.
It was Jameis’ completion to DJax that gave Cantanzaro opportunity to make game winner.
And that was after Jameis put them in position to win in regulation.

You want to beat down Jameis every game? Fair enough- he’s got no running game, crappy results from OLine – he knows he has receivers- between his passing and rushing Sunday – he had over 400 yards offense. Maybe if he got a little help, the mistakes would go down.
Koetter’s good ol’ boy coach club needs to go…

  106. Buc4evr Says:

Do you guys realize that with players like Benenoch there is no such thing as play action. No team we face is worried about the run. Licht and Koetter have left our QB with only two options: pass even in triple coverage or run the ball himself. Kind of sad because Jameis is getting ruined because of an extremely weak o-line, the worst defense in the history of the Bucs, and of course the kicking problems with no end in sight. This team has a lot more problems than the QB position. Doug Williams wasn’t a valued QB either. Then he went to Washington and won the SB. Same thing will happen with Jameis if the Bucs dump him.

  107. Kobe Faker Says:

“Lol so the Bucsheep think JW is a final product at 24 years old!

Lol some of the HOF greatest QBs didnt even start their 1st year at the age of 24!”

“1thing your Kobe agrees with the Buc sheep is that its time for JW and Tampa to go to a different direction”

    Your Kobe Faker

  108. Oneilbucs Says:

It’s just like what Kardell Stawart said the margin of error for a black quarterback is slim to none. They are judged harder by fans and the national media. You mean to tell me that a 24 year old quarterback who is still learning and every year he has gotten better that it’s time to cut him is just crazy . White quarterbacks gets a chance to grow . Don’t tell me about Blake Bortles cause they still giving him 5 years or more. But he will sit in the league for the next 10 or 15 years just like fizpatrick and other white quarterbacks . Look at how they did Wilson after they won a Superbowl it was because of the defense and running game. They discredit him the hold time . But Andrew Luck throws a lot of picks and never will you here cut him or trade him. It’s a differents so I aspect the same for Winston just like every other young black quarterback if they not going to super bowls or wining mvp they are bust . Don’t matter how bad the team is . I have never heard the national media talk how bad the bucs defense is. It’s all ways the black quarter backs fault when the team lose . That’s the truth….

  109. Loyaltotheend Says:

NFL people need to stop saying how smart he is until he shows it on the field he’s an average turnover prone qb

  110. Loyaltotheend Says:

47 starts still turning the ball over and bad ball placement

Not about race it’s about a #1 overall pick not living up to the hype. Pre draft we were told he’s pro ready accurate high football IQ but it’s not translating to the field

I think he’s back here next year but won’t get signed long term until he plays consistently well

  111. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod Munch

That’s easily the worst consultation ever, if anything you owe the people money.

It’s hilarious how you mock Dak Prescott about not being a franchise QB but have already declared Jameis to be a franchise QB who all be here for the next decade. Prescott and Jameis have nearly identical QBR’s this season and if you’re not a QBR guy Prescott has a 2:1 TD to INT ratio, playoff wins and so far a better career than Jameis. I don’t think Prescott is a franchise QB but he’s done miles better than your “franchise QB” Winston.

Another thing, if Winston wins us a Super Bowl I’m sure you will nobody I mean absolutely NOBODY complaining about him as a Bucs fan. Did people hate on guys like Nick Foles or BRAD JOHNSON when they won SB’s? Neither of those guys are franchise QB’s but if you get the job done you deserve praise. Even Dilfer got love after winning a SB. Bad quarterback, but were Ravens fans complaining when they got a SB? Stupid argument. The moment Winston leads us to the SB, hell just makes the PLAYOFFS, you will have to look far to find someone who will want to can him.

Also, I can’t speak for everyone, but myself and a lot of other Bucs fans don’t want Winston to fail. If he fails, then that means the Bucs fail and Bucs fans don’t want that. I don’t think Jameis is our guy based on his play and actions on and off the field. He’s in a contract year and so far in his 4th season he has NOT played like a No.1 overall “franchise QB” and is getting outplayed by people younger and taken way far back in the draft, not to mention his back up QB. He has a top 3 receiving corp. I want him to do well, I want him to be a franchise QB and I want him to get an extension. If he deserves it.

    So far he has not.

  112. passthebuc Says:

“I have never heard the national media talk how bad the bucs defense is.”
    —————————

Have you not watched any sports show in the last month?

The Bucs defense is bad, bad enough to fire the DC. Every talking head on TV has had something to say about it.

Hard to take you seriously..with your weird takes on reality

  116. Bucsfanman Says:

    It’s the defense’s fault!!! Right?!
WTF is up with this offense?! And puh-lease can someone put an APB out on the chemistry between Jameis and DJax!
Everybody’s pointing to the one pass where the defender made a great play. What about the other 2-3 overthrown balls?!!!
10 games to prove he’s the guy. Current grade: incomplete. Get it right Jameis!

  117. BigMacAttack Says:

Derp never should have pulled Fitz in the first place. Trade Winston and McCoy, go with Fitz for now and then see what Griffin can do. Jameis is clearly not the future QB for Tampa. Draft a QB when the right one comes along.

  118. Notabucsfan Says:

So let’s review for a second. Shaky O-line? Check. No running game at all? Check. A joke of a kicking game? Check. Swiss cheese defensive secondary? Check. Amateur coaching staff? Check. Owners that don’t care as long as they are making money? Check. An historic incompetant franchise? Check. Clueless idiotic fans that don’t realize they root for the forever hopeless bucs? Check. Add it all up and it is beyond obvious that the 24 year old QB is the problem. Make that the 24 year old BLACK QB playing in the redneck rivera and it is beyond question that JW is the problem. And you folks think Fitz is the answer? Typical bucs.

Look, there are these things called facts that are hard to get around and just have to be accepted. The facts are as follows: 1) The bucs have sucked in the past. 2) The bucs suck in the present. 3) The bucs will suck for as long as the Glazers own them. 4) You are a fan of the most inept pro franchise in the history of pro franchises, so the sooner you accept this the better your life will be.

I stil believe JW will be a great NFL QB, but we will never know untill he gets a chance to play on an actual, real NFL team. So trade him to anybody and enjoy watching the real Fitz. Tampa Bay doesn’t deserve having him.

  119. Brandon Short Says:

Tom Winston looks like a rookie at times. A bad rookie. Yes, Tom as in Turn Over Machine.

  120. Echase Says:

At least Fritz can hit a receiver running a route Winston throws to a spot and hopes.

  121. Notabucsfan Says:

And another thing. Being bucs fans you guys should know this, but you get the number 1 pick BECAUSE YOU ARE THE WORST TEAM IN THE EFFING LEAGUE. The teams that draft QB later in the draft aren’t a suck arse team like the bucs and have real NFL caliber coaches and players to compliment them. When you suck as bad as the bucs historically have, one player is NOT going to turn the team around. But please continue to blame the 24 year old. I guess he is to blame for you guys sucking your entire franchise history. Any of you older bucs fans remember Ricky Bell? The bucs ruined that kid and I only hope JW gets the hell away from Tampa and to a real NFL before your incompatent staff ruins him too. The ghost of Doug Williams is strong with the yuks.

  122. Notabucsfan Says:

Uh, in big boy football you are supposed to throw to an exact spot at the exact right time. Hell, that even applies in major college football. What you aren’t supposed to have is professional WR running the wrong route bringing a DB or 2 with them or running to the wrong spot. Just what in the hell do you expect from a 24 year old qb with a shaky line, no running game, a swiss cheese defense, no kicking game, that started as a rookie with a joke for a coaching staff and front office throwing downfield more than any other QB in the league be c ause he is all you got. Do you guys even watch anything other the bucs? You must not because you don’t seem to understand the game. Watch some real teams play sometime and maybe it will help you understand real football, something the bucs have never played.

  123. Buc4evr Says:

@notabucsfan. Ricky Bell died of Heart failure as a result of DM. The Bucs didn’t ruin him, he had the disease when he played for the Bucs and it wasn’t really diagnosed until he lost so much weight in SD.

  124. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Nota

It seems to you nothing is Jameis’ fault. Poor Jameis is a star surrounded by bad players and coaching huh?

Explain Baker Mayfield then. Dude goes to an 0-16 team and he is balling. He makes the throws and runs the runs all while being safe with the football and while his front office is trying to kamikaze him by trading away his best weapons. He was thrown into the ringer with the worst team in football and he is playing much better than Jameis.

    Please explain.

  125. BigMacAttack Says:

NotabraininyourHead, Please clean your room before your mom calls you to dinner. BTW, McDonalds is hiring 40 yr old college grads with no experience to take drive through orders. Maybe your mom will even wash your uniforms and set your name tag out for you.

  126. Rod Munch Says:

WalkdaPlank <– LOL! 32 out of 32 NFL teams take Winston over Dak and it's not even close. If you think otherwise you should spend your Sundays doing something other than watching football since you have no concept of what you're watching.

  127. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod

Winston wouldn’t even be a starting quarterback on most teams. I’m no Dak fan either but he has been more successful than Jameis without the likes of Mike Evans, Djax, OJ, Brate and Humphries. 32 teams out of 32 teams would love to have those guys catching passes.

  128. Noles Says:

It’s not JW’s fault. He will continue to grow, good insight by Dapostman & lets not forget he has played behind a bad offensive line this entire time with no RB or D. Lot’s of holes to fix on OL, DB, LB , DE & RB. No playoffs this year and change is coming at HC & GM hopefully . The drafts have been weak for the most part with misses at critical picks. That is a scenario that will not build or sustain winning. Hence 10 year drought…

  129. 98bucsfan Says:

Here we go again. If jameis actually had a running game, to throw the defense off, he wouldn’t be doing bad. He’s isn’t even playing that bad so I don’t see what all the drama is for. Ok he threw 2 picks. In 62 drop backs (most in the league this week). Bucs fans are the only fans that can blindly turn away a win to pinpoint every little thing jameis does. Let’s be real. Had CAT not missed a chip shot field goal, we wouldn’t even be talking about this play. Let’s start putting the blame EVERYWHERE it’s due. Only unit that doesn’t deserve blame is surprisingly the defense this week. Some of y’all let your bias mindset influence your perception. Remember, Cleveland isn’t the old Cleveland. They are a good defense who had no worries about stopping our subpar running attack.

  130. JimmyT Says:

Not even going to bother reading all these Hate posts! I guess joebucsfan is now pandering to Jameis Hate crowd! My goodness he was asked to drop back 62 times, and not mentioned is the FACT that Jameis did his job at the end of regulation. He put the team and his freaking KICKER EXACTLY where he needed to and our kicker missed. Now Jameis is “Dumb”? Close to 100 plays, he took a beating and they still won and all we hear from the TBT & JBF is Jameis bashing. Hopefully will beg for a trade so u all can butcher the next qb of the future. Good Luck with that. I will root for Jameis wherever he ends up & enjoy watching him win with a real organization!

  131. Oneilbucs Says:

Alterego n Jmark you know good well I’m telling the truth. It’s just some white people just don’t want to tell the truth. Call it what you want but I look at facts. Tell the truth you want a white quarterback cause how many times Winston put this team in position to win . Y’all be talking about guys like fizpatrick who ain’t never won nothing but keep getting chances. This fan base sucks. I’m from Houston born in raise I saw how Moon got treated and now Winston is get treated the same way . Only black quarterbacks gets call dumb. They never call white quarterback dumb . So name 1 white quarterback they call dumb. They never call Elie Mannon dumb or Blake Bortles. There goes some more facts…..

  132. Oneilbucs Says:

Jimmy T and 98 these guys want a white quarterback. That’s it Jamies is a good quarter back they know that . When you rather fizpatrick that should tell you a lot . That’s why I know race has to play apart of this hate . Think about it they said Winston had to throw for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns and he did and they still blame him for the lost against the falcons. Fizpatrick threw 3 ints against the Steelers in a pick 6 in the first half of the game and they still say he played good and they didn’t blame him for the lost. Look at the bears game you had people talking bad about Winston that game. And look at last year after a fumble or a int in the first half of the game then he comes back and take the lead in the 4th quarter and defense gives up the game and it’s Winston fault cause of the turnover in the first half of the game. There goes some more facts……

  133. Greg Says:

I feel like Im being baited in here lol. I do see that he holds the ball too long. We weren’t talking about the o-line when we faced the Eagles or Saints. Jameis is a baseball player who has a long delivery, holds the ball too long, and has been inaccurate way too often. Hes just not a 20 million dollar player period.. That’s not even bringing up the sex offender stuff.

  134. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Oneil

Seriously? The race card? What complexion was Mike Glennon? How about Josh McCown? Trent Dilfer? Brian Griese? C’mon man! All those white QB’s got criticized. You know why? Because they weren’t franchise QB’s who were going to take us to the playoffs! You know why people criticize Jameis Winston? Because people don’t think he is a franchise QB who is going to take us to th playoffs!

Has nothing to do with skin color. Idiot

  135. Bigbucfan90 Says:

Can you blame him though? I mean yes we can say it was dumb to hold the ball but the kicker literally missed a extra point and then missed a game winning field goal in regulation so him trying to make something happen is just what Jameis does he probably will always be like that and as long as we have kickers who miss crucial kicks that will probably continue to happen

  136. THETRUTH Says:

    Ryan Fitzpatrick career
    TD 184 Int 141

    Jamies Winston
    TD 74 Int 50

ENOUGH WITH FITZPATRICK NOT TURNING IT OVER AS MUCH !!!

Lets try blocking for JW his fumble was due to Bennoch and datson inability to stop anyone..

only knock i have on JW is he cant throw the long ball and thats where Fitz gives you advantage.

  137. Dapostman Says:

OJ Howard catches that 13 yard pass vs the Eagles and takes it to the house. It’s Fitzmagic says the anti-Winston crowd.

OJ Howard drops the same pass from Winston vs the Browns in OT and the same crowd screams Winston sucks!

These Winston Derangement Syndrome simpletons are just too funny. Kinda like Elizabeth Warren claiming to be native American.

  138. Trench War Says:

Let’s focus on Cincinnati. ….We can moan and groan about Jameis but for right now, he’s going nowhere. This is the time where we encourage him, not tear him down. When we are sitting at 3-3, we need him feeling confident. There’s a lot of criticism about Jameis in the national media, and some of it rightly so. But they aren’t us, Buc fans. Jameis ain’t going anywhere so if you are like me and want to win then get behind Jameis and the team, otherwise all the white noise spawns negativity.

  139. Ed Says:

I have been rooting for Jameis from day one. His best 3 games in his career were fantastic, wins over KC at Arrowhead, win over Philly and the Atlanta opener a few years ago. At that point I thought he was going to turn into a top 10 NFL quarterback.

He hasn’t played a game anywhere near any of those 3 games I mentioned above, not even close. I supposed the NFL defenses have caught up with him. They know he can’t throw the deep ball and they don’t have to respect the whole field because he will eventually force balls he has no reason to, such as those interceptions against Cleveland where he lacked the vision to see that he had a double covered receiver with a linebacker dropping right in front of the receiver.

He is very good at getting the ball through windows with velocity. His ability to keep plays alive is exceptional, even his running is effective.

Yes he is a good quarterback, no he isn’t on the rise, he has peaked and the Bucs have to have better quarterback play every week. Jameis will play great in spurts and then play lousy. Inconsistant player who doesn’t play his best in the biggest games. I’d pass on locking him up, I think most of us who come on Joe Bucs that are honest can see what he is: a better than average QB whose liabilities wash out his talents.

  140. Oneilbucs Says:

Walktheplank all those guys you name accept for 1 played in the league for years before they got here . My point is give him a chance to grow. It’s not about a race card when it’s true . You know good well with a lot of these fans his skin color plays apart of it. May be not for you I don’t know but for a lot of people it does. Jamies have put this team in position to win a number of time . The falcons game with any other team will win that game . He threw for 4 tds 400 yards and people still blame him for the lost. This team suck and this fan base sucks I hope that they trade Winston. He will be a winer with another team and coach . Look at Matt Ryan when Dirk K left . Look at Goff when Fisher left . I think Winston need another coach . Look at the Chiefs quarterback and look who is coaching him that’s the difference. But Don’t tell me that race don’t play apart of it with the national media and with a lot of people on this site and you can claim race card all you want but I look at the facts you don’t are you turn a blind eye to it.

  141. MTM Says:

The question is do we really need to see more of Winston to know if he is really the QB of the future. The answer is no. He is what he is. One good throw out of 5 isn’t going to cut it. His awareness is horribly bad. His short pass game is non-existent. His accuracy is a joke. He over throws tall players and short players. Move the f*ck on Glazers. And while you’re at it get rid of Licht.

  142. D-Rome Says:

The question is do we really need to see more of Winston to know if he is really the QB of the future. The answer is no. He is what he is.

Agreed. After four years, this *is* who he is. For the rest of his career he’ll be closer to Andy Dalton than Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlissberger.

Should the Bucs give the $100+ million dollar contract to a guy that closely resembles Andy Dalton at best? I certainly don’t think so.

  143. lewis Says:

What are you talking about Joe dirt is the problem he has to go period . my guess is 6/10 season might be good for you but this is his third year and new coaches are turning things around very quickly its just not working here .

  144. lewis Says:

All you guys want to blame our qb but the real problem is our head coach your asking our qb to throw and throw and throw and to be perfect and its flipping nuts . Jamis doesn’t need the bucs my friends he will have many offers from other teams and u will see him shine

  145. TOM Says:

Trade Winston for Carr. I think a change of scenery would be good for both. I don’t think Winston’s play is ever going to change much. I just think he is what he is, and will never be fully accepted here.

  146. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Jameis had a good game until Howard dropped the pass on 3rd down. Jameis had 420 of total offense including a rushing TD and his 9th game winning drive.

  147. Jameis Almighty! Says:

I agree oneilbucs. Jameis can replace Brady and win 10 Super Bowls if he was in that type of organization.
